Elowen ran into Professor Shane into her rush to get back to Toby's room.

"Whoa, careful there," Shane said with a laugh. "What the rush?"

Elowen stopped, slightly breathless. "Sorry, sorry. Some stuff just came up and I'm sort of in a hurry."

"This wouldn't have anything to do with your boyfriend accusing me of mass murder, would it?"

"Look, I'm sorry about him. He's paranoid by nature and he doesn't trust easily, although it's not exactly like the evidence isn't pointing towards you. I'd suggest you stay away from Bonnie, alright?"

Elowen turned to walk away from him when he spoke up.

"He was asking me about where to find more hunters. I doubt a vampire would willingly seek out hunters, unless he knows what it leads to, and I'm guessing that you know, too."

Elowen stopped and turned back around. She looked around and closed the distance between her and Shane so she could lower her voice.

"We've already found another hunter, for your information, so whatever upperhand you think you have, you don't."

A look of surprise crossed Shane's face. "You've found a third hunter? How is that possible?"

"This town is full of coincidences. I'd think a man of your expertise would know that, seeing as how you're the one who sent Connor here."

"... How did you…?"

"Funny. You know who and what Bonnie is, but you don't know who I am? Tell me, in your research, what family are Bennett's commonly tied to throughout history?"

Shane paused before realization dawned on his face. "Ramirez's."

"Bingo. I won't ask you again. Stay away from Bonnie."

"Believe it or not, you're gonna need my help."

"Yeah? And why's that?"

"Because, even if you complete the mark and you get the map, the thing you're looking for is sealed with a spell only a certain kind of witch can perform."

Elowen faltered for a second. "You're kidding me."

"I'm afraid not. This scavenger's hunt is useless unless Bonnie's back in touch with her magic, and between the two of us, who do you think is closer to helping her tap back into it?"

With a glare, Elowen stepped back. "This doesn't mean that you're off the hook." She glanced behind her at the house. "If you'll excuse me, I was serious about having somewhere I need to be."

She moved past Shane and continued towards the house.

Artemis was walking around the party aimlessly. She'd gotten bored just standing around, so she ventured off. She had just lifted her glass to her mouth to take a sip of her drink when her eyes found Tyler, Alani, Hayley and Veronica. She paused. Something about one of the girls seemed familiar. Without thinking, she walked over.

"Sorry, hi," she greeted when she reached the four of them. Her eyes were on Alani. "You look familiar. Have we met before?"

"Contrary to popular belief, not all Brits in America know each other," Alani replied jokingly with a laugh. Artemis nodded with a fake laugh in return to play along while she tried to place the young woman. Finally, it clicked.

"... Alani?" She asked. "Alani Zhang?"

Alani stopped laughing and turned serious. "Who's asking?"

"Artemis. Artemis Jones-Smith. I used to babysit you when I was in high school. You and your little sister." Artemis paused as she tried to remember her sister's name. "Leilani, right?"

Alani swallowed and tried to keep her face neutral. "Uh, yeah, yeah, I think I remember you. Excuse me. Sorry."

Alani made a quick exit, leaving Artemis with Tyler, Hayley and Veronica. Hayley watched her go worriedly.

"I'm gonna go…" Hayley gestured in the direction Alani went, and Tyler nodded. She left as well.

"Sorry," Artemis apologized. "I didn't mean to scare her off. I, uh, I should get going."

As Artemis left, Veronica got on her tiptoes and craned her next around the crowd. She frowned when she didn't see Adriana or Angel.

"Hey, I think I'm gonna go find my brother and my sister, okay?" She said to Tyler. "I think they might've ditched me. If they did, I'm gonna be pissed."

Tyler laughed. "Yeah, I get it. Go ahead."

Veronica shot Tyler a flirtatious smile. "I had fun. Thanks for inviting me."

"No problem."

She leaned in and kissed Tyler before walking off. As she left, Tyler looked around to Hayley and Alani. He found them sitting on the stone steps up towards the house. He slowly sat down with them.

"Hey," he said quietly. Alani looked upset, so he had to tread carefully. "Is everything okay?"

"That's what I'm trying to find out," Hayley replied. "Al, did you really know that woman? Who was she?"

Alani didn't do anything for a long moment. Finally, she nodded. "Yeah. Yeah, I did. She was right. She used to babysit me and my sister. It's just… I haven't thought about my family in years."

"Tell me about them," Hayley told her. "We've known each other for so long, but you never talk about them."

"My grandparents immigrated to London before Hawaii became a state. When my mom met my dad, they moved to Manchester. He's from Beijing." Alani smiled fondly, but kept her eyes on her hands. "When I was 6, my dad got this business opportunity in Glasgow. That's where the accent came from." She sighed and looked up, out at the crowd of people. "After I triggered the curse, I ran away from home. I haven't seen them since."

"How old were you?" Tyler asked curiously.

Alani laughed. "15." She paused and swallowed. "Home invasion. My parents were at work and I was watching after my sister. She's 3 years younger than I am. I think I was helping her with her homework. These two guys broke our door down while we were upstairs. I don't think they knew anybody was home. All I could think about was protecting my sister, so I told her to hide in the closet and I snuck into the kitchen and grabbed the largest knife I could find. When their backs were turned, I jumped onto one of the guys and just started pounding him. The other one ran when he realized he wasn't alone. What happened after that was a blur, to be honest." She paused again. "We never got the blood stains out of the carpet," she mumbled, mainly to herself. "We ended up replacing it." Alani blinked, shook her head to clear her through and cleared her throat. She looked at Tyler. "You?"

"This raging bitch compelled two of my friends to attack me on purpose so I'd trigger the curse. It was self defense. I pushed her and she hit her head on the corner of a table."

Alani tilted her head. "Why'd she compel them?"

"It's a long story, but the short version? A spell needed to be broken and it required a werewolf sacrifice."

"Well, clearly it wasn't you, or else you wouldn't be sitting here."

Tyler laughed quietly and nodded his head. "Yeah." He looked up at Hayley. "You never told me how you triggered it."

"Boating accident," Hayley replied. "We were drunk. I thought I wasn't." She spotted Carol across the lawn and nodded at her. "Your mom parties harder than you do. Does she have the gene?"

Tyler shook his head. "Dad. What about your parents?"

"Never met them. My adopted parents found out about my wolf gene when I did. The night that I turned and tore apart their living room, they promptly kicked me out."

Tyler looked from Hayley to Alani. He lightly nudged her. "And you?"

"My mom. My grandma knew about it. She never triggered it, but I guess the legend had been passed down through generations. She helped me through my first turn. After that, I got scared and I ran. I guess I thought that I was protecting them." She sighed. "None of that matters now."

Tyler looked down. "No, I guess not."

When Elowen reentered Toby's room, Adriana was pacing around while on the verge of hyperventilating.

"What do I tell my sister?" She asked frantically. "She's been texting me non stop asking where Angel and I went. Oh god, my mom. What about my mom? She's back in Atlanta, thinking we're all on some long awaited vacation. She thinks we're having the time of our lives. I am so not having the time of my life."

Angel gasped and shot up on Toby's bed. He looked around the room wildly while Adriana sat on the bed next to him. He was breathing heavily as he looked at Adriana.

"Adri? What happened?"

Tears welled up in Adriana's eyes as she struggled to tell Angel the truth. Angel furrowed his eyebrows and grabbed Adriana's face.

"What is it? What's wrong?"

"Angel…" she started quietly. She took a deep breath to steady her breathing. "Angel, this is going to be a lot to take in, and you're not going to believe me at first, but it's the truth. You're dead."

A look of confusion passed Angel's face. "What? What are you talking about? I'm right here. I'm not dead."

"Yes, you are," Damon stated from the corner he was standing in. Elowen turned to glare at him, signaling him to shut up. Angel turned to the sound of the voice and widened his eyes as memories came flooding back.

"You," he said with a slight tremor in his voice. "You…" He trailed off and turned back to Adriana, who was crying again. "Adri, come on, this is a joke, right? A sick prank."

Adriana shook her head. "No."

"I- I don't understand. If I'm dead, how am I here?"

Adriana sniffled and shook her head. She glanced at Elowen. "I can't."

Elowen shot her a look of sympathy. She slowly walked forward and stopped in front of Angel. "You're in transition to become a vampire."

"A vampire?" Angel pushed Adriana away slightly and stood up. "That's it. I'm out of here."

Damon sped in front of Angel, stopping him in his tracks. He stumbled backward and fell back onto Toby's bed.

"What are you?!"

Damon rolled his eyes. "Haven't you caught on by now? I'm a vampire."

Angel's eyes found Elowen's. "And you?"

Elowen shook her head. "No."

Angel looked to Toby, who had been quiet this whole time. "And him?"

"I'm half vampire," Toby replied patiently.

Angel was quiet for a moment as he processed this information. He looked at Elowen. "You said I was in transition. What does that mean? How did this happen?"

"I fed you my blood and I snapped your neck," Damon explained with a nonchalant shrug. Elowen sent him another glare. She turned back to Angel and her gaze softened.

"You have 24 hours to feed on human blood or else you'll die, this time permanently. It's your choice."

"I can help you," Adriana said quickly, wiping at her tears. "There's a cure. I have this tattoo, this mark, on my hand. It's invisible to anyone but other hunter's," she explained when Angel looked down at her hand. "It's a map that shows us where the cure is. I have to kill vampires for the mark to grow, but once it's full, we can find it. I can fix you. Please. The only other option is for you to die, and I don't think I can handle that."

Angel looked at Adriana for a long while. Finally, he leaned forward and pressed a kiss to her forehead. "Okay," he whispered. "I'll do it."

Adriana's phone dinged with another text. She looked down at it. "That's Veronica. She wants to know where we went. What do I tell her?"

"I don't think we'll be able to keep this a secret from her. We have to tell her."

Adriana nodded and picked up her phone. "Okay. Okay. I'll tell her to come up here."

"I'll go get her," Toby offered. "Just tell me where she is."

Adriana shot Veronica a text asking her where she was. When she got a response, she showed Toby. He nodded and then left the room. Angel looked at Elowen.

"So… human blood. Does that mean I have to drink from you, or…?"

"You can drink from me," Adriana butt in hastily. "I don't want you accidentally hurting a stranger."

"And you're fine with me accidentally hurting you?"

"I'm not a stranger. Angel, please."

Angel sighed and gave in. "Okay, okay. Do I just… bite her? Like, do I already have fangs?"

Damon rolled his eyes. "No. Here, give me your wrist." He held his hand out in front of Adriana, who hesitantly did as she was told. Damon let his fangs come out and Adriana gasped in surprise. He brought her wrist up to his lips and sank his teeth into her skin. Once she was bleeding, he pushed her wrist in front of Angel. "Drink."

Angel carefully took Adriana's wrist in his hands and stared at it heavily. He swallowed and brought it up to his lips. The door to the bedroom burst open and Veronica came barging in.

"Okay, does someone want to explain to me why some weird guy said some really vague bullshit and- oh my god!"

Angel pulled away from Adriana's wrist, blood smearing his chin. There were dark veins under his eyes and his irises were red. Toby quickly followed Veronica in and closed the door. Veronica backed up until her back hit the wall.

"What the fuck?!"

"Veronica, let me explain," Angel tried to say, getting up from the bed. Veronica held her hands up.

"No! Stop right there! What the hell have you done with my brother?!"

"Veronica, it's still Angel," Adriana started to explain, also getting up from the bed. When she was far away enough, Veronica darted forward, grabbed Adriana's arm and pulled her away.

"That's not Angel. Look at him!"

"Veronica! Veronica, listen to me, it's still our brother. See? Look."

Adriana turned around as the veins slowly started to disappear from Angel's eyes and his eyes returned back to normal. Angel carefully walked over to Veronica. She took a step back, pulling Adriana with her. Angel stopped in front of her and him and Veronica simply stared at each other for awhile.

"... Angel?" Veronica whispered after a few moments. "What happened to you? What's going on? Somebody start explaining."

"We'll leave you guys alone," Elowen said before behind Angel and Adriana.

"No!" Adriana exclaimed quickly, turning to look at Elowen. "Please don't. I can't do this by myself."

Elowen sighed and nodded. She looked at Damon. "Find Stefan. He's here. Tell him what's going on." She turned to Toby. "And you, find Elena. Jeremy's missing. Help her."

Toby nodded and disappeared through the door. Damon followed after him a second later. Once they were gone, she turned back to Veronica, Adriana and Angel.

"Okay, what do you want to know?"

Damon found Stefan looking through the house as if he was searching for someone. He glanced down and saw that there was a hole in his shirt, along with blood staining the material. He whistled, getting Stefan's attention.

"You look like hell, brother."

"Damon." Stefan's eyes darted around. "Have you seen Jeremy?"

"What is up with that kid today? Everybody's been looking for him."

"It doesn't matter. Have you seen him or not?"

Damon rolled his eyes. "I've been busy. There are more important things at play at the moment."

Stefan stopped looking around the house and turned his eyes onto Damon. "What do you mean?"

"I simply motivated our other hunter friend to help us so Jeremy doesn't have to." Damon shrugged. "I solved our problem."

"What did you do, Damon?"

"Oh, you know, I turned her brother so she would have a reason to look for the cure. No biggie."

"What? Damon, please tell me you're kidding."

"No. Why would I be kidding? I'm me."

"Damn it, Damon! What's wrong with you?"

"Oh, calm down. Hero Stefan is needed upstairs. It's the room across from the bathroom. Can't miss it."

With a glare, Stefan moved past Damon and towards the stairs. When he made it to Toby's room, he opened the door and slipped through.

"We can't stay at the B&B anymore," Adriana was saying to everyone in the room when he entered. "People will get suspicious there if Angel never leaves the room during the day."

"He can stay at the boarding house." Elowen looked at Stefan. "Right, Stefan?"

Stefan nodded his head when Adriana looked at him. "Of course."

"I go wherever Angel goes," Veronica said with a high level of certainty.

"Me, too," Adriana agreed.

Elowen shook her head sadly. "Veronica can, but you can't."

Adriana frowned. "What? Why not?"

"Because once you awaken your hunter side, all you'll be able to think about is killing vampires. He won't be safe around you."

"I'd never hurt my brother!"

"That's what Jeremy said about his sister Elena. Then he started having nightmares about killing her. Trust me, it's for the best. You can stay with me."

Adriana nodded. "Okay. Okay. What do we say to our mom?"

Angel quickly shook his head. "We tell mom nothing. We need to keep her out of this."

"Angel, she'll know something is wrong when she sees that you can't go out in the sun and don't eat food anymore," Veronica said. "We have to tell her something."

"Vampires can eat regular food," Stefan explained as he stepped further into the room. "It doesn't taste quite the same, but it helps with the blood cravings."

"And I can make something called a daylight ring," Elowen spoke up. "It'll let him walk in the sun. That's how Stefan and Damon are doing it."

Angel gestured to Elowen. "See? Mom has enough on her plate. She doesn't need this, too. We keep it from her for as long as we can. Okay?"

Reluctantly, Veronica and Adriana nodded their heads. Suddenly, Angel gasped and grabbed his chest. Veronica and Adriana started to freak out and rushed over to him as Angel fell to the ground.

"What's wrong? What's happening?" Adriana asked frantically as she dropped to her knees.

"I can't… breathe," Angel wheezed out.

Elowen widened her eyes in realization. She turned to Stefan. "He hasn't been invited in. Find Carol. Now! Go!"

Stefan nodded and rushed out of the room.

Josiah had roped Matt into helping him look for Jeremy. He'd asked around just about everywhere, but he had no luck. After April Young was crowned Miss Mystic Falls, Josiah knew Matt was free and swooped in to grab him. They'd moved from outside to inside the house, searching through every room they could find. They finally moved to the room with the makeshift dressing room and found Jeremy on top of Elena with a stake raised above his head.

"Jeremy!" Josiah yelled with wide eyes.

"Get out of here, guys," Jeremy replied without taking his eyes off of Elena.

"Jeremy, you don't want to do this, okay?" Matt said carefully. "That's your sister! It's that stupid mark on your arm."

"Shut up, Matt!"

"Jeremy, look at me!" Josiah waved his hands to try and get Jeremy's attention. "I'm human and I'm telling you not to hurt her."

Jeremy hesitated for a moment and looked up at Josiah. For a second, Josiah thought that he had gotten through to him, but Jeremy started to drive the stake down towards Elena. Toby rushed into the room, grabbed Jeremy and slammed him against the wall.

"Get him out of here!" He ordered, pushing Jeremy towards Matt and Josiah. They each grabbed an arm and pulled him out of the room. Once they were gone, Toby knelt down in front of Elena. She was trying to pull the stake Jeremy had stabbed her with out of her neck. "Let me do it, let me do it, let me do it." Toby gently took hold of the stake as she gasped for air and pulled it out. Elena breathed a sigh of relief and caught her breath.

Alani slowly walked over to the table Artemis was sitting at and stopped in front of her.

"Hi," she said meekly. Artemis looked up at the sound of her voice. She was sitting by herself, needing some alone time after being surrounded by so many people. Alani gestured to the empty seat across from her. "Can I sit here?"

Artemis nodded. "Sure."

Alani lowered herself down into the chair. She played with her fingers. "Sorry for freaking out on you earlier. It's just… I haven't seen my family in a couple of years and thinking about them makes me a little bitter."

"Hey, you don't have to explain yourself to me. It's none of my business."

"So… you're not gonna ask why I'm not with them or what I'm doing in America?"

Artemis shook her head. "Nope."

Relief flooded Alani. She would've hated having to dig up the past two times in one day.

Artemis took a sip of her drink. "So, how old are you now?"

"21."

Artemis smirked. "Ah, the big two one." She glanced over at Tyler and Hayley, who were still sitting at the steps. "Who's your friends?"

Alani followed her line of sight. "Oh. The guy is Tyler. I met him a couple of months ago, helped him through some stuff. This is his house, actually."

Artemis raised an eyebrow. "Is that so? Well, guy's loaded."

Alani laughed. "Yeah."

"And the girl?"

"Hayley. I've known her for a few years. She's my best friend. I'm not sure where I would be without her. We've been through a lot together."

"It's always good to have at least one ride or die in your life. They make the best friends."

"Oh, yeah? Then who's yours?"

Artemis smiled. "My sister, Storm. We're 10 months apart. Since we're the two youngest, we kind of stuck together."

"Only 10 months? Sheesh, your parents sure didn't waste any time."

It was Artemis's turn to laugh. "Yeah, well, they had five of us."

Alani whistled. "Damn." She shook her head. "I don't want kids. I don't think I'm cut out for it. If I ever got pregnant, I'd probably get rid of it." She paused. "You're not gonna go into some pro life speech, are you? Because the last time that happened, Hayley almost went to jail for breaking somebody's nose."

Artemis shook her head. "Nah. It's your body. You can do what you want with it. For the record, I don't think I want kids, either. At least, not yet. I'm only 30, so."

"You're 30?" Alani asked in disbelief. "No way. You look like you're my age."

"I get that a lot. I still get carded whenever I buy a drink."

Artemis and Alani laughed. It felt good to talk to someone who wasn't Hayley, especially reconnecting with someone from back home who wasn't her family. Alani didn't think she could face them after what she did. It was much easier to just never see them again.

"Did you maybe want to grab coffee or lunch, or something sometime?" Alani asked. "Tyler said there's a place called The Grill that has good food."

Artemis nodded. "I'd like that. How long are you here for?"

Alani shrugged. "Not sure, to be honest. A while? How about you?"

"Only about a month. I'm here visiting my sister."

"Is it just you?"

"No. It's my mom and my other siblings." Artemis looked around the lawn and spotted Esmeralda, Eliana, Sydney and the rest of her family across the lawn. She pointed them out. "So, the taller woman with the curly long hair is Esmeralda, the shorter one is her twin, Eliana, my sister, Sydney's, girlfriend. Sydney is the one with the short afro; she's the oldest and the one we're all here visiting. The man standing next to her is my brother, Zion; second oldest. Next in line is Nikita, the one wearing the blue dress, then Storm, the one with the braids. That leaves my mom, Nicole."

"Wow," Alani said, impressed. "Your family has amazing genes. Where's your dad, if you don't mind me asking?"

Artemis rolled her eyes. "He divorced my mom for a 20 something biology major in college. He was her professor. We haven't really seen him since. I don't really care."

"Well, I say good riddance. He was insane for leaving your mom. I mean, look at her. She's gorgeous."

At that moment, Storm looked over, spotted Artemis and waved her over.

"Well, I think that's cue to leave. Here, let's exchange numbers so we can have that lunch."

Alani nodded. "Yeah, okay."

After swapping phone numbers, Artemis stood up. "See you later."

Alani nodded. "Bye."

After Carol formally invited Angel in, much to her chagrin, Veronica, Adriana, Stefan, Damon and Elowen all waited for the sun to go down. Toby had never come back, probably out dealing with Elena, and Josiah let her know that he'd found Jeremy and that he was at his house with Matt. Elowen had called her mom and filled her in about Adriana having to stay with them, to which she agreed. Elena had asked Josiah to move into her house to help with Jeremy, so Adriana was going to stay in Josiah's room.

Right now, they had all arrived at the boarding house after stopping by the B&B so Veronica, Adriana and Angel could pick up their things. Rudy had ran up to them, excitedly wagging his tail and barking.

"You have a dog?" Veronica asked. "Vampires own pets?"

Damon rolled his eyes. "It's hers." He nodded at Elowen. "She picked him up in Tennessee."

Adriana tilted her head. "What were you doing in Tennessee for?"

Elowen shook her head. "Don't ask."

Stefan gestured towards the stairs. "Pick a room. We have plenty."

Veronica and Angel nodded, then turned and disappeared down the hall. Adriana watched them leave with a sad look in her eyes, then turned to Elowen.

"Okay, so, I need to kill a vampire to trigger the hunter in me, right?"

At Elowen's nod, she continued.

"So, when do I do that? I mean, are there other vampires in town that I can kill?"

"None that wouldn't in turn get you killed," Damon replied. "I'll turn someone for you."

"Can it at least be someone who deserves it? Like… a murderer, or something."

Damon was about to open his mouth to retort when he caught Elowen's glare from behind her. He quickly changed his answer. "Fine, I'll see what I can do."

Elowen wrapped her arm around Adriana's shoulders. "Come on. Let's get you home." She looked at Stefan and Damon as she walked towards the door. "I'll see you later."

Stefan and Damon nodded, then she left.

xxxx

Matt and Josiah walked into Jeremy's room and found him stuffing clothes into a bag.

"What are you doing?" Matt asked.

"I can't keep living here if I want to kill my sister."

"Elena knows that," Josiah replied. "That's why she moved out and asked us to move in."

Jeremy looked up from his bag in surprise. "What?"

Matt took a step forward. "Look, we're not one of them, Jer. We'll keep an eye on you and we can keep this hunter business in check."

"Besides, you won't have to worry about it much longer," Josiah said.

Jeremy furrowed his eyebrows. "What do you mean?"

"Your friend, the other potential, she agreed to help us so you don't have to."

"She what? Why?"

"... Damon might've… done something to make her change her mind."

"Damon?" Jeremy questioned angrily. "Did he threaten her?"

"Not exactly." Josiah sighed at Jeremy and Matt's expectant looks. "He turned her brother."

"What?!"

Josiah winced. "She's okay. She'll be staying at my house while her brother and sister stay at Stefan and Damon's."

Jeremy shook his head. "I'm gonna kill him."

He started walking towards his bedroom door, but Josiah quickly put his hands on his chest to stop him.

"Hey! Nobody is killing anybody, alright? Let's just focus on you and this hunter thing."

Jeremy looked down at Josiah and sighed. "If Elena's moving out, where's she gonna go?"

"Toby's," Josiah answered as if it were obvious.

"Right." Jeremy nodded. He exhaled. "Okay. Pick a room. Guess I have no choice but to deal with you two."

Matt rolled his eyes. "Whatever, man. Just get some sleep, okay?"

Jeremy nodded again and started walking towards the bathroom.

"I'll see you in the morning, you guys."

Josiah nodded. "Yeah. Night, dude."

xxxx

When Elowen got home, she found Caroline pacing in her living room. She stopped when she heard the front door and peered out to see if it was who she was waiting for.

"Good! You're home." Her eyes flickered over to Adriana. "You're Jeremy's friend, right? I'm sorry this all happened."

Elowen looked over at Adriana. "Josiah's room's upstairs. It's the second door on the left, at the end of the hall."

Adriana nodded and then disappeared upstairs. Elowen walked into the living room and found Binx lying on the couch. She snapped her fingers and he jumped off, leaving room for her to sit down.

"Where is everyone?" Elowen asked.

"Oh, they're all at The Grill having a late dinner."

"And I wasn't invited? I'm offended."

"To be fair, you were a little preoccupied, thanks to Damon."

"So, what are you doing here? Josiah's at Jeremy's."

"I know. I wanted to talk to you."

Elowen furrowed her eyebrows. "Okay. What about?"

Caroline quickly sat next to Elowen on the couch. "Okay, so you know how I promised Klaus that date and that he was there at Miss Mystic today?"

"Yeah. What about it?"

"When I was talking about Elena and how she's been acting, Klaus found it funny. Like, he was beyond amused and I thought it was weird, and he said it would make sense when I figured it out, so it got me thinking, why does it matter to him? Then I remembered that the only reason he wants the cure is to make more hybrids, so of course he'd be invested in Elena, but that still doesn't explain why he was so interested-"

"Caroline, please tell me there's a point here."

"There is! Let me finish. When I remembered about the hybrids, I thought about how Tyler has almost all of them unsired, and then boom! The lightbulb went off!"

"What lightbulb? Care, you're not making any sense."

"No, I will in a minute, I promise. Just roll with me for a little longer. Every time Elena's had a problem, Toby's been the magic solution. Look, when Elena started feeding, who said that she should learn how to drink from the vein?"

"... Toby."

"And when she tried to drink from animals?"

"She couldn't keep it down."

"And blood bags?"

"Same thing."

"Name one vampire in the history of vampires who couldn't drink from a blood bag. Toby said she couldn't, so she couldn't. Toby likes the red dress. Elena likes the red dress."

Elowen's eyes started to widen slightly as she started to realize what Caroline was getting at. "Toby says kill Connor if she gets a shot and she kills Connor."

"What if it's possible? Toby's blood made her a vampire, right? It's rare, but it happens. What if this is one of those times? What if this is really happening?"

Elowen was speechless for a moment. Finally, she opened her mouth.

"Elena's sired to Toby."

Author's Note: I have officially realized I forgot to say who's playing Alani, or at least I'm pretty sure I forgot. Alani's FC is Auli'i Cravalho! Also, the farther I get into writing out this series, the harder it is to change events around and try to write original scenes :/ I'm doing my best, I promise! There's just a lot of domino effect stuff that happens later on (for example, Katherine becoming human or Stefan being locked in the safe over the summer). I'm pretty sure though that after this chapter, events of season 4 started to deviate a little! Or at least more original content gets written in, like in this chapter with the triplets as they start to get introduced more. I hoped you guys enjoyed this one! :D
