I'm going to start putting when these stories take place, just so you guys don't get confused.

This takes place before RTTE. So Hiccup is 17.

The realization hit too quickly. Hiccup hadn't gotten Stoick a Snoggletog gift, and it was already Snoggletog Eve. He sat up straight in his chair and turned to his Dad, who was reading papers. Hiccup got up from his spot at the dinner table and turned for the door. Stoick looked up, "Where are yeh going?"

"I..um...well...I have this thing to take care of." he said quickly. Maybe a little too quickly. Stoick raised an eyebrow.

"A thing yeh say?"

"Y-yeah. A thing."

Stoick walked up to him. His height intimidated Hiccup. His eyes darted around the room trying to avoid his father's questioning stare. Stoick then walked back to his chair, "Be back soon."

"O-ok. I will!" Hiccup told him. Toothless walked up to his side and followed him out the door.

"Toothless! I forgot to get my dad a present! What's wrong with me?" Hiccup said suddenly. Toothless only cocked his head.

"I need to get something for him...what do I get him?"

"Why are you asking me? I'm not his son."

"This isn't time for games Toothless! I need ideas!" Hiccup sighed and mentally slapped himself for forgetting. And now, he didn't even know what to give him. He started listing ideas out loud, pacing as he did so.

"A new weapon? No I already did that last year...some armor? Uh, no..."

Toothless' head followed him back and forth...back and forth.

"Augh! I can't believe I forgot! Now I have no idea what to get him and I'm all out of ideas!" Hiccup threw his hands in the air. They walked into the forge. It was surprisingly empty. Hiccup headed over to his corner and Toothless sat in front of him. Hiccup sighed.

"I have no idea how it slipped my mind..." Hiccup muttered.

Toothless crooned, "Well you can't just sit here. Think of stuff that he likes!"

"I'm trying!" Hiccup said.

Toothless rolled his eyes.

"Bud, you're not helping."

"Sorry."

Hiccup face palmed, "All the good gifts are probably gone already, and I don't have the time to make something...what an I going to do?"

Toothless sighed. He didn't know what Hiccup could give his father either, it seemed like he already gave him everything. But he did know Hiccup could come up with something, he just needed a little help. Toothless lifted Hiccup up onto his back and walked out of the forge. Hiccup patted his head.

"You have any ideas, Toothless?"

"Nope. Not a thing."

They then passed Stoick and Gobber, who were making their way to the Great Hall. They were having the same conversation. Stoick also felt just as bad as Hiccup did when he realized that he had forgot a gift for his son.

"Gobber, I just...I can't believe I forgot." he told his friend, "And what's worse is that I don't even know what teh get him!"

"Welp," Gobber said, "Yeh have a few hours. Yeh could grab him somethin' in that time span."

"Only a few hours...a few hours! All the stuff in the market is gone. There's nothing left." Stoick sighed.

"Then make him something." Gobber suggested.

"I don't smith as well as he does." Stoick replied simply.

"Then yeh're stuck aren't yeh?"

Stoick sighed. If he wasn't so busy with his duties as chief...he would've gotten Hiccup a gift sooner. What's worse is that Hiccup probably got something for him, and he had nothing to give back.

"Maybe yeh should look around. Find something that reminds yeh of 'im." Gobber said.

"I don't know..."

"I'll help you then!" Gobber stood up, "Let's go!"

Stoick was about to reject the offer but he didn't really have any other choice. He walked out with Gobber, passing Hiccup and Toothless, who were still trying to find a gift. Hiccup saw his father and waved awkwardly, his father returned the wave as well. Toothless looked up at his rider.

"Any ideas yet?"

"No...Maybe I should just get him something I already gave him...I'll just...change it? Make it look different...he won't notice anything...will he?"

Toothless huffed.

"Yeah, you're right...we need something new. Something I haven't done before."

An idea formed in Toothless' head. He began to pant with excitement, Hiccup looked down at him from his back, "You ok, bud?"

"I have an idea!"

"What is it Toothless?"

Toothless ran over to a patch of snow and picked up a stick from nearby. Hiccup climbed of his back and watched the very strange behaviors coming from the Night Fury. Toothless nudged the stick toward Hiccup, hoping he'd catch the idea.

"You want to play fetch?" Hiccup asked confused.

Toothless shook his head and picked up the stick again and made some motions in the snow with it.

"You want to clean up the snow?"

Toothless huffed. He moved the stick in the snow again, but it accidentally broke from the pressure he had on it.

"You want to break sticks...?" Hiccup guessed again. Toothless whacked his side.

"Ow! Ok! What do you want?!" Hiccup asked exasperatedly.

Toothless picked up half of the broken stick and drew it across the snow, creating a single line. Hiccup stared with a confused look on his face, then his eyes widened with realization.

"You want me to draw something?"

Toothless nodded, then gestured to the Snoggletog tree.

"You want me to draw the tree?" Hiccup asked confused. Toothless shook his head.

"Ohhh! You want me to draw something for my dad to give to him for Snoggletog?"

"Duh you dummy! Why the heck would I be breaking sticks for fun?!"

"Hey. You could've just went and grabbed my sketchbook instead of making me play charades for five minutes." Hiccup said. Toothless rolled his eyes but Hiccup dismissed this and started heading home for paper and charcoal. Toothless followed him. Hiccup then sat at his desk, pencil in hand, and started sketching.

It took forever. Toothless yawned and decided it wouldn't hurt to take a nap. Hiccup could wake him later.

...

Stoick and Gobber have been all over the village. Hiccup was probably home by now and worried about him.

"Gobber, I should head back. Hiccup is probably just about to come looking for me."

"Hopefully yeh find something at home then. Hiccup might not even mind that yeh forgot."

"Yeah but...I still feel bad."

"Don't worry Stoick. He probably would've felt the same way if he forgot you a gift. Besides, he's your son. He's not going teh get angry at you just because you forgot a gift. Spending time with family is what Snoggletog is about."

Stoick stared at Gobber. Who knew he was actually good at giving some form of advice. He patted him on the back and nodded.

"Ok. I'll tell him." Stoick said.

Gobber smiled, "Happy Snoggletog Stoick."

Stoick smiled back at him and headed toward his house. Once he got to the front door he found it surprisingly quiet. He could her the scratching of a pencil and the light breathing of the sleeping Night Fury. Stoick sighed and sat down in the nearest chair, waiting for his son to come downstairs with an amazing present, while he had nothing.

Hiccup had given a lot of handmade things to Stoick. Most being a new weapon, some type of armor. He'd graciously accept them but most he hadn't used until recently. He was actually quite curious on what Hiccup got him this year.

Stoick knew he needed to give Hiccup something. Something to show how much he cared about him. He wasn't the same old Stoick anymore. He wanted Hiccup to know how much he loved him...but how?

Stoick looked around the room. Nothing really seemed worth giving to Hiccup. He usually would get him a sketchbook, a book, and previously, a weapon of some sort. But Stoick wanted to give Hiccup something different.

Then, it hit him. Why hadn't he thought of it before?!

Stoick hurriedly walked over to the old cabinet and pulled out a stack of journals. He grabbed some leftover Snoggletog ribbon and tied it around the small stack in a sort of neat bow. Hiccup then finally came downstairs with a rolled up piece of paper.

"Hey, Dad." Hiccup greeted him.

"Hello, son." Stoick replied.

Hiccup and Stoick both sat near the fireplace. They were both silent for awhile. Hiccup cleared his throat to cut the silence and then handed the paper to Stoick.

"Uh...Happy Snoggletog." he said. Stoick began to unroll it and Hiccup continued, "I'm sorry it's not the best present...I sort of forgot and then it was too late to find a good gift so I had to think of something last minute.."

As Hiccup blabbed on Stoick was admiring the very detailed drawing of him and Hiccup. Toothless sat in the background and it was snowing. Stoick's hand was placed on his son's shoulder, both were smiling.

"Hiccup..." Stoick cut him off. Hiccup looked up at him. Stoick turned to face him, "It's amazing. Thank yeh."

"You like it?" Hiccup asked.

"Of course." Stoick said. Hiccup smiled. Stoick then handed him the stack of journals Hiccup took them and flipped through the pages.

"These journals are already full..." he told him. Stoick chuckled lightly.

"They belonged to your mother." he said. Hiccup looked up at him, "I thought you'd want to read through them while Berk gets its snow and hail."

"W-wow.." Hiccup breathed, "Thank you."

Stoick patted him on the back, "My pleasure. Happy Snoggletog, Hiccup."

"Happy Snoggletog, Dad." Then they both embraced. Toothless bounded down the stairs and shoved his head in between the two They both laughed and gave the Night Fury affectionate scratches while enjoying the peaceful Snoggletog they were sharing together.
