Chapter 19:
The Valley Of Freedom
The next day, the herd has made it through the mountain range and they were exhausted as they trekked across a rocky area in the desert.
The Kritohippus foals walked but then one of them collapsed as its sibling started whinnying in distress. Hearing that, Ubinasfi looks back for a moment but he then snorted and kept going. The Kritohippus foal desperately tries to get its sibling standing again as it turns and whinnies as the herd continues, leaving them behind. Not wanting to leave its sibling behind, the Kritohippus foal desperately tries to get it standing as it whinnies. Then Mfalme went up to them.
" It's okay, little ones," said Mfalme.
The two foals looked at her.
" We're gonna make it," said Mfalme.
Then Mfalme moves around them and gently helped the foal to its feet and the two started walking off as Mfalme looked back to the distant mountain and sighed of thinking about Uhuru. Soon she heads off.
Meanwhile, Uhuru and his friends were still in the cave as they went deeper through the tunnels hoping to find another way out.
" Okay, let's see if you can guess this one. I spy with my flyer eye…," said Mabawa resting on Trya's head.
" It's a rock," said Trya guessing.
" You got it again Trya. You long-necks are good," said Mabawa.
" Well, I tell you what I spied. A dead-end" said Bulldozer.
Soon appearing in front of them was a pile of rocks.
" Dah, dudes, and we were so close to finding a way out," said One-ton disappointed.
" What do we do now, Uhuru?" asked Bulldozer to Uhuru.
" I guess we should head back," said Uhuru for he is out of other options and heads back.
But suddenly, Mabawa started sniffing and said " Hold on. Wait a minute,".
" Mabawa, what is it?" asked Trya as Mabawa continues sniffing.
" You smell that?" asked Mabawa to Trya.
Trya then sniffed and said " Yeah! Ah' do,".
Then Mabawa flew off as Uhuru sniffed and said " It smells like...life,". Then he quickly rushed over to the rock pile as Mabawa started digging. Then she pulled a rock loose and then a beam of blinding lights appeared through the gap.
" Look! There's light!" said Bulldozer.
" And when there's light. There's something on the other side," said Trya.
" Everyone stand back we're outta here!" said Uhuru.
As Uhuru got to the rock pile, he started pushing against a boulder trying to get the other rocks loose. But then suddenly the rocks started shaking and Mabawa quickly flew off the rocks.
" Uhuru, look out!" yelled Bulldozer.
Trya quickly grabbed Uhuru by the end of his tail and pulled him back as a boulder hits the ground and Uhuru hits the ground as he looks back and the gap was closed up as the rocks fell down.
" NO!" yelled Uhuru as he charges towards the rocks.
Uhuru rammed against the boulder but it didn't budge. Then he pushed harder against it but it still didn't budge. Uhuru soon gives up and breathes heavily. Then he turns to his friends as they remained silent. Uhuru grew angry and whinnies out as he angrily slams against the rocks and whinnies. Mabawa slowly landed as Uhuru angrily whinnies and slams against the side of the rocks. Finally, Uhuru calmed down and looks down as if he lost hope and failed.
Mabawa went over to him as the others remained silent.
" It's okay Uhuru. We'll go back," said Mabawa.
" Back to what, Mabawa? Our homes are gone. I let everyone down," said Uhuru.
Mabawa hung her head down sadly.
Then Trya approached Uhuru and said " Uhuru listen to what I have to say. I've been part of Ubinasfi's herd half of my life and seeing how selfish Ubinasfi was I knew he wasn't a true leader. Then I met you and you Uhuru showed what it takes to be a true leader. You helped us find water, you helped Uaminifu, and now you got us this far. And you know what? You've helped us. Now it's our turn to help you,".
Then Trya lifts on her hind legs and then bellows as she lands her front legs on the rocks. Then Bulldozer charged towards the rocks and said " It's Bulldozer Time!". Trya continues pounding on the rocks as One-ton runs and jumps off a ramp and hits the rock wall with his back armor causing some rocks to fall. Trya continues pounding her front feet on the rocks as Uhuru got up and looks over to Trya as she bellows out and slams the rocks. Then Uhuru turns to the rock pile and growled. He then whinnies out and charges against the rocks and pushed.
Trya swung towards the rocks and slams against them as they were knocked free as the daylight piers through as she hits the ground and soon gets up. The dust slowly clears as Trya finally looks through the light and saw something.
" Well, Ah'll be," said Trya breathlessly.
Soon the others join up as the dust clears more as they climbed over the rocks as then the dust finally clears completely and reveals a lush beautiful valley as they walked out of the cave.
" The Valley Of Freedom. It's...It's real," said Bulldozer astonished.
Uhuru looks around the lush valley as primitive flying hoof-birds flew over and landed in the branches of some trees as they walked out and looked around.
" Our new home," said Mabawa.
" And it comes with a POOL!" cheered One-ton.
Then One-ton chanted and giggled as Trya laughed as she rushed to the lake. One-ton ran ahead and jumped into the lake.
" Cannonball!" yelled One-ton as he splashed into the water.
" Ha. Amateur. Look out below!," said Trya.
Then Trya throws herself into the water creating a huge splash and wave as One-ton rode waves back to shore. As he reached the shore, One-ton walks to a spot in the grass and lays down as Trya swims across the lake.
Meanwhile, Uhuru, Bulldozer, and Mabawa watched the others.
" Not bad. But I don't understand. Where's the herd?" asked Uhuru.
" Not to mention Mfalme," said Mabawa as she chuckled as well as Bulldozer.
" Don't worry Uhuru they'll get here...soon enough," said Bulldozer as he sees something to the left.
Uhuru turns to him as Bulldozer walks over to something.
" Oh no," said Bulldozer.
" Bulldozer?" said Uhuru as he follows him.
Mabawa follows them concernedly.
" Looks like I spook too soon," said Bulldozer.
" Bulldozer, what is it?" asked Uhuru.
" That is the way we were supposed to use to get in here," said Bulldozer as he looks at a section of the valley's walls.
Uhuru looks at the piles of rocks and then his eyes widen as they were actually blocking the entrance to The Valley Of Freedom. That was the moment when Uhuru finally understand. Ubinasfi is leading the herd astray again and he has to stop them before it happens.
" Ubinasfi's leading them astray again," said Uhuru as he rushes off to the cave.
" Uhuru, wait. We're coming with you," said Bulldozer stopping him.
" No, Bulldozer. I have to do this alone," said Uhuru as he rushes into the cave.
" Oh, I hope he'll be careful out there alone," said Mabawa with concern.
" You and me both Mabawa," said Bulldozer as he turns to the rock-slide blocking the entrance.
Author's Note: Can you believe it? Uhuru and his friends have found The Valley Of Freedom. This valley was inspired by The Great Valley from TLBT, The Nesting Grounds from Dinosaur ( 2000 ), and Spirit's Homeland. One thing these places have in common is where the main characters are free. That's why I named the place The Valley Of Freedom.
