Chapter 8
/
Trilogy of Three Scenes. . . to set up the next chapter.
These are flashbacks in which I take liberties and leaps from events in Season 3. New characters inspired by my imagination and CA writers. I do not own their characters.
Scene 1: D.C. Season 3 Episode 4 Speed of Life
Simon returned from a phone call while eating breakfast and found Annie speaking with FBI Agent Vincent Rossabi, he recognized him immediately, but kept his demeanor unchanged. He knew the FBI had intelligence on the burglar the FSB hired to steal intelligence from RDI. He had gotten the intel from both his M1-6 handler and his FSB handler before he arrived in D.C.
When Annie attempted to stop him from his meeting, he knew this was an opportunity to let the Russians believe that it was too hot and dangerous for the pass. He would use the confusion to switch out the substrates and lay the blame on Mike O'Leary for why things went wrong with this mission. There was no way he was going to let this operation for the FSB succeed. There were many in which he was ordered to let go according to the Russians' plan and report the details back to MI-6, but this one was different and it was the first one on American soil. The Russians were risking a lot showing how important it was to them to have the substrates in their hands. He and his handler also knew there was a mole in the CIA, code name Black Bird, but had no idea who it was and he knew he needed to be careful.
With the FBI sting thwarted, his cover remained safe and he looked like a hero who dodged disaster. He passed the substrates onward to the RDI security guard. This private contractor then flew to England and passed the real substrates to Duncan Lewis.
Scene 2: CUBA, Season 3 Episode 7 Loving the Alien
Simon speaking Russian with Hector in Cuba before the dinner party at Simon's home.
"You bring her here when you know she's CIA? She is the reason things with O'Leary went to shit and you're too clouded to see that! Your judgment is flawed, my friend. She can't leave her alive and you know that," spat Hector angrily.
"I'm not burned. She's in love with me, what else explains the obvious risk she took in coming here with me, trust me, I'm working her, I have the upper hand and I will turn her for us. She's seen a taste of my life and she loves it. She's here, I got her here, just give me more time," says Simon to Hector confidently.
"You're deluded, you only think you have the upper hand here, I see the way you look at her," says Hector shaking his head. "She's the one working you," said Hector emphatically.
"We play at this dangerous game, you look at Blanca the same way and I know you'd slit her throat if you had to Hector! I've known it all my life and isn't this why my mother groomed me since I was a boy? I'm good at what I do, I look like I'm a lovesick school boy because of how well I've been trained, tell me my plan isn't brilliant," said Simon with confidence.
Hector conceded.
Scene 3: England, Simon meeting with his British handler after he leaves DC. Sometime between Season 3, Episode 4, Speed of Life and Season 3, Episode 7 Loving the Alien.
"You're playing a dangerous game Fischer. What do you think you're doing?" asked the older gentleman.
Part of Simon wanted to screw up so badly so he'd be taken off this, that they'd think he was burned out and acting irrationally. Then he could leave this life. But then Annie came along and she made him look at things differently. She was good at her cover, but her true self shined through and he looked forward to their meetings.
"I am working an angle. Give me a bit more time and I can have the Russians thinking I turned an American spy."
"You're living a fantasy and your ego is bigger than your clout with the Russians right now, you think they don't have their guards up after the debacle with the substrates?"
"They might, but we have the replicas for them, and that buys us time."
"How long until they realize there are bugs that prevent them from fully operationalizing their site in Cuba, that time is slipping away and you cannot assume you are not being watched," said the handler, an older gentleman from a gentile class.
"Support my plan," said Simon.
"Jai Wilcox met off books with one of ours who was running a deep cover operation in Pakistan, just came up for air and got word to us. Seems when he studied your movements, financials and kill patterns in detail and he made some leaps based on all your missions. He suspected you were aligned with us, what makes you think the mole he was hunting at the CIA doesn't?"
"Because I'm still alive," said Simon.
"I'll find the mole and his killer too if I can, but it may be time to read in the CIA," said Simon.
"Finding the mole is the CIA's job, that's secondary to maintaining your cover, do not let Annie Walker steer your mission for the Crown, remember she's trying to nab a Russian spy and we need you in play," said the older man.
"I haven't lost sight of my goals, once I have the Russians believing I've turned her, we can read her in and it will be a huge win for us and the Americans."
The old man nodded, "I sincerely hope you know what you're doing here because the stakes have gone up a thousand fold."
