Chapter Eight: Time and Power

It has been a few days since the battle with the salmons and since Mothra was reborn. The three agents and two humans watched as Godzilla and Mothra trailed behind the boat as it steamed it's way to Inkopolis. Godzilla was swimming with his spines sticking out of the water while Mothra was bobbing up and down on the surface. Both of the monster were traveling about roughly the same speed as the boat.

Things have been pretty calm since leaving Infant Island behind and the battle that was fought there. Each of the agents were undressed from the salmon run gear and back in their normal outfits. Four and Eight were at the stern of the boat, gazing at the two titans following. Four had her back against the railing with one of her arms gripping on one side. Her other arms was holding a cup of orange juice, mouth slurping on the straw. Eight was resting her body forward, supported by her arms on the railing. Her tentacles waved, caught in the sea breeze that was rolling through. She watched with interest at the monsters, for good reason, since she had been mostly underground for most of her life.

Up on top of the boat mast was Agent Three. She was able to find her way up due to some climbing skills, being that she wanted to be alone. She stood on the mast with one foot on a spar and a hand around the pole, her cape blowing in the wind. Three took this time to think of how to convince the octarians about the two giant monsters. Since Obtavio was gone, his senior commanders might have been the ones in charge now. Based on her time as an agent, Three knew that octarian commanders were stubborn and weren't going to listen to their enemies.

The agent looked down below to Mark and Madison. Since the start of the trip back, Madison and Mark continued to monitor and collect more information about Godzilla and Mothra since that was the only thing they could do until the boat reached land. Maybe Godzilla and Mothra could hopefully be the guardians that would bring the bitter history of the two civilizations to a close.

It had only been a few days since the arrival of the fleet in the solar system that they once called home. Zak looked around the ship's hanger bay as supplies were being loaded onboard the transports that would take them down to the surface. A lot of people were committed to the same goal as him, bringing back humanity to it's rightful home. The humans that were driven off the planet were able to find similar planets that had similar dimensions close to Earth. Slowly they began to settle onto the new planets and rebuild civilization. It took hundreds of years to bring humanity back to good shape before the world wars. Some people had doubted that Earth wasn't worth going back to since their past ancestors had screwed Earth enough and not did anything until it was too late. They didn't want to get involved and further the damage that humanity left. The talk of Earth slowly began to fade from history as more and more humans were born on the replacement planets. After 12,000 years though, people who were still holding the goal of returning to Earth gathered and wanted to start over.

Zek was one of those who wanted that goal, especially since his name along with the family history was destroyed. He had to fight and prove to others that he was worthy of the position he held. Inside the ship, Zek looked at the conditions onboard. The cameras on the ship showed everything was green. In the hanger bay was filled with activity as fighters were being positioned on the catapults for takeoff.

"Good, everything checks out." Zek filed the report to the commander of the fleet. He was the captain of the ship he was on but not the one in charge. The order fell on Admiral Kirov who was in control of the fleet. The united earth fleet, totaling twenty-four ships, made study speed in the direction of Earth. Eighteen of the ships consisted of six Halo class frigates, eight Edict class corvettes, and four Goliath class cruisers. The head of the fleet were the two Sharon class carriers in the middle. Each of them carried Polaris and Parrot fighters and Falcon strike bombers.

Zek was in command of one of the Sharons while his superior commander was in charge of the other. He looked on the dashboard to the four green ships. The four ships were the ones that were carrying the scientist and technicians that would set up civilization on the surface of the planet. They were the only ones that would be able to send a message back of their success or failure. While in thought, a message appeared from a scout drone that were sent ahead to scan the surface of Earth for life.

After the boat that they were on had reached Inkopolis, the thee agents made their way to Octo Canyon to report back on their success to Captain Cuttlefish. Cuttlefish welcomed back each of the agents from the mission. Despite his age, he could see the agents were both exhausted and hungry. It became pretty normal after him to see them in this state after a mission. Several missions had taken place already that required the cooperation between the three agents and were generally successful. Cuttlefish offered warm refreshing soup for the agents then went back to monitoring Agent One and Two in the field. Callie and Marie had just finished up a mission scouting the octarians and should be back momentary. The agents took this time to eat up and rest for the duration ahead. Both Mothra and Godzilla could only be seen from Octo Canyon. The two giant monsters were just outside of the bay, hidden from Inkopolis of course.

After Marie and Callie returned from the mission, things began to progress. All of them super jumped to the outskirts of octo canyon, to a cliff that was close to the monsters. All of them made it in one piece. It did take a little time for all to arrive as Cuttlefish was the one to super jump after the agents and before his grandchildren. He required assistance at sticking the landing since he was an old timer.

Madison and Mark arrived simultaneously in a helicopter that was controlled by their AI and brought the orb to the Splatoon. The question had to be asked now. Who was going to be the one that should break the orb? Cuttlefish theorized that there was a possibility that maybe they all could hold onto the orb at the same time and use their strength to break it. Although he guessed that the orb had limited power and could only be used on one person. That one person who should speak to the monsters should be easy to answer right away. It was obvious that Agent Three should be the one to break it since she was the one to bravely approach Godzilla and gain that vision.

After Mark handed the orb to Agent Three, she applied pressure onto the orb at an attempt to squeeze it. The intensity in her eyes loosened all of a sudden after short time, just when it looked like she was about to break it. What was wrong? The senor agent looked down at the orb with a blank stare. She held back at squeezing the orb any further. She felt like it wasn't the right thing to do... to have the power all to herself. What would happen if she were to die unexpectedly in the future? What then?

She strongly wanted to pursue the suggestion from Cuttlefish. All of the splatoon should be able to communicate with the monsters. Three convinced the splatoon to reach out and grab onto the orb in anyway. Everyone in the Splatoon except for Cuttlefish began to squeeze the orb at the same time. It took the strength of everyone to make the orb break. The orb shattered and unleashed a green mist around everyone in the vicinity. The mist felt almost like rain as it had the coldness and the sprinkles. Thankfully, the mist didn't burn their skins like what rain would usually do. The mist lasted for a period of time before dissipating.

Three looked at her fellow agents to see if there were any physical changes. Nothing! There didn't seem to be any changes on the outside. The only changes that seemed to affect them all was the sparkles. All of them seemed to be sparkling, almost like the effects applied to a cartoon on television. That was the closest thing that Three could describe the experience. Callie and Marie, in particular; had sparkles that were brighter then the three agents. Was it because they were important for some reason? Before Three could question about it more, the sparkles dissipated and no longer surrounded the splatoon.

Three's attention turned to the titians to see if they remained in place, only to see that Godzilla was heading for them. Godzilla had took notice of them and was looking down at them with curiosity. He was intimidating to the naked eye, even though they knew he won't harm them.

It was now or never! The agents needed to test if the orb worked or not. It was a bit awkward, it was like when they first met Mark and Madison. Nevertheless, Three decided to take the lead. All she said was, "Hey Godzilla! Can you hear me?" Three expected the titian to respond physically but all she got was a voice that seemed to be coming from within her own head.

"I can hear you alright."

She thought she was hearing herself but it wasn't. The voice sounded muscular in a way but it was medium pitch. Three expected Godzilla to begin talking out of his mouth like an animated character so she was a little disappointed to see that not happen. Godzilla's form of communication seemed to have been though inner speech, which was fair enough for her.

"Wow..." Eight and Four were awed by how Godzilla was communicating.

"Okay..." Three began to let up the fear and began speaking normally. "We want to understand what you want from us. What can we do to avoid the same fate as the life forms before us?"
