A tap. It was small and feint, but it was there. She was just going over her paperwork sent to her farm by the military. The farmer had left to go into the district for groceries. The orphanage kids were playing with each other outside. The nanny was taking the day off and left the kids to her care.
When she felt the poke to her stomach, her eyes bulged in shock. Her instincts made her turn her head.
"ERE-" She stopped short.
Shit...
She was so stupid. She had forgotten for one second. He wasn't here. He was gone. Fighting, living under the enemy's roof. She had no idea what was going to happen to him but she had to have faith. She hasn't doubted him at all when he left. But still...
She bit her lip in disappointment. She felt another kick. A few tears ran down her cheeks. She missed him everyday...
Her man.
Her lover.
Her devil.
But she knew crying wouldn't solve anything. She had to be strong for him. With a deep breath entering her lungs, she wiped away the tear and got back to work.
Eren
The trenches reeked with the smell of blood. The gunfire was loud and clear. He sat with the other Eldian soldiers. Fear covered all their faces except his.
One of the soldiers next to him clutched at his wedding ring. Eren's eyes dropped down. He couldn't bear to look at any of them. They were all going to die. Whether by the gunfire and artillery shell or by him.
They were all the same...
They were just fighting to protect the ones they love. They all have a family to come home to.
He was a piece of shit and he knew it. Those soldiers were fighting to protect their families. But it didn't matter.
He was going to kill their families regardless.
...
He was all alone. Now was his chance. He grabbed a piece of cloth from his jacket and bit down. With a sharp blade in his hands, he plunged it down his left leg. The pain was horrible but he pushed through. He could feel the steam already rising but he willed it to stop. He wrapped the large gauze around his stump and tightened it. He took one deep breath.
One more step.
He grabbed one of the bullets and gouged his left eye out, his teeth gritted with pain and determination. The steam was coming again but he willed it once again to stop. He wrapped more of the gauze around the right side of his head. Once it was done he laid his head back, taking another deep breath. He looked at his stump with his one eye and sighed. When he looked up he saw the signal.
Marley had won. The war was over.
The time to strike was coming soon.
