Chapter 10: Past Mistakes

Roughly 4 Years Ago….

A school bell rings as students exit the classrooms of a high school. Tadashi walks down the main hall towards the front entrance looking for Hiro. Tadashi then spots him going into the computer lab, and follows him.

Why is he going into the computer lab after hours? He knows he's supposed to wait for me at the front entrance, Tadashi thought as he entered the computer lab.

As Tadashi looked around, he spotted Hiro at the back of the lab, working on one of the computers. He had a USB drive plugged in and was focusing on the screen. The screen then lit up red, and Hiro unplugged the USB drive and got up, stuffing it in his backpack as he did so. Hiro then left through the back door of the lab. Tadashi went to the front entrance to wait for Hiro, who showed up a few minutes after he did.

"Okay, let's go home," Tadashi said, worried about what his brother did on the computer, but not wanting to bring up the fact he had spied on his younger brother.

"Yeah," Hiro spoke as he followed his older brother down the road to the bus stop.

Present Day…

Hiro was confused as to why someone would rob him. He didn't have anything that was actually of any value; at least, that was what he thought at first. Then he saw which desk drawer was open. He started to panic as he checked its contents, specifically an empty red and black USB drive case.

No, no, no, no! He thought as he saw that the USB drive wasn't in it.

Why this, of all the things that could happen? He thought as he ran down the stairs.

Why didn't I listen to Tadashi? He thought as he ran past Aunt Cass and out of the café, Aunt Cass giving him a confused look.

I should've just told him that I was being bullied. He thought as he ran past the police station, Chief Cruz looking at him in confusion.

Why did I create it? He thought as he ran through the warehouse district, panting. Globby noticed him and waved, only to be ignored.

Why did I make that virus? He thought as he hurriedly ran to the abandoned candy factory that they used as a base, GoGo driving up on her bike on the road.

Now whoever has it can do some very dangerous things with it… he thought as he inputted the password to enter, not noticing GoGo coming up behind him.

"Why didn't I get rid of it when I had the chance?" he spoke as he ran through the base and into his newly finished tech lab.

"Why did I even bother with it in the first place? I should've just told Tadashi what was going on," he said as he logged into the main computer.

He started typing as GoGo entered the lab, having heard his words.

"Told Tadashi about what? What did you do?" GoGo asked with a worried expression on her face. Hiro had never acted like this before, and was starting to worry her, especially after they had found out that his house had been robbed during the ceremony.

"I…" Hiro spoke with worry filling every inch of voice as he noticed GoGo.

"Hey, whatever got stolen from your house, it isn't that bad," she spoke, trying to comfort him.

"Actually it is! Back when I was in high school, I created this computer virus, an extremely dangerous computer virus. It got a lot of people hurt. If I don't find out who stole it and stop them, they could end up destroying the city!" he said, his voice full of fear and worry.

"Okay, 1: why would you create a computer virus that could hurt people, and 2: what exactly does it do?" GoGo questioned, now starting to wonder what exactly happened to Hiro while he was in high school.
