'Wei WuXian' A voice Echoed from the darkness….

He couldn't focus on it, it seemed to be everywhere and nowhere at the same time. Some disembodied calling out to him, although he could have sworn it was a man.

'A-Xian'

Another voice joined the first, this one sounded like a woman.

'Wei Ying'

Another man's voice joined the others and soon he was surrounded by echoes, echoes of voices. People he knew and cared about but couldn't find. He looked around panicked, looking for each voice, trying to find its origin, but failing each time. His panic was rising with each successive failure.

'Where are you?...I can't find you' His voice didn't conceal his concern 'I can't find you'

Suddenly slow melodious sounds added to the already confusing cacophony of noise surrounding him, however unlike the rest if he listened and focused he could decipher where this was coming from. Slowly he edged his way forwards towards that alien and yet somewhat familiar sound.

Lan Zhan had to keep hold of his iron will to prevent himself from throwing the instrument on the floor and running over to the bed as soon as he saw Wei Ying's fingers twitch. It was working, at last there was some result. Calming his breathing he concentrated on keeping the music at its set pace and volume, knowing that any misstep on his part could result in damaging Wei Ying's consciousness. Jiang Yanli, Wei Ying's older sister, knelt beside his bed holding his hand as she had done for much of the last few days. Jiang Cheng had tried to remain as well but as the leader of the Sect he had work to do, and three people all in one sick room it soon got overcrowded.

He couldn't help but feel a little jealous as Wei Ying slowly showed signs of waking, his hand curling protectively round that of his sister, his face leaning into her palm when she stroked his cheek to try and comfort him. Still Lan Zhan knew he could best help Wei Ying by keeping up with his music, and a part of his mind told him it was foolish to be jealous of a brother and sister sharing affection anyway.

Eventually Wei Ying opened his eyes only to have to close then again at the bright glare coming through the window. His mind swum and his head hurt. When he tried to move his hands and legs automatically to look around a sick feeling invaded his whole body and he had to still himself to avoid throwing up anything in his stomach. What had happened to him to get him into this state?

'A-Xian your awake'…Yanli…his sister….for some reason he wasn't a hundred percent sure.

'You had us worried, now your awake I need to go and tell Jiang Cheng he has been worried about you to'….

Before he could say anything the small hand left his and he felt rather than saw her leave the room. A moment later the music that had been in the background since he woke up stopped, only then was he aware of another presence in the room. A man approached him, not much older than himself, and the two looked at each other for a moment. Something inside Wei Ying told him he knew this person to, but he didn't know where.

Lan Zhan gave one of his rare smiles, genuinely happy to see his love awake. Wei Ying though still looked confused and unfocused, and was not responding as expected. Lan Zhan sat down at the edge of the bed and took one of Wei Ying's hands in his own.

'You are a fool, you nearly killed yourself with that stunt on the roof'

Wei Ying's eyes were still unfocused as he held his own but slowly it seemed the fog began to clear.

'Zhan….Lan Zhan' Wei Ying stated as if he was trying the name out for the first time.

Lan Zhan nodded

'You hit your head when you fell, luckily I managed to catch you in time so you didn't do any more physical damage…..' Lan Zhan's eyes where welling with tears but he didn't try to hide them. 'You have been unconscious for 4 days'

'The music I heard, it was you?' Wei Ying said, again without an inflection in his voice.

Lan Zhan nodded once again.

'You and I'….Wei Ying began but was interrupted when the door opened and in rushed his two siblings.

Lan Zhan made to get off the bed and make room for the Jiang siblings but Wei Ying grabbed his wrist and wouldn't let go. Inwardly smiling Lan Zhan made himself comfortable and patted Wei Ying's hand with his free one. Yanli looked pleased, smiling at the scene in front of her, while Jiang Cheng just rolled his eyes and pretended Lan Zhan wasn't there.

Luckily Wei Ying's confusion didn't last long when he woke up, he soon remembered where he was and who everyone else was. In the few days since the battle of Nevernight the clans had taken control of the city and the Wen Sect had been exterminated. A few people had managed to escape but where currently being hunted down for their war crimes. The other Sects had witnessed Wei Ying and Lan Zhan's musical lure on the rooftop, with some of them determined that only the renowned HanGuang-Jun could pull off such a feat. Others had seen it as Wei Ying's use of forbidden arts and had become concerned about the power involved. But it didn't matter which way the Sects looked they couldn't overlook that the two had almost decided the battle on their own. Also with Wei Ying being unconscious and both the YunMeng Sect and Lan Zhan standing vidual by his bedside, there was no way anyone was getting anywhere close to him to see if the rumours of the forbidden arts was actually true.

Unfortunately though with the news of Wei Ying waking up those same Sects where now racing towards Lotus Pier demanding answers. Although a Sect leader, Jiang Cheng was new to his position and the sheer number of visitors he was receiving along with letters and …thinly veiled…invitations was starting to show. Yanli also was getting very worried about Wei Ying, she wasn't sure how much longer he would be safe at Lotus Pier before everyone demanded some kind of response. Wei Ying himself, although awake was still very weak and would have been incapable of defending himself, either physically or mentally, against the growing tide. Lan Zhan had seen the growing unrest happening in the home of the three siblings, although he still refused to leave Wei Ying's side further than the nearest table to eat a meal.

In the end though Lan Zhan offered everyone and option that would decrease the stress load on Lotus Cove and allow it to rebuild without the constant veiled threats of the other Sects. Reluctantly the three siblings agreed and as soon as Wei Ying was physically well enough, he was on his way back to Gusu.
