Ash vs. Paul

-The Next Day-

"Alright Ash," Paul said. "In preparation for Lance's battle, and my entrance exam, our battle shall begin." On the sidelines stood May and Alexa. May was there to cheer on her boyfriend, while Alexa was there to watch her brother show off his own arsenal of dragon type Pokemon.

"Go Noivern!" Ash said, sending out the bat-like dragon from the Kalos Region.

"Weavile, stand by for battle," Paul yelled, throwing out the Dark/Ice type. "Use Ice Shard!"

"Noivern, use Flamethrower!"

Weavile fired many sharp ice shards at the flying/dragon type, but the Flamethrower melted the ice and directly hit Weavile. Weavile flew back, but landed on its feet, dragging one claw across the ground to slow its momentum.

"Weavile, use U-turn!" Weavile ran up, hitting Noivern with a punch to the face, before returning to Paul.

"Go Ursaring!" Paul said as he threw out the bear Pokemon.

"Noivern return!" Ash said, opting to switch his style. "Go Salamence!" Ash's Salamence entered the field and stood on all fours. As it craned its neck upwards so it would be eye-level with the Ursaring, it let out a mighty roar as gold stars shimmered around it. An Unphased Ursaring, struck its claws together, ready for a fight.

"WOW! I've never actually seen a real Salamence before," Alexa said. "But I thought they were normally blue. Why is Ash's green? It's not sick, is it!?"

"No, he's not sick, he's just a Shiny," May said to the young girl. "Sometimes a Pokemon will have an alternate coloring compared to others. It's like a rare genetic trait. Whenever they come out of their balls, they have these beautiful stars shimmering around them."

"That's so cool!" Alexa said.

"Ash also has a Shiny Noctowl," May said, before pulling out a Pokeball of her own. "And I just got myself a Shiny Zoroark."

"Maybe someday you and I can have a battle together!" Alexa said. "I'd love to learn about Contests, and the battling style that goes with it."

"I'd be more than happy to teach you someday," May said, smiling at Ash's sister.

"Maybe I will even have a strong Shiny Pokemon of my own like the two of you!" Alexa said in a cheerful voice.

After conversing with the young trainer, May couldn't help but think to herself. 'Even though the two aren't actually related, they both have the same enthusiasm when it comes to Pokemon.'

"Salamence use Extreme Speed!"

"Ursaring use-" Before Paul could call out his command, Ash's Shiny Salamence flew quickly across the field and slammed into Ursaring.

Ursaring fell on the ground, and began sleeping.

"Rest?" Ash asked.

"Correct," Paul replied. "Now Ursaring, use Snore!"

"Salamence, use Double-Edge!"

Ursaring began to snore so loudly that the opposing dragon took some damage. Salamence, on the other hand, shook it off and once again sped towards Ursaring slamming into it and knocking it out.

"Ursaring return. Weavile, stand by for battle. Use Ice Punch!"

"Salamence us Fire Fang!"

The two Pokemon charged head on at each other and met in the center of the field. Catching Weavile in its mouth, Ash's Salamence bit down on its body, sending the Pokemon up in flames. Before it passed out, however, Weavile slashed Salamence across the face, freezing the two in a large block of ice.

"Let's call this one a draw," Ash said, returning his frozen dragon.

"Sounds good to me," Paul said, returning his Weavile. Without missing a beat, the two trainers threw out their next Pokemon.

"Go Garchomp!" Ash said, throwing out his third dragon type Pokemon.

"Go Torterra!" Paul exclaimed, throwing out his starter.

"Garchomp, use Flamethrower!"

"Torterra, use Solar Beam!"

The two attacks collided in the center of the field, causing a harsh white light to envelop the two Pokemon. When it faded, both Pokemon stood locked on with one another, ready to enter one on one combat.

Torterra rose onto its hind legs, and slammed its front legs into the ground, causing Garchomp to rise on a pedestal of earth. Torterra's claws glowed white as it charged up the mound with a Rock Climb. Garchomp on the other hand showed off a toothy grin as it jumped off, surrounding itself in Draconic energy, meeting Torterra with a Dragon Rush. Garchomp drove Torterra into the ground below and stood atop the large behemoth. It spread out its arms and let out a large battle cry, but was soon knocked off of its opponent when it had used an Earthquake to knock it off balance.

Torterra stood tall once more, slamming its feet into the ground, using Frenzy Plant rather than Rock Climb. Large, thorny vines ripped across the field as they smacked and jostled Garchomp around. When Garchomp had regained its focus, it cloaked itself in orange energy and shot into the sky, breaking free of the attack. Garchomp then dove forwards, crashing into Torterra with a Giga Impact, causing a large cloud of dust to rise on the field.

Garchomp stood on its two feet drained of its energy, awaiting for Torterra to be revealed. Shooting through the cloud was a flurry of leaves. Garchomp crossed its arms in an attempt to shield its face from the oncoming Leaf Tornado, but was unable to anticipate Torterra crashing into the Dragon/Ground type with a powerful Double-Edge. Garchomp flew backwards, digging its claws into the ground to slow itself, right in front of Ash.

"Let's end this Torterra!" Paul shouted. "Rock Climb!"

"Garchomp!" Ash called out. "Use Draco Meteor."

Torterra reared up on its hind legs once more, ready to slam its front legs onto the ground. Before it could, however, Garchomp performed a baseball-slide underneath the Sinnoh starter with an orange ball charged in its mouth. Garchomp released its ball of energy from below, striking Torterra in the stomach, sending it flying into the sky and then crashing back down to the ground, knocking it out.

Ash and Paul walked across the battlefield to their respective Pokemon.

"Great work, Garchomp," Ash said, to the Pokemon which towered over him with a toothy grin.

'All in a day's work,' Garchomp said in a pumped up tone. 'I'm ready to kick some Dragonite ASS!'

Ash looked over at his former opponent and saw Paul kneeling down next to his Torterra using some healing items on it. He rubbed its head, assuring the Pokemon that it had fought well. "I guess you've won Ash," Paul said. "I gotta say, your Garchomp is quite the powerhouse. It sure reminds me of Cynthia's, albeit with a more Lax personality."

"That's right," Ash replied. "I think I'm ready to battle Lance. And Paul, you passed. Welcome to my team. You are now the third member, next to May and Ritchie.

"Great," Paul said. "But how come May didn't have to prove herself to you."

"Because she's my girlfriend and we've battled a lot in the past."

"Oh I see, and I haven't? Maybe if I had started flirting with you on Mount Silver I could have gotten a freebee too" Paul said, making both men laugh.

"Paul," Ash said. "There is a favor I need to ask you. I have to become the strongest trainer possible in order to defeat this new threat. In order to do so, I must catch any legendary possible to fight alongside us. I'm going to be busy training for my battle against Lance-"

"Say no more," Paul replied. "I'll go look for Legendaries while you train. I'll call you if I see any. Good luck with your battle against Lance."
