Nico POV
Somehow Will convinced Nico to help teach sword and music lessons. It was probably those cute puppy dog eyes that Will did that Nico couldn't resist. Which is why Will came bursting into Nico's cabin bright and early to wake him up.
"Come Nico! Lots of kids are counting on our lessons! It'll be fun!" Will had this big smile and was glowing slightly.
"Ugh. Can't I sleep a bit longer?" Nico groaned.
"No! Come on bed head." Will poked him.
"Kids are sticky."
"You agreed to do this."
"You voluntold me." Nico smirked at Will. Will just sighed and dragged Nico out of bed.
"Hi kids! I'm Will and this is Nico. We're going to teach you some music today!" Will was beaming. The handful of kids seemed mostly interested.
As Nico sat there watching Will talk, he noticed a girl in the back looking mildly uncomfortable. He quietly walked over to her and sat down.
"Are you doing ok?" Nico asked. She smiled and whispered.
"I can't understand him." She pointed to Will.
"Um… okay. Are you ears okay?" Nico wasn't sure what to think.
"I think so. I don't know." The girl frowned.
"What's your name?"
"Zoe."
"Nico. Do you want me to take you to the infirmary after class?"
"Sure." Zoe smiled.
Nico kept an eye on Zoe the whole class to make sure she understood everything. At the end, Nico brought her to Will.
"What's up?" Will checked her pulse.
"I can't understand what you're saying and I hear something ringing."
"Hmm. Let me see." Will looked in her ears.
"It seems to me you have a bird in your ear." Will pretended to pull something out of Zoe's ear and then grabbed a pair of purple hearing aids out of his pocket (did he seriously keep that in his pocket?). She giggled.
"This should help." Will knelt and helped Zoe put them on. He turned them on and Zoe smiled.
"Let me know if you have any problems, okay?" Zoe nodded and ran off to the dining pavilion.
"You keep the most obscure things in your pockets." Nico commented.
"It's called prepared." Will grinned and wrapped his arm around Nico's waist. Nico tensed since he wasn't totally comfortable with Will in public.
"You okay?" Will noticed Nico's body language.
"Yeah."
Nico was getting nervous for the campfire. He was planning on surprising Will and he couldn't wait to see Will's face.
"Hey Kayla! I have a favor to ask." Nico fidgeted with his sleeve.
"Sure what is it?"
"Can you play the guitar?"
"Yeah. Do you want to play something?"
"Yes." Nico told her the song.
Later at the campfire Nico sat close to Will. Kayla was on his right and Will on his left. Once everyone was seated they started singing.
It was mostly cheesy songs (especially the one about grandma putting her armor on) and so Nico didn't sing much. At the end Kayla stood up to get everyone's attention.
"Nico has requested a song to sing." Kayla smiled and sat down. She started playing and Nico stood up.
"The other night dear, as I lay sleeping I dreamed I held you in my arms." Nico's voice was shaky at first.
"But when I awoke, dear, I was mistaken. So I hung my head and I cried." Nico felt more confident after getting through the first verse.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know dear, how much I love you." Nico grabbed Will's hands. "Please don't take my sunshine away." Will was smiling so big. Nico tried to sing more but he started crying so Will continued.
"I'll always love you and make you happy, if you will only say the same. But if you leave me and love another, you'll regret it all some day." Will pulled Nico into a hug. Everyone was swaying to the song or crying or both.
"You are my sunshine, my only sunshine. You make me happy when skies are gray. You'll never know dear, how much I love you. Please don't take my sunshine away." Nico felt so secure in Will's hug. He didn't want it to ever end but soon Will's beautiful singing and Kayla's strumming stopped.
Everyone cheered and Will leaned in and kissed Nico in the lips, startling him. Nico pushed Will away.
"S-sorry." Nico ran off into the woods, Will not far behind. Nico didn't know what was wrong with him. He wanted to kiss Will but something kept holding him back.
After running for what seemed like forever, Nico slowed down and stopped. He sat on a log and heard Will sit next to him.
"I'm sorry Nico. I shouldn't have done that. I'm really sorry." Will sounded like he was on the edge of tears.
"No. It's my fault, Will. I freaked out. I- I didn't know what to do and… and I ran. I'm sorry." Nico slumped and put his head in his hands, "you probably hate me now. I wouldn't blame you."
"No! No. I don't hate you Nico. I really like you." Will sighed, having said it out loud. Nico lifted his head and looked at Will.
"I like you too, Sunshine." Nico muttered, turning red. Will smiled and put his arms around Nico.
"I thought so."
"You had your doubts."
"I did not!" Will turned red.
"I know you did Sunshine!" Nico smiled really big and kissed Will. Every nerve in his body was numb. It was all Will could do to kiss Nico back. They fell to the ground laughing.
"I love you Death Boy." Will cupped Nico's face in his hands.
"I love you too, Sunshine." Nico had the biggest smile Will had ever seen him with as they walked back to the campfire, hand in hand.
