Chapter 8. Lilli

…FPO…
Wyntir slashed his sword at the last of the large frog monsters. Spinning on his heel, he dashed forward to aid his supporters, who had been using their slingshots to hold of the Warshadows as the monster Burst and crumbled to ash and soot, dropping a single medium sized crystal. The twins' ears perked up as Isabell and Azalea, better known as Zig and Zag, heard him coming behind and stepped to the left as they each loosed another metal ball into the ghastly creatures that were Warshadows.
The monsters looked like one-eyed paper monsters made from a child's nightmare. They could extend parts of their body like ink drawn along a glass pane, and had murderously long claws at the end of each finger.
Wyntir felt his new Fencer ability again as he moved faster than he had before, slashing his new fencer's blade at the monsters again and again. The gift from a monsterphilia fan had been his new weapon since his level up a few days before. The trio had been working on going deeper, hoping to reach the double-digit levels soon. Today, though had been about collecting drop items and crystals to sell for supplies.
A few weeks ago, Wyntir had lost one of his enchanted suit coats. He wanted to get something to replace it but hadn't been able to find anything he could afford.
Once the monsters were dispatched, Wyntir looked around, and set himself on watch as the twin supports lived up to their names and raced in zigzag patterns around the area to gather up all of the crystals they could.
As the twins returned with their gathered loot, Wyntir's stomach gave a low growl of hunger. After a moment, he rubbed the back of his head, and chuckled as the twins giggled. "I guess that mean's it's time for lunch."
They hadn't been in the dungeon for long today, since their group typically went down after the early rush, and before the more prepared afternoon rush went in. Still, when it was time to eat, it was time to eat. So, they sat down in their normal pattern, and opened their lunches. Wyntir had rice with some fruit and chicken that was absolutely covered in Teriyaki sauce. The twins each had large rice balls with beef in the center of them.
After eating, the trio double checked the area, and set off to where they knew a path downward would be. Things sometimes moved around in the upper levels of the dungeon, but it was a good chance that things would stay in the general area they had been.
As they traveled, Zig or Zag would occasionally see a crystal or drop item another party had left behind and would move over to pick it up as the rest of the group watched them.
The trio reached the path to the next level down without any more monsters spawning or attacking them.

That night, after dropping the twins off at the home of the Miach Familia, Wyntir went home, and deposited his coins into the wooden box that now held the Familia Coffers. It was hidden under a loose board in the pulpit of the small rundown church that they inhabited.
It had originally been an old clay pot, but just after Monsterphilia, they, Hestia, Bell, and Wyntir had agreed to spend some coin on an actual box for their coffers, and to buy a small notebook for keeping track of the expenses. Wyntir and his group had made a good haul today, running down into the dungeon and getting extra crystals, they had come up with 45,800 Vallis. Splitting it evenly, the twins got a shared 22,900. Wyntir had asked them a few times over the month they had been a party if they wanted to change the agreement, but the twins wanted half of the gold, to split.
So, adding in his share, and calculating out how much to pay, Wyntir realized something. If they could do this for another week, and he kept the allowance that each member of the Familia got about the same, then they would be able to pay for the small church they had had a loan on by the end of the week.
Only 2 months in, and because they had all been working hard, Bell and Wyntir in the dungeon, with Hestia working in the town, they would be able to pay the money lender back everything. As he was about to put the coffer box away, the door opened, and Bell walked in.
After greeting each other, Bell gave a larger than normal pouch. "I got a new Supporter today! Her name is Lilli and she's really nice!" Reaching into the pouch, Wyntir counted out the coins. The shiny 500 Vallis coins were new, and still sparkled with light.
"17,500 Vallis is a good haul. Did you make sure your supporter got a fair cut?" Wyntir was confident Bell would have. The white-haired boy was young but had a strong sense of right and wrong.
"Mhm. We each got half."
Wyntir nodded as he added Bell's input and then put the coffers away. With the familia being so small, they each had their own tasks. Wyntir's main tasks were money related. Making sure that there was enough money for everyone, and paying of any debt that the familia had. Bell mostly swept, cleaned, and did little tasks, while Hestia mostly provided food and made sure that the boys' stats were updated regularly.
"Hey, Wyntir, how much did you bring in today?" Bell and Wyntir had been competing against each other to see who could bring home the most. Bell had been bringing more in for most of the first few weeks, but since Wyntir had partied up with his supporters, he had been bringing in more Vallis daily.
"My cut for today was 22,900." Bell slumped and moaned. He had been so sure that he would have beaten Wyntir today. He had a new knife, and a party member, so why was Wyntir getting so much more coin? Was being level 2 really that big of a deal?
…FPO…
After dinner, Hestia asked Wyntir to come upstairs so they could talk. Bell was busy cleaning up from their meal, and sweeping the downstairs area.
Once they were both up there, Hestia sat on the edge of the pulpit, and patted the wood for Wyntir to sit next to her.
"What happened with Ganesha that made you act like that?" Hestia asked after Wyntir had been sat for a moment. "That's not like you."
Wyntir sighed and tried to figure out how to tell his Kami about his family. After a moment he shook his head slightly and decided to bite the bullet. "My Grandmother was his daughter." Hestia sat up straight at that admission, her hair seeming to gain a life of it's own.
"He didn't come to their wedding, and despite her being a member of his familia years ago, he was mostly and absentee father, choosing to run the Familia and have Monsterphillia every year for his own birthday and never even said happy Birthday to her." Remembering the pain of his Grandmother's voice when she told the stories of being an adventurer, this chance to tell someone, anyone, was like opening a flood gate.
"She was a demi, his child, and a member of his Familia, and he barely spent any time with her at all."
Hestia leaned over and hugged Wyntir tight. What would it be like to have a child of her Familia she didn't love? She couldn't imagine it. She, who had been without Familia for so long. There would never be a day she didn't cherish each Child of her blessing.
She listened to her Child speak on for a few more minutes before Hestia realized something.
Wyntir's Grandmother was a Demi, a born child of a diety. Wyntir was clearly of her line, so meant…..
"Wyntir, doesn't that make you a Demi too?"
