Bold- Memory

I used this to differentiate between real time and memories. You'll see what I mean.

Luz sat on her floor surrounded by saw dust and small pieces of wood. After her date with Amity yesterday, she decided that it was the perfect time to finish her project.

"I can't wait to get this done." Luz said.

She heard a knock on her door and stood up. She walked over to the door and opened it.

"Amelia!"

"Ready to go, Luz?"

"Hold on, I just need to grab my bag and then it's off to school."

Luz walked to her desk and grabbed her bag. Amelia looked at the mess on the floor and back at Luz.

"So, what are you working on?" Amelia asked.

"It's a secret. What I can tell you is that I can't wait for it to be finished."

"You should be cautious today; the others were talking about you yesterday. They were trying to figure out your secret."

"What? Why would they be trying to figure that out?"

"Apparently they realized how expensive your presents are. I think you should be careful today."

"I'll keep that in mind. Thanks Amelia."

They made it to school and went their separate ways. Luz met up with Willow and talked about this thing she used to do with her grandfather. Down the hall a little, Boscha was changing her nails with Amity.

"Too wiggly, too obvious, now we're talkin'! I think today is a talons day - rawr!" Boscha said.

"Hey girls! Time to bug out at my birthday party! Invite only, but you witches are my VIP's!" Skara said.

"Are these made of real insect wings?" Amity asked.

"My dad spared no expense! You only turn 15 once!"

"You only turn every age once Skara..." Boscha said.

"Have you guys seen Luz? I still need to give her one." Skara said.

They heard a voice from down the hall and saw Luz and Willow.

"Prepare thyself to do battle like a human! Thumb war!" Luz said.

"It's funny cuz it's stupid! Where did you learn this?" Willow asked.

"I-I-I learned it when I helped Eda get human treasures." Luz lied.

"Found her." Amity said.

"Let's leave them alone for now, they seem a little busy." Boscha said.

A little while later, Luz was getting her books out of her locker.

"Oh my Titan, Willow, I can't wait for photo class. Ima see me some baby Willow!" Luz said in joy, "Seems like yesterday that little seed and I were running around the playground."

"I never thought I'd miss those days as much as I do." Willow said.

"You're the only one whose picture I don't have."

To anyone else it would be weird to have your friend's baby pictures, but this isn't anyone else, this is Luz. She has a picture from Boscha, Skara, Amity, Gus, Amelia, Bo, and Kat but not Willow. Later Luz is putting the memory tweezers in Willow's ear.

"Alright memory melon, let's pick another juicy one!"

"Be careful with my brain!" Willow said.

"Ooo, who says brain surgery is hard?" Luz said.

"How's the work? You know that some prints have greater clarity than others, these are moments that invoke strong emotional response." The teacher said.

"All the colors of the brainbow!" Luz said, getting closer.

"But, if you damage the prints, you'll damage the memories themselves! Be extremely careful." The teacher said.

Willow's memories developed and Luz got to see them.

"Little baby Willow."

Luz performed a duplication spell. The spell created a copy that was a completely normal photo. Any damage caused to the copy has no effect on the mind of memory holder. Luz took a book out of her bag and placed the copy in the book, surrounded by other baby pictures of her friends. Luz and Willow looked at each other's memories and laughed.

"Hey, Luz, what's this memory?" Willow asked.

The memory Willow was referring to was a six year old Luz with a sword in one hand and a trophy in the other.

"Oh, that was my first trophy. Good times."

The bell screamed and the students entered the hall. In the photo room, a person in a black cloak and dark gray mask walked towards Luz's memories. They lit one corner of a picture on fire and left. In the lunch room, Luz and Willow sat down at a table with Gus.

"Hey there, detective, are you solving a crime or about to commit one?"

"This is one problem crime can't solve, my interview for journalism class is due tomorrow! I'm supposed to choose someone 'interesting, accomplished, and noteworthy'! People aren't meant to be all those things! Curse your need for perfection, Gus!"

Luz gave him her apple blood and tried to calm him. Boscha, Skara, Amelia, and Amity came over and sat down. Amity looked at Luz and noticed something off.

"Um, Luz? Are you feeling okay?" Amity asked.

Luz's pupils dilated and she seemed to be out of it.

"W-who's Luz?" Luz asked.

"F-funny joke, Luz." Skara said, slightly nervous for her friend.

"I-I-I'm serious. Who's Luz? A-a-and who're you?" Luz said.

"It's like she doesn't remember anything." Willow said, "Almost as if her memory is... gone!"

Just as Willow realized what happened, Lilith ran up to them.

"You need to come with me." She said.

They didn't question it and just followed her. She led them to the photo room and took them inside. Inside were small remainders of Luz's memories.

"Oh no! What happened?" Willow asked.

"I was on my way out from Amity's lesson and noticed her the fire. I was able to put it out before it spread." Lilith said.

They looked back at Luz, who was being held up by Amelia, playing Boscha's ear.

"We're going to need help." Amity said.

Later, they were at the Owl House. Luz was bumping into everything.

"So, someone set her memories on fire?" Eda asked.

"That is correct." Lilith said, "Is there anything you can do?"

"That really depends on the damage. If it was minor, I could probably fix it from the outside before it's too late. But I think we're past that."

"Edalyn, there has to be something you can do."

"There is one way, but it's terribly dangerous and partially illegal." Eda said, "So you're in the right place! I'll two of you into her mind to fix the damage."

"Normally I'd be upset at your idea's involving crimes, but I'm willing to make an exception for her sake." Lilith said, "So, which of you are going?"

"I think it should be Amelia." Amity said.

"Yeah, you clearly know something about her that you've been hiding, so it only makes sense for you to go." Skara said.

"So, the only question is who's going with you?" Lilith asked.

Amelia looked around the room. Amity, Boscha, and Skara couldn't go in, they needed to cover for her, Luz and who ever went with her. Gus couldn't go, he was clearly busy with his interview. That only lead to one person.

"Willow, will you go with me?" Amelia asked.

"Me? Are you sure?"

"You're the first friend she ever had; you're probably been in more of those memories than anyone."

"Alright. I'll go with you."

"Perfect! Now all we need is to get her to sleep. Lucky for you I can do a sleep-"

Eda was cut off by a loud bang. The looked over and saw Luz on the ground, while Boscha had a frying pan in her hand.

"Okay, she's out." Boscha said.

"Not... what I meant but okay." Eda said before handing them a bell, "Now when you're done, ring that and I'll bring you out. And keep an eye out for her 'Inner Luz', she might help."

Eda sent them in while Boscha, Amity, and Skara went back to school. Gus looked at the stack of dark magic books Eda had and contemplated using them. Lilith brought Eda outside.

"I need to tell the Emperor about what happened. If they didn't know about Luz, there is still someone that is causing harm to the students."

"You go do your job; I'll take care of Princess in there." Eda said.

Lilith summoned her staff and flew away. She didn't like the idea of someone else finding out about the Princess, but that secret didn't matter if the Princess' mind gets destroyed.

Inside Luz's mind, Willow and Amelia looked around. They find a picture frame and tap it.

"I guess this is what we're looking for." Amelia said.

"So, do we just... go in?" Willow asked.

"I guess, I've never really done this before."

They went into the memory and saw it covered in ash and burn marks.

"Woah, this... this is a lot of destruction." Willow said, "Wait, I remember this. This is when Luz thought it would be a good idea to jump off that old rusted slide."

They looked around and found the slide knocked onto its side. Willow and Amelia picked it up and suddenly were brought out of the memory.

"Did... did we do it?" Amelia asked.

They heard laughter and looked at the memory.

A small, five year old Luz stood on top of the slide.

"Luz, I don't think this is a good idea!" Young Willow said, "You still have your hand wrapped up from the swing yesterday!"

"A small injury will not stop my quest to jump off everything on the playground!" Luz said.

"Luz, you might break another bone!"

"Relax, Willy! It's only bones!"

Luz got ready to jump and let gravity take her. She landed awkwardly and her leg buckled. Willow ran over to her and helped her up. Luz didn't care about any pain; she still had a smile on her face and she limped out of the park with Willow.

"So, she's always been like this?" Amelia asked.

"Yep, the day before that, she jumped off the swing and broke her wrist. This day she sprained her ankle." Willow said.

"Well, let's get on with the next memory... Willy." Amelia said with a chuckle.

"Don't you dare." Willow said with a slight laugh at the old nickname.

They moved on to the next memory, which happened to be Luz's first trophy. They were in Luz's room and Willow looked around.

"Wow, what is this place?" Willow asked.

"This is her room... Willow, you'll see things in here that you cannot tell anyone. Do you understand?"

"Yes? Why?" Willow asked, uncertain.

"Just... trust me on this. I'll have Luz explain when we're done."

Amelia picked up the trophy that was on the ground and put it back on Luz's dresser. They were brought out and watched the memory.

Luz was posing with a sword and her trophy.

"Mommy! Take the picture!" The six year old said.

"Okay, Mija. Just a second." Camilia took the photo and hugged Luz, "Oh I'm so proud of you my little witch."

Belos walked into Luz's room and gave her a light pat to the head.

"Daddy, did you see me!? I got first place!"

"I saw my darling Princess. Ready to put your trophy up?"

She nods her head so fast she might've broken her neck. Belos picked her up and she placed her trophy on the top of her dresser.

Willow couldn't believe what she saw seeing. Her friend for over a decade, was the princess. Why didn't Luz tell her this? There must be a reason, right?

"She's... she's the princess."

"Yep." Amelia said.

"And you knew this?"

"Only for about two weeks. Now come on, we have more memories to fix."

They went through memory after memory. From Luz's third birthday to the day she met Violet. From her first day in the baby class to the time she was six and broke Belos arm for trying to eat Violet. They just finished the memory of Luz's first date with Amity.

"Can you believe she laughed so hard that water came out her nose?" Amelia said while laughing.

"She told me about it, but seeing it is much funnier." Willow said, having a hard time not laughing, "Those two are made for each other."

"Yeah, looks like there's only one left."

"This one looks old."

"It is."

They turn around and see someone they didn't expect.

"Luz?"

"You're close, Willy. I'm her Inner Luz, the Gate Keeper of Emotions... or, at least I used to be. Before her mind was burned."

"C-can you help us?" Amelia asked.

"Yes. This is the last memory... her very first memory. It's also why she has kept almost everything about her a secret."

Inner Luz brought them into it. They looked around for anything that needed to be fixed. They eventually found a small crib that was knocked over with stuffed animals and baby toys on the ground. They picked it up and put the toys inside it. They were taken out and looked at the memory.

The Emperor and Empress looked upon the small infant with tears of joy in their eyes.

"We... We're parents." Camilia said.

"She's... beautiful." Belos said, watching as Luz grabbed her father's finger in her little hands, "Luz Gabriella Belos, Princess of the Boiling Isles. You will one day be the most powerful witch on the Boiling Isles."

Luz let out a yawn and her eyes closed. Her parents watched as she slept, feeling even happier than their wedding day.

"I don't understand. That seems like a happy memory. Why would it make her keep everything a secret?" Willow asked.

"Because of what happened later." Inner Luz said.

She placed her hand on the picture and it showed more.

A person in a black cloak and dark gray mask snuck into the nursery later that night. They pulled out a large knife and walked towards the crib. They looked at the Princess peacefully sleeping and raised the knife. They slammed it down and it was about to strike Luz when the hand was grabbed. They were hit by a staff and stumbled backwards. They dropped the knife and looked at who prevented the assassination.

"Lilith Clawthorne."

Lilith put a foot on the knife and kicked it away from Luz's crib. She dodged an attack from them and created a bubble to keep them secured. Luz started to cry and Lilith picked her up and rocked her back and forth. Belos ran in and demanded to know what happened.

"I was doing one final round before heading home when I found this masked person trying to assassinate the Princess." Lilith said.

Belos called the guards immediately.

"Put them in a cell this instant. Tomorrow, they will be petrified." Belos said before taking Luz from Lilith, "Everything will be alright, my Darling Princess, daddy's here. Thank you, Lilith. You have saved my little girls life."

"I was only doing my job." Lilith said.

"No, your job is to be the public face of the Coven. What you've done tonight... I want you to keep a close eye on Luz. But for now, go home. Rest. You've earned it. I have a few things to figure out."

"It was because of that night that her father decided that her true nature would be kept a secret. Not only for her protection, but everyone that knows her. If the person that sent the assassin were to find out about her friends, there's no telling what they would do." Inner Luz said, "Everything is fixed, I can feel more emotions. You've done it."

"Well, we had to help our friend." Willow said.

"And I think it's time to go see how she's doing." Amelia said.

They ring the bell and are taken out of Luz's mind. The entire place was a mess and Gus' voice was heard outside.

"What happened her?" Willow asked.

"Doesn't matter." Eda said, while walking away with King.

Luz got up and looked at Willow. Luz looked away.

"I know what you guys did in there. I'm sorry for keeping everything a secret, Willow." Luz said.

Willow walked up and hugged Luz.

"I understand why you did, Luz."

"Thanks, Willow."
