Chapter 10
Having failed to catch up with her sister, Elsa headed back to the house and spent the rest of that Sunday morning completely sick with worry. She finally got a call around 6:00 in the afternoon, though Elsa tried her best to get Anna to come home she refused stating that she'd be spending the night at a friends house. Elsa debated on going to get her but decided at the very least to give her sister some space so she spent the rest of her alone time studying.
The next morning, Elsa arrived at school listless and fully drained of any sort of energy. She didn't even pay attention when Jack's name was called out in her 3rd period Algebra class until the teacher called his name again and he didn't answer. "Why should I care if he's here or not?" She thought bitterly, "He's not my boyfriend for me to be worrying like this."
Yet there was this nagging feeling in the back of her mind that refused to let her concentrate on her classwork, which is why as soon as she heard the lunch bell ring she jolted up from her seat and in her hurry nearly ran into Ariel who seemed as if she was in a hurry herself. She didn't even stop when Elsa's bumped her she just kept walking which Elsa thought was a bit strange but shrugged it off and rushed out the door.
She was now sitting in the cafeteria lunchroom, with her cellphone to her ear and her fingers drumming nervously on the table "C'mon you jackass pick up the damn phone" She must have called for what seemed like the 4th time when someone finally did answer but it was not the voice she'd expected to hear.
"H-Hello?"
The voice sounded to squeaky to be Jacks, "Hi, Um can I speak to Jack please."
"Sorry, my big brother can't talk right now." Elsa could tell the girl on the other end was trying to sound much older than she was which is why she suddenly found herself grinning in amusement "He's very sick" The girl continued "and needs his sleep goodbye."
The phone went dead on the other end and Elsa could only stare at her phone in confusion "What the hell..." She tried calling back but it kept going to voicemail it got to the point where Elsa grew agitated and shoved her phone back in her pocket deciding to go see him after school not giving much thought to how he'd react to her just showing up unannounced.
It was the sound of someone's tray hitting the table that drew her thoughts away from Jack for the moment, she was ready to glare and demand the person who'd sat near her to go away until she realized it was Flynn.
"What do you want?" She demanded, noticing as he swayed to the side in unison "We need to talk" He finally said, causing Elsa to nearly fall out of her seat in shock, she quickly recomposed herself "Exactly what is it that WE need to talk about?" She questioned.
"It's about Jack." He still seemed hesitant about sitting but did so anyway "I know he's my friend and all but I still feel I should warn you. Don't get too close to him alright?"
"You don't have to worry about that," She said, "I'm not stupid enough to fall for someone like him. Now if you'll excuse me I gotta go."
She stood up to leave and flinched when Flynn reached out and grabbed her arm "Wait." Elsa was about ready to punch him in the jaw when she saw the concern in his eyes "Let Go." she demanded.
He did, even going as far as apologizing "Sorry, Just remember what I said alright?"
Elsa could only nod "As I said, you don't have to worry I'll NEVER fall in love with Jack winters and that's a promise." whirling around, she ran out of the cafeteria and out the back doors leading to the bus area.
It was there that she leaned against the back wall and let herself slide onto the floor, she made sure no one was around before placing her hand over her heart and closing her eyes. "Jack winters you will NEVER own my heart EVER"
000000000000000
After school, Elsa decided to head over to Jack's house to drop off some homework for him. She had told herself over and over again how she was just gonna drop off the papers and leave, that plan pretty much went out the window when Jack's sister Tabitha opened the door.
"Can I help you?" The girl questioned.
"Y-yeah my names Elsa I just came by to drop these off..." She fished inside her bag and took out a stack full of papers though Elsa doubted that he'd EVER do them, she could care less she just wanted to get this over and done with so she could go home.
Tabitha snatched the papers out of her hands and looked them over before giving Elsa a huge grin "So, are you my brother's girlfriend?" she asked teasingly, Elsa could only blush in embarrassment "N-No. Why do you ask?"
Tabitha who was now leaning against the door frame giggled in amusement "Just wondering" She cocked her head to the side and squinted her beady little brown eyes as if she was concentrating.
"Wh-What's wrong?" Elsa felt the need to ask, Tabitha only smiled as Elsa began fidgeting nervously. Moving away from the door Tabitha circled her once and looked her up and down causing Elsa to flush from embarrassment "Now what are you doing?"
"Just observing," She said matter-a-factly "I honestly don't see it though."
Elsa blinked in confusion "See what?"
"Well see, my brother said that you were as cold as a vampire but you don't look like one to me. There's only one way to prove that your one. Show me your neck!" She suddenly blurted, Elsa took a few steps back in unison "W-What? No- I..."
"C'mon let me see!"
"Tabitha!"
She flinched at the sound of Jack's voice and hid behind Elsa like a fearful child, Elsa tensed as Jack came storming out from the other room "What the hell are you doing out here?" He questioned, "I told you a million times to ask me before you answer the fuckin door!"
"Now Hold up" Elsa tried to interrupt "You have no right to talk to your sister that way! She's just a kid..."
Elsa regretted shouting almost immediately when he turned his glare on her "A kid or not, she should know fuckin better by now..." Elsa was about to tell him to lay off his sister but she suddenly grew worried when he nearly lost his footing and had to hold onto the door frame to keep from falling.
"Are you ok..."
He didn't object when she lifted a hand and felt his forehead, "Oh my god." She pulled her hand back "Your burning up. You need to get back into bed." she demanded "Right now!"
the authority in her voice angered Jack "What are you, my nursemaid? I don't need you telling me what to do..." He let go of the doorframe for a minute but suddenly started feeling dizzy again, Elsa caught him before he nearly fell over. though Jack was heavier than he looked Elsa somehow managed to stay on her feet which for the most part surprised even her.
"You're in no condition to be arguing, now c'mon get back into bed." Her tone had softened slightly and Jack having used what was left of his energy finally relented.
Tabitha followed behind them as Elsa led him back into his room, as soon as she'd gotten him settled Tabitha thought that Elsa would leave which is why it surprised her when instead of heading for the door she turned to her "Listen I need you to get me a warm rag for his forehead ok?"
"Oh. Ok."
For the next few minutes, Tabitha ran back and forth getting everything that Elsa needed to take care of her big brother who was just about the worst patient in the world, anytime Elsa would try to care for him he'd slap her hand away demanding she leave she never did though, the fun really began when Elsa prepared some chicken soup for him which she expected him to eat without a fuss, boy was she wrong.
"Get that shit away from me" He cursed "I don't fuckin need it and I DONT need you now bug off" Elsa refused to let him see how much that hurt "Oh for Odin's sake stop acting like such a baby" She chastened "Just eat. Damn it!"
She lifted the spoon but like a child, he smacked it away "Are you fuckin deaf? I said..."
Without warning, Elsa stood up both fists clenched and her eyes seething with anger "How long do you intend on acting like a moron?" She huffed.
"Excuse me I'm not a moron!" He countered.
"Yes, You are! what else do you call someone who thinks they can just ride the flu out without treatment? Your not immortal you know, you could die if you let this cold get out of hand you can barely walk as it is and now you..."
She closed her eyes for a minute before finally throwing her hands up in the air "You know what, I don't know why I even bother. You want me gone? Fine, I'm leaving..."
She whirled around and left the room, brushing past Tabitha who was coming down the hallway with some blankets. "Hey, where you going?" She asked softly, though Elsa was too angry to listen. Without thinking, Tabitha ran after her "Elsa wait!"
"That stupid jerk who does he think he is?" Elsa thought bitterly "I was only trying to help, Ugh I'm so stupid why'd I even bother coming here in the first place someone else could have brought his stupid homework..."
She was momentarily snapped from her thoughts by a thudding noise, she fought with herself "don't turn around" She kept thinking "Don't. Turn. Around..." Sighing in defeat she whirled around, surprised when instead of seeing Jack she saw Tabitha sprawled on the floor. As she sat up she kept her head down to hide how embarrassed she was.
"Oh Gosh, Tabitha are you ok?"
Getting to her knees Elsa looked her over sighing in relief when Tabitha gave a meek smile and a thumbs up "Couldn't be better" She giggled, Elsa got to her feet and held out a hand lifting Tabitha up with ease.
"Listen don't go," Tabitha said "Please. I know my brother can be pigheaded sometimes but whether he admits it or not he needs someone to look after him. Mamma and Pappa are never home and he won't let me take care of him no matter how hard I try. Your the only other person he tolerates. Please."
The last word came out in a whisper, though Elsa wanted to refuse she knew it would be wrong to leave and let his cold get worse. "Alright," She said finally relenting "I'll Help"
"Yay, thank you!" Though In Elsa's head she kept thinking "What the hell am I getting myself into"
