Holding the phone with her shoulder Kate pushed the clothes into her bag
"I understand that Kate, but I can't find out anymore than you can" Maxine replied
"Max.. it's Mike" she shifted to hold the phone
"I'm sorry Kate, there's nothing I can do"
"I understand Ma'am…" she sighed moving her bag aside to sit down
"I'm sorry, look I need to go but come see me when you arrive in Cairns"
"Yes Ma'am"
"He will be okay, he's Mighty Mike Flynn remember"
"Yeah" Kate laughed softly
"Fair winds Kate" she replied when the line went dead,
running her hands through her hair Kate looked across to her bedside table where a photo of her and Mike took possession
"Kate?" he knocked entering her apartment
"Hey what are you doing here?" she moved off the bed when he stopped in the doorway
"I saw you rush from your office just wanted to make sure everything was okay?"
"It's…"
"Are you going somewhere?" he noticed her bag on the bed
"I've got a flight to Cairns in an hour"
"You're going to work things out with Mike?"
"There's been an accident, he's.. he's in hospital" she zipped her bag up
"I'm sorry…"
"You know… the last words I ever said to him was that I hated him, and he could…" she teared up
"No.." he moved into the room pulling her into a hug "Mike knows you love him"
"Yeah.." she patted his chest and pulled back
"Sorry, I didn't mean to overstep"
"No it's okay I just really need to get to the airport"
"Can I give you a lift?" he reached forward picking up her bag
"Are you sure?"
"Absolutely, airport parking is just ridiculous let me drop you off" he moved back to the door
watching her with a sad smile when she picked up the photo of her and Mike placing it in her handbag before moving towards him
"Good to go?" he smiled down at her
"Yeah" she shifted past him collecting her keys off the small table near the door.
"Thanks for the lift.." she pulled her seatbelt off 20min later when they pulled up at the drop off point
"Don't mention it"
"Look.. about the other week…"
"You love Mike, he's your one" he smiled sadly
"I'm sorry.. and I shouldn't have kissed you back, but I was just so confused"
"You really don't need to explain, I knew you were in a relationship and I took advantage from you so as much as I dislike it, friends?" he reached a hand across
"Friends" she interlocked her hand with his shaking it
"Now enough of this or your going to miss your flight" he let her hand go and reached onto the backseat grabbing her bag
"Thank you" she grabbed it off him
"I hope it works out for you Kate"
"Here's hoping" she smiled softly opening the car door and moving out of the car.
Five hours later Kate knocked softly on her office door, smiling softly when Maxine motioned for her to come in she entered closing the door behind her
"Yes thank you for that" she answered hanging up the phone "Kate" she smiled arising to stand
"Ma'am" she nodded in confusion when Maxine gave her a hug
"How are you?"
"Ah I'm fine Ma'am" she patted her back
"Good, good to hear it" she cleared her throat moving back
"Um.."
"Sorry, I didn't mean to overstep just figured you could use a hug" she shrugged
"Right… has there been any news?" she changed the subject
"I just heard from the Hammersley's Swain, he's at the hospital now apparently Mike was helping a young child when some rubble fell and buried them both"
"What?" her eyes widened
"With the help of the locals they were able to get them out but it appears Mike took the brunt of the rubble he has a fractured arm, dislocated shoulder and a severe concussion"
"And the surgery?"
"They found a bleed on his brain…"
"A bleed…" she fell back into the chair
"Kate?" Maxine rushed to her side
"I'm.."
"Here" she reached back grabbing the unopened water bottle of her desk "take small sips" she undid the lid slowly lifted it to Kate's lips
"I'm okay…" she took a sip pushing the bottle away
"Your pale when was the last time you ate or drank something?" she moved back leaning against her desk
"I don't know I had a bite of some roll at lunch…"
"Kate you need to look after yourself"
"I need to see Mike" she went to stand falling back
"Woah!" Maxine quickly shifted forward helping ease her back into the chair
"I'm…"
"If you say okay one more time"
"I just need to see Mike"
"No what you need is to eat and drink"
"But.."
"And then I will take you to see Mike" she persisted
"Ma'am I…"
"Don't argue with me Kate, Mike needs you a hundred percent healthy"
"I'm fine, honestly"
"And I'd believe that if you didn't look like you were about to puke"
"I…"
"You're about to puke aren't you?" she quickly shifted grabbing the bin, Kate emptied the contents of her stomach
"I'm sorry…" she held her head over the bin
"Okay… You're not going anywhere until the NAVCOM doctor checks you over" Maxine moved back around her desk picking up the phone
"That really isn't.."
"Yeah like I'd believe anything you say right now" she turned her back while Kate heaved into the bin.

Sighing to herself Kate ran her hand through her hair, removing it quickly when she spotted some of the crew in the waiting area
"Swain?" she moved towards them
"Kate, it's good to see you" he pulled her into a hug
"Any new updates?" she rested her hand on the back of his neck hugging him
"No…" he pulled back
"Dutchy" she smiled softly when he moved in for the next hug
"How are ya?" he kissed her forehead
"Yeah…" she patted his back not answering his question
"I'll go get us some coffee's, Kate?" Swain motioned when she sat down
"None for me thanks" she shook her head
"Dutch?"
"Yeah thanks" he nodded siting down next to Kate
"I won't be long" he walked off,
"When'd you arrive in Cairns?" Dutchy asked when they were alone
"Two hours ago, got caught up at NAVCOM and then Commander White insisted I get checked up by a doctor"
"Oh?"
"I may or may not have thrown up a few times in her bin" she replied turning red
"Lucky Maxine, any indication as to why?"
"Dehydrated, a few other possibilities too" she rested her hand across her abdomen
"You're not Pregnant are you?" he joked when she looked across at him sadly
"Well…"
"How far along?" his eyes widened
"About a month, courtesy of that surprise visit when I came down for Nikki's birthday"
"Wasn't that only overnight?"
"A lot can happen overnight Dutchy"
"Too much information" he shook his head with a grin
"Mike and I aren't exactly on speaking terms and now this…"
"What exactly happened between you two, he was supposed to be away a week and he comes back the next day looking like shit"
"We had a fight, about a few things"
"Hammersley being one of them?" he raised an eyebrow
"Don't we always fight over Hammersley"
"Kate…"
"Family of Mike Flynn?" someone interrupted
"Yes" Kate arose quickly with Dutchy
"And you are?"
"Kate McGregor, his… his emergency contact" she changed her mind
"Right Kate, we actually spoke on the phone I'm Sophie Collins"
"Yes I remember you"
"I'm pleased to inform you the surgery went well and Mr Flynn will hopefully make a full recovery"
"That's great" Dutchy placed a hand on Kate's back
"Can we see him?"
"There currently closing up, but someone will come get you once he's been taken to a room"
"Thank you" Kate smiled holding back the tears,
pulling her into a hug Dutchy rubbed her back in comfort
"Mighty Mike Flynn hey" he whispered in her ear when Swain walked back towards them
"Yeah…" she smiled sadly.
"How is she?" Swain and Dutchy stood in the doorway of Mike's room half an hour later while Kate sat next to his bed holding his hand
"Do you have any idea what happened between the two of them?" he took a sip of his coffee
"You know the Boss he isn't one to go into detail it's always been so complicated between them"
"And it's about to get more so"
"Sorry?" he turned to look at him in confusion
"She's Pregnant Swain"
"What? How far along…"
"About a month"
"Wow…"
"I think it's as big as a shock to her as it is to us" he looked across at Kate sadly,
"I'm so sorry…" she stroked the back of his hand "This is all my fault" she lifted his hand holding it against her cheek "I'm so sorry" she repeated
trying her best to hold back the tears at knowing Swain and Dutchy were watching from the doorway and even though she wasn't their XO anymore she wasn't going to let them see her crumble.
(Just a little unexpected storyline added into here, got to say I wasn't expecting to add that bit but figured it'd make good for some more drama, hope you enjoy Xx)
