I do not own Inuyasha or any of the characters in this story.

*Across town*

Inuyasha glanced at his watch, 'Damn, it is already one o'clock in the morning,' then he rubbed a hand down his face. 'I cannot keep working myself like this.' He finished up his work just as Miroku walked in, "Hey boss, you done yet?" he walked over to my desk and sat down in a chair facing me.

"I just finished, man."

"I mean this in the best way possible, but you look like shit."

I huffed, "Yeah, dude, I am well aware."

"Well, anyway, I am sorry about yesterday. I have that witch's picture posted upfront, so she should not be able to get back in. I also let the employees know that if they help her, then they are fired."

I nodded, "Thanks, man. That bitch got me in so much trouble yesterday with Kagome."

He raised an eyebrow at me, then leaned forward, "How would Kikyo get you in trouble with your assistant?" then chuckled.

"Well, she snuck into my house when I had asked Kagome to grab me cloths, and the witch was wearing nothing but a bedsheet. I guess there were heated words, Kikyo slapped Kagome and Kagome threatened her."

"…and."

Inuyasha rolled his eyes, "We may have had a heated moment, and Kikyo walked in on it."

Miroku slapped the desk, "There it is. Dude, as your most handsome best friend, please do not fuck this up. She is a kick-ass assistant."

Inuyasha crossed his arms, "…and"

This time Miroku rolls his eyes, "I am totally into Sango, and if you fuck this up, she won't forgive me."

Inuyasha slapped the desk and pointed at him, "There is it." They both just laughed.

"Dude, I know how awesome Kagome is; you do not have to tell me twice. But I have to admit I feel different about her."

"Okay, but can you handle the fact that she looks like Kikyo?"

Inuyasha looked at him, "She may look similar to that bitch, but they could not be any more different as a person. Kikyo is a bitch, superficial, materialistic, and self-centered. While Kagome is sweet, caring, loving, and despite going through hell, she still managed to take care of her little brother. I admire them both a lot."

"Yeah, Sango told me about her past. I do not know how she did it."

"She told me she had no choice, she mourned for her parents away from Sota, but she did not want him to be separated from her and live with strangers. She said that it just had to be done and pulled through. And Sota is a great kid; I think she did an amazing job raising him."

"Still is remarkable. So, where are you staying now that death touched your apartment?"

Inuyasha laughed, "I am staying with Kagome while she finds me something."

Miroku raised his brows up and down at Inuyasha, "Dude, not like that pervert, I am staying in her guest room."

Inuyasha reached for his phone across the desk to see he missed a text from Kagome, 'Uh, I had it on mute,' he read the text about the alarm and smiled.

Miroku chuckled, "That your girl."

"She is not my girl, she is my assistant," He glared at his best friend.

Miroku got up from the chair, laughing, "Yeah, but you want her to be your girl."

"Fuck off, Miroku, don't you have a job that I am paying you to go do."

"Yeah, yeah, don't get your panties up in a bunch, I am going."

Inuyasha shook his head as Miroku left the office. He gathered his stuff and made his way to Kagome's house.

As he was making his way up the pathway to the porch, he spotted Sota, "Hey man, what are you doing up, and does your sister know?"

Sota rolled his eyes, "I could not sleep, so i came out here. And even though I know my sister probably sent you the alarm code, she did not think about the moment you open the door; the alarm would go off…and very loudly."

Inuyasha nodded to him then joined him on the porch swing, "So what's keeping you up," he paused, "I mean, you do not have to tell if you don't want to."

Sota shrugged his shoulders, "The anniversary is coming up, and no matter how much time seems to pass, it never gets easier."

Inuyasha knew what he was referring to, "Honestly, I do not know what to say or do to help you and your sister with that kind of pain. But I can tell how much you and your sister love each other. You both are so lucky to have one another. Maybe talk to her about how you are feeling."

Sota looked up, "I can't do that. If I do, it will just make her upset, and I don't want to remind her that I ruined her life at the same time she lost her parents too."

Inuyasha felt his heartbreak for them both, "Sota listen to me, I have only known you both for a few days, but anyone can tell how much you both mean to each other. Kagome would do anything for you without hesitation and regret because her love for you is so much stronger than any of that." Sota looked at him before he continued, "You both are trying to be strong for the other person, but maybe you both need each other without the walls up. Talk to your sister, I think you both need a good talk and maybe cry."

Sota laughed, "Guys don't cry."

"Whoever told you that bullshit is just a coward and cannot face his feelings. Real men cry when the times comes." Inuyasha patted him on the shoulder and turned and realized that the curtain moved in the inside. He inhaled only to smell fresh tears.

"I am going to catch some sleep, but think about what I said, okay."

Sota nodded, "Thanks, man."

Inuyasha got up to head inside the house, "Don't mention it, and hey, if you ever need to talk, just call me. Night"

Inuyasha made his way up the stairs and stopped right in front of Kagome's door, he slowly opened the door, and the smell of tears hit his nose, and the sounds of whimpering hit his ears.

"Kagome, are you okay." He paused, "Can I come in?"

She rose from the bed slowly, and he took the sight of her redden and puffy eyes, but then she nodded for him to come in.

He shut the door, made his way to the side of the bed, and sat down next to her. He gave her a moment to gather her baring.

"Inuyasha, thank you. Even those words cannot express how truly grateful I am that you gave Sota comforting. I try, but he always pulls away from me, and then we end up fighting." She sighed.

"Hey," Inuyasha reached out to grab her hand and place it in his, "No need to thank me, I like you both and only wanted to help. Plus, I cannot have my new assistant having her mind elsewhere and slacking on me." He smirked.

Kagome gasped and jokingly punched him in the arm.

Inuyasha dramatically started rubbing his arm, "Owe that hurt woman, how are you going to make it up to me?"

Kagome rolled her eyes and laughed, "Whatever you know, I did not hurt you."

Inuyasha shrugged his shoulders, "Yeah, but I got you to laugh."

Kagome softens her look at him, "Thank you again."

"It's no problem. Okay, well I am going to hit the sack, I am exhausted."

"Goodnight, Inuyasha."

"Goodnight, Kagome." And with that, he left her room and made his way to his.
