It's been eleven years since I first started writing Ghost in the Evangelion, and seven years since the last update. I've tried the occasional update or rewrite since then, but I always end up stuck. A 20-30 chapter epic crossover should probably not have been my first fanfic, and these days I struggle enough with far shorter stories. In other words, I'm not going to continue or complete GitE. If you've somehow held on hope for the last seven years, I'm sorry.

If you're curious for what I had planned, and to give myself a way to let go of ten years of pent-up planning (none of these ideas are worth anything substantial!) so I can in some way draw a line under GitE, the story would have continued in the following manner:

ISFAREL (Ninsar, Ninkurra) & SANDALPHON (Nammu)
Following canon, Asuka and Shinji would deploy against Ninsar on a tectonically active region and a failed attack would make Ninsar split into two: Ninsar and Ninkurra. This complication would be further compounded when Nammu wakes from his embryonic form and bursts from the ground in a small volcanic eruption to eat Ninkurra whole. Asuka and Shinji (and maybe Rei?) would fight Ninsar and Nammu in a three-way battle. I hadn't put any thought into character development because I'm a bad author.

MATARAEL (Uttu)
Uttu would attack the geocity in Tokyo-2, drawn there because of Nisaba's secret presence. It would be a chance to develop a love triangle between Shinji, Asuka, and Melusine.

SAHAQUIEL (Enlil)
An, one of the Annunaki alongside Enki, An (Adam), and Ninhursag (Lilith), would attack from the sky. It would rain bombs down on numerous targets, among other things devastating the US Eva programme. An initial attempt to have Shinji defeat it would result in absolutely massive damage to Unit-01. A simulation body would be fitted with a ghost-dub of Noh (one of Shinji's classmates who was actually ghost-dub of Naoko) and put atop a JAXA rocket for use as an AT Field missile. Gendo would ghost-dub himself onto an Eva brain and swap out for Yui's ghost to allow Unit-01 to defeat Enlil after the AT Field missile forced it down.

IREUL (Nisaba)
Josephine Avalon would reveal that she was actually Nisaba, a digital Angel living on the 'net. She would launch an attack on the MAGI while also orchestrating an attack on the Children's school. Melusine would attempt to kill Shinji and be stopped by Rei, in a really hackneyed reference to an episode of The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Ritsuko and Kusanagi would cooperate to defeat Nisaba's digital form, but it proves too powerful. At this point Yui would reveal that she had ghost-dubbed herself from Unit-01 into Kusanagi's brain, and puppeting Kusanagi's body she would help Ritsuko defeat Nisaba.

LELEIL (Ereshkigal)
This would largely follow the TV show's plot, but it would be Unit 02 that was absorbed, not Unit 01. Shinji would them jump in after Asuka, in an allusion to the Sumerian epic Inanna's Descent Into The Underworld. If I'd been smart, I'd have swapped the order of Leleil and Sandalphon, since the story and character beats I had for Ereshkigal fit Sandalphon to a T. However, I was too married to the canon order of the angels.

BARDIEL (Namtar) & IREUL (Nisaba)
Nisaba, who had actually hidden away after her defeat, would reveal herself by hijacking a remote-control Eva unit. Shinji, Asuka, Rei, and Toji would fight it, only for Unit 03 to end up controlled by Namtar. (Or something like that, I know I had Nisaba planned for a surprise return but I've forgotten the details.) I think I'd also planned for Toji's sister to end up ghost-dubbed into Unit 03 just to tug some heartstrings. In any case, once Namtar is controlling Unit 03 Shinji would exceed 400% synch rating and get absorbed into Unit 01 after defeating Unit 03.

Another idea I think I toyed with was that Unit 01 would end up infected by Namtar while inside Ereshkigal, and the fight would be reversed, with Unit 03 beating the crap out of Unit 01 until Yui takes over. (Who'd been put back in because the Gendo-brain was damaged in the previous fight or something?) Then she'd rip out Namtar and defeat Unit 03, before/while absorbing Shinji.

ZERUEL (Nergal)
Again following closely to the plot of the TV series, Nergal would attack the geofront with devastating force. However, this would be while Shinji is still trapped inside Unit 01, so Asuka is the one who saves the day by exceeding 400% synch rating and beating Nergal to death with Unit 02's own severed arm. Also Kusanagi finally figures out how to get rid of Yui's ghost-dub, somehow. I think I was planning to have her let herself get killed and ghost-dub herself into another body, like the Puppetmaster does in the 1995 film.

JGSDF Attacks!
The big twist I'm probably most proud of would be that I'd move the JSSDF invasion of the geofront much, much earlier. With both Shinji and Asuka taken out, Section 9 (hey they're relevant!) spearhead the invasion of the geofront. However, things don't go as planned and NERV ends up able to hold off the JGSDF, turning the assault into a long siege.

ARAEL (Utu, no relation whatsoever to Uttu, yes, it's confusing)
Unit 02's cyberbrain would be partially swapped (how and why I've forgotten) with a cyberbrain containing Hikari's mom, allowing Hikari to pilot Unit 02 in defense of the geofront when Utu attacks. This would draw Asuka out of Kyoko and she'd land naked in Hikari's lap and be very annoyed that someone else were piloting Unit 02. Then one of Shinji's classmates would be revealed to be an avatar of the First Ancestral Race and end up used as a weapon to defeat Utu.

ARMISAEL (Sin)
I remember very few details about what I'd planned here. I know I wanted Noh to pilot a horribly deformed spider-tank version of an Eva, and for the TV show reveal of Rei's origins to be expanded to include the reveal that Noh was like Rei, but built using Naoko's splintered ghost-dubs.

TABRIS (?)
The computer I had my notes on is currently in pieces on the floor, so I don't remember what I named him. I'd again hew ridiculously close to the TV series (how I even planned to have Kaworu arrive when the geofront is under siege I never really settled) but I'd switch things around a bit so Kaworu steals Unit 01 and Asuka goes after him in Unit 02 or something like that. Shinji would still make the killing blow, I think.

Third Impact
I never really settled on a course of events here, but the Mass Production Units would attack in an attempt to break the siege and Asuka would defeat them or something. Section 9 would change sides once it turned out that SEELE were also planning to launch Third Impact, and together Section 9 and a team Misato rounded up would attempt to save the day. I think at one point I wanted them to steal a bunch of aircraft and make an airborne assault on Area 51 with the remaining Eva units to stop SEELE from initiating Third Impact.

I don't think I planned for them to succeed, mind.

That's it. That's what I had planned and it's kind of good to spread the ideas to the wind and do something to say I'm finished with this.
