This chapter has been planned since Adrien went to the future and writing it finally feels great.
The screen began, showing an eight-year-old Melody wearing a white fencing suit."Can we go? Please, please, please?" she begged, jumping up and down, long blue hair swaying from side to side.
"Aww she's so cute," Rose exclaimed.
"Ya but isn't this why she hates fencing cause she looks pretty excited to do it." Alix pointed out.
"It is, just watch," Hugo said.
"It doesn't start for another hour," Kagami said, twisting the top to a sippy cup.
"I always wondered what you'd look like with long hair," Marinette said since the older Kagamii had shoulder-length hair.
"I hate my hair long" she mumbled to herself.
"Pleeease..." Melody begged."I'm gonna explode if we don't."
"Dramatic much," Alya laughed.
"Look who's talking," Marinette whispered just loud enough Alya heard.
"What!?"
"Nothing..."
Kagami sighed but was still smiling."Fine,"
Melody jumped in excitement again, running to grab her fencing bag but Kagami grabbed it first." Luka we're going early," she called out opening the apartment door.
"Okay, we'll meet you there," Luka replied.
Wait... Adrien thought, Could this be...? Oh no.
The two walked down to the sidewalk, climbing into a grey car. As they drove down the road, Melody's leg didn't stop twitching. In the rearview mirror Kagami smiled."Nervous?" she asked.
"No..." Melody lied at first."Yes,"
"It's okay to be nervous," Kagami assured her, eyes glued to the road.
"But you don't get nervous mommy," Melody assumed.
Kagami chuckled."Of course, I do, everyone does."
Melody frowned."What if I don't get it."
"I wouldn't worry about that Mel. I don't know a lot of eight-year-olds trying to get into an academy they can't join until ten." Looking in the rearview mirror she saw her daughter didn't look any less sad."No matter what happens. If you get first or get last, I'm proud of you."
"Aww," her friends cooed causing Kagami to bite her lip in embarrassment.
Melody grinned brightly.
"She looks so happy," Marinette said.
"Ya, how is this a sad thing?" Alya asked.
Cause she... Adrien sighed.
"Wow!" she shouted turning her head and looking out at the large building the tournament was being held."Is that it?!"
"Yup." Kagami answered, laughing at her daughter's excitement."Hey Mel, I wanted to tell you-"
The next moment flew by. There was no way to prepare for what happened. Not even time to screen. It was normal then everything went back.
"What happened?" basically everyone asked while Adrien sat there, remembering word for word, Melody's telling of what that happened that day.
"Watch," Iris sighed.
The screen lit up, taking a moment to focus before Melody who laid in a hospital bed respirator inserted in her nose and left leg in a cast.
"Wait was that the crash?" Mylene asked.
"But she said no one else was in it," Alix said.
"Daddy?" she asked in a tired and cracky voice. Luka turned up from his own hands, eyes and face dampened with tears.
"Why is he crying?" rose asked.
"His wife and daughter were in a car crash for Pete's sake," Alix said putting things straightforward as usual.
"Hi Hunny, it's okay," he said, gently stroking her cheek, trying to smile.
"Why are you crying?" she asked, noticing the hospital room."Why are we at the doctor's?"
Luka stared at her, smile wavering tears continuing to silently run down his face."It's going to be okay, you're going to be okay."
Not hearing an answer to her question, Melody's frown deepened."Daddy, why are you crying?"
"It'll be okay," he repeated, unsure of his own words.
"Daddy?" she asked, fear and confusion in her voice.
Being gentle with her Luka hugged her, rubbing her back in circular motions."I'm sorry,"
"Why is he apologizing?" Alya asked everyone but Adrien, Hugo, and Iris confused.
Not used to hearing or seeing her father cry, Melody, grew worried."Why are you sorry? What happened?"
"Everything will be okay," he said, trying to not ball his eyes out like he had been the entire two weeks she'd been in a coma.
Melody quickly thought about what happened, finding it strange her mother wasn't there."Where's mommy?" she asked.
Luka didn't respond only repeating what he'd already said."It'll be okay."
"Wait," Alya said, her and everyone else putting things together.
"Where's mommy?" Melody asked again, putting things together herself.
The screen changed to a week later showing Melody hobbling into the apartment, crutches under her arms. there was no joy on her face and he walked past her brother, cousin, and aunts. While Juleka hugged her brother Melody walked into her bedroom. Her lip quivered seeing the fencing gear on her bed and many trophies on her dresser. Though unable to move much, she threw the gear off her bed and pushed the trophies into a corner.
Tears built in the broken girl's eyes."Note," Liam said, unaware of what had happened." Blocks." he said holding up a block.
"No Liam," Melody said, nearing tears.
Not giving up, Liam persisted."Blocks!" he shouted cutely holding the block up.
"Go away!" she yelled immediately starting to ball her eyes out.
"This is..." Marinette began to say but like the rest of her peers, she was speechless.
Luka appeared at the doorway hearing Melody's shouts. He frowned picking her up and sitting down on her bed. Holding her close, Luka couldn't hold his own tears that wouldn't end."It's okay," he said, now crying himself.
"I want my mommy," she cried, pressing her face into his shirt.
"I know, I do too," he said, fighting tears for his distraught daughter's sake.
"Note?" Liam question, worried since his sister was crying."Note sa?"
Luka nodded, picking Liam up who was very confused."Yes, Melody's sad. It'll be okay Mel." he swore, voice unsure.
The screen changed to Melody, who was not crying. She stood beside the kitchen table and in her hand, held a small ring.
"That's how she got the ring," Nino said.
"Ready to go..." Luka stopped, seeing the ring.
"Mommy's ring," Melody said, frowning at the word.
Luka stared at her, able to see the spitting image of his deceased wife." You can keep it,"
Melody stared up at him wide-eyed." It doesn't fit my finger." she sighed, the ring sliding off her small finger.
"Here," Luka said, taking the ring from her finger and looping it on a grey chain. Kneeling down he latched it around her neck, running his hand through her long hair, trying to make it sit. Melody grabbed the necklace a habit she'd develop overtime."You look so much like her," he said by accident.
Melody turned towards the ground, not happy with the compliment.
The screen switched to present-day and Melody sat on her bed, a long brown box on her lap. As she inspected the box, her handheld the ring that hadn't left the grey chain in eight years. Flipping the box open, she sighed seeing all of her old fencing gear and trophies, collecting dust. She stared down at the items for a moment, holding in her hands a child-sized saber.
"What am I doing?" she asked herself.
Walking into the living room where Luka was assisting Liam with his homework, she exhaled slowly."I wanna sign up for fencing."
The room was shocked, though everyone was silent, stunned by what they had seen.
Both Luka and Liam appeared shocked."Really, I thought you couldn't," Liam said with a grin.
"Liam," Luka reprimanded standing up and walking toward his daughter."You sure?"
She nodded."Yes, it's about time I did,"
Luka smiled, hugging her." I'm proud of you Mel," he paused, "Your mom would be too."
Melody's smile faded and she sighed."I know."
The class stared dumbfounded at the screen, shocked by what they'd witnessed. Kagami was near tears seeing her own death, but also getting the answer to why Melody was the way she was.
Sorry if there were fewer comments I really wanted to focus on the future more. I don't know if I'll ever include what Kagami was saying... maybe I will. It's nothing important but sweet. Now that Melody is signing up for fencing again things are going to get really cool as some new characters will be introduced.
