Chapter 9 - Dirty Linen

Kurama shook the Erlenmeyer making a face at the unidentified crust stuck at the bottom, cursed the unfortunate man who probably forgot the glass toasting in the Bunsen burner's flame. He did not remember that the task of cleaning the laboratory glassware was so uncomfortable, in fact, he offered himself as responsible for cleaning several times, comforted by the idea of being alone and being able to develop his personal research. The sound of the soft crash of two glasses behind him reminded him of the reason for the discomfort of the situation. He felt that his soul was exchanged with Yusuke's when the term - asshole - appeared in his mind incessantly. Damn Kiyohara, he apparently had nothing interesting to do on a Monday afternoon and insisted to the teacher that cleaning would be quicker with four hands and that he would be happy to help Shuuichi. Suckass. He shrugged with his arms resting on the bench, faced the clean glassware, there was no way around the situation, he needed to turn around and continue his task, unfortunately sharing the same stand as the other. He wondered if maybe he was just in a bad mood, the previous day was a tumult. The idea was to go back to training on Sundays and holidays, the whole gang, as in the old days to feel the energy moving inside your body. He was forced out of the trance when three fingers touched his left shoulder. At first he thought it was the other man's inconvenience in the laboratory, but he convinced himself that he was lost in his mind long enough for the other to need to confirm his presence. The glasses crashed softly when he set the tray on the new workstation, continued the mechanical task trying to ignore the face that turned in his direction.

"I also don't mind wearing black clothes in the summer" the boy broke the silence by looking sporadically at Shuichi.

The fox's green eyes pointed, instinctively, at its own chest, wanting to check the buttons of the white coat perfectly closed. He forced a fake smile, but clearly disinterested. She mentally rolled her eyes as she noticed the movement of the little black ponytail wagging like a dog's tail begging for attention. At the beginning of the semester, the boy wore his black hair neatly cut close to the back of his neck, like everyone else. Suckass. At the end of the afternoon, he believed that he had exchanged souls with Hiei, since he avoided any advance of dialogue within the laboratory, offering only answers with a maximum of four words. Speaking of Hiei, during the long-awaited return home, he sought presence in the park across the street while waiting for the traffic light to open for pedestrians, having fun alone when he realized that the alternative route became his new official route, no it was strange to find the half basketball court empty, in fact the whole street was empty, typical of a late afternoon in a terribly hot Japanese summer. He grunted as he left the train station, or rather, as he left the comforting icy embrace of the train station's air conditioning. He preferred to climb the fire escape instead of using the recently repaired elevator, the mechanical box looked like a microwave that goes up and down instead of turning. He heard familiar voices from inside the apartment as he worked on the lock. Shizuru was complaining about Yusuke's carelessness while he waited for the news, standing in the room with an unlit cigarette dangling in his mouth. Kurama did not have to announce his arrival to receive from the ex-detective a strange sound that would be the fusion of a grunt with a greeting. They watched Shizuru descend from the bench he used as a ladder

"You don't need a maintenance technician, you need a monk and an exorcism" Kuwabara's sister put her hands on her hips while chewing on her own unlit cigarette, stared at Kurama for a few seconds. "I also regret have long hair at this time of year" The fox realized that the comment was for him after seeing his own reflection in the glass of the balcony door. She tied her hair up before entering the laboratory - safety rules - and forgot to release the rubber band "That's it, at least I managed to fix your television", gestured to the badly connected socket "and the shower" Kurama did not wait for the last comment. The air conditioner had been broken for almost a month, the washer and dryer had been broken a few weeks ago, it is not for nothing that the boys started wearing clothes that they would not normally wear, and the television was in trouble the night before, but the shower was perfect when he left the house in the morning.

Yusuke waved the cigarette in his fingers, impatient. He noticed the confusion on the fox's face, but the answer to the unasked question he would give later, along with why the kitchen window glass broke - even more - and the sudden increase in rent to cover the costs of the new elevator, the day was not easy, but when Shizuru appeared after lunch time Yusuke saw a breath of salvation in her, begged the girl to look at the problems of the house, knowing her helpful history. A smile painted his lips as he thought of the girl as the older sister of the entire gang, his comforting expression was abandoned when he noticed Shizuru's scolding look, he grimaced again, but registered every word of the speech.

"I was serious about the exorcism" Shizuru squinted at the two boys' snickers, of course they were going to laugh at the suggestion, considering that they are the demons that frequent the space. She knows the pride and ego of the four residents very well and the entire block is not enough space to accommodate them. But she was concerned about the constant clash of evil energies, even if their owners do not compete for territory with each other, the energies do. For her it was almost visible the masses of energy colliding in space, and with each encounter they generate more energy, they light up like a beacon and the sequential waves spread, disturbing other energies. He thought that probably the neighboring humans are affected by the evil energy in some way, perhaps they can become more impatient, more tired and more prone to fights. She knew, very well, how much it would hurt in them when they found out, they would feel guilty about anything that happened and would probably make them give up maintaining society, which would also generate discomfort, especially for Kazuma. I hadn't seen him happy like that in a long time, even though he had failed the last two college entrance exams, he was radiant, his spiritual energy has never been so colorful and brilliant. Shizuka decided to reflect on the consequence of saying what he knows for a while longer, decided to let the boys have some more fun with the house game, since deep down, he knows it won't last long. His hard look made them both swallow grace. Yusuke realized that Kurama also swallows his laughter, like a child scolding him, at that moment he disguised the arching of one side of his mouth, apparently the fox also saw Shizuru as a figure of fraternal superiority "Stop being ashamed and talk to the Keiko's father, Yusuke. He must know someone to fix the air conditioner "She spoke again while gathering his belongings and shamelessly stealing a lighter. Pretended not to hear the other's lament, about the problem being talking to his father-in-law, or finding a technician and yes have money to pay. Saw Kurama's movement to accompany her to the door, to thank her for her visit, for her help and to apologize, several times, for anything "No problem, I am indebted to you, especially with you for helping. my little brother studying "Shizuru used the index finger to fix the number on the door, raised an eyebrow with the number doing the reverse movement after she removed her hands" Anyway, I came to deliver some things to Kazuma, it didn't cost anything to help . Yusuke looked desperate "she stared at the fox before pressing the button to call the elevator, felt the energy flow turning like a pinwheel in a heart chakra storm, maybe it was time to tell "Kurama" she hissed upon receiving the attentive look, changed her mind, wore a little expressive smile "You looked very good in black" she looked through the doorway looking for Yusuke who gave her attention "But I can't say the same thing about the silly man with pineapple back there" the girl's laughter faded as the elevator moved and the fox's head throbbed as the ex-detective shouted the reason for wearing an exaggerated pineapple printed shirt.

"Kurama" shouted at the other at the door, pointing a finger as if it were a robbery "Take off your shirt"

A few days later, it was decided that someone should do the dirty work. Kuwabara dumped the carcass, which he calls the body, on the wooden bench amid the sea of washers and dryers. He mumbled about his victory against the vending machine, it took 2 kicks to give in. He offered the can of iced coffee to the redhead at his side, politely declined. The two seemed to sigh in unison as they followed the repetitive circular movement of the fabrics inside the appliances. Kuwabara threw the can in the basket a few meters away, in an attempt to get rid of boredom, he did not complain about having to get up to collect the object that fell well away from the basket. On his way back to the bank, he took the small toothpick that hindered him from sitting, as well as being the cause of bad luck, since they took out on the stick who would be sacrificed to wash clothes in the neighborhood laundry. He stared at the other redhead at his side, legs crossed and one hand holding his chin while resting on his knee, despite the height, he occupied a small space. Kazuma wrinkled his nose at his own posture, sitting with his legs open almost taking two seats on the bench. He tidied up the mess he was seeing some girls looking his way

"Thank you for helping me with this on your day off" Kuwabara chewed on the stick of luck while receiving the gentle greeting of the other "I think having lost was the best for the integrity of our clothes" began to receive the fox's full attention.

"In a way, yes" raised his face to check the appliance timer "Yusuke is not very patient, he would mix the pieces and we would all end up wearing pink or three smaller numbers, and Hiei, well, I don't know why he was placed in draw "At the sound of the whistle, the two got up to transfer the content from one device to another. The tallest one took a blue shirt from the pile of clean pieces, and more than immediately replaced his current one. As he passed his head through the hole in his shirt he noticed censored green eyes

"What's it? I've been wearing the same shirt for three days "he pouted" Speaking of outfit, this ridiculous shirt isn't from Urameshi? " he pointed to the overly flowered shirt that Kurama wore, remembered how stupid Yusuke looked when wearing this type of print.

"This?" he laughed as he pulled the collar "On Monday, Yusuke begged me to change my shirt with him. Since the few clean ones I had left were black, and his, well ... "he lost his mind for a second when he heard the entrance bell of the establishment.

"He looks like a pervert wearing that, you just look ..." he measured words "eccentric" scratched his nose looking around in fear of the reaction.

"Well, it looks better on me anyway" Kurama smiled in his traditional narcissism as he pressed the power button. Kuwabara was going to make some comment, but bit his lip when he was startled by a shiver that chased his spine from end to end, collapsed sitting on the bench under the curious gaze of the fox. "I don't really like wearing black" whispered. When Kazuma remembered what he was going to comment on, he was interrupted.

"Minamino! What a coincidence!" the deep voice, little muffled by the continuous sound of the machines, interrupted. A boy of Kurama's height approached.

Kazuma watched the fox standing, no matter how much the fringe hid his green eyes, he noticed his friend's face close like a foggy day, while the other one looked radiant as the damn sun. He noticed Kurama running away from all attempts at prolonged dialogue, continued his task with the clothes while the other one chattered just over a meter away. Suddenly kuwabara realized that he was not introduced. For a second he thought about introducing himself, but he thought it was inappropriate, the discomfort in the room seemed to transcend the glass windows. He decided to examine the figure: oily, slender black hair, small glasses. The word nerd swirled in his mind like a punctured balloon. A light went on in his head, this must be the sucker that Kurama has been complaining about since he entered Toudai. He didn't remember the asshole being a common topic in the fox's speech, but he thought it was because the figure seemed very familiar to him. He chuckled as he took the last piece of clothing from the dryer and tossed it in the basket. He noticed Kurama rushing through both tasks and leaving, the other boy seemed to accept the fox's indifferent and very formal farewell, Kazuma lived with the other redhead long enough to know that being extremely formal was his way of keeping inconvenient people far away. Kuwabara looked over his shoulder when he heard the nerd's interjection.

"Shuichi"

There was no need to look at Kurama to know that he was bothered by the use of his first human name, he never gave Kiyohara freedom, it should be - Minamino. Kiyohara extended his hand towards the redhead's arm, Kurava, instinctively dodged the touch and turned to face the speaker.

"I think you knocked it over" The boy didn't seem offended, he smiled indicating a set of keys in his left hand. Kurama replied in the negative, those keys were not his.

On the short drive home, none of the redheads touched on the subject, went on in a tired march in the afternoon sun, arrived at the apartment door tired with the weight of clean clothes, but both eyes became serious when they noticed a strange movement of energy inside. The open door revealed a comfortable cool breeze in addition to Yusuke and Hiei taking turns on a youkai that became a punching bag.

Yusuke received them with a harsh interjection, he was busy, in fact he kept busy all afternoon "Shizuru was right" punched the creature in the face again "We need an exorcism" passed his turn "This guy came to buy trouble for free" o youkai staggered to the lower brunette's side, Hiei grunted receiving the punching bag. There was no room for any of the newcomers to speak.

"You need to stop letting your guard down, I'm tired of kicking guys' asses like that" Hiei gave another blow for fun, he needed to pass the time until the garbage man came to take out the garbage. The two redheads limited themselves to starting the task of dividing clean clothes, strange creatures in the apartment were more common than themselves. Hiei shook the youkai a little more, then measured the ex-detective from head to toe, whatever he was talking about was lost. "Isn't that a Kurama shirt?" raised an eyebrow, pausing in the gratuitous violence "You look ridiculous" Yusuke agreed with a brief nod when he saw himself being reflected in the balcony glass. Hiei grunted almost inaudibly when he received an unexpected, painful, bite on the arm. Damn bad luck.

It didn't take long for the invader to be taken by border agents and the story to be clarified. Bibougami was the kind of very low class youkai that invaded the apartment to play tricks, Yusuke discovered that the creature fed on the misery and poverty of its victims, was responsible for the last electrical problems in the apartment. The former detective reflected sadly on how much the human world fed these creatures with their economic and social inequality. I was taken out of your reflection with the two redheads celebrating the presence of a new air conditioning unit, previously unnoticed due to confusion. Yusuke put a proud smile on his face, while boasting of the extravagantly expensive piece, introduced the boys to all the functions of the new machine, but his happiness stumbled when Kurama asked the key question, where he had obtained so much money. It was difficult to wrap the fox around, Urameshi told some washed lies while avoiding the green eyes, looked at Hiei several times who just put his body out of the mess. One of the stories was interrupted by the howl of Kuwabara coming from the bathroom, then the almost dismantling of the door and the appearance of his underpants figure, his pants down and his cell phone in hand. On the screen, a social network profile full of photos with lots of skin, the tallest redhead threatened to beat Yusuke until he was permanently disfigured, Kurama saved the device from the confrontation, unpretentiously scrolled through the photo gallery of Tumbler's profile, felt a redness rise from the base of the neck to the ears. That's how the friend got money for the device, selling photos of the four boys to a supposed fan club. Rolled the feed, ignoring the exchange of tapas on the other side of the room, photos with a high suggestive content. The bastard, not satisfied with playing the perverted paparazzi, even added his own photos, posed. The fox looked at the headman rolling on the ground with Kuwabara.

"Give us a reason not to kill you here and now" Kurama nodded to Kazuma who got up and held his cell phone.

"Money left to fix the washing machine too" Yusuke offered a wry smile with a swollen lip.

"This one was really good" Hiei's voice cut any line of reasoning in the room. He used a finger to select a photo with his cell phone still in Kazuma's hand. The image showed Kurama absentmindedly taking off a black shirt, revealing the skin on the back and the left shoulder and arm.

"Kurama, I think you better take a look at this" Kazuma frowned after a start. The fox offered a threatening look, he didn't want to see anything, he was always quite reclusive about his clothes, or the lack of them. The other three wouldn't mind strolling shirtless for an entire stadium, but he wasn't like that. The owner of the cell phone noticed Kurama not moving a muscle, so he turned the phone's screen to his face. "I didn't know you had a tattoo" the statement made the other three fight over the possession of the device in curiosity. Yusuke sparkled at the thought of Mom's perfect boy being rebellious in his human life enough to have a tattoo. While Kurama and Hiei worked with the same information: Kurama did not have any tattoos. The three looked at the photo disappointed, there was no tattoo on the photo. When questioned about her absence, Kuwabara began to lose patience, the drawing was there, he could clearly see the abstract icon on the skin of the fox's shoulder, and would punch Yusuke in the face if he were called a liar again. Instinctively the fox pulled the collar of his shirt up to his shoulder, waited for the three boys to check, apparently there was nothing. Just Kuwabara saw clear like as skin pores through a 4k camera lens.

While Kuwabara looked for pencils and paper to reproduce the drawing, Yusuke thanked the gods for the strange occurrence that had taken his attention away from his almost dirty enterprise.

F/N - I leave here my tribute to the anime, which provided us with a wonderful fanservice when Yusuke shouts "Take off your clothes" at Kurama during the fight with Roto.
