Author's Note:
Hey, everyone! How are you all doing? I hope you are all doing well and staying safe!
Sorry for not updating in a timely manner. I wanted to get this chapter up before any other chapters I had planned to do due to it being a fluff chapter. However, I had no motivation to type due to not knowing how to continue this one particular chapter and I haven't had time to actually think about writing. I have also decided to binge watch the series, yet again, cause it's such a great show and I miss it. I'm hoping by binge watching it again then it would give me more ideas for future chapters and give me the motivation to post them in a timely manner.
This chapter was due to some people wanting me to continue with Daisy meeting Yeye so here it is. Hopefully it's ok.
I hope you all enjoy the holidays!
Enjoy!
Chapter 19: Meeting Yeye
May's eyes shot open and she groaned in annoyance as she reached over to grab her phone off the nightstand. She lifted the device and flinched when the bright light blinded her. She squinted and saw the time shining at her. 1:30am. She placed the phone, not too gently, back on the nightstand and laid back down, glaring up at the ceiling. Only thirty seconds passed before she rolled her eyes and threw the covers off her. She quickly sat up and threw her legs over the side of the bed and pushed herself up. She placed her feet into the black, soft slippers and blindly walked towards her door. Quietly opening the door, she poked her head out to see the empty halls. That shouldn't be too surprising considering it was after one in the morning. However, there was always an agent here or there that couldn't sleep.
May exited her room, shutting the door behind her before she made her way to the kitchen. She didn't pass a single person. Which was why she was slightly surprised when she saw light seeping into the hallway from the common room. Raising an eyebrow, she approached the common room and came to a halt, right outside of the doorframe, when she heard,
"No, I know. Airline tickets are so expensive these days. I don't get it."
That was Daisy.
Why the hell was she up at this hour was beyond May's knowledge. And who was she talking to?
"I mean, I'm not going to tell her. I'm just going to book a flight and be like gotta go."
May's eyebrows rose in shock. Who was she not going to tell and where the hell did she plan on going?
Deciding that she overheard plenty, May stepped into the common room and was met with Daisy's head snapping up. She watched as the girl's eyes widened in shock mixed with horror while her mouth opened and closed several times.
May just glared at her daughter in response, not knowing what exactly to say to her. She huffed in annoyance as she moved further into the common room. Stopping right beside Daisy, she heard a muffled voice from the headphones. She looked over at the laptop screen and her jaw dropped in shock at who her daughter was talking to,
"Bà?"
She questioned as she drew closer to the screen, squinting at the bright lights that surrounded her father. She saw her father's mouth open and close several times, indicating that he was speaking. May's brows furrowed together and she snatched Daisy's headphones from her ears, earning a squeak in return. She ignored it as she placed the headphones in her own ears and finally heard the words that were being said,
"Bù kěnéng shì wǒ zìjǐ de nǚ'ér dàn wǒ de sūnnǚ? Zěnme yang shi nà-" and it couldn't have been my own daughter but my granddaughter? How is that-
"Dad."
"Oh! Suǒyǐ xiànzài nǐ zài chéngrèn wǒ?" Oh! So now you are acknowledging me?"
"Dad." May repeated in a stern tone, finally silencing her father from his rant. A rant she missed a majority of…fortunately.
"Nǚ'ér," Daughter,
There were so many questions swarming through May's mind. However, she asked the very first thing she could muster "What is going on?"
Her father scoffed through the webcam and May couldn't help the glare that instantly grew on her face. She couldn't, for the life of her, understand why her father was scoffing at her when it should be her scoffing. Honestly, waking up in the middle of the night to discover her daughter talking online to her father, believing that the two did not know each other, was something else.
"Well," William started "I was having a pleasant conversation with my granddaughter before it was rudely interrupted."
"Granddaughter?"
"Ah. Yes. Your mother called me some time ago to inform me that she finally met her granddaughter. Our granddaughter. Enlighten me, dear. Why have you not introduced me to Daisy formally?"
May took a deep breath as she tried to keep her cool. There were so many things she wanted to say and so many questions she wanted answers to. Was she confused as to how her father and girl she considered a daughter started talking? Most definitely. Was she angry that neither of them informed her that they were talking to each other? Oh one hundred percent. Was she hurt that they didn't tell her? Yes, but she wasn't going to admit to that one.
"Why was it your mother that informed me about our granddaughter? Your mother, who I haven't talked to in years-"
"I was going to tell you." She casted a glare at the inhuman beside her, who shrunk back in fear "I was waiting for the perfect opportunity but I guess that doesn't matter anymore."
"Pft." William rolled his eyes as he leaned back in his chair, waving his daughter off through the camera "What were you waiting for? You told your mother months ago but not me. I see how it is."
This time it was May who rolled her eyes and she shook her head in exasperation "You know how mother is."
"Oh yes. I was married to her for some time."
May gave a single curt nod and watched as her father ran a hand over his face. That was something he did often in a stressed situation. She sighed as she tried to place herself in his shoes. If she discovered from her ex-husband that her child had a child but never told them, she would be upset and try to discover why her child never told her about that child. She couldn't blame her father for searching for answers about Daisy. Plus, she had to give her father credit; talking to her mother wasn't an easy task. Especially for William.
"Do not be mad at Daisy, Mellie." William said after a moment of silence. Once May looked directly into his eyes, he said softly "It was I who found her and made contact with her."
May's eye brows scrunched together in confusion at that statement. She cocked her head to the side as she just stared at her father.
Her father must have understood her confusion and he elaborated "After your mother told me about Daisy Johnson, I did some of my own research. I saw plenty of articles and videos about Quake, which I realized was the same person but nothing truly about her. So I tried to find her on some sort of social media. Well, I'm no computer person but I finally found her under a different name. I sent her a request, I think that's what it's called, and we began talking on there. We have been talking for some time. Do not worry."
May shook her head at that "So, let me get this straight. You found Daisy online?"
William innocently nodded his head "Why yes. Yes, I did. All by myself, I might add!"
"So, an older man, who was a complete stranger to Daisy, just started talking to her and she responded?" May questioned in disbelief.
"Um…yes?" William admitted after a moment of silence.
Out of the corner of her eye, she saw Daisy slowly getting up to try and sneak away. She rolled her eyes while she reached out with her left arm and snatched Daisy's right arm, her hand gripping the girl's bicep tightly and pulled her back. She ignored her girl's yelp of surprise as she kept a grip on her.
"Don't blame the girl, Mellie. I initiated it."
May glared over at Daisy, who tried to pull away but instantly stopped when May tightened her grip even more, and growled through her teeth "Her and I will be having a discussion about that later."
William must have understood how his daughter was feeling because his face softened as he spoke softly "Melinda, I apologize for going behind your back by talking to your daughter online but I needed to know. Actually, since you're bound to find out soon; Daisy and I have arranged for you two to come and visit me."
May's eyes widened in surprise at that announcement.
"Well, it's getting late here. I'm sure it's early for you two so I'm calling it a night. I will see you two soon!"
"When is soon?" May tried to ask her father but the man pretended that he didn't hear her because he responded by waving and saying,
"See you soon! I love you! Bye!"
Their connection ended and soon the laptop just showed Daisy's background, indicating that their call was no more. May stared at the screen in disbelief. How dare her father just hang up on her, especially when their conversation was far from over! She felt a slight tug and turned her head to see Daisy still trying to sneak away. However, her daughter must have gotten the hint of how annoyed she truly felt because she instantly stopped and faked a yawn.
"Wow. Would you look at the time?" She faked a yawn once more before rubbing the back of her neck with her free hand "It's pretty late. Guess I should head off to bed."
May moved to stand right in front of the girl and glared at her. Despite their height difference, she still had the ability to make the girl shrink in fear.
Daisy chuckled nervously "You're not gonna make me do Tai Chi right now, are you?" When May tightened her grip once more, Daisy instantly stopped and whined "May,"
"How long?" Was the only thing May could growl through her teeth at the moment.
"I don't know. Maybe a few months now?"
"A total stranger messaged you and you actually responded?"
"In my defense, he said that he knew you!" That answer wasn't the right one because one look at the older woman had the girl regretting that wording "It wasn't just that! It was-he said-he didn't just say I'm Melinda May's father we should talk! It was like he mentioned Shield and we just happened to talk then he mentioned that his daughter worked for Shield and yeah. It's not that deep, May!"
May moved even closer to her daughter and spoke through gritted teeth "Not that deep? Daisy Johnson, I swear to God-"
"Hey! Are you forgetting that I was a computer hacker? I can tell when someone is faking it over the internet." Daisy tried to defend herself.
May wagged a finger in the girl's face "Do. Not. Interrupt me." She took a second to compose herself before she finally released the girl's bicep and took a step back to cross her arms. "What were you two planning?"
Daisy rubbed her arm, the same spot that May held onto for several minutes, and she cautiously asked "What do you mean?"
"When I overheard you talking, you said you were booking a flight. Then before my father hung up, he said he would see us soon."
"Oh that? That's just a really weird coincidence. I mean-" A growl from the older woman instantly shut the inhuman up and she rubbed the back of her neck one more time as she softly admitted "Your father and I planned for you and I to take a trip down to him. A surprise, really, for you. I mean, it's so we could meet in person like how your mother and I did but it's a way so you and him can see each other again. He said it's been years since you two have been in the same room."
"When were you planning this trip?" May demanded. When the girl opened her mouth to answer, May added in "Don't even try to lie or I swear to God, you'll regret it!"
"I wasn't! Geez…ok. Don't get mad-"
"Daisy-"
"We planned it for tomorrow…literally as soon as possible. Ironic timing, right?" Daisy awkwardly laugh before she fell silent. She took a deep breath and softly spoke "I'm sorry, May. I just wanted to surprise you in a good way. I wanted you to reconnect with your father."
May held up a hand to silence the girl and closed her eyes for several seconds. She mentally counted to ten. She understood that the girl was just trying to do something good but she was too confused and angry at the moment to do anything. She needed to calm down before she snapped at her daughter and said something she would regret.
Instead, she simply raised her hand and softly said "Go to bed."
Daisy's jaw dropped in shock at that statement. She clearly wasn't expecting that response. She cleared her throat and asked "What?"
"Go to bed. We will finish this discussion later."
"But, May-"
"Daisy," May sighed as she shook her head tiredly. She was tired from being up early but also of just finding out that her girl and father had made plans behind her back "it's late. We will discuss this later. Trust me. Now, though, we need sleep. We need to wake up early tomorrow…apparently."
Daisy raised her eyebrow in suspicion "We're still going?"
"Unfortunately."
"Really?"
"If I cancel this trip, I will never hear the end of it." May said.
"Your father would hold it against you?" Daisy questioned.
"And you."
Daisy rubbed the back of her neck and gave her mother an awkward grin. However, the grin faded away when she saw the annoyed look on the older woman's face. She took a deep breath and lowered her head "May, I'm sorry. I didn't mean any harm. I just-"
"Daisy," May cut off the girl's apology with a glare "I don't want to hear it right now. Let's go."
With that, she spun on her heels and walked out of the room. She didn't need to turn around to make sure the girl was following her because she heard her running right after her. After several long moments of awkward silence, the duo arrived in front of Daisy's room. Fortunately, the girl went straight into her room without another word. Once the door was closed, May made her way to her own bedroom and locked herself in before sitting on the edge of the bed.
She had not been expecting this in the slightest.
Unfortunately, it was happening. And it was happening now.
She groaned and covered her face with her hands as she fell backwards on the bed. She remained like that the rest of the night. Not moving, not even an inch. Her thoughts on how her father and Daisy met without telling her then planning a meeting together. It was strange yet not exactly surprising; her father was one to get involved in things he shouldn't be while Daisy was too curious for her own good.
Did she plan on having her father and Daisy meet one day? Of course. She had Daisy meet her mother already and that, surprisingly, turned out much better than she imagined. She knew her father and Daisy would get along. There were so many similarities between the two.
So why did she never have them meet?
Timing.
They hadn't had the time to leave Shield for a few days to visit the older man. It was always one thing after another. Plus, she couldn't risk anyone discovering her father and potentially harming him. He was older and wasn't involved with Shield or the CIA, like her mother. He was just an average man.
She grumbled in annoyance as she realized that there was no way out of this. She was going to be bringing her daughter to meet her father for the first time in just a few short hours.
And it was going to drive her crazy.
"This is where he lives?"
Daisy's question snapped her out of her daze and she blinked several times against the blinding sun as she looked out the window. They were in the car that her father called for, driving through the neighborhood of Sun City, Arizona. It wasn't too far from the airport but May's mind was too occupied to pay close attention to the outside world. The agent took note of how all the houses looked similar and how their driver was beginning to slow down. Soon, the car pulled up alone one particular home before stopping. Their driver unbuckled and opened his door before walking towards the back and opening May's door.
"Here we are, ma'am." The driver announced politely with a smile on his face.
May growled as she hastily got out of the car and glared at the house in front of her.
She didn't want to be here.
"Thank you!"
Daisy's voice caused her to turn her head to see the driver helping the girl out before hurrying to take out their luggage from the trunk. She noticed how the girl tipped the guy before grabbing the suitcases and hurrying beside her mentor. She flashed her mentor a small smile before it disappeared as she looked at the single story home.
May shook her head as she walked up the driveway and up to the door. She took a deep breath and raised her fist to the wooden door. However, she didn't even have a chance to knock before the door swung open to reveal her father.
"Mellie!" William exclaimed with a smile on his face as he stepped forward and hugged his daughter "It's so good to see you!" He suddenly pulled away with a frown on his face "About time, wouldn't you say."
May rolled her eyes in annoyance, she was expecting that "Dad…"
William shook his head "No. Do not give me any excuses." He then looked behind his daughter to see Daisy slowly approaching "There she is!"
May took a step back to allow the girl more space. She noticed how the girl gave them a smile and held a hand out to the man.
"Hi. I'm Daisy. It's nice to properly meet you."
William smiled at the girl and captured her hand with his, shaking it firmly "It's nice to finally meet you in person, Daisy. What took so long, huh?"
May looked up at the sky and groaned "Dad,"
William waved her off "Pft. Do not start, Mellie." He stepped back into his home and gestured for the girls to follow "Come in! Come in!"
Daisy looked over at May for permission, who simply shook her head and placed a delicate hand on the girl's back to guide her into the house. Once everyone was inside, May closed the door behind her and guided the girl to the living room, where William had wandered into.
William sat down in an armchair across from the couch. May and Daisy sat on the couch, May being closer to her father. They all sat in silence for several minutes. The only sound in the room was a ticking sound coming from the grandfather clock in the corner of the living room. William just casually sat on his chair, with his arms resting on the arms of the chair, while the two women sat stiffly on the couch.
"Lunch will be done in a few minutes." The older man announced suddenly, breaking the silence. When both women simply nodded, he sighed "That way this gives Melinda plenty of time to yell at us."
May cocked her head to the side "Why would I yell at you?"
William gave his daughter a look "Oh please. Mellie, ever since you found out that Daisy and I have been in contact, you have been pissed. Isn't that right, Daisy?"
May turned her head to see the younger girl visibly gulp hard as she tried to look anywhere besides the two. Well that wasn't a convincing answer.
"I'm not pissed." May sighed as she rose from the couch and stood in front of her father and daughter. She crossed her arms as she stared down at both of them "I just don't understand why neither of you informed me that you guys have met."
"Cause you would have been mad." William merely said with a shrug.
"And why the hell would you think that?" May questioned, a frown forming on her face.
"Because you never introduced us before."
"There's a reasoning for that." May ran a hand over her face as she stared at her father "Ba, we have talked about Daisy before. I told you stories about her and updated you whenever something had occurred. Just like I did with mother. For the longest time, I only told mother about Daisy. They have never met either until the time was right."
"And the time was right earlier for her?" William questioned in incredulity.
"Yes. Mother was in the CIA. She had training if anything, God forbid, were to happen or anyone found out her location. She was prepared for the worst case scenario."
"And what? Just because I was never involved with Shield or the CIA, you think I'm incompetent and can't defend myself?" William demanded. Now he was the one glaring at his daughter.
May placed her hands together and took a deep breath, willing herself to remain calm. She understood why her father was getting defensive, she truly did. If she was in his position, she would be defensive as well.
"I never intended to hurt you, dad. I just couldn't take the risk of anyone finding out about you or where you lived. I still remember years ago when you were in that accident and how it was Ward who caused it. I couldn't take that risk again. I didn't want to be responsible for that. Not again."
"Melinda," William shook his head as he slowly rose from his spot and took a few steps to stand in front of his daughter "I never blamed you for my accident. Never." He placed his hands on her shoulders "I may be an old man who has no experience with Shield or the CIA or any other secret organization but the years I was married to your mother, I have learned a thing or two about defense. As well as my time in the war, I'm not so weak."
"I never said you were weak-"
"No. You never said that. Though I can tell it's a concern." He smiled at her "Mellie, I am older. Yes. And I have some health problems like my hip, for example. However, that doesn't mean anything. If anyone were to discover that we had been talking or they discovered my location, I would be fine. You hear?"
May didn't say anything. She turned her head to the side and stared at the floor as she processed what he told her.
William removed his hands from her shoulders and turned to look at the young inhuman, who was still sitting stiffly on the couch. She was barely moving, barely breathing, almost as if she was trying to be invisible. He smirked at her, trying to show her that everything was ok.
"I understand another reason why Melinda here is mad." At this, May turned her head a bit to stare at her father, who shrugs "And that's due to me reaching out to you, Daisy."
Daisy gulped hard as she wrung her hands together awkwardly "I'm sorry. I-I didn't mean anything wrong. I-"
William held up his hand and instantly the inhuman snapped her mouth shut "You did nothing wrong, Sunnu. I was the one who found you over the internet and reached out. I should have told Melinda I was going to do so in the first place."
"But I responded." Daisy tried to argue, not wanting the man to take all the blame.
"You both should have told me that you were talking." May spoke up, a fixed glare on her face as she looked over at them.
Daisy rubbed the back of her neck and meekly said "We wanted to surprise you."
"Mission failed."
Daisy hung her head in shame. She tried her best to put on a brave face and tried to mask the feeling of disappointment that ran all over her body. She hated that she disappointed her mother figure. All she wanted was to make her proud but it appeared that she couldn't even do that right.
The girl felt the couch dip a bit before feeling slender finger lift her chin up and turn her head. There she stared into the warm brown eyes she had grown to love.
"I just hate the fact that a random person messaged you online and you guys have been in communication this entire time without informing me."
"It was your father." Daisy tried to logically explained.
"I understand that but still, you should have told me."
Daisy rolled her eyes "You do remember when I was a hacker, right? I know when someone is lying over the internet. I also can research them in a heartbeat."
This time May rolled her eyes "You do remember that was years ago-"
"Time doesn't affect my hacking skills-"
"And now you have people who care about you who talk to. Who could potentially cause you harm and we just want to protect you." May added as she cupped her daughter's cheek "Just…remember that you mean everything to me and if someone were to-"
"Hey," Daisy cut the woman off as she placed a hand on her shoulder and squeezed it in reassurance "I'm fine, mom. I will be fine. Nothing is going to happen. You're stuck with me."
That answer was all the confirmation May needed as she released a deep breath through her nose and visibly sagged in relief. She gave a warm smile to the girl then patted her cheek lovingly. Daisy smiled back at her mother.
William groaned "Ok, are we done here with our interrogation?" When both ladies looked over at him, he gestured towards the kitchen "I made us a nice lunch, made sure it finished around this time because I knew my daughter was going to give us the talk-"
"Dad," May groaned as she shook her head, removing her hand from her daughter's cheek.
"And if I leave it simmering too long it could overcook and we do not want that. Dòng qǐlái." Get moving.
With that, the older man made his way to the kitchen, leaving behind the ladies to get up off the couch.
May patted her daughter's thigh "Let's go. The Kung Pao Chicken is one of his best dishes." She rose from the couch, pulling her daughter up as well, then made their way to the kitchen.
In the kitchen, the man had pulled out three dishes and was scooping the Kung Pao Chicken onto each plate. Then he brought the plates over to the brown, wooden kitchen table and set them down. It appeared as if he scooped two large portions onto two of the plates while one plate had only one large portion.
William took his seat at the head of the table, the spot with the single scoop and he grabbed his fork off the napkin "You two need to eat. Look at you both; skin and bones."
May rolled her eyes at that remark "Dad,"
"Pft, Mellie, stop trying to deny it." William said as he stabbed a piece of chicken with his fork. He swallowed the food and dapped his lips with a napkin before turning his attention to the young girl, who was staring at how food "Daisy, tell me the truth."
Daisy blinked at the man in confusion.
"Is my cooking better than Lian's?" William asked seriously.
"Dad!" May exclaimed in disbelief at the directedness of the man.
"What?" He asked innocently "Can I not know how my ex-wife's cooking is?"
"Your cooking is good, sir." Daisy answered after she swallowed her first bite of the meal "Really good in fact."
"Wasn't what I asked,"
"Dad!" May scolded.
"Ok. Ok. Daisy," William folded his hands on the table as he made direct eye contact with the girl "answer this then. Lian didn't make Kung Pao Chicken for you two, did she?"
"Dad!"
"Because I can assure you that mine is one hundred percent better-"
May slapped her hands over her face and shook her head in annoyance. Honestly, it didn't surprise her at the bluntness of her father. She knew her parents were competitive people especially towards each other since the divorce. However, she was really hoping that her father wasn't going to ask Daisy questions about Lian so soon. The poor girl barely knew them let alone know how to compare them.
God, she had no idea what her father had planned for them but she hoped that it wasn't anything to do just to prove a difference from her mother. She just wanted a nice, relaxing vacation where she could have her father and daughter get to know each other more properly and bond.
That wasn't too much to ask for. Was it?
"Fore!"
The shout that Daisy made followed the sound of iron smacking against the compressed ball.
"What was that?" William questioned as he approached the girl.
May and Daisy had spent several days with May's father and the days have been peaceful. They caught up on everything that had happened recently. William didn't have too much to state about his life unlike his daughter and granddaughter, who had much more to say though they honestly debated on what to tell him due to some of the events were more serious than others. After days of just relaxing indoors, the trio decided to spend the after outside on the golf course.
Daisy turned her head over her shoulder and watched as the older man and his daughter walked closer to her. She tilted her head while her eyebrows scrunched together in confusion "What? Isn't that what golfers say?"
"Yes, when they hit a terrible shot or when there are people nearby." William tapped his own golf club on the ground as he stood in front of the girl "I thought you said you played golf before?"
Daisy placed her hands on her hips "Yeah."
"Real golf?"
Daisy blew a piece of hair out of her face as she moved her gaze down to her sneakers and mumbled "On the Wii…"
"The Wii?" He looked over at his daughter, who shook her head in disappointment, before raising an eyebrow at the young inhuman "What the hell is the Wii?"
"It's a game system." Daisy responded sheepishly.
"A game system? So not real life?"
"No but you do the actual hand motions and positions of sports-"
"Pft." William waved her off "Tiān nǎ!" My God!
Daisy weakly shrugged "They even have baseball and boxing and-"
"Back in my day, we actually used to box and play baseball and actually come in contact with other people. Not playing with, ah what do you call them?"
"Robots." May informed him with a sly smirk on her face as she crossed her arms above her chest.
"Ah, jīqìrén." Robots.
"It's good practice." Daisy tried to defend herself, though she was failing miserably in this situation.
"Good practice? Sūnnǚ, you suck." He said bluntly.
Daisy opened her mouth and held up her pointer finger in the air but she snapped her mouth shut as she rubbed her chin in thought.
"Daisy," May called out, earning the girl's full attention "Go get the golf ball."
"Me?! Why?"
"Because you're the one who smacked it over there."
"Isn't that the purpose of golf?!"
"Daisy," May warned as she gave the girl a pointed look.
Daisy groaned as she swung the golf club over her shoulder and trudged down the hill, making her way across the golf course to try and locate her golf ball.
May shook her head in amusement as she watched her girl wander around the golf course in search of the single golf ball. Did the girl need to find it? Not necessarily. Could they just have forgotten about the single golf ball and go back to the house? Of course.
"She reminds me so much of you." William said fondly as he wandered over to a wooden bench a few feet away. He sat down on the bench as he stared off in the distance, the same are to where the girl wandered to.
"Is that a good thing or a bad thing?" May wondered as she joined her father on the bench, siting right next to him. She focused her attention on her father, who was still looking out over the course, and suddenly said "Thank you."
Those two words alone made the older man turn to look into his daughter's brown eyes. He cocked his head to the side "Thank you? What exactly are you thanking me for?"
"For getting in contact with Daisy." May said as a smile tugged on her lips.
William actually smiled at that "I'm glad too. She's a great kid." He turned his head to stare across the green grass. After several long moments of silence, he spoke up "You did great with her, Mellie. You raised her wonderfully."
May ducked her head "I barely raised her. This is just Daisy herself. She's incredible on her own."
"Um no." He shook his head before placing a hand over his daughter's hand. When May looked into her father's brown eyes, he said softly "You, Melinda, raised her. Daisy told me how long she had been with you guys and I can clearly see an impact that you had on her. Try to deny it all you want, Mellie, but it's obvious that everything that that girl is, is due to you. You had such a great impact on her."
May swallowed hard as she looked up at the sky, watching as the white fluffy clouds drift along the baby blue sky. She blinked furiously, trying to push away the tears that threatened to fall. William had understood instantly, after all she was his daughter, and withdrew his hand from hers, simply placing it on his lap. The duo sat in a comfortable silence for several minutes.
They heard a twig snap, breaking the peaceful silence, and they both turned their heads to see the top of someone's head emerging from the bottom of the hills. A person with dirty blonde hair that blew in the wind. A fist shot up into the sky before opening up to reveal a white golf ball in the palm of their hands. Daisy fully emerged at the top with a smug look on her face as she drew closer to the father and daughter sitting on the bench.
"Look what I finally found!" Daisy exclaimed as she stopped right in front of them, displaying the golf ball fully to them "See!"
William nodded his head once "Very well, Daisy. Question though; where did it end up?"
"In some bushes by the pond. God knows how I found it out of the corner of my eye." Daisy enclosed the ball with her fingers as she made a fist once more. "What now?"
"Now," William slowly rose from the bench "we gather our gear and go back home."
"That's it for golf?" Daisy questioned in disbelief. Not believing that this was the end of their day.
"You have demonstrated that you aren't the best golf player-"
"I swear I'm better on the Wii-" Daisy mumbled under her breath as she crossed her arms in defeat.
William held up his hand, gathering the young girl's attention "When we get home, I will pull out this thing called the Wii and you can demonstrate your skills on there."
Daisy's jaw dropped "You have the Wii? I thought you said you didn't have it!"
"No. I never said that I did not have it."
"But-"
"Daisy, do you want to prove to me that you are decent with golf on the Wii or not?" When the inhuman nodded her head furiously, William gestured for the girl to hurry up "Well, let's get a move on it. Grab the golf bags and lets go home. Ok?"
"Ok!" Daisy spun around but stopped to turn her head over her shoulder and smiled at him "Thank you!" With that, she ran to the golf bags on the ground and placed the golf clubs in the certain spot while placing the golf ball in the particular zipper.
"That girl is remarkable." William muttered softly, loud enough for only the duo to hear.
May stared at her girl, watching as she heaved the bag over her shoulder and rush over to their golf cart. Her father was right; Daisy was incredible.
Everything the girl did, she did with good intentions. Always had everyone's best interest at heart. More than willing to make sacrifices for her strangers, her team, her friends, and her family. Tried to please everyone while standing up to those who tried to hurt others. The girl was a blessing. A gift. To the team, yes, however, the girl was a miracle to May. Daisy saved her in more ways than words could ever explain.
"I didn't just have an impact on her." May uttered those words so softly that if William wasn't standing so close then he would have never heard her.
However, since he was standing so close, he cocked his head to the side and looked over at his daughter. He saw the tears shimmer in the brown eyes. He smiled at her and wrapped her in a one sided hug, allowing his daughter to rest her head on his shoulder.
"She was the one to have an impact on me." May whispered ever so softly.
William hugged her more tightly and breathed out "That's what daughter's do. Change your life for the best. Welcome to parenthood, Mellie." He placed a kiss on the top of her head before patting her shoulder and chuckled warmly "Look at your daughter; struggling to get the golf bags in the cart like a true golfer."
May took a deep shaky breath as she looked over and watched as the girl shove the bag in the back of the cart. From where they stood, they heard the inhuman grumble a few unpleasant curse words in frustration. May shook her head in disapproval but a smile formed on her lips.
When Daisy finally loaded the cart properly, she turned around and gave the duo a thumbs up. William and May walked over to the inhuman and the three of them climbed into the golf cart, Daisy in the middle while May sat behind the wheel with William on the other side of the girl. Once May turned the key in the ignition and started the cart, the trio made their way home so they could take out the Wii and Daisy could prove to William that she did, in fact, excel in Wii golf.
