IZUKU POV
The next morning I woke up and looked around the room confused. "Right I'm still in the hospital." I sat up on the bed and grabbed my phone. "It's already 9. Hopefully they let me go home soon." I stood up and went to grab my clothes. As I changed, pain shot through my chest with every movement. My shirt and hoodie were by far going to be the hardest part of the day. After changing I sat on the edge of the bed and thought back to everything that had happened yesterday. "I got sent to a hospital because of Kacchan. A hero saved me. That same hero now knows of my past. Jirou saw a glimpse of my past…. Damn…. She probably thinks I'm a freak now." I flopped back on the bed and stared at the ceiling and got lost in my thoughts again. "I haven't seen auntie Mitsuki cry like that since mom left." I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. As I let out the breath I opened my eyes and extended my finger and touched a red orb that had appeared.
Instantly I was standing in the doorway of my apartment. All the lights were off. The door began to open behind me. I didn't turn around. I had seen this memory enough to know what's coming next.
"Mom I'm home." A younger version of myself walked through me as they continued into the house. "Mom?" I followed the younger version of my house through the house. We checked every single room and made our way back to the living room. "I guess she got called in early today." I watched myself walk into the kitchen and grab a drink." I stayed in the living room. I put my hand up and counted down from three on my fingers. As I put my last one down my younger self opened up a letter and began to read and made their way back to the living room. I watched the light drain from my eyes. As I finished the letter I fell to my knees. I watched myself stay motionless for ten minutes before the door opened up. Auntie Mitsuki was standing in the doorway.
"Izuku are you here!"
My younger self broke out of their trance and quickly hid the note in my pocket. Auntie Mitsuki walked in the house and saw me on my knees. She knelt down behind me and wrapped her arms around me and cried.
"I'm sorry Izuku."
I sat up in the bed and was gasping for air as a single tear rolled down my cheek. "Everytime It's a single tear." As I caught my breath I heard a knock on the door. "Come in."
The door opened and the doctor walked in. "How are you feeling this morning Midoriya?"
"I'm still sore and it's a pain to change."
"I expected that much, but you should be fine by Monday." He pulled up a chair and sat in front of me. "So do you want the good or bad news first?"
"Does it really matter?"
He let out a sigh. "Not really. Well the results came back and there are no infections so you're clear to go home. However the hero that brought you in requested we don't discharge you till he gets here."
I look to the ground. "Is there anything else?"
"Just the discharge paperwork and home care instructions." He opened up his chart and handed me some paperwork. "All this is just saying what you can and can't do. But because of your age you can't legally do the majority of the list. Just don't do anything too active next week. There is a note in there to excuse you from gym class. Also I'd recommend staying home Monday if the pain is still bothering you. There is a second note that covers that as well. As far as home care for the next two weeks you'll want to change the gauze daily but don't change that wrapping we just put on till tomorrow. Well give you some to take home on your way out."
"Yes sir."
"Any questions?" He stood up from his chair.
"No sir."
"Alright well we called him earlier so he should be here shortly. Try and get plenty of rest today." He made his way out the door and closed it behind him.
After the doctor left I gathered all my stuff and sat on the bed waiting for Eraserhead to show up. After thirty minutes there was another knock on the door.
"Come in." I grabbed my bag.
The door opened and a man walked in wearing dark blue jeans and a long sleeve black shirt. His hair was long and jet black and it was pulled back. "How are you feeling today kid?"
"Sore." I stood up and threw my bag over my back. "Are we good to go Eraserhead."
"Yeah do you have all your stuff?"
"Yes sir." I started walking towards the door.
"Alright let's go. Also when I'm in civilian clothes call me Mr. Aizawa. I don't like people recognizing me." He held open the door as we made our way out the door. We walked through the hallway in silence once we reached the parking lot I broke the silence.
"Um Mr. Aizawa, why did you tell them not to discharge me till you got here." I tightened my grip on the straps of my bag.
"I'm gonna make sure you get home safely." He pulled out the keys to his car. "And besides I have some questions to ask you."
"Oh… ok."
We walked up to a small black car and he clicked a button and unlocked the car. I sat in the front seat and set my bag at my feet. "Alright kid where do you live?"
"I stay in an apartment complex in Mustafa."
The first few minutes were quiet. It was hard to believe that I was being driven home by the man that took me to the hospital. We continued to drive in silence until we hit a light.
"So what did they say your recovery time would be?"
"I can't do anything active for next week. They also advised me not to go to school Monday."
"Did they give you a doctor's note to excuse you?"
"Yes sir."
"Good."
We sat in silence for another minute before he spoke up again.
"Do you still get pushed around at school?"
I let out a small laugh. "That's if they even notice me."
He looked over at me confused for a moment before looking back to the road. "What are you talking about?"
"Each day I'm either ignored like I don't exist or I'm everyone's personal stress ball."
"Do the teachers stop them."
"That's a funny joke." I turned to look out the window. "They don't care. They've all written me off as a lost cause. They don't even know I'm there half the time."
"What makes you say that."
"My first year of middle school I passed out in gym class. The next day I heard my class laughing about how the teacher didn't realize till after I had been out for twenty minutes." I could see his grip tightening on the wheel. "I was in the nurse's office the rest of the day and missed my classes. When I went back to classes the next day the teacher didn't even tell me what I missed. But it's not like it matters."
"Like hell it does." This was the first time he had an inflection in his voice.
"I guess you're right but it's nothing new. I don't pay attention in class. I just listen to music and write the notes down. I've taught myself everything since middle school and my grades have always been top of the class."
He was at a loss for words. We sat another few minutes in silence before he let out a long breath.
"Why don't you tell them you have a quirk, don't you think that would make all this stop?"
I let out another laugh. "Yeah I'll go from a quirkless freak to someone that sends people to their most traumatic moments. Honestly out of the two I'd rather be the quirkless at least then I have a chance to meet people who are understanding about my situation."
"And how well has that worked out for you? I couldn't answer him because I knew it hadn't worked out. The one person that considers me a friend doesn't even know I'm quirkless. "Well it seems like you have at least one friend. That girl wouldn't let go of your hand the entire ride to the hospital."
"Sh… she doesn't know anything about me. We've only met a few times."
He let out a sigh. "I figured you'd say that but you really should tell her something."
"... I'll think about it."
We continued the rest of the drive in silence. The drive to my apartment was thirty minutes from the hospital. We pulled up to the rundown complex and he parked the car. "Is this really it?"
"Yeah this is ho… This is where I live."
He glanced towards me before looking at the complex again. "Can I see your doctor's notes? I think it would be best for me to take them to your school."
"Um sure." I open my hand and pull out a folder that holds my notes and I hand them to him.
"Thanks I want to see exactly what goes on there." He took the notes and put them in his wallet. "What school do you go to?"
"Aldera Junior High." I zipped up my bag and reached for the door.
"Hey kid I have one more question." He put a hand on my shoulder.
"Ok.."
"What do you plan on doing for a career?"
I let out a sigh and looked towards the floor of the car. "I really enjoy making music so I'll probably do something with that. But honestly a part of me still wants to be a hero and say fuck you to all those who say I couldn't do it."
He let out a small laugh as he took his hand off my shoulder. "I'm glad to hear that. Don't give up on your dreams kid. I'll see you around."
"Thank you sir." I got out of the car and pulled out my phone as I made my way up the stairs. I looked down at it and called auntie Mitsuki.
"Izuku is everything alright!"
"Yeah I just got back to the apartment."
"Wait already when did they let you go?"
"About an hour ago. The hero that took me to the hospital drove me home to make sure I made it back safely."
"Oh that's a relief. I'm glad you're back home safe."
"Yeah… me too."
"Hey do you want to come over for dinner tonight?"
"Thanks for the offer but I'd like to just stay home and rest for the day. I'm still pretty sore."
"Oh that's fine I'm sure you need it. Well what about tomorrow then?"
I let out a sigh as I opened the door to my apartment. "I can't, I already promised Jirou I'd do dinner with her tomorrow."
I hear a snicker from the phone "Are you sure you're not dating?"
"Yes. She actually doesn't know. Her dad invited me over. I'm sure they're both blaming themselves for what happened."
"Ah well I can't argue with that. But Izuku just keep an open mind. I've never known you to talk to a girl that's not me or a teacher for this long."
"I know I know."
"Well I would like to meet this girl someday."
"Sure right after I tell her about my quirk."
"... You don't plan for me to ever meet her."
"I can feel your glare over the phone and no how would I even explain that."
"That's easy, just tell them I'm your aunt."
"Yeah I'll say, 'Hi this is my auntie Mitsuki. She's not really family, just a family friend that raises me because my mom is in mental rehabilitation and I don't know my dad.' I'm sure that will go over great."
"Izuku you know you'll have to let people in at some point right?"
"Yeah I know. It's not like she's completely in the dark…"
"...Go on."
"Yesterday she saw my scars and she's seen the rubber band before."
"Are you going to tell her anything more?"
"I.. I don't know. I feel like I owe her some answers but at the same time I don't want to scare away a friend… Oh shit... I still have to call her."
"Why are you still talking to me? Go call her now."
"Oh please you and I both know you would have kicked down my door if I didn't call you first this morning."
"Shush this is my first chance to tease you or Katsuki about a girl. I won't let it s;ip past me. Now don't keep her waiting."
"Fine."
"Hey Izuku."
"Yeah."
"I'm proud of you."
"Thanks…"
I hung up and walked to the kitchen. I opened one of the cabinets and pulled out a false back that I used to hide my bottles of whiskey. I took a half empty bottle and took a swig as I walked back to my room. I set the bottle on my night stand and fell back onto my bed. "Alright let's get this over with." I took my phone out and dialed the number on the note they left for me.
…
…
"Hello?"
"Hi Kyotoku it's Midoriya. Is Jirou home?"
"Yeah she's in her room. Why?"
"Oh… well she asked me to call her when I got out of the hospital last night."
"Haha why am I not surprised by that."
"Oh… well could you let her know I'm out of the hospital now?"
"Nope."
"Wh.. why not?"
"Because that's your job. But why don't you just call her instead."
"I… I only have this number."
"I know kid I gave you this one remember. Now grab a pen. I'm only gonna tell you this once.
I quickly found a pen and wrote down the number he told me. "Thank you sir."
"It's no problem kid and don't forget about tomorrow."
"I won't sir… thank you."
"Also I heard you make music. I think I speak for everyone when I say we'd like to hear it."
"It's nothing special honestly. It's more of a hobby."
"Maybe it is now but every passion starts out as a hobby. Anyways it's up to you but you should probably call Kyoka now. You don't want to keep her waiting, trust me on that."
With that he hung up on me. I laid there confused at what had just happened. "I just got a girls number…. from her dad…. what the fuck is my life?" I sat up and looked towards the bottle of whisky and took another swig. "I think I earned that one." I let out a small chuckle as I added the new contact into my phone.
