Chapter 9: Objecting
5 months later…
May sighed. "Rapidash, today's the day…"
Rapidash neighed. May pet him.
"You're right. I can do this." May said. "But...it's been five months since I've even seen Drew…"
Rapidash looked into May's eyes. He can tell that May is really sad to be getting married today. And that she still misses Drew. They had both confessed to each other and...leaving him didn't feel right. But May knows that if she were to keep hiding from the royal guards...then they would keep searching for her. And she also has her duty to protect her Kingdom after becoming Queen.
"Well...I better go get ready." May said. "I'll see you later." With that said, May stood up and exited the stable.
Rapidash knew that he had to do something. He agrees with Drew that he wants May to be happily married. And Drew is the only one that can make her happy for her entire life.
Rapidash dashed out of the stable. He was running to a certain mansion, belonging to a certain green-haired friend. Before Rapidash left the city though, he stopped when he saw a flyer on the wall of a building. The flyer was inviting everyone to the wedding. Rapidash ripped the paper off the wall with his teeth and he continued the run.
May is in the castle with a bunch of girls helping her with her white wedding dress. She's just standing in front of a full length mirror, frowning. Her thoughts go back to Drew. His green hair...emerald eyes...perfect smile…
("Hopefully you'll really be okay with this.") May thought. ("I remember before we separated that you said all you care about is for me to be happy. And...hopefully that's true, because my Dad definitely won't allow us to be together.") May sighed. ("Just pray that I'll actually enjoy this, Drew. Which I most likely won't.")
Rapidash neighed loudly. People in that city all looked towards the sound of hooves running and the horse neighing. Rapidash neighed loudly again, and that time…
It reached Drew's ears.
Drew heard the sound and looked out of his bedroom window. He saw a Rapidash stop in front of the mansion's gates.
"A Rapidash…" Drew muttered. His eyes widened. "No. It couldn't be."
Drew quickly ran outside and towards the Rapidash. Could it be? Is it really hers? He hasn't seen this Rapidash in five months. But he doesn't see his trainer. Once he noticed that, his expression faded. He stopped at the gates.
"Rapidash...are you…" Drew started.
Rapidash neighed and walked a bit closer, looking down at the flyer in his mouth and then up at Drew. Drew got the idea and he reached out, taking the paper from Rapidash.
Drew read the flyer completely. He then crumbled the paper up and threw it on the floor.
Rapidash looked at Drew in confusion.
Drew looked up at Rapidash. "I can't go. That's what you wanted to tell me, right? If I could go?"
Rapidash nodded and neighed.
"Listen. May's made up her mind. There's nothing I could do about it."
Rapidash neighed loudly, arguing with Drew.
"Rapidash...you're a good friend to May." Drew said. "But we haven't seen each other in months. Going there would be pointless. She probably doesn't even remember who I am."
Rapidash stomped his right foot on the ground. Drew flinched a little from the loud neigh that came afterward. Rapidash glared at Drew.
Drew stared at Rapidash for a bit longer, until-
"She remembers me?" Drew questioned.
Rapidash nodded.
"She...misses me?"
Rapidash nodded again.
"And she...still likes me?"
Rapidash nodded for a third time.
"Well then," Drew smiled confidently. "I think we have a wedding to stop." He opened the gates and quickly climbed up on Rapidash.
Drew pulled the reins back, Rapidash standing on his hind legs before dashing off.
"Okay Rapidash, let's see how fast you can run." Drew said.
Rapidash neighed, speeding up.
The wedding had already started. The ballroom is filled with people, May and Prince Brendan are standing in front of the officiant, words have been said by the officiant, and May has had a fake smile on the entire time.
Drew and Rapidash just entered the city. "Come on...we've got to make it." Drew muttered.
The officiant is saying more words that May isn't even paying attention to. There's something about "love" and "having a strong relationship in marriage." But May isn't listening to the officiant. She's just thinking about Drew.
"Now, are there any objections?" The officiant asked.
It was quiet in the ballroom. May looked at everyone, hoping that someone would say something. But no one did.
"Well, since there are no objections, then let's-"
Before the officiant could finish that sentence, the doors slammed open and a voice yelled, "I object!"
The audience gasped and everyone looked at who entered the room. May's eyes widened. Drew. The person she was just thinking about. The person she loves and hasn't seen in five months.
Drew was on Rapidash and he now jumped off. No one in the audience seems to know who this green-haired person is. Drew started walking down the aisle with Rapidash. He locked eyes with May and he smiled. May gave a small smile in return.
Norman saw May's smile to this mystery person, and he fumed. He stood up from the chair and walked to the aisle, facing Drew and stopping him.
"Who are you?" Norman asked, eyebrows furrowed.
"My name is Drew." Drew said.
Norman's eyes widened. Didn't May mention someone by the name of Drew and that he's the one she wants to be with?
"Why did you object to this wedding?"
"Because May isn't happy." Drew answered.
"Of course she's happy." Norman said, looking back at May.
"She's only happy because I stopped the wedding."
Norman looked at Drew. "Even if you object, you're just a commoner. I can't have my daughter thinking that being with a commoner is good."
May frowned. "Your Majesty," Drew started. "I promise I'll be the perfect one for your daughter. I'll take care of her and protect her from harm. I'll make sure that she's never sad. She'll always have a smile on her face. I promise to be hers and hers alone." May blushed. "I only want her to be happy. And she's not happy if she marries that Prince." That's when Brendan's eyebrows furrowed. "I promise that I'll stand by her. I'll be with her all the time, keeping these promises, because…" he looked at May in her eyes. "I love her."
May's blush deepened. The audience gasped at Drew's words. Norman just stood there, eyebrows furrowed at Drew.
"I love you too, Drew." May said. May and Drew smiled at each other, faces slightly red.
Norman looked behind him at May. He looked back at Drew. He sighed. "I can see that...she really loves you and not the Prince." Drew looked at Norman. "And...you love her." Drew nodded. "Very well then. I can see that...I might have been a little too hard on May…"
"Dad?" May questioned.
"You'll keep those promises you made to me?" Norman asked.
"Yes." Drew answered.
Norman smiled. "Then I'll allow you to be with May."
May gasped. Drew and May locked eyes with each other and May ran towards Drew as fast as she could in heels.
May lunged herself at Drew, wrapping her arms around his neck in an embrace. Drew wrapped his arms around her waist, hugging her back.
"I love you, Drew." May said. "I never stopped thinking about you since I left five months ago."
"I never stopped thinking about you either." Drew said. "I wanted to tell you my true feelings, but I wasn't even sure of them yet."
They pulled away from each other, May's hands on Drew's shoulders and Drew's hands on May's hips. "You told me you like liked me." May said.
"I know, but...it took me a while longer to figure out that…" Drew started leaning in closer to May. "I love you."
May blushed. She knew what was coming next and she was ready. She stared into Drew's eyes a little longer before closing hers. Drew closed his eyes and pressed his lips against May's.
May's arms wrapped around Drew's neck again. The audience started applauding for them. May and Drew smiled against each other's mouths. This is their first kiss on the lips and it explodes fireworks in their chests.
Drew came, stopped the wedding, and now he and May can be together. Some things are going through Drew's mind right now. What if they were to get married? Would it be possible to actually marry May right now? He knows of his feelings for her. They both know of their feelings for each other. If he were to propose right now, how would May react? And how would Norman react?
("I love her…") Drew thought. ("She's the only one for me. And I know that she's who I'm destined to spend the rest of my life with. I want to let her know that.")
May and Drew backed away from each other. May then pulled Drew in for another hug. "Thank you for coming." May whispered into Drew's ear.
Drew looked behind May at Norman. Norman saw a serious look on Drew's face and he seemed to know right away what Drew was trying to tell him. Norman smiled and nodded.
Drew smiled and pulled away from May. "I'm glad I came." Drew said. "Because I really want you to know my true feelings for you."
"You already said you love me." May said, blushing.
"Right. But now…" Drew started. He took May's hand in both of his hands. "I'll say…" he kneeled down on one knee, looking up into May's eyes.
May's face immediately turned scarlet red and her eyes widened.
"Will you marry me?" Drew asked, holding May's hand up in both hands in front of him.
The audience all gasped and stared wide-eyed at Drew and May. Caroline and Norman both looked at May and Drew, smiling.
"Drew...I…" May started.
"I love you, May. With all of my heart." Drew said. "Ever since you came into my life, I've felt happiness when I'm with you. Even if it was just a week." May giggled softly. "You mean the world to me. And I really can't think of anyone better to be with. You're the only one I've ever truly loved and...I want to always be the one that makes you laugh. I want to make you smile. I want to be there for you if you're sad, and I'll cheer you up. I can't imagine my life without you."
May smiled with blush on her cheeks. Her eyes got watery with happiness. "I'd love to marry you, Drew. It's a yes! A definite yes!"
Drew stood up and May immediately wrapped her arms around Drew's neck again, pulling him to her and kissing him. The audience roared with applause. Drew's arms wrapped around May's waist.
They pulled away from each other after a moment. "Say...how about we do this now?" Drew asked.
May gasped softly and then nodded. Drew took her hand and then they walked to where the Prince was.
"Hey. You can't just come in here and take my bride away from me." Brendan said.
"I think he can." Norman said. "Because he just did. Now get out of my castle. You're not the right one for my daughter."
The Prince glared at Drew before turning and stomping out of the ballroom.
"Officiant, we'd like to be married." Drew said.
"Right now if that's okay." May added.
"It would be my honor." The officiant said.
Norman walked back to his seat and nodded to Drew. Drew smiled and walked forward, turning around to face May. He held both of her hands in his and their eyes were staring into the other's. They both have a smile on their faces as this is sure to be the best day of their lives.
