Chapter Eleven
Luke sat there for about forty minutes, panicking more about what was happening as he did so, he was just about to get up to ask the nurse at the desk if there was an update when he heard someone call his name. He turned towards the brunette girl with bright blue eyes, identical to her mother's, one of the reason's Rory had stolen his heart all those years ago even though he claimed at the time to hate children.
"Rory," he said rushing up to her. She hugged him crying gently, he rubbed her hair.
"Is she okay?" Rory asked. He sighed.
"I haven't heard anything yet" he admitted "How did your grandparents take it?" he asked her.
"They are upset and worried, especially because Grandma had a fight with mum and is worried she won't be able to make it right," Rory said. Luke led her to one of the chairs and they sat down.
"Are you and mum back together?" the girl asked.
"Only in my dreams, no, she needed a place to stay after the blow-up with your father, we are just friends though, nothing has happened," Luke said, Rory believed him because she knew Luke wouldn't let anything happen if it wasn't the right time.
"I can't believe dad..." Rory said
"He has been drinking a lot, properly my fault, I shouldn't have become friends with Lorelai again, it only angered him," Luke told her.
"Luke mum broke your heart with dad, I didn't see you whacking her in the face after she told you she slept with him or married him" Rory replied knowing her dad had to be responsible for his actions.
"I am sorry Rory, for everything, I want you to know you are always welcome in the diner, no matter what happens, our break up does not change the fact I care about you," Luke told her.
"DAD" April now shouted. Luke stood and rushed to hug the younger girl. She looked a bit teary even if she didn't know Lorelai all too well, she was very overwhelmed.
"Thanks for coming sweetie," he told her leading her back to Rory. "Rory this is April my daughter, April this is Rory's Lorelai's daughter" he introduced them.
"Hey, mum told me about you," Rory said
"I assume all bad" April said
"No," Rory told her. Luke sat in the middle hugging them both and had to stop himself crying. If he had not pushed Lorelai away they could all be a family now, this could be just a family day with their girls, but he ruined that.
"I am so jealous you went to Chilton, it is nearly impossible to get in there," April said as the girls started to chat about school and books and life, getting on like a house on fire, they would have made great stepsisters.
"Someone who understands that reference finally, dad had to buy a dictionary to understand half the things I tell him," April said. Rory laughed.
"Mum said it hurt her brain when I spoke about anything to do with school or work so I saved that for school" Rory replied. Luke smiled listening to them, wondering how they both ended up with such smart girls.
A few minutes later a doctor came out, he walked over to the family and spoke.
"Hi there so the operation worked we stopped the bleeding, Lorelai lost a lot of blood so she is having transfusions but is weak right now, you will be able to see her soon, but the surgeon will be here soon, he needs to talk to you before you see her," the doctor said professionally.
"What do you mean? What's wrong?" Rory asked
"I can't say any more, he will be here soon," the man said leaving just as Richard and Emily appeared.
"What is going on where is Lorelai?" Emily asked. Rory jumped up to hug them explaining what had just happened.
"Well that is ridiculous, they should be telling us no..." he stopped "Oh Luke what are you doing here and who are you?" he asked looking at April
"I called the ambulance Mr Gilmore and this is my daughter April," Luke said.
"Why has she been staying with you?" Emily asked suspiciously. Luke opened his mouth to reply but was grateful when a doctor interrupted them saying he was ready to speak to them now, they all followed him to a meeting room. Luke was thankful he was saved.
They all sat down in the room and the doctor smiled at them holding up a file. Once everyone was settled he started speaking.
"I just need to speak to you about the operation, everything went well we managed to stop the bleeding and she is taken well to the transfusion but the reason I wanted to talk to you was the reason this happened in the first place," the man said.
"Why is she sick?" Richard asked worried
"I noticed there was a lot of ripping and tearing in the vaginal area, all the injury caused an infection, which was why she was bleeding so much and had the pain, it's lucky she got the pain when she did, she couldn't of survived bleeding like that much longer," the doctor said.
"What do you mean by injury? How on earth did that happen?" Emily questioned not understanding.
"There are only two main reasons for injuries as bad as Ms Gilmore's" he started to say "First childbirth if someone has had a baby recently there could be scarring" he started
"Well unless she did and no-one knew we can rule that out," Luke said confused.
"Yes I looked at her records and see there is no record of a recent childbirth, the second reason is much more likely," the doctor said "Injuries like that can be obtained by sexual abuse," the doctor said "You find a lot of rape victims suffer for months afterwards as a result," he told them.
