Hello people, and welcome back to Highschool of the Dead: Resurrection. Yep, two chapters at once, something I hope to do as a trend to speed things up. Anyway, I supposed you could say this is technically the finale of this arc since it's the 10th chapter, and each arc should ideally have 5 chapters, but more importantly...we have a zombie horde to tear apart, so...insert whatever kick-ass music you want here, and let the ass-whooping commence.
Takashi and company looked over the road that leads up into the base...and there were zombies as far as the eye could see.
"Holy God in Heaven..." Kohta whispered.
"Don't start calling on him yet; we're not even close to dead yet." Saeko said before pulling her gunto.
"Well...anyone got a plan?" Kohta asked.
"This!" Takashi exclaimed before launching a grenade into the crowd, and blowing the entire group in front of them to bits. The other three were clearly inspired, because they all tensed up, and Kohta took a prone position, Rei looked down her scope and Saeko prepared to charge.
"I'll take the ones on the side..." Saeko breathed out before dashing off to engage the thin line of zombies on the side, and severed heads one after another. Kohta and Rei then opened fire on the ones in the middle, with Kohta taking advantage of the literally uphill battle, and unloading dozens of bullets into dozens of heads, with Rei blowing through multiple heads with each shot. Takashi mostly sat back and watched the massacre since he had only a few grenades that needed to be spent wisely, especially it was the group's deadliest weapon by far, and double especially since Saeko was down there, and the last thing the group wanted was for her to die because of friendly fire.
At one point, Saeko drew so many zombies her way, then Takashi had to lob a grenade into the back of the crowd engaging her, and she took cover just in time to avoid being sprayed with zombie bits. She then composed herself and prepared to take care of the rest of the zombies coming her way. The whole time, she recalled the first time she let loose, and became more and more worked up until she started laughing and huffing from the thrill of the slaughter. Each strike severed more than one head, and the ones that didn't came at the zombies in spades. Saeko spun away from a zombie that lunged at her only to lose it's head, she impaled some through the face every now and then, even severed their knees and stomped in the backs of their heads when she could afford to.
Luckily for her, the others were too busy keeping an eye on the rest of the crowd to notice her increasing bloodlust. Kohta was actually struggling to reload his SAW, while Rei was panicking to keep the undead back...that was until Takashi blasted more zombies to bits. Kohta then finally unloaded another storm of bullets into the crowd while yelling at the top of his lungs, and Rei continued to pop rows of heads with her rifle. Then then ran out of bullets, then slung her rifle over her shoulder, pulled her Glock, and scored a multitude of headshots with it instead. Takashi then lobbed another grenade into the crowd, and then tried to do it again...but failed.
"I'm out of grenades!" Takashi yelled.
"I hope Corporal Toriyama got those humvees set up!" Rei yelled, then Kohta stopped firing.
"Oh shit..." Kohta breathed out.
"Saeko! Get out of there!" Takashi yelled, and Saeko chopped down the ones close to her while backing up, then sprinted back to where the others were.
"Now what?" She asked.
"You get down." Masato said, and the group turned to see him...and he pointed the AA-12 their way, and they ducked just in time for Masato to open fire into the horde, tearing dozens of them to shreds.
"Is it set up sir?" Takashi asked.
"Yes. Go back and man the guns. I will cover you..." Masato breathed out as he reloaded the AA-12. The group then ran past him and never looked back as the one-man-army behind them stayed behind to tear the zombies to shreds. Eventually, he had to kicked one zombie down the hill into several more before taking advantage of the domino effect he made in the crowd to retreat and brace himself with a third drum magazine full of shells to unload into the heads of his prey.
Once the zombies appeared...they each took one shell to the head after the other, with no shell going to waste. More zombies then came over the hill, and Masato pulled a grenade, bit the pin, tore it out, and waited a few seconds before he threw the grenade. It then exploded in mid-air, flattening dozens of now-headless zombies, and buying him time to reload again. He then had an idea: he kicked one down, and brought himself a great deal of time...what if he shot out the zombies' knees. The moment he tested the idea, the zombies became roadblocks for the others, which brought him more than enough time to retreat back to base.
"How do you use these things?" Rei asked as she looked over a minigun.
"Just turn it, and pull one of the triggers." Kohta said.
"Here they come!" Takashi yelled, and Masato rushed down the road with the zombies in the distance.
"I managed to slow them down, but I need you to stay here until we get the APC to retrieve you." Masato said.
"We're on it." Rei said...and Masato looked over the car Itachi stole from the Ghosts, then looked at the storeroom. He then rushed over to the area, and didn't even acknowledge Itachi, Shizuka, and Alice.
"Where are you going in such a hurry?" Itachi asked, but Masato ran past him. "Hey! I asked you a question!" Masato then grabbed a bag, and then ran past the trio again, over to the car. He then pulled out nothing else but a block of semtex...and then got to work on the car.
"Open fire!" Takashi yelled, and the four-person team unleashed dozens of bullets into the horde of zombies every second, tearing hundreds of them apart in a matter of minutes. Regardless, there were hundreds more where they came from, but the squad didn't stop for anything. Not only did the zombie lose their heads, but their bodies themselves, were completely shredded. The mass of bullets was so dense that the zombies were cut down to size with no hope of them gaining any ground, quite the opposite; the zombies were losing ground and littering the battlefield with their scattered body parts at a dizzying pace. Before long, the squad even managed to wipe the horde out...only for another horde to take it's place.
"You've got to be kidding me! We must have killed hundreds of them, where are they coming from?" Rei asked.
"Maybe Itachi had a point after all; maybe our guns did cause this problem." Kohta said.
"We should still keep fighting. There's a reason he wants them all dead." Saeko said.
"Yeah...and I want them all dead too." Rei said.
"That makes four of us then." Takashi said before aiming at the horde again, and opening fire. The other three followed suit, and tore down hundreds more...before they stopped one by one.
"I'm out of ammo!" Rei yelled.
"Me too." Saeko said.
"Corporal Toriyama! Sir! What do we do now-" Takashi stopped talking when he heard then saw the car driving towards them, and then the engine revved over and over...and Masato was in the driver seat.
"What the hell's he doing?" Rei asked, and Masato drove past the humvees at breakneck speed, right in the horde's direction.
"Nevermind what he's doing; what's he thinking?!" Takashi exclaimed, and then Masato jumped out of the car, and rolled along the ground. The four then watched the car continue towards the horde, and Masato pulled out a remote detonator.
"Fire in the hole...!" He growled before pressing the button...and a massive fiery explosive consumed the then stood up and looked over the damage he did to the horde...and the environment.
"What did you do?" Rei asked.
"I placed semtex explosives on the car, and even put some gasoline canisters in it. The results are much better than I hoped..." Masato said.
"Is there anything you won't do to kill zombies?" Takashi asked as Masato continued watching the zombies smolder.
"I told you...this is my mission." Masato said before walking over to the APC that was being loaded.
"You are officially the most insane person on Earth...!" Itachi said while shaking his head.
"Don't tell me you're jealous." Saya said with a smirk.
"Don't be stupid; I would never endanger myself like that." Itachi said.
"Who are you calling stupid, stupid?!" Saya snapped.
"Wow...how much brainpower did it take to come up with that?" Itachi asked.
"Enough! That explosive was massive; there's bound to be even more zombies on the way, and we used up most of our firepower." Masato said.
"Good, I'm amazed our eardrums didn't get blown out from all that horsefuckery." Itachi said before getting in the APC.
"Umm,something just occurred to me, and...this might be a bad time for that..." Shizuka said.
"Spit it out..." Masato said.
"Well...this Styrker has no weapons, and alot of those humvees do. Wouldn't it be safer to use one of them instead?" Shizuka asked, and Masato looked at the humvees in the distance.
"We can't move the supplies from this hunk of metal to another! I nearly threw my back out trying to load this one!" Saya said.
"No...she's right." Masato said.
"What?" Saya asked.
"If all of us get involved, we'll have it loaded in no time." Kohta said.
"Exactly." Masato said, and then the group looked back, and saw a small horde of zombies that entered the base, some of whom were one fire.
"They've gotten in!" Alice exclaimed before running into the APC, and Zeke started barking.
"I'll take care of them-" Itachi cuts Masato off.
"The hell you are. You've made enough noise for one day..." He said, and Masato simply watched the rogue archer put one arrow after another in the zombies' faces, ignoring the burning ones, who dropped on their own accord. Itachi then rushed into the scattered crowd to retrieve his arrows, and then continued putting his talents to work...much to Masato's interest.
"Well, let's go switch vehicles." Takashi said, and everyone jumped into the APC, drove over to a humvee that wasn't used, one with an M2 Browning on it. They then got to work loading the supplies into the humvee's back...and Kohta was correct. With more people working on it, the humvee was loaded in less than a minute. The group then drove over to get Itachi, and he jumped into the humvee as soon as the door opened, and Masato himself drove the humvee out through the back entrance.
"Wait! This isn't the way into the city." Saya said.
"I know." Masato said, and Shizuka looked at a map.
"According to this...we're going to another city entirely." She said.
"Again, I know. I was born and raised there. It's far smaller than that city, and likely to have more to offer as well...but also greater threats." Masato said.
"What makes you say that...sir?" Takashi asked.
"Because the JSDF concentrated their efforts on the larger cities, but the smaller cities received only token forces to handle them. Nevertheless, that was more than enough to handle the populace." Masato said.
"The more civilians in a city, the more soldiers and police workers are needed to keep the peace." Saya said.
"Correct. However, the Ghosts and zombies are as much at odds with each other as they are with everyone else, for obvious reasons." Masato said.
"So what's the problem?" Takashi asked.
"The problem...is that some of those token forces pushed their luck...with disastrous consequences..." Masato trailed off.
"But, what makes the threat there worse than the threat we left behind?" Kohta asked.
"All I will say is that...well, the Ghosts there aren't just more vile than the zombies to a degree, but there were far fewer ways to fight the zombies last time I was there." Masato said.
"That makes sense." Rei said.
"But with the weapons and skills you've acquired, my mission will go far smoother this time." Masato said as seriously as ever.
"Your mission...right..." Saeko said, as the group simply enjoyed the ride down the road, and then hours later, as the sun neared the end of it's cycle, they finally made it to the city.
"We're here." Masato said, and the group looked out the window at it. Just like the city they came from, this one had clear signs of war damage, especially with the plumes of smoke in the distance, and the damaged buildings that were visible from a mile away. However, the city was roughly half as large, and more rural in some areas.
"Hey, Itachi, wake up, we're here." Saeko said as she shook Itachi awake.
"What...?" He groaned.
"We're here." Saeko said and Itachi took a moment to stretch.
"Lovely." He said, as he joined the group in looking the city over.
"So...that's supposed to be our new home." Rei said, and Shizuka yawned.
"Speaking of home, I want to get to get my own home soon, and a bed all to myself..." She said, and leaned on Masato with her massive breast pressing into his arm, much to the Takashi and Kohta's envy...then Masato nudged her awake.
"Focus. We have to get down there before we do anything, and I still want you to be able to fight, so be as ready as you can be." Masato said, and Shizuka pouted as the humvee rolled down the remainder of the street to the mouth of the suburbs.
"So, just how much of this place do you know?" Itachi asked.
"Like I said, I was born and raised here...however, there's no telling what changed since I was last here. So we're going to need a scout, and you have proven yourself more than capable of the task." Masato said.
"Of course I have, not only am I Japan's best archer, I'm also the best scout you're likely to get your hands on." Itachi said.
"That's quite a statement." Saeko said.
"Oh, you know it's true. I saved all of your asses alot of trouble, and I can continue doing so." Itachi said, and Rei leaned by Takashi.
"He really is a fast worker..." She whispered.
"Go with it Rei, we need him." Takashi said.
Out with the old setting, in with a new one...and speaking of new ones, that horde got torn a new one. O.k. bad puns aside, Masato has more balls than a gumball machine pulling a stunt like that with the car bomb doesn't he? Anyway, a brand new city, means a brand new adventurer, so be sure you Rate, Review, and Share while I cook one up. Stay tuned.
