Vilja Chapter 11
lysa - illuminate.

Snow danced around her, falling slowly and covering her in a blanket of white powder. Each step she took added more weight to her muscles. As if she was trying to drag a huge boulder, the weight behind her movement gained exponentially. Her legs slowed to a snail's pace, finally rendering her unable to move.
Searching around desperately for any sign of help. Her eyes darted from one object to another, like a skittish prey animal. The longer she sat motionless, the higher the crushing anxiety rose inside her chest. Squeezing the air from her lungs as she tried to suck in oxygen.
A shadow caught her vision, she locked onto it as it moved closer to her from the blurred tree line. Squinting and focusing her eyes, the thing came into view.

A calm began inside her and washed outwards. Allowing her body to move again. As it walked further into the light, its features became visible. The blonde wolf with red eyes glared directly into her...

Ochako's eyes sprung open, spasms and shooting pain began as soon as her eyes opened. They tried to focus on her surroundings, but her vision was blurred beyond recognition, along with a soft ringing in her ears made it impossible for her to decipher where she was laying. Fear and confusion crept in - where was she? The last thing she could remember was Katsuki, on top of her.

"Kat..tsuki" She whimpered, feeling around the blurred world she now inhabited.

A thumping pain commenced in the back of her skull, travelling through her brain and protruding through her eyes. Hissing in pain, she grabbed at her head. Her touch only made the throbbing worse, turning it into a stabbing feeling. Had her head been injured? Why couldn't she see properly?

"Alpha?" She asked again. "Where am I?"

"Alpha, the scouts came back with the number of orrostumaðr and supplies the Saxon borg has inside its walls. The reward far outweighs the risks"

A grumble sounded beside Katsuki, his second in command did not agree. "How many Alphas do they have in their ranks?" Eijiro asked.

"Tveir, from what we could ascertain"

"Ya idiot!" It was his turn to scoff. "They can hide their status"

The four large Alphas looked toward their supreme. "Leynask Alpha?"

"Já, the Saxons, they have means t'hide their second gender" Katsuki answered, continuing to sharpen his axe.

"Huræ?" Eijiro asked.

"Suppressants" Katsuki said.

"We would see their symptoms? Their sótt?"

"No, we wouldn't. The Mærr? She hid herself with s...suppressants?" Eijiro asked.

Katsuki simply nodded and the group growled, the realisation at the gravity of the situation hitting them.

"So we can't use our noses t'hunt them out"

Katsuki snarled. "It won't matter, we are worth ten of their warriors. I won against one Alpha and nine Beta. Even bein' taken by surprise." His grin took up most of his lower jaw. "We outnumbered the þrótt-lauss in strength and dugr"

Growling again erupted as loud footsteps pounded into the air around them.

"Alpha! The Omega, she's awake!"

Bewilderment hit his chest like a strike from a formidable opponent. The healers had told him not to expect her to wake so soon, if at all. And when she did, for her personality to have changed considerably. Severe blows to the head, like the ones suffered by Ochako usually spelt the end. He had not accepted the healers' words, but he had also not accepted she was going to return to him, as she had been before. Sitting in some sort of disorientated limbo for days, his mind jumping from one possibility to the next.

"Garpr!" Eijiro sung out gleefully.

The term of endearment calling his Alpha from his internal thoughts.
Katsuki grabbed his axe, replacing it in the holster, his feet moving before he even gave a command. Mind racing, his hopes kept repeating over and over the same words.

Let her be the same as she was.

Thoughts he would have once considered weak, now absorbing him. There was no room in the life of a supreme Alpha for the need of another. That had always been his resolute opinion. His need for her had initially enraged him, until he heard her voice calling out to him that day. Inside his mind while she was savagely beaten.
Seeing her in the dirt, thrashed within an inch of her life, changed him. Regret was not something Katsuki Bakugou felt. That is until he witnessed the small omega's head covered in blood and smashed open. How foolish he had been, to leave her alone with them. He should have bonded with her when he had the chance.
Exploding his ego and reassembling it in a second, the situation made his goals clear. She was his, they were each other's destiny, and he would never let another touch her like that again. The opinions of the pack be damned. She made him weak, she gave his enemies a way to get leverage over him. But she was also his ætla.

The group of six made it to the Alpha's tent in a matter of moments. Whimpering billowing from the tent as he forced his way inside, eyes searching for that amber glow he had become so accustomed to.

The left-hand side of her face was hidden under blood soaked cloth, the other adorned with dark purple bruising. Her face was almost too swollen to recognise her. "Alpha?"

Locking onto her gaze, the tightness released from his chest. "Don't move, you're still wounded" The healer said beside him.

"Alpha" She whimpered again.

"She is unable t'remember what happened t'her, Alpha. I have told her she has a head injury; it may be a good idea t'wait to inform her of the rest" The smaller Beta man said. "She still needs t'heal, in body and mind"

Six burly Alpha and one Beta had piled into the tent, stuffing the air with testosterone and body heat. The little omega curled further into the fur, trying to retract from the overwhelming scene.
Katsuki swung around. "Eijiro, meet me outside, I will give yar orders t'move out tonight"

"But she is too wounded to move" He gulped, unable to break his sight from the small Saxon women's injuries. "We can't leave!"

"Stjórna!" He said, flashing his fangs "Now Eijiro!"

His redheaded subordinate looked directly into his eyes, a flash of defiance he had yet to witness from his best friend. There was no malice, only apprehension.

"Don't make me fuckin' repeat myself" He boomed.

Dipping his head, Eijiro turned, forcing the other men from the tent with his broad body. The healer took the hint and scurried from the tent with his tools and medicine.

"I will be back t'change her dressings Alpha" He murmured before he too disappeared into the cool afternoon air.

Turning his attention back to his omega, in the time it had taken the others to leave, she had sat up. It was agonising to see her in such a state. However, he willed his facial muscles to remain in place. She would already be confused and scared. Refusing to add any more pain to her already torn psyche, he approached her with his usual domineering but vacant manner. Strangely, it seemed to settle her considerably.

"Little Omega" He said, dropping his voice low.

"What happened to me? No one will answer my questions, how long have I been out? The last thing I remember, it was night-time and we were…" She stopped herself. Looking away from him.

Even through the bandages he could tell, she still had trouble saying it outside of her desire...

"Fuckin'?"

A small, lukewarm giggle fell from her. Loosening his anxiety's grip further. "You're so vulgar Katsuki" She said through muffled hissing sounds of pain.

Eyes never leaving her, he reached for a bowl of stew he spied in his peripherals earlier. "Ya need t'eat"

The softened bedding crushed under his body's weight as he sat down in front of her.

"Alpha…" She purred, reaching out to touch his legs. Tingling sensations radiated outwards from the connection of their skin.

Gods, he was so glad she was ok.

"Eta" He commanded, holding out the spoon. "Ya need to regain yar strength so yar líkami can heal"

Ravenously she bent down and lapped at the soupy morsels from the utensil in his hand. "Good girl" He said, the sounds rumbling inside his chest.

Golden tinged brown eyes looked up from the food. Even through the inflamed bruises on her face, she was illuminating. "Are you leaving?"

"No"

"But Eijiro…"

"He will be takin' the main force, I will remain behind with ya"

Blinking a few times, evidently allowing his words to filter through her mind. "Alpha, I can…"

"No, be quiet! This will not be ráða um! My decision is final!" He bellowed.

For a moment she looked as if she would put up a challenge. The injuries really had not affected her mind. Every second speaking with her further eased his mind. Her eyes fell again, her fingers tracing along themselves.

"What happened to me?"

He refilled the spoon, taking the time to sort through his thoughts.

"Ya were attacked"

"By who?" She pleaded.

"We will talk about this when ya have healed"

"Katsuki"

"Enough! I will have hlýðni"

Once again a small huff from her lips alleviated his deep concern for the days ahead. The defiance had not been beaten from her it seemed. She was still the same little Saxon bitch he had come to pine for.

"How long have I been unconscious?"

"Three days"

Pain registered on her face as she sighed.

"Did I… put up a good fight?"

Nothing could stop the smile and snigger from escaping him. "Vaskr" Was all he said, his voice saturated in pride.

Deceivingly the gardens made the property feel safe and warm. A little hand squeezed inside hers as they crossed the house boundary and entered the house. Tensions had been high since the little girl's second gender had revealed itself. And the young child, with her limited understanding, could feel it too.

"Chako, can't we play a little longer"

Her heart sank, again, they both felt the looming presence. "Arleigh, we must be in for dinner, but I will read you a story before bed my little love"

Voice cracking from the tiny human as her body shivered. "I can't help what I am"

Ochako stopped dead before entering the large door frame into the house. Her sister was too young to deal with this, not even six years old yet. Bending down so she was eye level, sweetly holding her arms tight and pulling her in. "No little love. You cannot help it. You are a wonderful person with such a beautiful soul"

"Chako, why can't I be an Omega? Like you…"

"Well, being an Omega isn't all it's cracked up to be. Trust me!"

"Why?"

"Because my life is predestined, you will get a say in who you marry, little love. Your life is yours"

"Married? A boy? Yucky"

Laughter squeezed its way up her throat and liberated itself. "Yes, boys!" She said, tickling her sister's stomach.

The little girl giggled and grabbed the older female's hands. "Do you think the doctor could be wrong? Could I be an Omega like you?"

It's complicated, was all she could think.

"It's not impossible little love. But I wished I was a Beta!" She said.

"Ochako! Get inside now! And bring that little disappointment with you" Her mother bellowed.

Rage bubbled under the surface of her skin, and acid rose into her oesophagus. To be so callous and cruel to a child was something she could never understand. She prayed to God silently, that she would never turn out like her mother.

Jaded and spiteful.

While she slept, most of the camp packed up and moved out, leaving only a handful of tents and men behind. The Alphas, shieldmaidens and most of the beta soldiers left under the control of Eijiro.
In her old life, she had come to realise Alphas held their power by a thread. Other stronger, more influential Alphas were waiting in the wing to take everything. But the Norse, they did not operate that way. Katsuki commanded complete obedience from his Alpha and pack. Through respect, not fear as her parents had.

"Alpha, did the other Omega leave with the pack?" She finally asked around the fire.

His eyes twitched and hit her gaze curiously. "Little Omega, ya really don't remember do ya?"

"Remember what?"

Heart pumped hard as her Alpha's red eyes watched her, moments before his mouth went to move.

"Perhaps I should þýða?" Ulmer asked.

Katsuki swung to look at his Beta pack member. He had been the Norse she saved after completing her raun. Had she not intervened, after seeing him eat the nightshade, he would have perished. Some tension was flicking between them both, the air palpable. Finally, he nodded in agreement.

"Ulmer? I don't understand?"

"Mærr, I was there when ya were attacked"

It had become so quiet the insects sound exploded around them. All eyes were on Ulmer, intrigued to hear how she had turned up beaten almost to death.

"What happened Ulmer? Please…"

His face softened at her request. "Of course, Mærr." He smiled. "Do ya remember trainin' with Alma?"

Ochako blinked, trying to retrieve memories from that day. Her brows must have frowned as she concentrated, because another Beta soldier piped up.

"If it doesn't come naturally Mærr, don't force it. láta laust"

"Ok, I'll try. Please, go on Ulmer"

"Ya had been sparring with Alma for hours when ya finally retired. As ya normally do, ya left for the meadow to collect yar plants and herbs. I overheard somethin' that made me suspicious."

Overwhelmed by hearing these things flooded her system. She had no memories. It scared her.

"The two Omega, Eira and Rana, they followed ya."

"What was suspicious?" She asked, almost too afraid to hear what he had to say.

"They were plannin' to kill ya, so I followed them, to protect ya"

Katsuki growled deeply, shuffling uncomfortably next to her. Ulmer closed his mouth and looked away from his Alpha.

"Please Katsuki…"

"Continue Ulmer"

A long pause was followed by Ulmer's voice filling the area. "I followed and watched as they stalked ya in the meadow. While ya were distracted they came up from behind. I wasn't quick enough" His voice broke. "I underestimated them Mærr, I'll never forgive myself"

A large lump had formed in her throat, tears threatening to overflow. Hearing this, seeing and hearing his pain was extremely traumatic. Images flashed across her eyes. Their faces washed with rage. The rock coming down on her.

"Ulmer…" She sobbed.

"If it wasn't for ya, Ulmer, she would be dead." Katsuki said beside her.

The other Norsemen murmured in agreement.

"They… They beat me with a rock, didn't they?"

Ulmer nodded. "Yes, they almost succeeded in killing ya. But I managed to get to Eira in time and I killed her"

Ochako swallowed hard. "And Rana? I stabbed her right?"

"Yes, ya destroyed her eye."

"She was banished," Katsuki said.

"You didn't kill her?" Ochako asked.

He sighed hard.

"The Alpha was persuaded by Eijiro to let her live," Ulmer explained.

"My pack has been testin' my authority. Both ya and Eijiro keeping me from enacting justice" Katsuki barked at Ulmer.

"I'm sorry my Alpha, I lost control"

"Hn."

Silence can be deafening, if it wasn't for the natural sounds and the fire. Her ears may have exploded from the tension.

"What will happen to her?"

"Why the fuck do ya care?" Katsuki yelled.

"I...I don't know"

"She will most likely perish on her own Mærr, her wound will likely seal her fate"
