I wake up in my old bed in Victors Village. I look around at my old room and realize I'm in my mother's house. Peeta is sitting in the chair across the room. He is looking at the floor.
"Peeta," I say. My voice is raspy and quiet but he looks up and sees me looking at him.
"Katniss!" he says. He runs over to me with tears falling from his eyes. "I thought I was going to lose you. You had blood in your mouth when we got here. You mother said you most likely had an ulcer somewhere and you were bleeding out. She told me you might not wake up."
"It's ok Peeta, I'm ok," I said.
"No you're not," he says. "You are sick and we are staying here until you are better."
"What about Daisy?" I ask. We need to go to the Capitol to get her. That's the whole reason we are here in the first place.
"She will be ok," Peeta says. "Snow won't kill her. She is too valuable to him."
"What do you mean?" How could she be valuable?
"If he kills her everyone will turn against him. He also needs her to get to you," he says. He is right. Snow won't kill Daisy. He is using her as bait to get to me. Now something else hits me.
"Peeta is the baby ok?" I say in panic.
"I don't know," he says. He looks down at the floor. "I didn't tell her about the baby."
"What do you mean you didn't tell her? She needs to know in case that's why I'm sick!" I say.
"She didn't give me a chance to," he says sadly. "Once we got here she took over and wouldn't even speak to me or Gale. I tried to over the past two days but she wouldn't stay in here long enough for me to say anything."
I can't be mad at him. He's been worried about me. I can't imagine what it's been like for him.
"How long was I asleep?" I ask.
"Three days," Peeta says. "I didn't leave this room once."
"What about Gale?"
"He left as soon as we got you here. He doesn't want to see you again." I can't help but cry. Gale hasn't spoken to me since before the Quell and he still doesn't ever want to see me again. I look up to see that my mother has come into the room.
"Katniss you're awake!" she says and rushes to my side. "I was so worried."
I give her a hug and she starts her exam.
"Honey I need you to stand," she says. She pulls back the cover and I see I'm just in my under clothes. My three month baby bump is visible and when my mother sees it her eyes light up.
"Katniss are you pregnant?" she asks.
"Yes," I say. "They told me in District 13,"
My mother just stood there for a while. No hug no act of joy. Instead, she walks over to Peeta and punches him in the face.
