The air was hot and dry, and Avdol loved it.
Egypt had been his home since his birth, Cairo specifically. Over the course of his life, he had seen Cairo change quite a bit. When he was born, Cairo had one of the smallest Quirked populations in the world, with only around 45% of people in the city having Quirks.
That was why he was so special. He had apparently been born with two.
His family had been approached by an English company called the "Speedwagon Foundation" on Avdol's 12th birthday when he had displayed a power that was not a related or feasible application of his Quirk, "Prophet".
It was fairly obvious that creating and controlling fire (and the weirdly buff birdman that only he could see) were not consistent with his Quirk, which allowed him to get a vague sense of someone's immediate future after having a conversation with them.
He had spent a few years in England with his family at the Speedwagon Foundation, letting them study him to see if they could determine why he had two Quirks. He and his family were eventually sent back to Egypt after the Foundation's barrage of tests revealed that he only had one Quirk factor.
That had left Magician's Red a mystery. He had named it after using his Quirk on himself, leading to a Tarot reading on himself, the card appearing before him. It felt right.
So while the original cause of his trip to England had been a bust, it wasn't a complete waste of time. It was there, in one of the Speedwagon Foundations testing chambers, that he met Joseph Joestar.
The man had strutted into the testing room with all the exaggerated swagger of a black teen, sat across from Avdol, and started to talk to him about his Quirk. Apparently, Joseph liked to have a little club full of precognitive people and had told his parents that Avdol basically had a guaranteed job at the Foundation in the future if he wanted it.
And while Avdol hadn't taken the man up on that offer (Yet, he might one day if he needs money), he did stay in contact with the man. Nowadays, he held Joseph Joestar in the highest regard, and considered him one of his closest friends.
So when Joseph had warned Avdol about a new threat, he had taken it very seriously. Apparently, there was an incredibly dangerous villain named DIO who had recently resurfaced.
And even if he didn't trust Joseph like he did, he trusted his Quirk. The conversation that he had with Joseph about DIO had set off all the red flags and alarms that his Quirk possessed. There was no doubt in Avdol's mind that DIO was dangerous.
"Ah, there you are. I've been waiting for you to return home, Mohammed Avdol…"
Avdol jumped at the voice, eyes whipping around the alleyway but seeing no-one, feeling both relaxed and incredibly anxious at the sound. It was like the voice was triggering both his flight or fight reactions, as well as making him at ease. It was unnatural.
He raised his arms, the soft red glow appearing around his body, visible to only him, as he let Magician's Red manifest, standing behind him. "Who's there! I can and will defend myself!"
There was silence for a moment before a soft chuckling echoed through the dark. "My dear friend, I have not come to fight you…"
And then a figure stepped out into the light, and Avdol froze, the breath being forced out of his lungs. Golden hair, and translucent, alabaster skin, and most of all, a dubious sensuality. And he was smiling at Avdol in a way that just screamed 'trustworthy.'
That was before he saw the tentacle-like things sprouting from the man's shoulders, inching closer to him by the second.
It became clear to Avdol who he was. This was the man. This was who Joseph had warned him about.
This was DIO.
After that realization, there was only fire, spreading all around him, and Avdol was running. He didn't know where he was going, he just knew that he couldn't stay near anyone who made him feel like his very soul was in danger.
So he ran.
And ran.
And didn't stop until his feet bled and the sun had risen in the sky.
He still wasn't sure if he was safe.
"If you're just here to socialize, then get out."
Izuku turned his head to see a… large yellow worm? Lying in the doorway to the classroom, behind Uraraka, who had been gushing about his 'super cool glowing!' He took a step backward and saw the face at the top of it, which had been hidden by the girl's leg.
"Yes sir!"
He moved quickly to his desk and sat down, the rest of the class taking their seats as well. After a few moments, the worm stood up and unzipped itself, revealing a very tired looking man in a black jumpsuit and white scarf.
"That took you too long. Next time will be quicker."
Izuku could tell that this guy meant business, especially as the man's vision moved over him and his face seemingly hardened, his eyes almost… glowing softly.
But as quickly as the glow had appeared it vanished, the man turning back to the class as a whole. "My name is Aizawa Shouta, your Homeroom teacher. We are heading down to the yard. Put your PE uniforms on and meet me down there. Be quick."
Izuku made sure that he was one of the first to arrive at the yard, not wanting to anger his teacher. The man already seemed to not like Izuku, for some reason or another. He would have to find out somehow later.
He was actually the third person to arrive at the grounds, the first being a boy with red and white hair, and the second being a girl that looked like she had a frog Quirk.
He guessed that they would probably be doing some intense exercises, probably to gauge their limits to see what they were working with, so after he arrived he started to do some warm-ups and stretches.
The UA PE uniform was light and comfortable, but also very strong. Even with his Hamon activated at around 50% intensity, the fabric was almost cool to the touch. It was also very flexible, allowing him to perform all of the stretches he needed to with ease.
The other students seemed to follow his lead on this, doing various warm-ups. When Izuku finished his, he made sure to adjust his hand wraps to a more comfortable position. He didn't want to cut off any circulation!
"Hmm. Not too bad. That only took 7 minutes. By the end of the term, we'll have it down to 3."
Izuku frowned as Aizawa paced back and forth for a moment, before speaking. "Bakugou, you're the best for this demonstration. Step into the circle and throw this ball as far as you can with your Quirk."
Bakugou nodded sharply, catching the ball that Aizawa threw at him. He rolled his shoulders, before swinging his arm and letting out a roar. "DIE!"
The ball shot forwards at great speed, disappearing from view. A few seconds later, Aizawa's phone beeped, showing the score 756.2m. "You will all be participating in some physical tests, and you are all allowed to use your Quirks. In fact, you are encouraged to do so at every opportunity."
The class started to mumble to each other before there was a gasp. "We get to use our Quirks! This should be fun!"
Izuku suddenly felt nauseous. His head felt like it was spinning, and he didn't know why. He looked around to see if it was someone using their Quirk when he saw their teacher's eyes lit up bright red.
Wait a second! That was Eraserhead! That's so cool! This must be what it felt like to not have his body adjusting automatically to the higher levels of oxygen! How cool was that? He hated it!
The red glow disappeared and the pressure on Izuku's brain dissipated, his breathing returning to normal. Aizawa seemed to notice his distress but continued on. "You think this is a game, do you? How about this. If you come last at the end of all these tests, I'm expelling you."
There was uproar at that. Izuku saw Uraraka ball up her fists. "That's not fair!"
Aizawa's eyes shifted to her instantly. "Not much in our society is fair, either. Villain attacks, natural disasters, they can happen anytime, anywhere. It's a hero's job to be adaptable and respond to these events."
He pulled up a holographic screen that had the words ' 50-meter-sprint' written on it, and started walking over to the track.
"You'll be going in pairs. Iida, Asui, you're going first."
"Yes sir!"
After all of the tests were complete, they were sent home.
Izuku didn't know what he'd been expecting, but to just be let go like that immediately and told to pick up their syllabuses surprised him. He reached the changing rooms at the same time as his classmates and got started.
He had just taken his shirt off when he saw a boy with spiky red hair walk up to him. What was his name again? Kirishimo? Damn, he was bad with names.
"Woah, man! You look like you were cut from stone!"
Izuku looked himself up and down and nodded. Hamon training did great things for the body, and Izuku's Hamon was stronger than anyone else's. Couple that with over 3 years of physical training, and Izuku knew that he was cut.
He laughed. "Says you! You literally are stone!"
Kirishima smacked his thigh as he bent over laughing, before standing back up and wrapping an arm around Izuku's shoulders. "You know it, man! Might not be a flashy Quirk, but I'm no stranger to taking a pounding."
Izuku just raised his eyebrow at the boy (who hadn't seemed to notice what he had said) and chuckled. "Flashy or not, you look like you can take some serious damage before you break. Do you know what your current maximum is?"
Kirishima shook his head. "Not in like, numbers or that jazz, but I can jump from a 5 story roof no problem! If I time it right. If I mess it up, I get really sore the next day."
Izuku laughed. "Better than the alternative I guess!"
Kirishima huffed, smiling. "Hell yea, bro!"
They chatted for a bit more as they walked to the front gate of the school, picking up a few other classmates along the way, like Uraraka and a pink-skinned girl who insisted he calls her Mina.
They reached the station a little while later, and Izuku's train was the first one to arrive. He waved goodbye to them as it started to shove off, before getting on his phone when they were out of sight.
He arrived back home a little while later, jumping right into his chores when he did. He had things he wanted to do, but Inko would probably kill him if he didn't do his chores. He might not be grounded anymore, but he was still on thin ice.
He finished them as quickly as he could and raced to his room, opening google and looking up one thing.
Dio Brando
"Shut up! I don't want to hear your damn whining!"
The girls he had just yelled at took a step back, and Jotaro turned from her and stormed off, ignoring the happy sighs they made. What was it about being yelled at that these girls liked? He hated getting yelled at.
"Jotaro Kujo, just the man I was looking for."
Jotaro turned slowly to see the bane of his existence, Demura Suezo, the schoolyard thug, and bully supreme. "I'm trying to go home. What the fuck do you want?"
Demura raised his hands like he wasn't here to start a fight. "Settle down, halfy, I'm just here to chat!"
Jotaro folded his arms. "Bullshit. I'll say it again, what the fuck do you want?"
Demura smiled, snapping his fingers. Jotaro hummed as two other guys stepped out from behind walls and trees, holding various simple weapons. "I heard that you stopped one of my boys who was collecting from Ishimoto yesterday."
Demura took a step closer, taking one hand out of his pocket and flicking his wrist, revealing a flip knife. "I'm getting real tired of hearing that you're interfering with my shit, halfy. So I figured, why let this problem keep happening when you can just put the mutt who's causing them down?"
Jotaro tensed as Demura lunged for him, stepped to the side, and let the knife fly past him, then elbowed the thug in the face. His other hand wrapped around Demura's wrist, and he was about to twist it when he was forced to duck under the swing of a pipe.
He was put on the defensive as he dodged attacks from three different people. It didn't help that they were using their Quirks. Jotaro, on the other hand, couldn't.
Because he didn't have one.
Not that they knew that.
With the swing of a baseball bat, one of his assailants overextended, allowing Jotaro to land a good, solid hit on the boy's face. He thought he saw his forearm turn purple for a second, but that must have been his imagination.
The boy in question was sent soaring back, crashing into a bush and laying there, unconscious. Jotaro didn't have much time to relax though, quickly dodging a projectile made of mud shot out from one of the thug's palms.
He ducked under another swing of a pipe and was about to counter when Demura swung at him with his knife again, causing him to have to bail, rolling to the side.
'God fucking damnit! Give me a break!'
Almost imperceptibly, Jotaro's vision turned black and white, like an old-timey movie. It lasted less than the blink of an eye though, so he chalked it up to adrenaline. That was probably why his chest hurt now, too.
It was a tough fight, but eventually, Demura and his thugs were on the ground, knocked out. Jotaro huffed and heaved as he rolled his shoulders, going over to where he dropped his bag and throwing it back over his shoulder.
He saw the group of girls he had yelled at beforehand looking at him with wide eyes, phones out, and obviously recording. Good, he could use that. "Oi! How much of that fight did you get?"
The girl at the front bowed. "I got all of it, Jotaro! Even Demura talking at the beginning! Do you want me to send it to you?"
Jotaro hummed, nodding. He wrote down his email on a piece of paper, handing it to her. "Send it to me. These shits are going to jail."
The girl nodded at him, her knees visibly shaking, before scurrying off with her friends. Jotaro turned and walked out the front gate of the school, heading back to his parents' house. Hopefully, Inko was there again, that would get his mum off his back long enough to hide his ripped clothing.
Hell, maybe that kid Grandma and Grandpa kept going on and on about would finally visit. Wait, no, he'd probably still be in school. Didn't Grandpa say something about UA? Must actually have some fight in him.
Jotaro hummed to himself as he walked down the path, not noticing the soft purple glow around his lower half, or the purple figure coming out of his back, looking at the world around them.
He didn't know it yet, but he wasn't as powerless as he thought he was.
