The place was quiet and peaceful. It was silent until a voice broke out.
"Huh? What do you mean?" Yang Chen voiced out as he was perplexed by what Lin Ruoxi said.
"I literally mean it. Marry me" repeated Lin Ruoxi a little impatiently. Never did she expect that one day she would degrade herself to propose to a man to marry her. That too to a mutton skewers seller!
Yang Chen was no retard and easily understood her intentions. Lin Ruoxi wanted to use him as a scapegoat. His current occupation was to cook, but here he was being planned to be cooked by someone else. It didn't taste good in his mouth.
Yang Chen now understood the glimpse of it. Lin Ruoxi already made a thorough research on him. Proposing to marry a mutton skewer just in a little time is very unlikely. His gut instinct told him that associating with this lady will land him in more trouble.
"See, Miss Lin, I came here with you thinking that you wanted to treat me as you're grateful for what I did. If that's what you want, then I'm done here. I will take my leave." Yang Chen said and stood up from the chair.
Lin Ruoxi felt that it didn't go according to her plan, and muttered: "Why?"
"What why?" asked Yang Che dubiously.
"Why didn't you accept to marry me?" Lin Ruoxi annoyingly shouted at him losing her composure. She was one of the leading businesswomen in the country. She was born with a silver spoon and is the CEO of Yu Lei International. She had looks, power, and everything she desired in her grip. And many men drooled over her.
Lin Ruoxi couldn't understand why this man rejected her request without even properly listening to her reason. Yang Chen was the only hope for her to get rid of her marriage arranged by her father Lin Kun. Hearing Yang Chen's rejection, she was baffled.
"Why should I?" Yang Chen retorted.
Lin Ruoxi was lost in thoughts for a bit. Deciding something, she fished her handbag and placed a bank card on the table, and said, "I'll buy you"
Yang Chen's impression of Lin Ruoxi further went down. 'She thinks she can buy anything with her money. First, I saved her and now she's talking business with me.' Yang Chen mentally scoffed.
"If not for me rescuing you, would you take the payment and still be content now?" asked Yang Chen as his face grew a little darker.
"You... I... I... You..." Lin Ruoxi's spotlessly white teeth bit on her soft and tender lips, tears of feeling wronged and suffering suddenly overflowed from her eyes.
Even seeing the tears, Yang Chen didn't back down.
"I saved you from a bunch of rogues on a whim. Instead of being grateful Now you want to buy me? Do I look like sales goods for you to buy? And dump me after use?"
What Yang Chen hated the most was being treated as a tool. He already had a deep scar in his heart during childhood. The incident dealt a heavy blow to him and it remained as a trauma for him.
And as time passed, he started to forget it but was unable. To ease his pain, he returned to Zhonghai city to live a peaceful life for a year. It showed a positive improvement these days. His pain was gradually lessening day by day. But now his rage started boiling once again.
Lin Ruoxi wanted to fend off her marriage using Yang Chen as a tool. If she approached in any other way, he might have given a thought. But her statement to buy people as things greatly infuriated him.
"Please... marry me. Without you, I have no other way." Lin Ruoxi had tears dripping down her face and her eyes turned a little lifeless but pleaded as she felt her heartache listening to Yang Chen's words but was unable to retort. What he said was true. She treated him just like an item. She was nothing but selfish.
Taking a look at Lin Ruoxi's somber face, Yang Chen finally relented. He might have overreacted but he didn't regret it.
"I accept" Yang Chen spoke.
Lin Ruoxi, who already had given up, hearing Yang Chen, her eyes started glimmering with hope.
"But I have 3 conditions. If you don't accept, then I will have to refuse" Yang Chen continued.
Lin Ruoxi was happy that Yang Chen finally accepted to marry her and wiped off her tears. She nodded her head heavily as no word came out of her mouth.
"I will accept all of your conditions" muttered Lin Ruoxi regaining her confidence once again. She didn't want to miss this opportunity. If she lost it, she would have to repent it later.
"First, Our marriage agreement will be valid only for a year. Second, You should not meddle in my personal life. Third, Once our agreement is over, it is final. There won't be any extension whatsoever." Yang Chen calmly stated his conditions.
Lin Ruoxi let out a sigh of relief. She thought he might ask something impossible which she can't afford. But hearing his conditions, she felt they are far too simple. What she didn't know was that in the future she will realize that accepting these conditions was her biggest regret, ever.
The same day, Lin Ruoxi and Yang Chen went together to the Civil Administration Bureau and got married. Lin Ruoxi was afraid Yang Chen might change his decision if delayed. She grew quite fearful of him now.
