Chapter 19: Regrouping and Training

Danny and Star left the OPS center together but not in the way Star wanted. They had passed his room and while frustrated, Star decided to show it to him. Sure, they had to find the others but she wanted her boyfriend back to normal ASAP.

Plus, if it did something to restore Danny's memory, it was worth a shot.

"This is your room. Recognize anything?..."Star asked.

"Kind of. I remember spending a lot of time here with Sam and Tucker. and sleeping..."Danny replied.

"Glad to see you remember that much..."Star sighed as she ran a hand through her hair in frustration again.

Something she has been feeling a lot today.

"Anything else?..."Star said.

"Not at the moment no, but I'm sure something will come to me..."Danny said.

Star decided to show him the place a little more for two reasons: to help him recover ALL of his memories and also, to see if he can remember their relationship, even just a tiny bit of it.

First things first, she decided to remind him of the little things, such as things he loved and were important to him, like his NASA stuff.

"Now, you do remember that model shuttle of yours, right?..." Star asked.

"Yeah... it cost me a lot..."Danny said..."Hmm...why does it look so beat up on one side?..."He asked, upon examining it.

Wasn't it supposed to be brand new or something?

Star thought of that date at the water park, where she had a surprise for Danny and all the chaos they dealt with that day.

"I got it fixed after Dash broke it..." She said.

"Then... why did it look like someone broke it?..." He asked.

"I... fell while carrying it... ACCIDENT!..." She went.

Danny looked to skeptically, but shrugged.

"Okay... I can buy that..." He said and the blonde looked relieved.

"Really?! Do you remember when it happened?..."Star asked eagerly, hoping he'd remember the water park and their date there.

Danny looked up, with a blank expression.

"Can't say I can..."He said and the blonde deflated there.

Star sighed loudly and bitterly.

"It's okay... just sit tight for now. I gotta go change..." She said, since her plan flopped and she didn't want the others to ask why she was in her cheer uniform at a time like this.

"This was a bust, even if he didn't mind what he saw. I'm running out of ideas..."Star thought. as she sent one last look to the amnesiac boy.

"I need to get you back, Danny-Boo..."She thought to herself before she sighed ad she left to go change in another room.

Danny said nothing as she went to go change, though a part of him felt a bit lonely without her. He couldn't explain it.

While Star was gone, Danny walked around his bedroom, looking at everything.

He saw the photos and something framed on his wall.

"Junior certified astronaut?..." He asked, smiling but paused... "Why does that sound cool to me?..."He wondered.

He'd ask later, he kept looking around. As he looked to his bed, a flash went through his mind.

A small person, a girl, at his bed and reading a comic. He didn't know why, but he liked what flashed through his mind. He was confused when the little girl's face looked much like his own. The memory left as soon as it came and Danny tried to ignore the head ache that came with it.

Still, there was something about that girl that is very familiar. The same way Jazz was familiar and it made him wonder.

"Do I have a little sister?..." He thought.

Jazz didn't show one in all the videos and pictures. Nor did she or anyone mention him having one when they talked about his family.

"Why wasn't she in the photographs? Why isn't she here?..." He asked himself.

He didn't know why, but he felt some strange desire to find this girl and make sure she's okay. He put that out of his head for now and focused on the photos.

He was curious why Star wasn't there.

"If we're as close as she says, where is she?...Then again, she did say we only recently became close..."He thought.

Danny stopped at a picture on the wall and stared. It was him when he was younger, his arms were around a smaller Tucker and Sam, they all looked to be around 12 or something. They were smiling and it looked like a birthday party.

His birthday party, it seems.

He wished he could remember that party. Sure, his sister showed him pictures and videos and he was starting to recall some things but he didn't remember everything. Including whether or not Star was telling the truth.

She couldn't actually be his girlfriend, could she?

That seemed hard to believe, but not for the only reason he thought.

"Is it possible that we are...I mean, she is really pretty but why would she want anything to do with a guy like me?..."He thought.

He didn't think he was ugly, but not handsome enough for someone like her. Sure, he somehow seem to attract Valerie and Colette(unfortunately) but still...

Could they possible be-

"Danny, I'm back..." Star called, no longer in her cheer-leading uniform, getting his attention.

"Oh... hi. Es-Star. Is this... my birthday or something?..."Danny asked as he pointed to the picture.

Star started looking at the picture and smiled softly.

"You're so cute in this picture..."She told him and it made the boy blushed.

He knew that they only recently become close, according to her but still, he had to ask.

"Where were you in this?..." He asked, just to be sure.

He saw her smile dropped.

"I wasn't there... I didn't know you that well back then..." She said.

Seeing the sad look on her face, he decided to change the subject. To the OTHER thing he was curious about.

"Do I... have a little sister?..."He asked

Star was surprised but had a hunch of what..or rather who he might be remembering now.

"No... not exactly..."She said gently.

"Then... why do I have a sort of memory of a little girl in my room who looks like me?..." He asked.

Star knew her hunch was right and decided to answer.

"Her name is Danielle... she's... not your sister... sort of..." She whispered.

Danny heard her and raised a brow at that.

"Sort of?..."He asked and Star wondered if she should tell him about the cloning thing.

No, it's too much information and he might have trouble accepting it. I mean, he finds it hard to believe that they are a couple, so who knows how'd he'd react to something like that. It has to be explained carefully.

"She's a...relative of yours, yes. The point is... you two are close..."Star said honestly.

Danny heard this and frowned, as he felt bummed again.

"Someone else I've forgotten?..."He said, sounding depressed.

Star walked over to Danny, putting her arm around him.

"Even with his memory gone, he really cares for Danielle... I can tell he's sad to not remember her..."She thought, feeling sympathetic.

"You'll get all your memories back. I promise..." Star said

"I hope so, Star..."Danny said.

Star frowned but sighed.

"At least, he remembers my name now..."She thought

That was progress.

"Lets go find the others..."Star said.

"Okay..."Danny said.

Both of them walked downstairs together, Star still talking and hoping to stir his memories.

"I have to get you back, and hope you forgive me..."She thought as she glanced at him once more.

Star sighed.

While it's possible he'll remember their relationship in time, that was time they can't wait for. Amity Park needs him and Star does too.

Very much.

Later

After a few minutes, Danny and Star came downstairs. The two talked as much as they could, but not much changed. Star still felt frustrated by the slow progress while Danny was about the same.

His other friends and sister were waiting in the living room and saw them coming.

"How you doing, Danny?..."Jazz asked.

He sent her an unsure look but nodded.

"Better! I'm starting to remember more stuff..."Danny said optimistically.

"Not everything..."Star muttered with her arms crossed.

She noticed the glare that Danny sent her, having heard her.

"I'm just saying..."She said and Danny sighed.

"Look, can we not talk about this now?..."Danny asked, wanting to change the subject

"Fine. For now..." Star said.

Yes, she is trying to be patient here. But she is only human and a teenager. Can you blame her for feeling frustrated?

The ghost boy realized he was hungry as his stomach grumbled.

"So, do we have any food?..." Danny asked.

"Yeah... let's see if Dad didn't eat all the spaghetti from last night..." Jazz said.

As Danny went to the kitchen, the rest approached Star.

"Really? How's he doing?..."Tucker asked.

"Eh, little sketchy in some areas, particularly relationships..."Star said the last part bitterly.

Sam sighed.

"Relax, Star..."She said.

"Yeah, he needs to remember things on his own..."The red haired girl said.

"I know but...it's just so frustrating..."Star said, looking down.

Sam sent her a sympathetic look while Jazz came back with her brother. When Danny had walked over, he accidentally stepped on the remote.

"Uh oh..." Danny said as he pulled back... "Was that a slime cannon thing too?!..."He asked, panicking.

Thankfully, only the television turned on.

"No, that was a TV remove... thankfully..."Jazz said.

She already had to deal with goop once today. It was not fun.

Anyway, the television was turned on to Ghost Watch and they saw Lance Thunder on it and he looked bitter about something.

"Lance Thunder?..."Star asked

"Lance Thunder?..."Danny said and Star looked annoyed now.

"How did you remember his name?!..."Star asked, sounding ticked.

Despite his amnesia, Danny rolled his eyes.

"You just said it..."He pointed out.

Star's mad look was soon replaced with a sheepish one.

"Oh, right. Heh..."She said in an embarrassed tone.

The rest gave a head shake and went back to what was going on.

"For the last time , I'm a weatherman, not a on screen report-..."He stopped when he saw that he was live.

All of them but Danny rolled their eyes. This is the third time this week alone he's complained about his job and once again, he's not gonna make do on his promise of quitting.

He never does.

"Don't they have anyone else?..." Tucker said.

"If they do, they're probably too afraid to do their job..." Jazz said, not liking this and feeling bad for the weatherman.

Sam rolled her eyes and raised the volume in order to hear the new report.

"This is Lance Thunder and Amity Park is overrun by ghosts..." The weatherman turned reporter said... "Terror on the streets and with no Danny Phantom in sight..."He added as the screen then showed a bunch of ghosts causing all sorts of trouble around town.

"Oh crud..." Sam went as she saw the on-screen chaos.

"Not good..." Tucker said with dread.

Things got worse as more ghosts appeared, freaking out the weatherman as they grouped up around him. The man shook intensely with fear.

"That can't be good..." Sam said and the others nodded.

"This is Lance Thunder saying...RUN FOR YOUR LIVES!..."He yelled as he was attacked by a large blob-like ghost.

"RUN!..." The cameraman shouted as he dropped his camera.

"I QUIT! ..."He yelled as more ghosts came before static was shown.

With that, everyone looked to Danny. They were hoping seeing ghosts cause trouble would stir his memories. It looked like he was worried for people but he didn't totally remember that they were HIS responsibility.

They saw him clenching his fists, they were hoping he was remembering. They hoped he's going to remember his foes, his powers and his battle cry.

That did not happen. Danny didn't look brave or determined. he didn't look like he was going to fly into battle, he looked ready to scream his lungs out or run away.

That is not what they wanted.

"Those ghosts are dangerous..."Danny said, still horrified but what he just saw on the TV

"Yeah... and people need help before someone gets hurt..."Tucker said, explaining the seriousness of the situation.

Danny looked alarmed and even gasped.

"Oh man, we should call someone..."Danny said, only for the others to send him a exasperated look.

"We are the someone! Remember..."Star said..."You're Danny Phantom..."She said.

"Oh, right ...right..." Danny said, looking at his hands.

He felt he had some idea what to do. Then he wondered out loud an idea to jog his memory. He had to do something to try and change into this Danny Phantom. He decided to try something. What he thought would work.

It was close, but not close enough.

"Danny Phantom!..." He shouted, looking up like he expected something to happen

It didn't.

"Uh, is that not how I power up?..."He asked and the others shook their heads.

"We'll have to fill you in on the way..." Sam said.

"On the way? To where?..." Star asked.

"Isn't it obvious?..."Sam asked as she pointed outside.

It took Star a moment before her displeasure was clear.

"No!..." She shouted

"YES!..." Sam said insistingly

"NO!..." Star argued.

"We have to go! NOW!..."Sam said urgently.

"And do what?! Just hope his memory kicks in?! Danny still barely knows about his powers!..."Star said, not wanting to risk him getting hurt,

"The more time we are here, the more ghosts are out causing trouble!..."Sam argued.

"I know but I am NOT going to let my boyfriend...who still doesn't remember me yet...to go there without at least knowing how to handle it..."Star argued.

"You know she's right, Sam..." Jazz said.

Sam looked to Jazz and groaned. She knew they were right but the longer they waited the more the city needed him.

"Okay... I get your point. But we need Danny Phantom!..." Sam argued again.

Although Star knew she was right, it was a risk to let him go without knowing what he's getting into.

"It's a risk even when he doesn't have amnesia..." Star thought

She tried to think of some compromise.

"Can't we at least put him in some ghost hunting armor?..."Star said.

"We don't have armor like that! That's Valerie's thing..." Sam pointed out dryly.

"What about the Fenton Peeler armor? Heck, we could at the least give him a crash course!..." Star said.

"We don't have time..."The goth said.

"Then we'll have to go as fast as we can!..." Star said.

"What do you want us to do? Teach him how to go ghost?..." Sam asked.

"Better than letting him go without any preparation!..."The blonde argued.

Sam looked ready to keep arguing, but Jazz and Tucker got in her way. Normally, they wouldn't want to get involved in their argument but this is getting out of hand.

"Cool it, you two..."Jazz said.

"Yeah, let's save the fighting for the bad guys..."Tucker said.

The last thing they needed on top of everything else was for Sam and Star to relapse into old patterns. This was not the time for that. Still, Sam remained stubborn

"Amity Park needs Danny Phantom.!.." The goth said.

"They need him alive!..." Star repeated..."If we send him out now, he's going to get hurt!..."She yelled, causing the boy to flinch.

"My memory's not good but my hearing still works!..."He said but was ignored.

Sam was going to argue again, only foe Tucker to speak up next.

"Star's right Sam. Besides, we don't wanna risk Danny firing ghost blasts from his butt again..."Tucker said.

Star heard this and did a double take.

"Wait, what?..."Star said.

"What?..."Danny, who also heard that, said the same thing in a confused tone.

Even Jazz raised a brow upon hearing this. Sam dragged her hand down her face.

"Long story..."The goth girl said.

"One we can hopefully fill you in later..." Tucker said.

Despite the tense situation, Star could not stop herself from chuckling as she glanced at the boy who looked lost.

"We done?..." Sam cut through the funny moment, wanting to get back on subject.

The teens nodded as they put on stern faces.

"Then, let's get to work..."Star said.

A little later

They had brought Danny down to the lab, which was now hooked up with his training equipment, in order to do a quick crash course on ghost fighting. Danny looked around, this place was familiar to him. He felt like he had spent a lot of time here but he didn't remember all of the details.

Just that these must be useful.

"What are we here for?..."Danny asked as he looked around the area.

"To fight, of course..."Tucker said.

The ghost boy stared at the techno-geek in shock. Of all the things to hear, that was last on the list.

"But I don't know how to fight..." Danny said.

"Of course you can fight, as we said, you just forgot..."Star said.

"But we'll refresh your memory..."Tucker said as he pressed a button and the training began.

Targets appeared behind the shelves and rings came out of the ceiling.

"Cool!..."Danny said at the sight of them.

He remembered being in here, the time it took to improve himself and get better than someone. He can't remember who, but can somehow feel it's a bad person, someone who was very bad news. He's sure he'll remember who that is at some point. He decided this refresher course was more important right now.

Meanwhile, someone noticed something about the targets. It was Jazz, who frowned at one in particular with a hole on it.

"Why is there a broken target that's a cutout of me?..." She asked, sounding annoyed.

Danny blinked, not remembering anything about that while Star shrugged.

"Don't look at me, this must have been from before the island..." Star said.

Sam and Tucker smiled sheepishly at the glaring big sister before Danny caught their attention.

"Guys? Hey! Superhero with amnesia, remember?..." He asked.

"Sorry, little brother..." Jazz said nicely before glaring at his sheepish friends. She would talk about this later.

Danny rolled his eyes. That's when he noticed a bummed out looking Star.

He hated seeing that look on her face. Sure, she tried to busy herself with preparing the training course, but still, Danny did not forget their conversation or that cheer-leading uniform she wore in an attempt to get him to remember something good about her. The ghost boy blushed at the memory.

"She looked... wow!..." He thought before he shook his head.

Now is NOT the time to think about that sort of thing. Still something made him speak up when he looked at her again.

"How's it going over there?..."Danny asked.

"Pretty good..."Star said, still a little bummed that her earlier attempts failed but she is not giving up.

First thing is first, they need Danny to understand his powers again. Star chose to put her feelings aside for now. All that mattered now is getting Amity Park's half-ghost superhero back..

The city needs him. They all needed Danny Phantom. They need him now and he had to be ready for anything. So, Star continued working until it was all ready.

"All set..."Star said as the training course was now activated, ready to use.

Danny gulped as he looked Star and the others.

"Are you sure I can do this?..." Danny asked and his friends nodded reassuringly.

"You got this..." Sam said.

"Just don't over do it..." Jazz added.

"Okay..."Danny said ad he lowered his shoulders and started to relax as he nodded to them.

"That's it, just take it slow, Danny. Nothing to worry about, you're among friends..."Star said as Danny began practicing the basics of his powers.

"So... how do I... transform or whatever? Is there a thing I hold or something?..." The ghost boy asked.

"Just concentrate, feel the power inside of you..." Star instructed, recalling the time she briefly had his powers.

"Okay..." He said as he did what was told.

Danny closed his eyes. Doing what Star said to do, Danny could feel it this power. Just like she said. That's when he felt something, like water washing over him. Slowly, a pair of rings appeared and Danny transformed into his ghostly form.

The ghostly boy looked amazed.

"Hey, it worked!..." Danny cheered as the others smiled in relief.

They didn't say it but they were worried that the nanobots might have affected his brains even more. Mainly his motor skills or basic functions. There was no telling what damage those bots could do. Thankfully so far, he was coherent and listening to them. So, that's a start.

Now for the training.

A little later

The training was going along slowly but surely. They watched as the ghostly boy did his best recollect his moves and relearn them.

"Now... try to hover off the ground..."Star said.

"How do I do that?..."Danny asked.

"Just think light thoughts..." Star said.

Danny did as instructed and closed his eyes. He flew up, his muscle memory guiding him as he did as instructed.

"Hey, I did it!..."Danny said, excited as he punched and kicked in the air.

Star smiled watching him

"It's working..."She thought.

Danny flipped through the air, already he liked flying. The ghost boy grinned as he found himself floating in the air. He was 5 feet off the floor and felt light as a feather. He wasn't at a hundred percent ready but he was getting there and looking great while doing it.

For the first time since he'd woken up in the infirmary, he really felt alive.

"I feel amazing!..." Danny said.

"And you look amazing..." Star said.

Danny blushed at that compliment, and at her smile.

"Heh, you know...her smile is... very pretty..." He thought for a moment, before he shook his head.

He didn't want to let himself get distracted by a pretty face. Even though he didn't feel right about acting the way he did just now.

"I guess I can at least trust her, even if I don't believe we're a couple. Plus, anyone's a trade up from Colette..."He thought.

Danny continued with his training. Eager to keep going.

One by one, the boy blasted and destroyed the targets, sparing the ones of allies, or just nice old ladies that need help crossing the street. All done, with a some what good pinpoint accuracy, the boy may have forgotten everything, but his body didn't.

"This is going better than expected..." Star said.

Sam and Tucker nodded.

While they were still worried for their best friend, they were glad that he seemed to be getting a better hang of his powers than the last time.

Meanwhile, Danny continued practicing his powers, finding himself flying through obstacles, blasting targets and lifting machinery that Jazz stated was over 25 ton. After a few more minutes, he landed. Still feeling excited and noticed how oddly not tired he was.

"I gotta admit, this is pretty cool. Like a video game but for real..."Danny said.

That's when he looked to his chest and got confused.

"Um...why is there a shape that looks like a D with a P inside on my chest?..." He asked, still looking confused.

"That's your logo. All superheroes need one..." Sam said.

"Plus, it'd be great for marketing..." Tucker added but the girls glared at him as Sam smacked him in the back of the head.

"For the last time, we're not selling action figures for profit!..." She said, having had this argument before.

"And I told you there's no patent on his logo and we aren't making action figures. We'd be making fan-made paraphernalia..." Tucker defended himself.

The girls rolled their eyes before they each raised a hand, ready to smack the boy again. Conceding to being out numbered, the boy huffed before they went back to important matters at hand.

"Alright, let's do this..." Danny said walking to the door.

Before Danny could go out, Star grabbed him by the hand, that caused him to raise a brow.

"Are you sure about this?..."Star asked, not wanting to risk him getting hurt.

"No, but you saw those things, those...monsters...ghosts!..."He said, looking worried.

"Danny..." Star sighed.

The ghostly boy took a breath and held his hand up.

The ghostly boy's worry became something else, something that gave his friends hope that the old Danny was coming back.

It was determination.

"I know... I'm risking it going in the state I'm in now... but someone needs to do something..." He said.

With all the ghosts causing trouble, he had to do something. He couldn't just sit back.

He just can't.

The ghost boy gave his friends a determined face. He had to do something, especially since he knows he can.

Now was the time for action, as the boy's mother would say.

"So, you want to go?..." Star asked.

"I have to go, Star..." The boy said.

"Already? You haven't even remembered all your powers..." Star reminded him.

Danny knew she had a point but he also knew that they didn't exactly have all day.

"What choice do I have?..." Danny asked, knowing they had to go and soon.

Sam heard this and was hopeful.

"So, you're really gonna do this?..." The goth girl asked.

"People need help and I can't just do nothing..."He said, looking down.

Star heard this and sighed.

She shouldn't be surprised by this. She knew better than anyone that Danny would leapt into battle to protect someone , even without powers or memory in this case.

It's how she began to fall in love, after all.

"So, how do I change back?..." He asked.

"You think about it, or something..." Sam said, not totally sure.

He always just did it.

"Sam's not wrong. Just think of a switch in your head and turn it off, that's what you once said it was like to me..."Star explained.

Danny nodded before he closed his eyes and tried this. Soon, the rings appeared and he returned to human form.

The ghost boy looked down and smiled.

"Whoa!..." He said.

"Okay, your re-learning is complete, time to go..." Sam said.

"Yeah, I know..." Danny said.

He'd like to keep training but Sam was right about needing to get out there and soon, before anyone got hurt.

"I know it's crazy but you can do it. And we're right behind you..."Star said as she reached out patted his shoulder.

"I-...WE have faith in you..."She quickly corrected.

Sam gave a nod with a look that said, "you're learning...good".

Danny didn't notice Sam's look, only Star's. He nodded before his eyes glowed determined.

"I'm going...to become ghostly!..."Danny declared.

The goth girl groaned as this brought back some bad memories. Specifically of the time she inadvertently got Desiree to wipe the ghost boy's memory. And that was tough as it was, though easier than now.

"Not again..."Sam said.

Where did that stupid thing come from and why did he keep saying it when he lost his memory?

The goth could have sworn it was like a concept. Or someone's attempt to be funny.

"I so wish I knew where that came from..." The goth girl groaned.

Star made a face at that before looking at Danny.

"Actually, it's "going ghost"..."Star said.

Danny looked at Star weirdly and waved off her opinion..

"Nah..."Danny said as he tried to change forms as instructed.

The rings flashed as they separated, revealing the familiar form of Danny Phantom. With glowing green eyes, the ghost boy was back, in a way.

"At least he's not freaking about his legs...again..." Sam thought.

Now wasn't time for another freak out. Though the ghost boy did look pleased to have mastered his transformation.

"I did it...I did it!..." Danny said, slowly rising into the air.

Danny had a grin on his face as he was in the air, before he landed on his butt.

"Ouch!..."He said as he got up and rubbed his sore tailbone.

Looks like flying was going to take some getting used to.

"Are you okay?..."Star asked, concern as Danny got up.

"I'm fine, I guess..."He said.

"We better get to catching ghosts..." Sam said.

She was ready to fight. Jazz, Tucker, and Star were ready to fight too.

"Alright..." The ghost boy said as he looked to his fists, shaking but there.

Danny Phantom and the rest of his team had to be ready.

They walked outside to see the town overrun with ghosts. Danny watched ghosts flying through the sky and to downtown.

"You ready, Danny?..." Star asked..

"No..." Danny said honestly before he got serious..."But someone's got to go..."He declared.

Star sent him a concern but accepting look and nodded. Still, she felt proud of him.

"That's my Danny Boo.."She thought before sighing.

"Time to go to work..."The blonde said.

Danny heard this and nodded. He saw the chaos and knew what he had to do.

"Well, here goes everything..."The ghost said as he took off into the sky., determined to do his role as a hero.

Oh boy.
