His head in his hands, Ed was on the verge of insanity. Olivia's heart had stopped again last night and although they'd managed to resuscitate her again, the doctor had made it clear that it wouldn't be third time lucky, it would be three strikes and Olivia would be out. She was clinging on to the world by the skin of her teeth.
Ed was praying, hoping against hope, that Olivia would escape from this, and they could both move on with their lives. He hoped that Olivia would come round soon and wake up especially for Noah.He had become attached to having Noah at his- and Aaron's. Not that he'd spent much time with his son in the last few days. Lucy had been working even harder than usual- Ed knew that his son deserved better but he knew he had to go with his heart and be with Olivia.
His heart. His heart didn't feel right anymore-he had known Olivia for a very long time but Ed knew that nothing would ever be complete without her. Olivia was the ying to his yang, the light in the dark, the other half of him- everything Ed needed. The only thing he needed that minute was to hear that Olivia was alive and well, and that this was all a bad dream.
Sadly it was true though, Ed was sat on an uncomfortable chair in the waiting room. The doctor had taken Olivia to theatre to try and repair the artery in her throat. If he could, then the blood circulating to her brain could get there without the ever present strain.Hhe hoped everything was going okay, but Ed knew that things were never that simple. The odds of Olivia coming through this unscathed were virtually impossible.
Over an hour later, Ed went into the recovery room. The doctor had managed to repair some of the damage to Olivia's throat, but nobody knew how bad she would be until she woke up. The anaesthetic should have been wearing off, so the damage was about to become all too apparent.
As soon as Ed saw Olivia lying on her back, with wires all over her body, he felt a lump rise in his throat. How had he let this happen? he had sworn to protect Olivia and keep her from harm. Brian had inflicted so much pain on her, it was a wonder Olivia was still around to tell the tale. Ed knew Olivia was brave- braver than he was. He didn't think he would have survived it all, and came out the other side.
Olivia's eyes opened warily, completely unable to remember where she was or what she was doing here. Then the image of Ed, looking at her with wide and teary eyes caused memories to come flooding back.
Brian hitting her. Her spleen being removed. Ed saving her. Telling Brian she loved Ed. Both of them telling each other. Brian again.
She couldn't speak yet, but she didn't need to. Tears forming in her eyes, she raised her hand weakly and Ed burst into tears. He ran over and took Olivia's hand, crying into Olivia's hair.
'I thought I'd lost you'
