Ghosts Of Days Gone By
Perfect

Summer walked into Vince's office because The Chairman had summoned her. She sat down in front of his desk, crossing one leg over the other. "You summoned me, Dad?"

"Yes I did."

"What is this about? We have a pay-per-view to run." Tonight was the Backlash pay-per-view. Summer was one of the people in charge of running the pay-per-view.

"I wanted to tell you that I don't think your services are needed here tonight. I think we'll be just fine without you."

Summer scoffed. "Dad, I'm the Executive Director of RAW. I have every right to be here."

"I am the Chairman and I say that you're not needed here tonight," Vince countered. "After what happened with Edge, I think you should take a vacation. Paid of course."

"You're kidding me? Talent gets hurt all the time. What happened with Edge was a freak accident."

"It was said to me that you didn't act very professional with Edge during the Edge versus Randy match taping. Apparently when he didn't want to be bothered, you wouldn't leave him alone. I thought you would be professional working with your ex, but it looks like I was wrong. I will not tolerate you harassing talent."

Summer was beside herself. She can't believe that Adam would tell Vince that Summer was harassing him. She only followed him into Trainer's room because she was concerned for him. She only wanted to check in on his well-being. She would hardly call that harassment.

"Do you have anything to say for yourself before you leave the building?"

"I have to leave? Seriously?"

Vince nodded. "Clearly, you can't handle the responsibility of your job position, so I want you to take some time off until you can get your act together."

"I can't believe this, Dad. I didn't harass Adam. I was concerned for his well-being. I don't know what you were told exactly, but it's straight up bullshit!" Summer exclaimed. "You want me to leave though? Fine." She got up from the seat and left Vince's office, slamming the door shut behind her.

Tears of frustration were welling up in her eyes. She can't believe she was accused of harassment and Vince actually believed the accusation. Did Vince not know her at all? Harassment is something she is totally against.

Going to the gorilla position and retrieving her purse, she bolted out of the Performance Center. A large hand was placed on her shoulder, making her stop in place. She turned around and saw Hunter standing behind her. He appeared to be confused with what was going on.

"Kiddo, what's going on? The pay-per-view is about start."

"You didn't hear? Dad is making me take time off." She let out a sniffle.

The Game's eyebrows furrowed. "Why? You haven't done anything wrong."

"Apparently I was accused of harassing Edge."

Hunter was soaking in the information that Summer just shared with him. "Why would Edge accuse you of harassment? And Vince actually believed that shit?"

"I don't know," Summer shrugged. "I can't believe Dad actually believed that I harassed Adam."

Hunter placed a hand on Summer's shoulder in an attempt to console her. "I'm sorry, Kiddo. Do you want me to go in there and talk to him?"

"It's okay. I appreciate it though."

"Well, what are you going to do with your time off? You're always welcome at NXT if you ever want to stop by."

"With airplane tickets being so cheap, I might take advantage of that and plan a trip to visit Nikki. I'll have to get in touch with her and make that happen."

"Maybe some time away will do you some good."

Summer nodded. "I think so."

"I'll talk to you later, Kiddo. I'll call you and let you know how much of a clusterfuck the show is behind the scenes."

Summer laughed. "I'll be looking forward to it." She and Hunter shared a quick hug before Summer went to her red 2019 Corvette ZR-1.

When she got inside her car, she decided to shoot Nikki a text message. To Nikki: Hey. So it's a long story, I'll tell you about it later, but I have some free time availaible, so I was hoping I could fly out and pay you a visit. Let me know what you think.

While she had a grip on her phone, she decided to log onto Twitter. She unblocked Adam so she could send him a DM.

SummerMcMahon: Harassed you? Really? You call someone who was checking in on you because they're concerned harassment? I didn't realize that you were so angry that you decided to tell my Dad such a lie. I don't know who you think you are, but thanks to you I am forced to take time off. You said you didn't want to see me, so I hope you're happy. By the way, good luck with your surgery. Unlike you: I have a conscience and I feel guilty that you got hurt and can't compete. So, goodbye Adam!

She wasn't going to block him again quite yet because she wanted to see if he would have a response to what she DM'd him.

Adam's eyes were scanning the DM that Summer sent him. He couldn't believe what he was reading. Summer had been accused of harassment towards him? By whom? Cause it certainly wasn't him.

At least Summer unblocked him for the time being. He had been disappointed whenever he got blocked on social media because he was hoping he could message her and apologize to her once again about how he treated her.

EdgeRatedR: I don't know what you're talking about Summer. I didn't accuse you of harassment. I was angry, but I know you were only concerned. I'm sorry for how I treated you. Whether you believe me or not, I do feel guilty about yelling at you and acting like a jackass. Sorry to hear that you have to take time off because of a false accusation. I can't believe Vince would believe something like that… considering I wasn't even the one who said anything and it involves you. He should get our side of the story.

The Rated R Superstar hit send. He hoped that Summer would believe him and also message him back.

Beth walked into the living room, looking at the perplexed look on Adam's face. "Are you okay?"

"Yeah." Lie.

"You sure?"

"Yeah. I'm just thinking about how the Backlash pay-per-view is tonight and how I got injured during my match." Another lie.

"I know, it sucks. I'm sure you and Randy put on a hell of a match though."

"I hope everyone thinks so. I would hate to know that I injured my triceps and it turns out that the match is a total flop."

"Yeah, especially since you worked so hard to get back into in-ring competition." Beth placed a hand on top of Adam's. "But, I'm one hundred percent sure that your match with Randy is going to be an instant classic."

"Thanks," Adam smiled.

Beth attempted to bend down and kiss Adam, but Adam prevented that from happening. "Babe, not now."

"Fine." She huffed and sat down on the couch. Ever since Adam and Summer started working alongside together again, The Rated R Superstar and The Glamazon haven't acted as Husband and Wife should. Hopefully that would all change soon.

Summer was sitting on the couch inside her Orlando Condo, reading a novel. She was changed into a black t-shirt and white and black striped pajamas pants and snuggled under a blanket. A cup of hot cocoa was placed on the tv tray nearby.

Her phone rang, startling her. She had a intrigued look at reading the Caller ID flashing PUNK. She accepted the call and put the phone to her ear. "Hello?"

"Summer McMahon! Long time, no talk."

Summer had to make sure that her ears were deceiving her. It couldn't be…. "Punk?"

"The one and only."

"What are you doing gracing my ears with your voice?"

"Bayley is friends with AJ. So Bayley told AJ about what went down with you and Vince. So, of course, AJ told me since I am her endearing husband and all."

Summer sighed. "News has gotten out that fast?"

"Apparently so. I was actually calling to see how you were doing? I was flabbergasted to hear that you were accused of harassment."

"I'm fucking peachy."

Punk chuckled at Summer's response. "I know Vince is out of his mind, but I find it hard to believe that he would believe that you were harassing someone and not even so much as get your side of the story or talk to some witnesses. If it was Stephanie, he would go out of his way to clear her name."

"I know. But, I'm not his pride and joy like Stephanie is."

"I can't fathom that. You have always been the coolest McMahon."

Summer smiled. "CM Punk is being so complimentary. I don't know how to react."

"It's no secret that you were my favorite out of the McMahon clan. I didn't trash you on live television; did I?"

"No."

"Okay then. Let's also not forget that we dated at one point, Lady."

"I can't forget that. You played a pivotal role in my life."

"Same here," Punk agreed. "You and me were what each other needed during that time."

Flashback

Summer was walking down the hallway when she spotted them. Adam and Beth were hugging each other and being all cute. Lucky for her, tonight was Beth's last night as an active member of the roster, she won't have to deal with seeing her around. She assumed that was why Adam was lingering backstage, The surprising part of it all: she didn't feel her heart break all over again at seeing the two of them being all lovey dovey in front of her.

Punk was walking towards her, dressed in his ring gear and a gray zip-up hoodie since it was chilly in the arena. "Whenever we leave, I need one of your massages. My back is killing me."

Summer nodded. "I got you."

"I can always count on you."

"Of course you can. That's the least I can do since I wasn't able to convince Dad to drop your feud with Ryback."

"Don't worry about it, Summer. You tried your best, I can't ask for anything more than that."

"I know, I feel terrible though," Summer frowned. "I hate that you're in constant pain and working with someone so stiff and green like Ryback doesn't help."

"You're literally the only one who has said anything to Vince. I appreciate you for that. Besides, it's not all bad, I'm on the receiving end of the best massages ever." He wiggled his eyebrows at her.

"You better know it, buddy," Summer teased. "As fun as this conversation has been, is there any way we can please go elsewhere? I'm tired of seeing the two lovebirds behind us." She pointed to Adam and Beth, who were standing not too far from them, talking to some people, her arm wrapped around his waist.

"Sure. Let's go to my dressing room." The WWE champion wrapped his arm around Summer. "Let's show them who the true best looking couple is." They walked towards his dressing room, passing Adam and Beth. Summer was beaming the whole trip to Punk's locker room. It felt nice to stick it to Adam for a change.

Punk opened the door first and walked inside and Summer followed behind. "That was great!" Summer exclaimed, closing the door behind her. "You know: I have never been so ecstatic about someone no longer being in the company. I'm terrible for that; aren't I?"

"No. She's the one who has been shitty to you."

"Yeah, from accusing me of stealing you from her to shacking up with my ex by putting thoughts in his head about how you and I were dating when we weren't at the time, I like to think we won't be sending each other Christmas cards."

Punk laughed. "I don't think so either."

"Can I say something and you not think I'm totally lame?"

"I'm still gonna think you're lame, Summer, but go ahead."

Summer stuck her tongue out at him. "It used to bother me endlessly when I saw Adam and Beth together, but now, it doesn't anymore. The sight of them does disgust me, but I don't feel that heartbreak that I did earlier in the year. I just really owe all of that to you. You helped me move on, so I am forever grateful."

"I'm not usually into sappy shit like that, but that's really great to hear." He placed his taped hands on her face and brought his lips to hers. "You have helped me out this year too. So, you're not totally lame, Summer."

"Good to know," Summer smiled. She placed her hands on his shoulders and quickly kissed him.

"When we get back on my bus and after you give me that much needed massage, we'll celebrate."

"I like that idea," Summer beamed. "I like that idea a lot." It would nice to celebrate the fact that her enemy would no longer be employed in her family's company. She wouldn't have to deal with seeing her and the man who broke her heart.

After talking to Punk for a while, which she admits she enjoyed, she logged onto Twitter to see that Adam had responded. She read his message and decided to respond.

SummerMcMahon: I want to believe you, Adam, I really do, but it's just hard to. Dad won't give me the time of day. At least you get your wish! I won't bother you ever again. Take care.

She contemplated on blocking him again, but decided against it. She was not going to go out of her way to interact with him in any way, shape, or form.

Her phone beeped and she saw she had a text message from Nikki. From Nikki: Hey! I'll call you tomorrow and you can tell me everything that happened. And yes, yes, yes! I would love it if you came to visit! We'll make arrangements tomorrow! *heart emoji*

Summer smiled at the text from her best friend. Maybe a trip far away would be exactly what the Doctor ordered.

To Nikki: Can't wait! *heart emoji*

Summer smiled when she saw Hunter calling. "Hey," Summer answered. "How did everything go?"

"It was crazy backstage. A lot of the superstars were asking where you were at so I had to explain to them what was going on."

"I bet that went smoothly."

"Not exactly. You were most definitely missed tonight."

"That's nice to hear, but unfortunately there's nothing I can do."

"You know what you can do though?"

"What's that?" Summer wondered.

"Enjoy your time off."

"I plan on doing just that."

"Alright, Kiddo. I'm not going to hold you up. If you need anything, just give me a call."

"Thanks, Hunter. I'll talk to you later." She laid her phone down on the tv tray and went back to reading her novel. It felt nice to know that some people liked having her around because her Father and her ex certainly didn't.

A/N: I know there's a lot of songs named "Perfect" but this is named after the Simple Plan song. :) I hope you all enjoy this chapter. Thanks for reading!
