Harry was waiting for Professor Lupin in the Transfiguration classroom with Professor McGonagall. Harry was wearing the Gryffindor quidditch jumper which used to belong to Sirius. Suddenly the fire flashed green and Remus came through the fireplace with a cough. "Professor!" shouted Harry, a bit too excitedly.
"Harry, if you insist on calling me Professor Lupin still, I shall have to start calling you Mr Potter."
Harry gave an embarrassed laugh then gave his new tutor a hug. Minerva excused herself to do her marking, before commenting "Mr Potter says you gave him this old jumper? I've told him he can wear it around the castle. I forgot what they used to look like," with a small smile.
"Right Harry, I take it you've read what I asked you to"
"Yes," the boy replied. He decided not to add in that he had finished reading it during dinner before running to this lesson. Remus taught Harry how to create powerful shield spells to stop particularly nasty hexes coming through. At the end, they sat down together to chat. He turned to Harry and asked "So, who's teaching Defence this year?"
"Professor Moody" he replied. Remus looked puzzled, so Harry added in "Mad eye Moody. You know, the ex-auror?"
"Has he told you his motto yet?"
"You mean constant vigilance?" asked Harry. Remus nodded with a laugh. "Professor Moody really knows his stuff. I know him from before you were born." Stated Remus.
"He showed us the unforgivable curses yesterday."
"Hmmm, normally for fifth years to study, but each teacher has their own way."
"Yeah, he got these spiders, then performed the curses one by one," stated Harry. Remus went white. "And what did you think of that?" he asked the boy tentatively.
"It was kind cool, I guess. But it was hard to watch. Especially the crucio. To watch the spider sat there twitching in pain." Harry stated.
"Professor…" started Harry.
"Yes, Mr Potter?" Interrupted Remus trying to get Harry to stop being so formal.
"Can I ask? When Professor Moody did the killing curse, there was a flash of green light. Whenever the dementors came near me last year, I heard screaming and saw a flash of green light."
"Yes, Harry, that was the light of the killing curse which killed your parents." He grabbed Harry into a tight hug, partly because he thought Harry may need it, but more for himself. When Remus finally released the boy from the hug, Harry said, "I have one more thing."
"Anything" replied Remus.
"You have to tell Sirius not to come back to Scotland. It's too dangerous."
"Harry, Sirius has always done what Sirius wants. He is worried for you. I am too. We want to be here for you."
"But it's too dangerous."
Remus put his hand on the boy's shoulder "We both love you and want to protect you. Let us do what we need to, so that you can focus on being a fourteen-year-old boy."
Harry looked at him and gave a little smile. Remus then set Harry some practice for next lesson – to ask Ron to hex him creatively while Harry practiced the shield charm.
