I had a lot of tries at last chapter. One possibility was Peter and Wanda having a heart to heart. It was scrapped because it didn't make sense, due to the symbiote making him an asshole. Another was the police issuing an arrest warrant for Spider-Man and Spider-Man was swinging away from shooting police. That was scrapped because it felt like things escalated too far too fast. The final possibility was the appearance of Spider-Slayer Mark 2. But I didn't feel like putting that in just yet. Maybe later. Why am I mentioning these deleted and alternate chapters? Because. Will they ever come up again? Probably not. Other than the Spider-Slayer. Also, this chapter skips to the next day, because every chapter I thought of had too much of Peter hanging out with the Avengers being nice, when he should steadily be becoming an asshole.
Song of the Chapter: Final Confrontation by Pete Anthony
I own nothing but the story.
Peter awoke to the sound of a cowbell the next morning. The symbiote screeched loudly and started going out of control. The cowbell stopped and Steve walked in holding the cowbell that was making so much noise.
"What's going on?" Steve asked him.
"It doesn't like loud noises," Peter said into his pillow as the symbiote started becoming clothing again. "Oh," Steve said. "Sorry."
"Why are you waking us up so early anyways?" Wanda said, her hair a mess. "It's 5:00 AM."
"We are going to have a little team-building exercise," Mr. Stark said, "Steve proposed it yesterday, and I thought 'Why not?'"
"What are we doing, exactly?" Mr. Banner said, coming out of his room and putting his glasses on. "We're going to go on a little morning run," Steve said. Everyone except Mr. Stark, Steve, and Vision groaned.
"Vision's just going to beat all of us," Clint said. Vision looked around. "If you prefer it, I could change my state to resemble that of a human's."
"What does that mean?" Sam asked.
"It means that he won't actually get tired, but he'll run like he's tired after running for however long a human could take," Mr. Stark said.
Everyone seemed to agree with that, but still weren't very happy at being woken up at 5:00 in the morning for a run. "Why not in, like, the afternoon?" Peter asked.
"Come on, it'll be fun," Steve said with an optimistic smile. "You know, that giddy optimism can get annoying," Natasha said.
"Everyone, get ready, we'll start in ten minutes!" Mr. Stark said. Everyone groaned, but did go to get ready. Peter went into his room and the symbiote changed into an outfit that was ideal for running. Then he put on his socks and shoes. He got a water bottle, filled it up, and waited for everyone else. When everyone else was ready, they went out to the compound's track and stretched. "You don't want to pull anything," Steve said.
"Yeah, we all know how important stretching is," Peter said.
When everyone was ready, Mr. Stark used his nanotech to form the Iron Man glove. "Alright, 3, 2, 1, go!"
Everyone started running, and Peter took off like a bullet. He wasn't sure how well he would do without it, but with the symbiote enhancing everything about him, he was able to easily keep the lead. After one lap, he relaxed at the finish line. When Steve got to the line, he said "What're you doing?" Peter looked at him. "Wait, we have to do more?" Steve chuckled. "We're going to keep going until there's only one person left running." Peter groaned and started running again. Steve was able to keep up with him for a few seconds, but Peter quickly regained the lead. He looked back to see how everyone else was doing. In last place was Mr. Stark, who, while he wasn't doing too bad, was pretty tired. Mr. Banner was in front of him. He didn't get out much, but sometimes being the Hulk must have left him a bit stronger than he would've been without him. In front of Mr. Banner was Wanda, who was looking pretty tired. In front of her was Vision, who seemed to be doing a good job of keeping it fair for everyone. In front of Vision was Clint, who didn't seem to be doing bad at all. In front of him was Natasha, who was doing pretty good, and catching up to the person in front of her, Bucky, who was doing very well. Sam was in front of him, and he was used to going on runs with Steve, so he was doing very good. Behind Peter was Steve, who didn't seem to be catching up, though he tried.
Peter kept running around the track. The first one to stop was Mr. Stark, who went to the benches drenched in sweat after about forty-five minutes. Nobody dropped out for about fifteen minutes, before Mr. Banner joined him. Wanda tried as hard as she could to keep going, but eventually gave out and sat down. Vision joined her shortly after. Another thirty minutes went by, and Clint joined the slowly increasing group. Ten minutes went by, and Natasha sat down as well. Bucky stopped a couple minutes after.
There were only three left on the track. Sam, Steve, and Peter. Sam didn't want to give up. He always aimed to catch up to whoever was in the lead, and while that was normally Steve, at the moment it was Peter, and Peter could tell he was willing to go until he passed out. And while that didn't happen, he did collapse on his knees. He crawled over to the bench and relaxed after running for so long. "Beat him, Steve!" he shouted out after a couple of minutes of catching his breath.
"You can do it, Дшееду Ызшвук!" Natasha called out.
Peter was getting a bit tired now, but he kept on going. They passed the finish line, and Sam said "Alright, let's call this one the final lap, alright?"
They nodded, but Peter wasn't sure if they could tell. Peter's body was slowly giving out, and Steve suddenly ran faster, catching up to him. He passed him, and held the lead for a few seconds as Sam, Wanda, and Bucky cheered.
Peter was slowly falling behind, and Steve was almost at the finish line. Peter then started running like crazy and quickly ran in front of Steve, crossing the finish line. Everyone on Peter's side cheered, and Peter said "Can I go now?"
"I'm hurt, Pete, why do you want to leave us?" Mr. Stark said.
"I just want to go out on patrol."
Mr. Stark was about to answer, but Peter changed into his suit and started running to find the nearest building to swing from. "Hey! I didn't say you could go!" Mr. Stark shouted after him. Peter looked back. "I was going to wait for permission, but then I thought … nah."
He continued running and found the building, shooting a web and swinging.
Maybe it's a bit of a short chapter. I don't know. It isn't even really necessary in the grand scheme of things. But it was fun to write, so yeah.
