Quite the Catch

Chapter 19

1 Year Later…(Again)

Marcus stood nervously at the altar, resisting the urge to yank on the collar of his dress robes, as well as concealing his nervousness. Today was the day, the day that he would finally marry the love of his life and best friend, Hermione Granger. It still seemed to surreal to him that of all the wizards she could have chosen, she had chosen him, and had long before they knew they had feelings for each other. He had been nervous when he had proposed just six months ago. It seemed silly that he was, as it was obvious Hermione wouldn't have said 'no'—even Adrian had scolded him for being nervous—but he had been all the same. And like Adrian and everyone else had told him when he announced he was planning to propose to his girlfriend, Hermione had said 'yes'.

The moment Hermione had accepted to be his wife, the past six months seemed to fly by. The wedding planning was handled by their friends and family (Hermione's parents), though made sure to take into account what the bride and groom wanted. They decided to have the wedding ceremony on the grounds of Flint Manor, and it was going to be officiated by the Minister, Kingsley Shacklebolt. As for a honeymoon, Marcus was keeping it a secret from his love, wanting to surprise her.

His hiding of his nerves must not have been very good, because Adrian lightly jabbed his arm from his spot next to him as best man, and whispered, "Stop fidgeting."

"I can't help it," Marcus murmured in return. "I'm just really nervous. I mean, this is a big step for me and Hermione. What if she is having second thoughts? What if she realizes I'm no good and doesn't want me as a husband? I mean, I'm not worthy of that beautiful, amazing witch."

Adrian gave his friend a deadpan look before saying, "Look mate, I've never seen you so crazy about a witch before. And Hermione is just as crazy about you. You love her and she loves you, just the way you are. Nothing is ever going to change that. She loves you and always has; she wouldn't be marrying you if she didn't."

Marcus took in Adrian's words before nodding and giving him a smile. "Thanks Adrian."

Just then, music started playing and they turned their attention to the aisle where a pair of young girls came skipping down the aisle and dropping a mix of rose and daffodil petals. He watched Draco and Luna come down the aisle together, as well as Daphne and Potter, before one finally Hermione's maid-of-honor came walking down the aisle. The maid-of-honor was Hermione's Muggle cousin named Alice Granger, and the two of them were close growing up. She favored his fiancé a lot, but her hair was a darker shade of brown and pin-straight rather than curly. Adrian fancied her, but Alice showed no interest in him, though that didn't keep the bloke from trying to woo her. Marcus had been surprised she hadn't chosen the Weaslette, but Hermione had said that though they were friends again, they would never be as close as they were, nor fully trust her ever again.

Finally, with a switch of music, his beautiful bride appeared at the opposite end of the aisle on the arm of her father. As everyone stood to watch Hermione be walked down the aisle to him, Marcus couldn't take his eyes off her. Hermione was just so beautiful! She was wearing a simple yet elegant off-white wedding gown with lace half sleeves, a lace pattern down the bodice and a bit onto the long skirt. It had a semi-low back and the train flowed behind her at least ten feet. Her curly brown hair was pinned up in chignon with pearls braided into her hair, and a beautiful veil with the same lace pattern on it, a small bit of it hanging in front of her face, and the rest trailing behind her, magically floating behind her a little. His bride held in her hand a bouquet of daffodils, her favorite flower and a symbol of a new beginning. He couldn't help but smile at her as she came closer to him, her mocha brown eyes shining as she smiled at him with happiness and love.

Before he knew it, they were holding hands and Shacklebolt was officiating their wedding ceremony. Marcus honestly was not even paying attention to what was happening around him. All he could focus on was Hermione, his beautiful, sweet, loving Hermione. It was really happening; she was about to become his wife. He has seen her mouth moving, answering whatever question Shacklebolt had asked, and he too answered as well, though he had no idea what he said. They exchanged rings, her ring a lovely Manik stone surrounded by diamonds and blue topazes in a gold band. Her opal ring was still on her finger, though she had told him she'd wear it on her other hand after they were married.

Shacklebolt's booming voice startled Marcus when he finally said, "By the power vested in me, I Kingsley Shacklebolt, Minister of Magic, hear by pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss the bride, Mr. Flint."

Marcus couldn't have waited longer for those words. Taking Hermione's face in his hands, Marcus grinned down at her before taking her lips with his own, kissing her passionately while everyone clapped and cheered for them. Breaking the kiss, he smiled as he murmured, "Now you are mine for good."

Hermione giggled and replied softly, "I've always been yours."

They kissed once more before turning to face their guests, Alice handing her cousin back her bouquet of daffodils. As they did, Shacklebolt announced, "Everyone gathered today, may I present to you for the first time, Mr. and Mrs., or Lord and Lady Marcus Augustus Flint!"

"Augustus?" Adrian couldn't help but laugh.

"Stuff it, Pucey," Marcus replied before walking with his new wife down the aisle and back to their home where their reception was held. Their guests followed them as Daphne went about starting the reception, many of them congratulating them on their marriage and bestowing hugs upon them. As they walked to the large dining room, Marcus pulled Hermione to an empty corridor for a moment before wrapping his arms around her and holding her close.

Hugging him in return, Hermione said in awe, "We're married now. We are finally married. It almost feels like a dream."

Marcus grinned in response, knowing just how she felt. "It does, doesn't it? But it's real and I can finally call you Hermione Flint."

Hermione beamed up at him and kissed him sweetly before saying, "And I'm honored to have your name."

They kissed each other again, and would have kept doing so, had it not been for Draco and Luna—newly engaged—finding them and making them join everyone for their wedding reception. The newly married couple kissed once more before finally heading for the dining room to join their guests and begin the reception. Even so, they couldn't wait for their honeymoon to officially start their married lives together. As they sat and ate, listening to toasts from the best man and maid-of-honor, Marcus couldn't help but continue to gaze upon his beautiful wife. Hermione was just so amazing to him, everything he could ever want and ask for in a witch.

He had known about her in school, knew who she was and what she looked like, but to have her drop into his life—quite literally—so unexpectedly had been a large shift in his life. And for her to have a permanent place in his life, all it did was make his dull life so much more than it once was. She was perfect to him; she was everything to him. There was no way he could picture his life without her anymore. He honestly knew he wouldn't have given her another look back at Hogwarts had she never fallen from the Astronomy Tower. But Adrian had been correct saying she would grow into her looks and become quite the catch one day. She had, and Marcus was glad that he was the one to catch her. But Hermione was much more than her looks. She was intelligent, she was witty, she was sweet, she was kind, she was ambitious, she was brave, and she was simply Hermione. He had her love, and she had his, and they always would for the rest of their lives.
