The War of the Broken Blade

Chapter one

The year is 476.M37, many years have gone past since the now named Flaming Blades arrived at Dasont to find it under siege, yet they still stand strong in the Caligari sector as a beacon of light in that dim corner of the galaxy. Many have come and gone from the chapter yet a few still remain who fought to protect Dasont, such as Chapter Master Hairo, Captain Felion, Andronius now interred in the chapters dreadnought. Yet one of these veterans was not in a good mood, Linad Parion, 5th captain of the Flaming Blades was sitting in his room aboard the Battle barge Heretics Cleansing thinking on how he would proceed with his mission. Linad had been dispatched to a planet called Tylon to search for signs of a Chaos Cult, with him he had his 5th company and the relatively new 11th company, the Cleansers, because the inquisition was about as petty as a child the chapter needed to do inquisition work itself, and Tylon had been having rumors about a cult for a while.

Linad was taken from his thoughts when a chapter serf knocked on the door. "Come in." Linad said in his gruff voice, the chapter self entered the room and said. "My lord, I'm here to inform you that we are soon to exit the warp and arrive at the planet Tylon." The serf then left the room at Linad's behest, he then got up and got ready to go down to the surface to find out if this Chaos cult was real or not, Linad had always hated this job when it was given to him and as he was the lowest of all the battle company captains he was usually the one to have to do it. Back during the war for Dasont Linad had been the leader of the companies who pushed east from Morlana, he had been a ruthless and effective commander who crushed each and every band of traitors in his path, he had also accepted the Iron Rage among his company, seeing that it could be quite useful, but now he was here hunting for a group of hiding cowards, Linad was not happy.

An hour later Linad was in his Thunderhawk heading down to the capital of Tylon, the city of Jenkali, along with the captain of the Cleansers, Denali Cartilon, it was standard procedure when the Flaming Blades were hunting hidden cults that the captains would go to the surface to learn the general situation of the planet so that they can better asses the situation. Soon the Thunderhawk was nearing Jenkali and Linad went to the cockpit to see the city before they landed, Tylon was a world of mountains and wetlands with much of the surface covered in marshes with solid land being high up in mountains, Jenkali was nestled into the side of one of these such mountain ranges with the spires of the mountains reaching up into the sky like spikes. Soon the Thunderhawk reached the spaceport and touched down with the door opening in the back, Linad, Denali, and their retinue of marines walked out of the Thunderhawk and towards a group of guards and other menials around the planetary governor of Tylon. The governor nodded to the space marines as they approached and said. "Greetings my lords, I had received news or your arrival a couple hours ago, am I to believe you are here on urgent business?" Denali responded by saying. "One of the most urgent kinds I'm afraid." The governor understood what was being implied and motioned for the space marines to follow as they all boarded a large civilian transport to return to the governors palace. Linad never munched liked Denali, he was a recruit from among the inquisition, in their petty quest to make their lives hell they had made sure that Denali would be made a marine and put as captain of the 11th to be their eyes and ears in the Flaming Blades, there was no questioning his conviction to the imperium, but there was also no argument to where his loyalties lay within the imperium.

The governors palace was rather stark compared to most governors palace's which were usually overly flashy, this one was built with purpose as to be a palace and fortress, which showed the people who claimed governorship of this region knew there would most likely be need for a fortified position of power. Eventually they reached the doors of the palace and got off the vehicle and entered the building, the inside was as stark as the outside, they were led through the twisting halls of the palace which were clearly built with defense in mind, they soon found themselves at the governors office which was a medium sized square room with small windows on the opposite side from the door, the rest of the room was taken up with various curiosities and other objects, as well as a desk in the center of the medium sized room with paperwork on it. The governor went and sat down at his desk and looked at Linad and Denali, who were the only two in the room with the governor and asked. "What is it thats wrong with my world?" Linad was a little shocked with the emotion behind that simple sentence, it was clear this man did care for his world and his people, Denali was the first to respond in his haughty voice. "Governor, we have sufficient evidence to show it is possible a cult dedicated to the ruinous powers is present on this world, we demand you're aid in helping us to uncover this plot." This made the governor become even more concerned and he said. "My lords if what you say is true then we must move swiftly, the populace have gotten more aggressive as of late so this cult might have grown, you have my full support in helping to stop this threat, so please, do what you need to in order to save my world." Linad was satisfied with this response, at least the governor was a good person, Linad then allowed himself to think that maybe this mission wouldn't be so terrible after all.
