"Right now,I think we're just avoiding each other,"Alex told Meredith as they got of the elevator for the start of the day.

"No,she's avoiding you,"Meredith corrected.

"Yeah yeah,she asked me to leave her alone so I will."

Meredith sighed,bringing their steps to a halt,"You hurt her,you can't expect her to ever forgive you."

"I know and I don't,"Alex answered continuing their walk."By the way have you heard of a Dean Harris,He's supposed to be here for a paeds case?"

"Oh yeah,I've definitely heard his name come up somewhere,have you heard the theme for the gala?"Meredith mocked already knowing the answer.

"Let me guess Disney Kingdoms,"Alex joked.

"Nope,but you're close,it's masquerade."

"Oh come on.All the mask wearing and crap."

"Yes,Alex,All the mask wearing and crap,"Meredith repeated,"It was Avery's call,he wants it to be ,how did he say it? Sophisticated."Coming to the head of the T-Junction corridor in which the two needed to part ways,Meredith asked,"Have you got a suit?"

Before he could respond,Alex looked down the direction Meredith was supposed to go and saw Jo,he stared at her for a few seconds,watching her talk to the resident beside her.Her eyes quickly flickered up to meet his,but just as quickly fell down again after she'd rolled them,"Not yet,"Alex responded,his gaze still on Jo,Meredith turned round following his gaze and saw Jo.

"Alex.Stop,"she laughed but grew more serious,"You have to give her space."

"I know,"Alex responded and then proceeded to turn in his appropriate direction,away from Meredith.

Jo

As Jo turned after her encounter with Alex,Link yelled"BOO!"and grabbed her shoulders.

Shaking him off,a pissed of Jo said,"Link,what the hell?"

"I figured you needed cheering up,"he added sinisterly,changing his tone to being more sincere he asked,"How are you?"What he really meant was how are you dealing with Alex.

"I'm fine,I'm okay,"Jo told him.

"And how are things with you and,"he hesitated,"Alex?"

"There are no 'things' between me and Alex,we're just colleagues and that's it."

"Right...Well let me know if you need anything,"he said smiling at her.

"Will do,"Jo answered sarcastically.

Alex

Alex heard the NICU door,open but continues checking on the stats for a baby.

"Dr.Alex Karev right?" A voice said,causing Alex to look up and see a man.He was tall and tanned with very dark,combed hair and light blue aqua eyes.He had an annoyingly perfect smile,he'd definitely had something done to his teeth,clothed in dark blue scrubs he introduced himself,"I'm Dr. Dean Harris,I'm here on a paeds case,"The man said as he held out his hand,Alex shook it.

"Yeah that's right,"Alex responded.

"I've heard great things about you,"Dean added,"Your work with the African children was,inspiring."

"Thanks,"Alex responded,not really one for small talk.

"Dr. Karev I'd like to do the consult for the patient now,"Dean spoke in a demanding manner ,not giving Alex a choice really.Alex was shocked at his rudeness,just moments ago he seemed very amiable.

"Dr. Harris,I will do the consult when I have the time,"Alex snapped.

Dean laughed,"Dr. Karev,I told this patient,that apart from me,"he cockily added,"you are reportedly one of the best paediatric surgeons in the state,already proving them wrong I see?"He mocked.

Alex's jaw stiffened as he said,"Okay then.Lead the way."

Later that day

Sitting down eating lunch,Alex said,"Mer I hate him.The guy's a total douche"

"Well after the way he acted,even I'd probably be punching him,"Mer joked.

"Punching who?,"Dean slyly said as he overheard their conversation and approached them,"with your past Dr. Karev I wouldn't encourage that."

Alex stood up now,clenching his fists,"Excuse me?"

"You heard me."

Seeing Alex's anger flush over his face,Meredith quickly intervened by standing between the two,"Is there a problem Dr.Harris?"

"Not at all,Dr. Grey,"he said smirking as he left.

"That's it,"Alex said as he stomped off in the opposite direction.

He began pacing down the hall going to Bailey's Office,as he passed the penultimate corner to the office,he walked past Jo,their eyes locked as they walked opposite each other,she could see the rage in his steps as he walked.

Finally reaching Bailey's office,Alex swung the door open saying,"I want Harris fired."

"What the hell Karev?"Bailey spoke,sitting at her desk,typing on the computer.

Walking up to her desk Alex reiterated,"I want him fired,he's saying all this crap about me and to me when I've done nothing to him,he's an idiot."

"Well his reputation certainly does not suggest that,Karev."

"I don't care about his reputation-"

"Karev.The one thing I said to you was do not cause drama.And that is exactly what you are doing,now get out of my office,"Bailey interrupted.

"You're not evening listening,"Alex said filled with rage as he stormed out,pacing down the corridors eventually walking into an elevator,he needed to calm down.

Jo

"Jo,can you pick up Zola,Bailey and Ellis from day care and take them to Maggie?I'm not going to be able to make it,I've got surgery,"Meredith asked on the phone.

"Yeah,I'll do it now,"Jo responded and ended the call.

Jo proceeded to walk to the day-care to get Meredith's children.When she walked in,the sight of Alex and Izzie with their children fell upon her eyes.Still out of view from them,Jo suddenly realised why Alex had left,for his children.She know knew that it wasn't her fault,her being a bad wife,it was the fact he had two children,and that alone gave Jo more peace than she imagined she'd get at the eventual sight of him with them upon his return.But nonetheless,he'd still left her for Izzie,romantically,and she wasn't ready to face him yet.

"Zola,Bailey,Ellis,"Jo called out enthusiastically seeing the children a few metres away.Both Alex and Izzie's head flicked around at her voice and were stunned.

All three children came running at speed towards Jo,"Auntie Jo,where's Auntie Maggie?"Zola asked.

Alex couldn't take his eyes off Jo,it pleased him to think what an amazing mother she would be."I'm going to take you to her now,let's go,"Jo said smiling as she waved to the staff woman watching the children.

"Okay,but can we get some cookies on the way?Mommy always lets us,"Bailey insisted.

"Not a chance comrade,but good effort though,"Jo joked as they left the room.Jo exhaled deeply upon leaving the room,at this point she was barely allowing herself to make eye contact with Alex.

"Are you okay?"Zola asked Jo.

Jo laughed,"Why wouldn't I be?"

Zola looked down and in a very adult and well mannered way said,"Uncle Alex is back."

Jo exhaled reminiscing on the relationship they once had,"Yeah,he is."

The next several days were very much the same for both Jo and Alex,Alex was repeatedly getting harassed by Dean,but he was still giving Jo the space she asked for.The two would see each other in the corridors,make eye-contact and then look away.
