Chapter 11- Reveals, Rules, and Rescue

"Not that we want to bother you. Your mother will be coming and she will need the assistance of the Returned Warrior. She will go and come back presently, and then may come the opportunity to converse with your mother."

"No worries thanks for the heads up."

Our next move involves another team split though not in a way that would be normal at all. Pyrrha when I say so, go. You will come back, but you will know what is needed."

"I'm afraid I don't quite understand."

"You will, but remember you are to return immediately."

"Would you mind telling me how you know?"

"I'll explain later."

"Anything else you would like to add?"

The others had gathered around them all looking at them in disbelief.

"For now you must know that you can't engage anything romantic with Jaune until he is proven worthy."

"What!? Why?!"

"It is not only my call in this and it is because within you lies the lineage of a Warrior."

Bowing her head in understanding.

"Before it was based on your choice, but because you had to be brought back by the means you were it is now based upon who can sustain you."

"I love him."

"I know, but not all is lost. If Jaune can somehow prove his worth you may be with your chosen. Till then keep it to non-romantic hugs and high fives otherwise he will drain you."

"Wait? How is she even back?!" Asked Norah.

"Is this even real?" Came from Jaune still not believing his own eyes.

"I didn't know she could be drained."

"Yeah unfortunately it is a thing."

Weiss was taken a back with this news.

"Don't worry. If anything he is the only thing that is remotely close to anything that can send her back right now."

"Somehow that is reassuring."

"How is she back if that really is her?" Came from Ren.

"She was killed with fire, so she was brought back with fire. I brought her back. It really is her."

"Pyrrha!"

The stunned beyond belief part of Team JNPR was suddenly dog piled on top of Pyrrha. All crying happy tears.

("Even though I was with you the entire time, I have missed you all as well.")

"I don't care how you're back! I'm just glad you are!" Norah said.

"I care " Jaune said and all looked to him in confusion.

"How did you bring her back?"

"With something called ancients fire and a bond of her choosing."

"What-"

Raven burst into the room nodded at Pyrrha opened a portal and then both disappeared. The room was stunned.

"What just happened?!" Norah cried in disbelief.

"Don't worry she'll be back. Ruby is it done?"

Ruby shook off her shock and looked to her sister then realized what she was asking.

"They are nearly finished I needed a last detail for Norah and then all are finished. Yang nodded.

"Jaune, there is a trial that awaits you and you may only take one person with you."

"I want to take Pyrrha."

"I'm sorry Jaune, but that is against the rules."

"Where did she go!? How can you stand there and act as if you don't care that she is gone!?"

"HOW DARE YOU!"

In an instant Yang was on him. Holding him by his neck against the wall, eyes red and draconic, and her voice was a low menacing growl.

Norah and Ren went forward to try and help, but Weiss stopped them both.

"Let her speak she won't hurt him."

"She is of the Warrior line. That means were she to go with you, she would be forced to kill you because that would be considered cheating. You are to choose but one companion. This person cannot be Dragon, nor Warrior, and especially not of your own kin. DO YOU UNDERSTAND?!"

He nodded as best as he could. She let him go and he slumped down to the ground.

"I'm sorry."

He said as misery took him over. Ren and Norah saw to Jaune. Yang took a deep breath and she scented something unexpected.

She shook it off and turned around.

"Now I need to talk to my mother. I'm sorry, but this conversation will be family invite only."

"Then I think we should be included." Said Qrowe. He stood with Oz at his side. She let out a deep breath.

"Forgive me, but I don't trust you Ozma. As for you Uncle. Well Dad disowned you on Ruby's 11th birthday and he never reclaimed you. The only others by draconic count would be Weiss, Pyrrha, and Mom."

Ozpin's eyes had widened at hearing his name.

"What about me?" Yang then turned to Ruby.

"Of course. Dad claimed you the day you were born. Though I don't know if you can claim them as family. You can try. I think you may have more of Momma in you to do so."

"What do I do?"

Yang looked at her in remembering all the things she'd taught her over the years and smiled.

"You say I then state your name, then you state that you mark them as family."

She stood straight and cleared her throat and then looked to Norah.

"I, Ruby Rose, mark you as family."

Nothing happened though.

Ruby bowed her head in defeat.

"I get that you count Team JNPR as family, but I haven't quite made that bond with them yet. As for Qrowe... that is for Dad to discern."

Before she could turn to go upstairs her Uncle stopped her.

"What makes you so sure we won't join you anyway?"

"Oh feel free to. You still won't be privy to the conversation."

She knew chosen family would be able to carry on the conversation all within each others minds.

"Yang what if I've changed my mind?"

"Then you must declare what you want."

She knew she had scented Weiss earlier then and there. She had found her inner fire this time.

Which meant if she truly wished to be Yang's mate it could have been possible.

"Weiss?"

Weiss turned to Ruby.

"What is it Ruby?"

"Please can we talk?"

Weiss looked at Yang.

"Go ahead. I will fill you in later."

Weiss nodded then followed Ruby outside. Yang headed upstairs.

She was followed by Oz and Qrowe. She greeted both Pyrrha and her mother in kind.

{So the peanut gallery came along?}

"Yes, they have proven their disrespect whether they meant to or not in this aspect. Hey Mom, could you tell me why Ruby can't claim people as family like me?"

{The thing is... Ruby isn't exactly Taiyang's blood.}

"What?!"

{Don't worry you are still sisters. Just not as you originally thought.}

"Care to explain?"
{Taiyang is your father, and I am your mother, but Taiyang is not Ruby's father.}

"Come again?"

{The Rose lineage has a list of things that make them unique. Their silver eyes and the power that accompanies that, their thorn binding, and their ability to plant seeds that eventually grow into children.}

"Explain further."

{Well born from the emotional pull of love from both parts female Roses can plant a seed of life that turns into a flower that sprouts out of their partner's-"}

"Ok a bit much."

{THE POINT IS: that the flower once in bloom is picked and then potted and then the child is hidden within the flower. You see your sister isn't part dragon. She is part fairy.}

She looked pointedly at Yang. Who was in a bit of a daze for a moment.

"Didn't see that coming at all! Is that how you know Summer is just missing?"

{Yes. Much like a dragon's blood bond, a Rose's Thorn binding is very similar."}

"You'd be dead too."

{Yes, Yang. Though that would be true if either Tai or Summer were to die."}

"You did a double blood bond!?"

{Yes.}

"That's incredible!"

Yang was in awe. She had a newfound respect for her mother.

{Thank you, but this is why I know Summer is merely missing. Now as to why I needed to borrow her.} She nodded at Pyrrha.

{As you know my semblance allows me to bond with people and create portals to them.

I made such a bond with Vernal and had her follow your missing teammate because she has the potential to be your true mate.

She saw that she had ran into a bit of trouble. Instead of having her take care of the issue I wanted to see if you properly grounded your Warrior.

You see Warriors if unproperly grounded tend to feel drained after traveling in such a way.}

"The Ancients told me of the Knight's trials, but please tell me more."

("The Warrior line are very disciplined. They were given great strength and carry great responsibility with them due to our beginning. Though Warriors and Knights alike have a different take on things.")

"How so?"

("Well Warriors normally have the inclination to act upon instinct and for the most part the greater good.

They were given the ability to be able to be a master of all weapons, be able to take a hit, and become guardians of dragons especially when it was a dragon who was responsible for saving the life of one of the greatest there was.

Now the key difference between Knights and Warriors were that the Warriors were hereditary and trained in a special way and sometimes their gifts varied, but the Knights were not automatically inducted into being a Knight.

They have to go through what is called The Trials. If a Knight goes through his or her trials and passes then they are sworn in to be guardians and they inherit the rest of their powers which include being worthy of that of a dragon or Warrior.

If a Knight were to fail their trials they would be stripped of everything and disowned entirely. The reason that Knights are not as trusted nor as common as Warriors then was after one betrayed them all.

It was told that there would come a time where a Warrior and Knight would be meant for each other and create a bond between the two lines that would intertwine the races and begin a new generation of people as a whole.

Though as it came to be that the Knight involved may have loved the Warrior, but not as much as he loved power.

He was told a way to inherit a Warrior's power. Instead of combining two strong individuals to bring together a unity that would be acknowledged by all he poisoned her. Before she died a fellow Warrior set her on fire.

A dragon had been present and brought her back. His punishment for his treason was to be stripped of everything and then tortured to death. Knights have never been trusted quite the same sense then.)

{As bleak as that sounds not all is lost if a Knight fails. They have other options."}

"How do you mean?"

{They could very well mate with another of the races to gain some semblance of establishing their place among the magical society.

To better explain that you need to understand that aside from just the Warriors, Knights, Faunus, Grim, and Dragons there were at least three more races among the people in the time of magic to begin with.

The two others that are known would be the Fae and the Changelings."}

"Changelings?"

{What I am, and if I'm not wrong, so is Weiss. Changelings have the ability to adapt to their mate of choice.}

"Which is how you were able to be with both Summer and Dad?"

{Exactly. We also can adapt to so much more. The key thing is that more often than not especially within families of one race or another changeling traits can skip a generation. That is why you and your sister are primarily copies of your other parents respectively.

Changelings were meant to be the mediators of all races. To keep peace and help all of them to pass on familial traits.

This was until the traitorous knight took to secretly slaughtering us all before his demise.

My kind are few and far in between as it were. As for the Fae there are quite a few different variations of them.

They usually have one or two traits that are specifically geared towards their kind alone and it is uniquely elemental for the most part. I suspect that your friend Norah is of Fae descent as well.}

"That definitely explains both her and Ruby's fixation on sugar." Raven chuckled at that.

{That being understood among all the races and having their trials it was up to the knights who had failed to choose if they wanted to blend with the normal humans, or try and find their place among the magical.

Otherwise they chose to spite the magical altogether and go out of their way to snuff out as many of them as they could. Their favorite targets being an Awakened Warrior like Pyrrha here or Changelings.

I fear our time is coming to a close soon. I wanted to impart to you two more things.

What happened to you in the caves is a complete and utter secret. So naturally all the Faunus will know.}

"Wait... What?!"

{The first dragon and the first Faunus made a blood pact. It is within this blood pact that when a dragon has risen or come into their full power, then it is known to the Faunus specifically so they can present a possible mate.

Dragons have the choice to mate with any race, but to make them stand out more this pact was put in place.

Dragons have found true mates within each race, but none could come close to that of pairing with a Faunus save for maybe their own. So, yes it is a familial secret to all those that are not claimed family magic and non-magic alike. The true exception to that rule are the Faunus.}

"What makes them so great?"

{The Faunus mate in a capacity that they share their very souls with their chosen. This is what they have in common with the Dragons that the others can only pull off only in varying degrees. This pact was made based upon how the both dragon and Faunus felt, how the Faunus smelled, and above all because of how both had bonded.}

It was a lot to absorb on top of all the Dragon knowledge she was learning as she went. Her mother wasn't done quite yet.

{The reason I left you was because of a Curse that was put on my bloodline alone.

Had I stayed, you and Ruby would have died.

I have been trying to find a way to be rid of it. I cannot tell you anymore for I've run out of time for now.

Anymore and that puts even you at risk. Know that I love you dearly and I am so proud of you. Give Ruby my love I will be back at some point I promise.}

She hugged Yang nodded to Pyrrha and then turned into a bird and was off.

"She has a knack for leaving me with more questions."

(I understand. She did answer for quite a lot though.) Yang nodded.

Both turned and looked at Qrowe and Oz who were looking at them with a mixture of glaring and confusion.

Yang just grinned at both of them and headed down to catch up with her sister. Pyrrha followed suit.

"Is she ok?" (She is safe.) "I refuse to forgive her. Not until she has earned it, but I'm glad she is ok."

Pyrrha nodded. "Our next move is to be at Haven." (What tells you this?)

"Sometimes I hear from my ancestors for guidance and other times my dragon knowledge sort of takes over in a sense that I just know it as if I've always known it.

My ancestors are who told me about your mission and my mother's arrival, but as for Haven, I know I was against it at first, but this is more of a gut feeling."

(If Dragon lore has taught me anything, its that Dragons are driven by their instincts and they have never lead them down the wrong path)

"Good to know."
