Hi, everyone! I've been working very hard on this story and finally managed to write this piece. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did while writing it. Please feel free to review, I would love to hear your thoughts.
Disclaimer: I don't own My Hero Academia or any of its characters. Mizuki, however, is my own creation.
Let's start with the story, shall we?*
Chapter 11
"Match two! Team B are the heroes and team I are the villains. Now, let's start the second indoor person-to-person combat training match!" All Might announced over his microphone, everyone in the monitoring room ready for the second match.
"I wonder how Mizuki will do…" Eijiro murmured softly and felt a pang in his chest as he recalled the various emotions she had gone through with her brother's battle. She took in the entire battle without flinching once.
He knew it was hard for her to watch the battle against her brother and what seemed to be her childhood friend. They had an intertwined past and she seemed to be right in the middle of it, making it worse.
Katsuki was emotionless at the back, not even looking at the screen as he stood a distance away from the rest of the students. Mizuki did tell him that he was in a bad mood, but Eijiro would've never thought it could go to such an extent.
"She'll probably blow everything up like Bakugou did. They're brother and sister, right?" A smaller male commented. He had four large purple and black balls on his head, in the position to resemble a mohawk.
Minoru Mineta
Age: 15
Quirk: Pop Off
Katsuki gritted his teeth and clenched his fists by his sides. Mizuki wasn't like that. Just because he made a stupid mistake doesn't mean that she was going to do the same. He felt torn, his pride shattered and a part of him was very irritated.
"I don't think so." Everyone looked at Eijiro, his gaze returning towards the screen. "I watched her fight at the entrance exam. She easily pushed forward, only damaging the robots. She thinks fast, and on her feet, and always takes everything around her into account," he stated and snapped Bakugou out of his trance.
This guy… He was the same guy that Mizuki talked to freely when they first came here. They had seemed very chummy at lunch as well and now he knew why. He looked up at the screen, his red eyes falling onto his sister's figure as she stood prepared in front of the nuclear weapon.
Mizuki…
"Mizuki-san gave a very openminded opinion over the previous battle, giving the impression that she wasn't someone to rush into things. I'm interested to see how this battle will be," Momo spoke up, much to everyone's surprise after the sparks that flew between her and Mizuki.
"She's gonna kick some ass! Go, Mizuki-chan!" Mina cheered for the ash blonde female, grinning widely as she did so. Ochaco stood next to her and nodded in agreement. Mizuki was strong and despite her intimidating demeanour, she had a cute nerdy side which could aid her.
All Might listened to everyone's statements, finding it surprising how Mizuki had quite a few people who were supporting her. Even those previously shot down by her. It was much different than her brother.
He wondered how she would do in this simulation. Izuku talked a lot about his childhood friend and her Quirk. He boasted about how strong she was and that she always won a fight, never backing down until she was certain she was the victor.
It sounded much like her brother but the difference was her compassion. She motivated Izuku to become a hero despite him being Quirkless. She clearly stated what was on her mind and was quick to correct others on their faults.
He would have to see how she fought and what type of impression her fight was going to have on the class and her brother. After all, he was beaten down hard mentally, and was looking at the screen with hopelessness. Hopefully, his sister would change that.
Mizuki let out a breath, her heart hammering in her chest and excitement rushing through her veins. The match started and it was awfully quiet. Ojiro let her know that he was on the third floor in hiding and waiting as she stood guard on the fourth floor.
He would let her know if anything was happening and if anyone appeared on the third floor. He was a reliable ally and despite Mizuki knowing her capabilities, decided to leave one of the opponents to him. She didn't want to make a critical mistake in being overconfident.
She was going to have to wait for them to reach her and hopefully Ojiro would be able to separate the two. With the grenades she gave him, she was positive that he would have an advantage, especially against the ice male… What was his name again? It didn't matter.
She made the perfect trap for when the male arrived. He would step over the rope and cause boxes to fall on top of him. He would the most likely use his quirk to freeze the items. That's when she would blind him and tie him up.
Mizuki snapped around when she heard a faint sound, the temperature in the room falling instantly. Her eyes widened when ice froze over every single surface. It covered everything, even the weapon and she had half of her leg stuck.
He froze everything in an instant? What was with this guy? Mizuki clicked her tongue when she tried to break out of the ice. It was no use. She was stuck and if she used her Quirk now, she would be discovered. She reached towards her ear, her brows furrowing.
"Ojiro! Respond!"
"Mizuki-san! I'm stuck! He froze the entire building like it was nothing!" Ojiro informed her and Mizuki's eyes widened. He froze the entire building? A smirk covered her lips and a trail of sweat cascaded down the side of her face.
She knew it was going to be a tough battle because he was one of the recommended students. She hadn't, however, seen this outcome. There were going to be a few changes to their plan for it to work.
"Ojiro, listen carefully, stay put. The chances that he's handling this on his own are good since he would've put his own ally in danger. Don't use the grenade until his partner comes along. I want you to stay stuck and play along," Mizuki said, a plan forming in her head.
"Okay, I'll let you know when he's here. Man, he's crazy strong…" Ojiro trailed off and Mizuki frowned deeply. He was strong, true, but he was arrogant. He was trying to take them down by one single move and it irritated her.
She was going to fight against him with everything she had. There was no holding back against him. It excited her to know that she was going to be pushed against her limits. It seemed like she wasn't going to be bored.
"He's here and alone."
I thought so… Mizuki mused to herself. She exhaled and looked down at her feet. Her entire half leg was frozen up and it was damn cold! She shivered at the lower temperature and felt her body heat up in response. She would wait until he was here before moving.
All in all, the fight was scheduled for 15 minutes. By now, at least a few minutes passed. She would be able to fight in the lower temperature for quite a while without pushing her sweat glands too much.
She heard shifting and eyed the door when she heard movement. He was coming. She would stall him for as long as possible before pouncing. Nevertheless, if he froze her legs only to keep her from moving, he made a very big mistake.
She let out a choking sound when there was another rush of ice straight towards her. In another instant, her entire body was frozen up to her head. She felt her body's temperature drop and resisted a gasp.
She glared at the opening of the door a pair of duo coloured eyes looking back at her as he let out a breath of frost. She couldn't move an inch in her icy prison and a smirk covered her lips. He knew that she would use her hand palms to stop him and froze her entire body.
"Look who made his appearance. Quite the impressive Quirk you have there. I honesty am amazed at how fast you covered this entire building in a flash," Mizuki told the male as he entered the room, his boots crackling as they stepped onto the ice.
"You lost. I already passed your partner on my way here. He won't be able to provide you back-up. If either one of you move, the skin on your feet will come off, so you won't be able to fight your best," Shoto stated in a cool tone.
"I figured that you would make the same mistake as your brother did, splitting up your team. You seem rational, but your arrogance comes in the way of your skills," he added and Mizuki scowled at him.
"Damn it!" She said through gritted teeth, a trail of sweat once again falling down the side of her face. He smirked seeing her expression and knew that it was over. This fight was done faster than the fight with her brother.
"I'll end this quickly. After all, you don't want the cells in your body to slowly die because of the ice," he said as he walked up to Mizuki. It turned out to be a bad matchup for her in the end. Her body not able to produce as much sweat because of the coldness and it was exhilarating.
She smirked and then burst out laughing causing his face to fall as he stopped behind her. "It's over…when I say It's over!" She yelled out, heating up her body with a cry. His eyes widened in shock at her actions.
"You… You're going to tear your own muscle fibres?!" He asked in shock, Mizuki's smirk widening into a grin. The ice begun to melt, steam coming from her glowing body. He missed one very important fact.
"I'm not limited to my hand palms like my brother, Ice Bastard. The moment you froze my legs in an instant, I rose my body temperature and backed up enough of my sweat to use," Mizuki told him, realization washing over the male.
She exploded at incredible speed, straight towards the male. He saw her go in for a large swing like her brother but instead she swung her left leg into his side. He coughed at the impact and flew backwards.
That was a heavy kick. Not to mention I thought she was going in for a swing. She's very agile. He thought, wincing slightly from the impact she made. He could feel the heat from the kick, his arm stinging lightly.
He stopped his momentum by digging his feet into the ground, his eyes shooting back towards Mizuki. She stood ready for him, her ash blonde hair spiking everywhere and her crimson coloured eyes glaring into his own.
"Your biggest fault was thinking that I would be like my brother. You wanted to put me out of order to claim the weapon." Sparks appeared over her entire body. "The moment you thought you had an advantage was the moment you lost," she said and watched as his eyes narrowed.
Mizuki charged straight towards him, her eyes intensely locked onto his every movement and her facial expression impassive. He shot out his right hand, Mizuki watching as he sent a wave of ice towards her.
The stronger the Quirk, the less precise the attacks! Mizuki thought and let out an explosion in her hand palms to let her move into the air, narrowly avoiding the wave. She gave him a crazed grin, the male clicking his tongue.
His hand shot up towards her, the ice moving upwards and Mizuki chuckled. She let out a cry as she kicked straight into the ice, her leg glowing slightly as she let loose an explosion. She busted through the ice, the impact causing a smokescreen to emerge.
Shoto covered his face from the shards of ice that flew about. He jumped backwards, his eyes darting around in search of the female. He took a step backwards and stopped straight into the palm of her hand.
She's behind me-! "Boom."
The iced part of his hero costume was blown off by the force and he coughed from the impact. She used the same trick as Bakugou. He thought, as he fell forward. He managed to dig his feet into the ground and turned to face her. She's faster than expected.
"Whoa! Mizuki used the same move as Bakugou did with Midoriya!" Kaminari pointed out as everyone looked at the screen in astonishment. Mizuki even damaged the uniform of her opponent in the process.
"What is with this girl? She even broke free out of the ice like it was nothing!" Mineta pointed out, his mouth agape as he pointed at the screen. She was crazy strong just like Shoto. What was with this hero class?!
Eijiro grinned widely as he watched her fight. She wasn't holding back at all, knowing that her opponent was strong. He recalled her fighting at the entrance exam and felt his own excitement rise up.
She was insanely strong.
"Wait, something's up. She's using explosions all over her body? I thought Bakugou could only do it with his hand palms?" Mino mused aloud and cocked her head to the side. She raised an eyebrow, her finger resting on her cheek.
The class glanced backwards towards the ash blond male who had his eyes hidden beneath a shadow. "Mizuki can use it all over her body," Eijiro replied, earning everyone's attention. "She can heighten her body temperature and let lose explosions on any area of her body."
"I see… I see… She's hot and hot."
"That's your conclusion?!" Eijiro let out a breath and shook his head, eyeing the screen from the corner of his eyes. There were limits to her Quirk as he recalled her white explosion that hurt her legs.
"Then, does that mean she's a bad match up for Todoroki-kun?" Ochaco asked, amazed at how well Mizuki was holding her ground. "If she can melt and break through his ice then it'll put him in a difficult situation."
"Not necessarily," Momo spoke up, her one hand resting on her hips. "It still takes time for her to be able to melt the ice. Not to mention, she needs to push herself more than usual because of the low temperature. If she keeps pushing herself, then her muscle fibres will tear."
"Todoroki-kun came in through recommendations. He won't be put to a disadvantage that easily," Momo added, her words stirring Katsuki slightly. He felt his sister's rush and the thrill that came from her.
They were going to get their hands burned.
Mizuki had her hand and part of her arm frozen from Shoto's quirk, the iciness making goose bumps appear on her body. He froze her gauntlet, the ice sticking into it to prevent her from using it on him. He was trying to limit her abilities.
His reaction time is fast. He managed to use his ice to lessen the damage and scale of the explosion and got me. This guy is intelligent. Mizuki thought and smirked as she looked at the male, his divided hair and different coloured eyes staring back at her.
"I underestimated you," he stated calmly. He had little knowledge about the extent of the Quirk she could use and it put him at a brief disadvantage. He watched as he gave him a calm gaze, the intensity of her crimson eyes making his frown deepen.
She didn't reply on his statement and merely eyed him carefully. She couldn't let lose any large-scale explosions because of the weapon's proximity. If she damaged the building, it would also cause trouble for Ojiro.
She had to fight him close combat and the thought had her ball her fists. "Alright then, let's do this!" Mizuki exclaimed and exploded from her spot, attacking him head on. As soon as she was in the air, his eyes twitched.
He moved to the side and as she was about to use her other hand, it was frozen solid in ice. Shoto kicked her feet out from underneath her right when she was about to land, her balance failing her. He grabbed her frozen arm and then pushed her down, causing her to fall onto the icy surface.
"It's over," he said, pressing his right hand against her back, ice forming beneath his fingertips. He held her dominant hand and froze the other hand against the ground. She was left vulnerable beneath him and he had the upper hand with his Quirk slowly freezing her backside.
Mizuki let out a huff. "I guess expecting you to play nice with a girl is stupid, huh?" Mizuki said with a chuckle. She was impressed. He wasn't holding back at all, even if she was a female. He wasn't going easy on her and she was grateful for that.
"I'm not taking any liberties on anyone. I'm not here to be friends," he said and Mizuki rolled her eyes at the male's statement. He let his ice move faster over her as his eyes narrowed. Why wasn't she fazed?
"Give up. You can't win this fight."
"Hah?! Who the hell do you think you're talking to, Asshole?!" Mizuki snarled at him, her backside glowing and then exploded. The large explosion had Shoto cough, his arms stinging from the heat she released.
"I'm not done yet!" Mizuki yelled out, his eyes snapping down towards her. He was pushed back from the attack, giving Mizuki enough room to twist her body. She grabbed his face with her hand and then slammed him into the ground.
Shoto went to use his right side but her boot smashed into the limb, letting out sparks in warning. She gave him a mad grin, breathing heavy and a bruise visible from her left cheek where she fell onto the ice.
"Don't. Move. I'll blow off your arm if I feel you moving even an inch," Mizuki stated darkly, her other hand pulled back as she held her palm ready for an attack. She felt a shift beneath her boot and let out a small explosion, the male hissing.
"I said, don't move! You really are stupid, aren't you? As long as I keep your right side under control, then you can't do anything. After all, you can't freeze with your left side, can you, Ice Bastard?" She stated and his eyes narrowed. She knew his weakness.
"I'm not convinced that you don't have something else up your sleeve. There's a reason for your divided hair and eye colour, right?" He gritted his teeth at her words, Mizuki catching the sudden hostility towards her. She touched a nerve.
"Mizuki-san, I'm engaging in combat with Shoji-san. I don't know if I can hold him off for long. How does things look that side?" Ojiro's voice came through. Mizuki was about to reach to talk to him but that half of her body was immediately frozen up.
"You-" It was the perfect opportunity for him to catch her off guard. He twisted her arm out of his face and then jumped away from underneath her. He breathed heavy and held his right arm, the burns stinging as he used his coldness.
Mizuki felt her temper rise as her irritancy grew. His Quirk was starting to get on her nerves. She could feel her body heat immediately fall and let out a cold gasp. She glared back at him as she was imprisoned in the ice.
"You might've broken through earlier but you already used most of your sweat to fight against me afterwards. If you push yourself further, you'll definitely cause internal damage," he said and Mizuki growled at him.
This guy…
"Each and every single one of you…" Her body started to glow as her temperature rose, his eyes widening in disbelief. She was doing it again? "…keep looking down on those who worked hard to get here." Mizuki let out a breath as the water dripped down from her body.
"I'm not here to play games. I'm here to become a hero and yet you keep looking down on me… I'm here to become limitless and break loose from my shackles. Torn muscle fibres? Overheating my body? So what? I'm going to win!" Mizuki yelled and charged straight towards him.
He let loose a wave of ice and Mizuki side stepped it easily, using his weakness of only being able to use his one side against him. She saw him move his right hand and shot out her left hand, letting loose a sudden explosion to push his hand away.
She then slammed her knee into his stomach, the male gasping out. She spun around and kicked him away with another explosion erupting from her foot. He was sent backwards to the other side of the room and his eyes glared up at Mizuki.
Steam was coming from her body as she walked towards him, steam coming out of her mouth and her red eyes giving him shivers. What was with her? She looked like a real villain on her way to kill him.
She kept pushing back no matter how many times he froze her. She kept breaking free like it was nothing and it was starting to work on his nerves. His long-ranged attacks didn't work out the way he wanted them to. He refused to use his left side! He would have to use another strategy.
He took a step with his right leg and then ran straight towards her, Mizuki's brows furrowing at his change of behaviour. He wasn't using his blasts of ice anymore. Something was up and she had to react before he did anything.
She went to take a step, her feet once again stuck in the ice and before she could move her hands, her arms were also covered by ice. He twisted the capturing tape and slid on the ice passed her, catching her middle in the process.
He turned to look at her, a gasp escaping his lips when he saw a grenade float in front of him. When did she-? The pin was in her mouth as she smirked. She already threw it behind her when he went to attack her!
He was blinded by the stunning explosion that came from the grenade. His hands flew up to his face as he winced and the capture tape went along with it. He felt his hands be grabbed and did the only thing he could without his vision. He slammed his head forward, hitting Mizuki straight in her face.
Mizuki let out a cry from the hit she received straight on her nose. It hurt. It hurt, but not enough to stop her. Mizuki gave him a heavy blow with her own headbutt, disorientating him. He managed to open one of his eyes to see her red eyes gleaming with determination and confidence.
She was practically yelling: 'Don't underestimate me!'
His arms were pulled together with the captive tape and he was pulled onto his knees. His vision took a few moments to settle for him to see the tape wrapped around his wrists and Mizuki stood in front of him.
"Like I said…" She breathed heavy, the pain of her nose causing tears to form in the corner of her eyes. "It's not over until I say it's over, Ice Bastard," she finished with a smirk, her grip tightening on the tape.
"Time's up! Villain team wins!"
All Might's voice reached their ears and Mizuki's smirk widened into a victorious grin. They won. She did it. She won against one of the recommendation students and he didn't even have the chance to touch the weapon.
"Mizuki-san! We won!" Ojiro's happy voice cut in from behind and she turned to smirk at him. His eyes widened and he paled. "Y-Your nose! B-Blood!" He stuttered pointing at her and Mizuki raised an eyebrow.
She brought her hand to her nose and touched it, wincing in pain. A few droplets of blood fell onto the cold ice and she cursed. It was broken. The ice bastard actually broke her nose! The little shit was going to get it!
"Tissue! Tissue!" Ojiro panicked running around but everything was covered in ice. He looked around, trying to find anything, but it was no use. He watched as the other male stood up and walk towards Mizuki.
"I apologize for the rough handling." Ojiro paled at his words when he saw the visible, slightly bleeding bruise on the male's forehead, his one arm burnt. What exactly happened here for both of them to be bleeding?
He broke the restraints by freezing them off and then tore off a piece of clothing from his costume, Mizuki's eyes widening. He handed her the piece of clothing and made a piece of ice in his other hand before he applied it onto her nose.
"Son of a-That's cold!" Mizuki cursed at the coldness after taking the cloth. She held it onto her nose and inhaled as the pain subsided with the cold. "You know, you have a really hard head on you," she said and he blinked a few times.
"You have a hard head yourself," he told her and Mizuki caught sight of his bruise. She burst out laughing at his words, only to winch when she moved causing the ice in his hand to shift. Her laughter died down and she grinned at him.
"I like you, Ice Bastard! I hope we can do this again someday. Not the, break-each-other's-nose, but the fight. It was fun," she told him, a mischievous gleam flashing in her eyes. Ojiro sweat dropped at her eagerness for a fight while Shoto smiled softly.
"Yeah."
"What happened here?" Shoji asked as he stepped inside the room, watching the two who were once enemies smile and Mizuki laughing about. He went to stand next to Ojiro and gave him a perplexed expression only to have it returned.
"I see he's still able to walk," Mizuki had the two males pale slightly at her words. "Did our strategy work?" she asked Ojiro. He took a few moments to respond before realizing what she was asking and nodded.
"Yes, I managed to blind him and gained advantage but not for long since Shoji-san has an extra pair of senses," Ojiro sheepishly stated and rubbed the back of his head. Mizuki managed to glance at the male with multiple arms.
"You put up a very tough battle, Ojiro. You should be proud of your achievement," the male's one arm formed a mouth and said. Ojiro gave him a grateful smile and nodded, Mizuki noting at the new friendship that was formed.
"Well done, you lot! It was a very entertaining battle!" All Might burst through the door, everyone noticing his shivering from the cold. "Young Mizuki and Young Todoroki, I want you to go to the nurse's office and get those injuries sorted out."
"Wait, will that mean that we have to sit out the feedback session and possibly miss the next teams beating each other up?" Mizuki asked and All Might's smile jerked slightly. The goal wasn't for them to beat each other up at all.
"Y-Yeah, we'll have the session while you have your nose taken care of. You'll be able to watch the others as soon as you return! Don't worry!" All Might said but Mizuki wasn't convinced. She looked back at the male holding a piece of ice against her nose.
"Hey, Ice boy." Shoto looked at her blankly. She was calling him other names again. "Can you reset a broken nose?" She asked the male, surprising him as well as the others by the sudden question, All Might exclaiming.
"Y-Young Mizuki-""Yes, I have done it before."
"Y-Young Todoroki-""Great, do me a favour, will you? Reset the nose you broke with your rock-hard head," she requested cutting off All Might twice in a row. The male paled when Shoto grunted and took away the block of ice.
"Wait! Wait! We'll have the session after you came back! There's no need to let him set your nose now!" All Might waved his arms in front of him, gaining everyone's attention. Mizuki smirked and he let out a sigh of relief. Thank goodness. He honestly thought she was going through-
"Mother of-Argh! That was painful!" Mizuki cried out after Shoto reset her nose, the pain having tears collect in the corner of her eyes. She let out a breath and held the cloth to her nose, stealing the ice block to hold it against her nose.
"You-Did you just-" All Might let out an exasperated sigh and rubbed his temples. "Geez, go to the nursery room already!" He told them pointing towards the door. Mizuki chuckled at the male and walked through the door.
There was a sudden spike in temperature in the entire building and her attention was drawn towards Shoto's left side. He used his other side to melt off the ice with…heat? That was unexpected. It turned out that he did indeed have another trick up his sleeve.
Seems like she was far from done with him.
In the monitoring room…
"Damn, that was intense! Mizuki have him a headbutt back without hesitating! That was so manly!" Eijiro exclaimed as he recalled her smirk, despite the pain from her nose and the tears that stung in her eyes. She had owned this battle.
"She turned the tables by using the natural advantage of her quirk and then used the equipment of her costume to aid her further. She wasn't fazed even if she knew that he was a tough opponent," Tsuyu pointed out.
Momo eyed the screen as she recalled the female's actions. She had taken advantage against her opponent after knowing each moment and used her quirk to assure victory. She didn't doubt any of her movements of decisions. She had a very strong foundation.
"Man, I completely thought he had her for a moment but I guess they're both monsters," Kaminari said with a sigh, the smaller male standing next to him nodding. They couldn't even start to compare with them.
"Who are you calling a monster? You want me to kill you? Hah?" Mizuki's voice made shivers run down their spines as they slowly turned around to face her. She glared dangerously at them, her red eyes threatening.
"N-No, I-I m-mean-!"
"Alright, everyone! Gather around for a review of the second match! Next, we will begin the third match!" All Might burst into the room. Mizuki gave him a displeased look because he ruined her fun with the blonde male.
"Mizuki-san! Is your nose alright? It looked like it really hurt," Ochako stated as she walked up to Mizuki. There was a small bandage covering the bridge of the ash blonde's nose. Other than that, she didn't have any other injuries.
"Yeah, it's fine now. It wasn't that bad."
"You cursed five times since it was broken until it was fixed," Shoto cut in from behind and Mizuki blushed, giving the male a look of disbelief. He had a small bandage on his forehead where she had hit him.
"What did you say, Ice Bastard?! You wanna go again?!" She snapped at him and only received a small smile from him. She growled at him as he merely walked off and Ochako tried to calm her down.
Mizuki sighed and shook her head, a smirk coming onto her lips. He was an idiot. A strong idiot. She was excited to see what he had in store. For some reason he didn't use his other quirk, giving the intention that there were many things that he was hiding.
She felt a pang in her chest and looked at her brother's backside as it was turned towards her. The backside didn't look as reassuring as it usually did. He was still standing on the same spot when she left. His eyes were hidden beneath a shadow and he hid his emotions from her.
She decided not to say anything as she walked past him towards the others where they would review them. She didn't have any soothing words and there was no way she could embrace him. All she could do was be the steady pillar he could look up to, just like he was to her.
The rest of the day consisted of normal classes, though having an exciting class before a normal one made it difficult to concentrate. Nevertheless, the teachers kept each class interesting with their unique methods.
Izuku was confined inside the infirmary where he was recovering throughout classes, much to Aizawa's dismay. Katsuki was quiet and didn't say a word. He didn't spare anyone a glance either. He was basically a zombie.
Mizuki, on the other hand, had her attention divided between classes. She took notes throughout each lesson and as soon as she had the chance, she drew. Luckily, she brought her designing book a long with her, never wanting to let an opportunity slip by.
She could feel the straining caused by the vigorous drawing, her wrist starting to cramp up more regularly but she brushed passed it. She wanted to make sure she put every single costume design in her book before the day was over.
It was also a way for her to get her mind off the tension and uneasy emotions she had swirling in her chest. She promised Izuku's mother that she would stop him from making her worry, which didn't work out at all.
Meanwhile, she left her brother in his own isolation. He dealt with most of his problems by letting loose but she knew that she would have to talk to him sooner of later. He had an irritating habit of piling up inside him and it was what got him into this position in the first place.
Everyone stayed until late, the beautiful colours of the late afternoon colouring the sky in a sight that was Mizuki's favourite. The colours of the sunset mixed, forming an orange and pink hue that had no comparison.
Mizuki had her tongue sticking out slightly as her hand flew over the page of her designing book. She was completely unaware of everything going on around her. The only thing she had on her mind as finishing up.
And…final dot! Mizuki's wrist cramped up before she finished and her temper flared. She pushed through the cramp and finished with the last adjustments she made. Her head then hit the table below her, her hand cramping crazy and her mind feeling like mush.
"Eh? Mizuki-san! Are you alright?!" Ochako called out in angst after she was startled by the sudden hit. The rest of the class was also startled by the sudden action and some of them even paled, the twitching of her hand the only thing moving.
"Do you think she's dead?" Kaminari asked as he eyed her carefully and received a knock on his head from Mina. He gave her an apologetic look while Eijiro frowned, crossing his arms over his body, she looked like she passed out.
"I think she maybe collapsed because of exhaustion. Ribbit." Tsuyu tapped her chin as she thought aloud, looking at the girl. Kaminari walked over towards the girl and went to touch her, yet immediately hesitated. He glanced towards Katsuki and saw that he wasn't budging in his position at all.
He let out a breath and then poked the female, stepping back quickly when he didn't receive a respond. "Um, Mizuki?" He poked her again and she didn't even flinch. He looked at the others and they shrugged, unsure of what to do.
He frowned deeply and looked down, his eyes catching sight of a drawing. He raised an eyebrow and looked closer at the page, the drawing resembling what looked like…his costume? He couldn't quite make out what else was written and reached for the book.
"Kyah!" He yelled out when his face was grabbed by a steaming hand, Mizuki brought back to life after he touched the pages of her designing book. He paled, turning blue and started to sweat bullets.
"Don't. Touch."
"S-Sorry! I-I'm sorry! P-Please don't kill me!" He called out, Mizuki's red eyes narrowing at him. How on earth can a female be this intimidating? He could feel his lifespan shorten merely with her deadly stare. She let him go and he fell onto the ground with a thump.
"Geez, don't you know it's rude to invade someone else's space?" Mizuki asked the male, a frown of disapproval on her lips. Everyone sweat dropped at her normal tone of voice again, her threatening aura gone without a trace.
Katsuki stood up and slung his bag over his shoulder, catching everyone's attention. Mizuki pressed her lips into a straight line when she tried to make out his expression that he hid underneath a shadow.
"Bakugou, you leaving already?" Eijiro asked the male and didn't receive an answer. Bakugou merely walked off towards the exit. "Wait! We haven't gotten to know each other yet!" He added, his words falling on deaf ears and made some of them stand in the doorway to block him from exiting.
"Bakugou-kun-!""Let him go," Mizuki told them, their eyes briefly observing her. She had a serious facial expression and it made everyone take a step back, giving the ash blonde male a way to exit the room.
"I'll meet you by the gate," Mizuki told her brother and earned a grunt as he left the room. The others stared sadly at him while Mizuki let out a sigh, sitting down. It was going to one interesting walk home.
"Mizuki-kun! Why did you let him go?" Iida asked, waving his robotic arms in the air and his mouth turned downwards in a frown. Mizuki, well aware that Kaminari was still by her side, looked at her least favourite male.
"If he hadn't joined in on any conversation, do you think forcing him to stay will help? Don't you think it'll make things worse? You want to be blown to smithereens on your second day, Mr. MVP?" Mizuki asked the male and he opened his mouth to counter, only to not find any words to do so.
"He's had a tough day, leave him be. We have the entire year to get to know each other. He's a piece of work. You'll have to be patient," Mizuki informed them calmly. Though, she knew that the chances of Katsuki opening up to anyone was less than zero.
"Um, Mizuki-san." Mizuki looked at Ochaco. "Deku-kun and Bakugou-kun has known each other for a while, right? What exactly happened between them?" She asked and Mizuki raised an eyebrow. The female had quite the balls to ask her such a personal question.
Mizuki let out a dry chuckle and crossed her arms behind her head. "Who knows? My brother had never liked Izu-kun and I doubt things are going to change, especially now…" Mizuki trailed off, her eyes saddening and averting to the ground.
Katsuki's inflated pride was practically destroyed by the happenings of the day. He had to find his starting point from here on out while Izuku had to find a way to take in Katsuki's emotions in recognition. Stomping on them wasn't going to help.
"I got it!" Mizuki was brought out of her deep thoughts, her red eyes blinking at the empty space on her desk. "Whoa! Look at these drawings!" Kaminari exclaimed and Mizuki felt her blood run cold, her head turning slowly to the back of the classroom.
No.
"Are these our costumes? Amazing… She drew it in such detail and even added possible adjustments to fit our quirks," the male known as Tokoyami said in awe as practically the entire class gathered around the notebook.
Fumikage Tokoyami
Age: 15
Quirk: Dark Shadow
No. No.
"Whoa! I never thought about these things! I think I want to do my costume over!" Mina pointed out as she read the part of her costume where the adjustments were written down. Everyone was amazed at the female's talents.
"NO! Don't look!" Mizuki exclaimed and snatched the book out of their grasp. She breathed heavy as she pressed the book to her chest, closing it beforehand. Her face was completely red from a mix of anger and embarrassment. They saw it. They all saw her designing!
"Mizuki-san, you don't have to be ashamed. Those are really good! I never knew that you could design like that! Is it your hobby?" Ochaco asked and Mizuki swallowed thickly. She shifted her grip on the book and nodded.
"Y-Yeah. But these are only drafts! It's not meant to be seen by others!" She stated, her tone not coming out the way she had hoped. The students all sweat dropped at her very unexpected cute behaviour.
"But they're still pretty good. You should be proud of them. I love the ideas you had for my costume," another female known as Jiro said with a small smile. Mizuki's eyes widened when she saw everyone nod in agreement and she bit her bottom lip, a faint blush forming.
Kyoka Jiro
Age: 15
Quirk: Earphone Jack
"Uraraka, Kaminari, I want you to come and help me with some documents," Aizawa suddenly spoke up from behind and everyone jumped in surprise. Mizuki glanced back at the male that appeared out of nowhere, his expression as worn out as always.
"Yes, sir!" Ochaco replied and Kaminari joined her side. Aizawa then walked out with the two students following them. Mizuki let out a breath she didn't know she had and then pulled her bag onto her chair.
Katsuki was on his way home and she promised she would meet him at the gate, not expecting everything that happened. She put away her designing book and then her text books assuring that she had everything.
"Are you leaving already?" She looked up, crimson eyes matching. "I guess you did say you'd meet Bakugou by the gate," Eijiro said with a small saddened smile. Mizuki gave him a bright smile and nodded.
"Yeah, but today was interesting. Besides, we still have school the entire week. You'll see me again tomorrow," Mizuki told the male with a wink and slung her bag over her shoulder. For some reason it felt heavier than before, then again, she was tired after the busy day.
"I know that those were only drafts but…I really liked what you did with everyone's costumes. It was super cool," Eijiro said with a big grin and Mizuki flushed. What a guy. She would've thought that he would hesitate to talk to her after the way she cut him down with her commentary. Yet, he seemed always wanting to come back for more.
"Well, I'm heading out. See ya!" Mizuki waved off as she exited the room. She heard a few goodbyes and chuckled. The year started off with her missing her two crazy friends, not knowing how she would communicate with those in her class. Though, it looks like everything turned out for the best.
She thought about Izuku as she continued down the hall. She hoped that his injuries were healed and that he had recovered. She wanted to see him before she went home but some things couldn't be helped.
Mizuki felt her phone buzz and took it out of her jacket's pocket. She paled at the many messages she received from Rinako and Akira. She was as good as dead. She hadn't talked to them for two days straight. She was a terrible person.
She made a mental note to contact them as soon as she got home. She would have to skip dinner to do some catching up. She was curious to find out how their school was going, if Akira found her eye candy and if Rinako stayed awake in classes. She missed them.
"Took you long enough." Mizuki nearly dropped her phone at Katsuki's sudden voice and she gave him a disapproving look. "Let's go." He turned around and walked off, Mizuki putting away her phone and running towards his side.
"Sorry about that. I had a little…problem that I had to sort out. It's all good now," Mizuki told her brother and he grunted, his hands pocketed by his sides. She resisted the urge to tuck in his untidy shirt and swallowed down her pride.
"How's your nose?" Katsuki asked, not glancing her way but his eyes visible to Mizuki. He was being sincere despite the uncertainty that dwindled in her crimson orbs. She was relieved that he was actually talking to her.
"Oh, it's fine. Recovery Girl healed it up for me," Mizuki replied and he grunted once more in reply. Mizuki averted her eyes towards the ground, hating the tension in the air. She took a deep breath and then looked at her brother.
"What about you?" No reply. "You haven't made any smartass comments the entire day long." No response. Mizuk clicked her tongue and clenched her fists. She was about to give him a piece of her mind until he looked up.
"I lost to Deku." Katsuki scowled. "I was reckless and lost. I acted like a villain." Mizuki frowned, not liking where this was going. "You… You beat the half-and-half bastard that I thought I wouldn't be able to beat."
"Katsuki-"
"But! I won't be ever losing again, you hear me, Mizuki?! I won't lose to Deku! I won't lose to you! I won't lose to that Half-and-half Bastard! I'm going to become the number one hero!" Katsuki yelled at her, Mizuki staring at him as his crimson eyes quivered, tears threatening to fall.
She was worried for nothing. After everything that happened, Katsuki finally found a turning point. He knew what his weaknesses were and he was facing them head on. Mizuki gave him a warm and comforting grin.
"I know you will," she said and ruffled his hair, the male scowling at her. He hit her hand away in annoyance, Mizuki snickering as a result. Katsuki was going to be just fine. He was going to be more than fine. He was going to be the best.
"Want a handkerchief, Crybaby?"
"Shut up," Katsuki snapped at her and didn't accept the soft cloth she held out to him. He rubbed his eyes with his sleeve, Mizuki whining in protest. She pouted and pocketed her handkerchief with a grumble.
"Kacchan! Mi-chan!" Izuku's voice had both of them stop. The green haired male came running towards them, his hero costume torn. His right arm was in a sling while his other arm was covered in bandages.
"Izu-kun…" Mizuki murmured while Katsuki gave the male an irritated look, causing him to stop in his tracks. Mizuki blinked a few times and then sighed. "I'll give you two some privacy. I'll meet you at our usual 7/11." Mizuki waved and walked on.
Izuku looked at his best friend as she walked off. The smile she had on his face didn't go unnoticed as she continued. The tension in the air was the two rivals stood a few feet apart. Katsuki was annoyed while Izuku swallowed thickly.
It's a secret I didn't tell my Mom or Mi-chan… But… "There's one thing I feel like I have to tell you," Izuku said and averted his eyes towards the ground. "My Quirk is something I received from someone else."
"Huh?"
"I can't say who I got it from, though! I won't say…" He trailed off as his brows knitted together. "But, it's like a story out of comic books, except it's true. On top of that, I still can't control it properly. It's just a borrowed power that I haven't made my own yet."
"That's why I tried to beat you without using it." A vein palpitated out of Katsuki's head. "But in the end, I couldn't win and had to rely on it. I still have a long way to go. One day, I will make this Quirk my own and beat you with my own power!" Izuku declared before he realized what he blurted out.
"What the hell is that? 'Borrowed power'? You're talking nonsense. What are you trying to do, make me out to be more of a fool than you already have? What are you trying to say, huh?" Katsuki gritted his teeth as he felt his emotions swell up in his chest.
"Today, I lost to you… That's all it was… That's all… You, Mizuki, that ice guy, you were all better than me today! But listen carefully! I'm just getting started! You hear? Here, I will become number one! You won't beat me again, Bastard!" Katsuki snapped, turned around and walked to leave.
Katsuki didn't let his emotions drive him to tears this time. He had a feeling that Mizuki felt his little outburst, yet knew she wouldn't listen in. She didn't interfere today and kept her distance to show that she respected their fight. Nevertheless, he still hated that she was friends with Deku.
Unfortunately, he had a feeling that it was never going to chance.
