Tetra woke up, it was raining heavily. She quickly looked around and realized she was on the roof of a tower.
"Ganondorfs!" She gasped. It was clear this was not Hyrule Castle's roof; it had to be Ganondorf's.
Quickly looking around her, she saw water was all around them like walls and the rain was pouring down at a very quick speed with lighting and thunder above. Looking around, she saw Link! He was still lying down on the ground she thought unconscious. What had happened to him? In front of Link was someone else, Ganondorf! He was standing with his back to her and Link and she could hear him despite the heavy rain laughing. He was laughing bitterly and manically like everything he had dreamed about was shattered now. A cold chill went down her spine. Link now was stirring and had gotten to his feet though he was gripping his left arm like it was in pain. Looking at Link fully, she saw he did not have the Master Sword in his possession. Tetra looked around and found it was right next to her impaled in the ground!
Looking at it, she saw it was glowing and its hilt looked different. Link had restored it to its true form! Grabbing it, she walked slowly toward Link; she was surprised he could carry it in one hand. It was a pretty heavy as Tetra needed to use two hands to carry it. As she did so, Ganondorf seemed to realize Link and her were awake despite his back facing them. He spoke rather calmly, but Tetra could sense the anger in his voice.
"This is foolishness…A future…for you?" he asked in an incredulously mocking tone, but clearly full of pure anger.
Tetra had her confidence back and knew fully what her ancestor meant by Link needing an ally as she walked closer to Link. Link heard Tetra behind him and turned around to face her still holding his left arm with his right arm gripping his teeth together, he looked in pain Tetra could tell. Feeling like her true self since the last time she encountered Ganondorf and wanting to show Link the pirate and person in her was still all there and always would be, Tetra fired back at him with her own mocking voice.
"What are you laughing at Ganondorf?! You're insane!"
Link's eyes were narrowed, but he looked determined as Tetra slowly came closer to him, but he was smiling slightly seeing her ok. Holding the Master Sword with both her hands she looked right at him smiling back and winked at him just as she had done before. It felt great to Tetra to see Link again.
"Link, I'm sorry, I overslept." Tetra said sarcastically. Her ancestor was right; they needed to return to their ocean above. She wanted to go back to the Great Sea with Link and with the King's wish coming true; it was not the time to be in Hyrule. Tetra knew her and Link's future was not here, it was in their world above.
Looking right at Link, The Hero of Winds she added,
"I think it's time we say good-bye to this place. We must return to the world above! Back to our ocean!"
Link was softly smiling hearing this knowing she was ok and that Tetra was truly herself again and seemed to not care at that point if his arm was hurting as she handed him back the Master Sword. He gripped it in his left hand and then readied his shield in his right hand facing Ganondorf. All that mattered to Link now was that Tetra was alright and stopping Ganondorf once and for all. Ganondorf then calmly raised his arms with his back still facing both of them and he spoke again in a calm voice, but there was cold fury behind every one of his words.
"Very well, then…Allow me to show you."
He drew out two matching Katana swords holding them facing toward the sky. The same swords he had drawn out against Link in the Forsaken Fortress. The same swords he was ready to kill Link and Tetra with here. He spoke again in the same calm but beyond angry voice.
"Your future..."
Tetra then remembered what her ancestor had told her, Link needed an ally to fight Ganondorf.
"Yes allow me to show you."
But she didn't have a weapon or anything to help Link…She could try her energy attack but then it hit her what she needed to truly hurt Ganondorf, he had been naïve enough to tell her even by accident, she watched the Hero of Time use them against him.
"Just what hope you have…"
Tetra remembered that her ancestor had given the Hero of Time the light arrows to help him fight Ganondorf… Tetra then instinctively grabbed Link's bow off his back and his quiver of arrows he had on him. He looked at her not with a look of shock by what she was doing, but rather a look of full understanding of her actions. Tetra felt her energy channeling itself into the bow with Link's light arrows. Any second now, Ganondorf was going to turn around Tetra thought as she held the bow aiming it toward him. She would use her energy on these light arrows and launch them at Ganondorf to cover Link.
Ganondorf then spun around and the look on his face was beyond chilling. He was smiling, but it was clear what his intentions were. He was going to try and kill both of them here and now. Tetra remembered what her ancestor had said when Ganondorf transformed into Ganon, he was more interested in killing the Hero of Time than obtaining the Triforce. He had the same intentions here with both of them.
"See how much your precious Triforce is worth…" Ganondorf said facing both of them. His words now less calm, but the anger in his words was undeniable. Tetra then remembered some of Ganondorf's last words when he was being sealed in the Sacred Realm from her ancestor's memory. "THAT IS THE DAY I WILL EXTERMINATE YOUR DESCENDANTS!" That day was here. It was either Link and Tetra killed Ganondorf or he killed them. Any potential mercy Ganondorf had planned on giving the two was gone once the King had made his wish.
Link and Tetra looked at each other for a brief second. Link had on his face the same look the Hero of Time did when he was looking right at Ganon after he had knocked the Master Sword out of his hands in that final battle Tetra noticed. It was a look of pure courage and determination. He was ready to fight and knew just how difficult this was going to be, but he was not afraid. They both nodded at each other.
Ganondorf leapt in the air toward the two! He was incredibly more agile than Tetra thought. Both her and Link dived to the side going opposite directions to avoid him. Tetra yelled toward Link over the pouring rain and thunder.
"I'll use this bow to cover you! Attack him as best you can!"
Link nodded and then saw Ganondorf had decided he would start trying to kill him first, the hero who had risen to stop him just like the Hero of Time did.
He swung his matching swords toward Link, but Link had his shield up and was ready and blocked them. Tetra watched as she could see Link tried to counter Ganondorf, but his attack was rebuffed by Ganondorf rather easily. She noticed that Link was not being reckless either as the two continued trying to find a hole in the others defenses. Tetra also noticed Ganondorf had no honor in fighting. He would do whatever it took to kill Link. He tried to kick him down, but Link was calm and seemed to make sure he defended first before attacking; Tetra noticed as well Link seemed to be keeping Ganondorf away from her. She had the bow ready to fire, but was concerned she could hit Link instead.
Finally Ganondorf did a quick and brutal sword attack and got a cheap hit on Link near his chest, Tetra gasped a little, but Link seemed to brush this off. He rolled around to the side of Ganondorf and swung his sword toward him, but Ganondorf once again had managed to block this attack. He countered Link and Link was once again hit by Ganondorf. Tetra knew the time was here for her to help Link.
Concentrating her powers, Tetra pulled an arrow back on the bow and watching it glow brighter by the second; she aimed at Ganondorf who had his back toward her. She waited, she didn't want to miss. Ganondorf once again slashed toward Link but Link this time had managed to block Ganondorf's attack. Just as Ganondorf went to slash at him again, Tetra fired the arrow.
It was a direct hit on his back and Ganondorf glowed brightly for a split second. He was shaking Tetra could tell in tremendous pain. Link instinctively charged at Ganondorf and just like the Hero of Time, unleashed a violent series of sword slashes onto Ganondorf. Ganondorf though quickly recovered and blocked Link's next few sword attacks. Link backed flipped to avoid Ganondorf's vicious retaliation. Ganondorf leapt into the air again towards Link. Link dodged this and tried to counter but Ganondorf once again blocked his attack.
Link continued to hold his ground though. Ganondorf again slashed at him, but this time Link had reacted quickly enough and propelled himself over Ganondorf and managed to land a strike on Ganondorf. Ganondorf collapsed for a second as Link landed a second powerful sword strike on him, but Ganondorf quickly rose back up and blocked Link's third strike at him.
The two continued trying to land blows on the other, but Link seemed to have work far harder for any opportunities compared to Ganondorf. Tetra repositioned herself and readied another arrow and waited for the right opportunity. She found she naturally was really good at handling a bow and arrow. Once again with his back to her, just as she had done before, she fired the arrow right as Ganondorf had tried to attack Link. Once again, success on Tetra's part as Link once again unleashed a series of vicious slashes on Ganondorf's vulnerable body.
As Tetra readied another arrow, she couldn't help but wonder why Ganondorf had not noticed her doing this twice. She patiently waited for another clear shot and got her opportunity. She fired another arrow and once again hit Ganondorf, though this time he did not shake with the same agony. He looked right at her now. He knew Tetra had hit him the other two times as well and had had enough of this. The look on his face was one of cold fury.
Jumping in the air toward her, Tetra tried to shoot him with another arrow, but Ganondorf dodged it and he was now right on top of her! Link was running desperately to get between Tetra and Ganondorf but he was still too far away! Tetra tried to avoid him but Ganondorf took his hand and brutally backhanded her in the face! The pain Tetra felt at that moment was unconscionable. Tetra felt everything go black and fell immediately to the ground!
"ZELDA!" Link shouted running toward Tetra's body. He looked at Ganondorf beyond enraged!
Link charged towards Ganondorf in anger and quickly unleashed a rapid fire movement of sword slashes and managed to land a strike driving Ganondorf away from Tetra for the moment. The two again traded sword strikes and Link at this point didn't care how hurt he would end up or if he died to Ganondorf. He had to know if Tetra was alive. He had to protect her and keep her alive at all costs.
Ganondorf managed however to land a brutal kick on Link for his reckless charge toward him that sent Link flying backward. Link fell for a brief second but steadied himself quickly. Ganondorf then said to him mockingly.
"What is the matter child, the Hero cannot handle his precious Zelda getting hurt?"
Ganondorf then turned back toward Tetra's limp body. He was standing next to her now.
"I guess now we'll find out your true courage!" He raised his one sword ready to end her, the same thing he was going to do to Link at the Forsaken Fortress before Tetra saved him, a malevolent smile on his face.
"NOOOO!" Link yelled beyond emotionally and he charged at Ganondorf at full speed! Ganondorf anticipated Link would do this and readied himself to send a fatal blow to the boy but Link was ready for it, his eyes narrowed and he in that moment refused to fail! He was not losing Tetra. Link leapt in the air, avoided Ganondorf's swords and landed a hit on Ganondorf and then with all of his energy and might fiercely drove Ganondorf backward away from Tetra with a furious volley of quick violent sword strikes! Link never had in any of his other battles a moment like this. The spirit of the hero fully awakened fully inside Link in that moment! He didn't know though what this new energy inside him was or how it came to be, all he knew was he was not losing Tetra.
Ganondorf was far enough away now recovering from Link's attack that Link quickly dropped to his knees next to Tetra; he knew he had only seconds to do anything! She was facedown but there wasn't enough time for him to flip her over. Tetra wasn't moving at all!
"No, no, no!" Link breathed rapidly. He didn't have time to check for a pulse or for the beat of her heart.
Link immediately pulled out of his pocket a corked bottle. Inside was a fairy, his last defense. He didn't hesitate. He uncorked the bottle and got to his feet and ran back toward Ganondorf to keep him away from Tetra. Link did not want the fairy to waste its powers to heal him, only Tetra mattered.
"Wake up Zelda, please wake up!" Link pleaded in his thoughts as he charged toward Ganondorf and angrily drove Ganondorf even further away from Tetra. His demeanor now was one of pure focus; he refused to allow Ganondorf to win. Link would die if it meant Ganondorf did as well and Tetra lived.
Link and Ganondorf once again unleashed their swords at each other though now Link was the one who was managing to land a few hits and was blocking more of Ganondorf's attacks than before. New energy had appeared inside Link ever since Ganondorf attacked Tetra. Ganondorf no longer was smiling. He was more enraged than ever at the mere thought this child could actually defeat him. He had vowed he would not lose again to the Hero, especially one younger than the Hero he did lose to.
Suddenly, Tetra woke up! She quickly shook the water out of hair. She felt absolutely no physical pain that she had experienced from Ganondorf's attack. How did this happen? She desperately looked around to find Link. She saw Link and Ganondorf continuing to fight not too far from her. The look in Link's face was unrivaled she thought. She grabbed Link's bow she had dropped and readied another light arrow. Timing it just right, she fired at Ganondorf. It was right online and then suddenly Ganondorf leaped in the air just as he was blocking Link's attack and avoided the arrow!
Link shot a brief glance toward where Tetra was and he breathed a small sigh of relief she was ok though still had enough sense to quickly raise his shield to prevent Ganondorf from possibly ending him then and there. Tetra then ran to another spot and waited. She would get Ganondorf this time. Preparing another arrow, she waited and the timing was perfect as she watched. Ganondorf was being driven backward by Link's fearless sword strikes, there was no way he could avoid this Tetra thought.
She fired the arrow, Ganondorf almost unimaginably leapt again in the air at the perfect time and landed behind Link and managed to land a rather nasty strike to him, knocking him down! Tetra gasped. Ganondorf was smiling again, he knew their strategy perfectly now and was not going to fall for it again.
"Amazing how two kids still stubbornly try to fight the same way again and again and do not learn from the past and that fool of a King believes you deserve a future!?" Ganondorf yelled mockingly toward the two.
Link was now close to Tetra after being knocked back by Ganondorf's attack. Tetra looked at his shield he was holding for a second. It was different than the one he had previously. It was like a mirror, like how her ancestor had turned the ocean waves to show Tetra her memories. She wondered, it was now their only chance she believed…
"Link you have to distract him!" Tetra cried out to him. Link looked right at her.
"Are you ready?! I'll aim for you and you use your shield! Do you get it?" She prayed Ganondorf had not heard her.
Link nodded slightly before instantly having Ganondorf right in his face again angrily slashing at him, trying to slice his face clean off! He was beyond determined to kill Link! There was pure hatred and insanity in his face looking at the boy. He had failed to kill the Hero of Time. Ganondorf was going to kill this new hero and would not rest until he did. He was the reason his plans had failed just as the Hero of Time ruined his original plan.
Tetra waited patiently, she only had two arrows left. She needed to make them count. Running to get into better position, she waited and finally the perfect opportunity came! She could see Link's shield was facing her but Ganondorf had his back turned to her. This was it, this was the moment. She fired the arrow.
It reflected off Link's shield but Ganondorf dodged the arrow and the arrow now flew toward Tetra! Tetra got out of the way at the last second. Ganondorf was still smiling and even laughing a little. Link had lowered his guard for a brief second looking to see if Tetra was alright and Ganondorf then landed a brutal sword strike on Link this time on his back and the pain Link felt was unreal! He landed hard on the ground face down and was struggling to get up! He wasn't even moving now!
"Link!" Tetra cried out terrified for him!
Ganondorf smiled and now went toward Tetra. She had one arrow left and he would easily dodge it she thought. It was just like the Forsaken Fortress. He was going to kill her and Link this time and there was no one to come separate them from Ganondorf again. He was nearly towards her, she had her last arrow charged and ready to fire it at Ganondorf though she felt hopeless knowing it would do no good; his swords were ready to strike her.
Tetra wanted her last image though if she was going to die to not be of Ganondorf but of Link. She looked toward him on the ground and suddenly he looked up, their eyes met and he gave a slight nod to her, his teeth clenched. She knew what he wanted her to do. It was their last chance…
At the last second, she fired the arrow not at Ganondorf but towards Link and right as she did, Link leapt up and sprinted holding his shield up charging towards Ganondorf as fast he could! The arrow hit Link's shield and reflected off of it heading towards Ganondorf. Ganondorf spun around facing Link but before Ganondorf could react, the arrow was already inches from him and hit him squarely in the chest! Ganondorf yelled in pain and raised his right sword and swung it down towards Link ready to slice him to ribbons! Link just as the sword came down on him rolled to his left to avoid Ganondorf's sword, struck Ganondorf before he could retaliate and leapt into the air yelling as he did all in one quick motion! Ganondorf readied his swords to counter and end the boy once and for all as he was defenseless in the air! Link was holding the Master Sword facedown with both hands as he fell downward with pure fury in his face and plunged it right into Ganondorf's forehead! Tetra gasped in shock!
A bright light erupted for a moment and Link with all his might held the Master Sword in Ganondorf's forehead. Ganondorf could not move then said bitterly with a small laugh smiling as Link held the Master Sword firmly in his forehead.
"Ughn...Heh heh… The wind…It is blowing."
Link leapt off the sword and Ganondorf. Ganondorf quickly started to turn to stone covering his entire body and swords he was holding!
Link stood there for a few seconds staring at Ganondorf's stone body. Reality finally hit him. He had done it! He had defeated Ganondorf, the King of Evil…for good!
Link gave a massive sigh of relief and then immediately grabbed his left arm in tremendous pain nearly falling over.
"Link!" Tetra cried running over to him! He then collapsed from exhaustion and pain and Tetra grabbed him with both arms to prevent Link from falling to the ground. He had to be ok she thought, her eyes closed. She could feel a massive number of deep cuts and some rather brutal long deep gashes on his body. His face was covered in cuts and gashes. She held him tight for what felt like hours to her and refused to let him fall to the ground. She heard someone approach and looked up, it was the King of Hyrule.
Tetra lifted Link's head up and forced him to look at the King too. Link's eyes opened. She let out a gasp of pure relief. The King of Hyrule then spoke rather somberly,
"My Children…Listen to me. I have lived regretting the past. And I have faced those regrets."
Link and Tetra just continued to look up towards him not knowing what to say.
"If only I could do things over again…Not a day of my life has gone by without my thoughts turning to my kingdom of old…I have lived bound to Hyrule."
"In that sense, I was the same as Ganondorf" he added sadly staring at Ganondorf's now stone body with the Master Sword lodged in his forehead.
Looking back toward the two of them, he spoke again. Link seemed to have steadied himself now on his own two feet and no longer needed Tetra's support to her relief.
"But you…I want you to live for the future. There may be nothing left for you…But despite that you must walk a path of hope, trusting it will sustain when darkness comes."
Closing his eyes, his head down a little, the King of Hyrule said sadly feeling like the biggest failure in the world.
"Farewell…This is the only world your ancestors were able to leave you…Please forgive us…"
Tetra looked down sadly her hands together; she knew what the King of Hyrule was saying. Tetra had heard his wish, for Hyrule to be flooded and be forgotten, for the past to be done with. To end this endless cycle just like her ancestor had told her once and for all. That Tetra and Link could have a future outside of the fates they had been destined to have and that it was ok to have this feeling of freedom. Tetra longed to go back to her own ocean and set sail again, but not have this happen. An idea then sprang to her.
" !" she exclaimed. The King opened his eyes and looked at her with an unreadable expression on his face.
"You could…You could come with us! Yes of course …We have a ship! We can find it! We WILL find it! The land will be the next Hyrule!" Tetra passionately stated smiling slightly. It could work she thought, no it would work.
"So…" she looked at the King hoping her words had convinced him.
He didn't say anything, but then his face broke into a warm smile. He closed his eyes. Tetra had never seen the King smile before. He then spoke rather gently to her.
"Ah, but child…That land will not be Hyrule."
Tetra looked shocked.
The King then said loudly and proudly to the pair.
"It will be YOUR land!"
The rains then pelted down rapidly and suddenly the tower roof was now completely flooded! Both Tetra and Link now were encased in what looked like air bubbles. The King of Hyrule was not! Tetra already was floating upward. She reached her hand downward trying to grab the King but was way too far out of reach. He was just standing there eyes open looking at the pair. Link now started to float upward as well. He with his left arm tried to reach out to the King. The King of Hyrule reached his right hand upward towards Link's outstretched hand, there was a chance… He then suddenly pulled his hand back and Link shot upward toward the surface. The King put his hand down and his eyes were closed.
"No!" Tetra yelled in her bubble, but she knew the horrible truth immediately. The King had decided to drown with his kingdom as well, for the past to be completely forgotten. Her and Link were floating upward rapidly toward the surface, away from the King and Ganondorf's stone body with the Master Sword still impaled in it. Everything went dark for Tetra and Link. They both then heard the King's voice say something. How?
"I have scattered the seeds of the future."
Both Tetra and Link woke up though they had no idea how long it had been. They were floating somewhere on the Great Sea. Tetra noticed immediately she was wearing her pirate clothing again. Her tan was back just as her hair was now the way it had always been before. It was like she was free of all of her burdens of the past. They stared around looking at their surroundings and then suddenly, a young Rito boy was flapping his wings right above them and had a joyous smile on his face as looked down at them. It was Prince Komali of the Rito Tribe, one of the two who had saved them at the Forsaken Fortress! Link and Tetra stared at him. He then moved his chin upward indicating for both of them to turn around. Tetra then heard Gonzo yell out,
"Miss Tetra!"
Link and Tetra both turned around in shock. Right behind them was her pirate ship and all of her crew was waving to them! Nudge, Senza, Mako, and Niko all were waving at them. She saw Link looked up towards the crow's nest. Zuko was up there looking through his telescope but someone else was up there and was waving down to them, Link's little sister Aryll! Tetra saw Link look up and saw his sister.
Tetra was eyeing Link. He had a look of pure happiness on his face. Tetra winked and started waving back towards the ship a huge smile on her face as well; Link then joined her in waving back. He had never looked happier and at peace. Two others were on the ship now Tetra could see. Another Rito, this one a girl and the other a small little plant like creature. Tetra didn't even need to question who they were. She could sense who they were. The new Earth and Wind Sages!
Niko was waving to them and ready to help them board and now Prince Komali was helping both Link and Tetra on board the ship. Aryll came down from the crow's nest and then sprinted toward Link. She rushed him and hugged him tightly.
"Big Brother!" she cried, tears now flowing down her cheeks. She gasped and looked horrified seeing how Link looked with all of his injuries. Link put his arms around his little sister in a strong caring hug holding her tightly just smiling down at her like his injuries didn't matter in the slightest to him. He just closed his eyes knowing his little sister was truly safe.
Tetra was herself now struggling to keep her emotions in check seeing this. She turned toward Gonzo who was beyond relived to see her.
"Set sail for Outset Island!" She declared.
"Aye-Aye Miss Tetra!"
Tetra smiled. Her main goal was about to be accomplished. One she had vowed she would accomplish. They were going to return the brother and sister to Outset to be reunited with their family!
