Chapter 19: Miss Magix

In Magix, Bloom and Brandon were sitting at a café with Lady and Kiko by their feet.
"These are incredible dreams you're having. So every night this nymph reveals herself a bit more? She calls you by name and her voice sounds familiar?" Brandon asks seeing if he got everything right.
"She even looks familiar too, I don't know why." Bloom admits.
"Maybe you've seen her before." Brandon suggests.
"That's not the point, every night it's like a new version of the dream. It's like she's trying to show me the way." Bloom said as they stood up.
"Do you think it's because you found out you're a fairy and not a normal girl?" Brandon asks leashing up Lady.
"Why do I have these powers and why do they come so easily to me? Daphne, the nymph that's calling to me she keeps trying to tell me something but I don't know what and she keeps insisting I find this crystal." Bloom explains.
"Daphne?" Brandon said interested.
"When I looked her up in the library there were a ton of books but when I went back they were gone." Bloom explains.
"Hmm then I think we need Timmy's help. I'll ask him to look into Red Fountain's library, but Bloom this thing with your powers, Ragnar is actually going through the same thing." Brandon said.
"Ragnar has powers? He never showed them before." Bloom said interested.
"He just seemed to unlock them and he's having trouble working with them. Since you're new to your powers you think you can help him work things out?" Brandon asks when Lady started pulling. "Whoa Lady calm down!"
"Sure, I'll help. Tell Ragnar to stop by Alfea the next time he's available." Bloom said.
"You're the best." Brandon said when Lady yanks him away. "Gotta go, see ya later Bloom."
"See ya." Bloom waves before picking up Kiko. "Here that Kiko I'm not the magic newbie anymore." Bloom smiles causing Kiko to laugh.
The next day at Red Fountain, Ragnar was eating lunch with Brandon, Sky and Timmy as Brandon told them about his talk with Bloom.
"So this woman has been talking to her every night in dreams?" Ragnar asks.
"It's the truth guys." Brandon said.
"Well that's a new one." Sky said.
"I guess I can check out the library later today. Just write down the name and I'll have a look." Timmy said.
"You the man, Timmy." Brandon smiles.
"So Ragnar, what's been going on with you? Bringing the heat lately?" Sky smirks.
"Trying to, you can only get so far from watching dragons." Ragnar said sipping his drink.
"Maybe you should stop by Alfea. The girls are always learning magic, maybe you can get some advice from them or the teachers." Timmy suggests.
"At least they can speak human." Brandon chuckles as they all laughed.
"Why not, with exams coming up and our big exhibition I need to get these under control." Ragnar said.
"Don't tell you're actually thinking of performing in the exhibition Raggy?" Turning around they saw Riven standing across them and instantly the four them glared at their old teammate.
"So what if I am?" Ragnar asks causing Riven to smirk.
"Last year the only thing you did for the exhibition was to bring supplies to the ones who did compete, literally everyone but you." Riven mocks.
"I'm not the same person I was back then Riven. I'm stronger." Ragnar said.
"You of all people should know that." Brandon smirks as they all remember Ragnar beating Riven.
"The way we see it, the only student we should be worried about embarrassing us is you." Sky points causing Riven to growl.
"However if you're willing to apologize we'll let you back onto our squad." Timmy offers.
"Never." Riven said walking away.
"That guy is more stubborn than every dragon we've got here." Brandon said.
"Agreed." Ragnar said finishing up his lunch. "Well I'm gonna head over to Alfea."
"Tell Bloom I said hi." Brandon said.
"Sure thing buddy." Ragnar said standing up.
"So what's the name of this person Bloom is looking for?" Timmy asks.
"She said her name was Daphne." Brandon said causing Ragnar to pause.
'Daphne? That's the name of the woman who visits me in my dreams. It couldn't be.' Ragnar thought walking away.
At the stables, Ragnar looks to Toothless but just when he was about to walk over, he heard a whimper.
Looking over he saw Hookfang feeling a little down.
"What's a matter Hookfang? Don't like being cooped up all day?" Ragnar asks as Hookfang shook his head. "Hey bud do you mind if I take him out today?"
Toothless looks to Hookfang and nods his head saying his friend needed it.
"Thanks Toothless." Ragnar said climbing onto Hookfang. "Alright Hookfang let's fly!"
Grinning Hookfang roared as he rushed out and they took to the skies.
As they flew off, Riven was watching them and narrowed his eyes not liking this one bit.
At Alfea, Bloom was walking around looking for something when she opened the stables to see Crystal, Cloudjumper, Siren, Windshear and Lagoon inside.
"Hey guys." Bloom said getting their attention.
Roaring softly Cloudjumper moved in and nuzzled her.
"Aw thanks Cloudjumper, but have any of you seen Stella? I can't find her anywhere?" Bloom asks but they all shook their heads. "Where is she?" Bloom asks herself when she heard wings flapping.
Walking outside she saw Ragnar fly in on Hookfang and land nearby startling a few girls.
"It's okay girls, he's harmless." Ragnar said causing Bloom to smile as she walked over.
"Well who is this new friend?" Bloom asks.
"Actually he's an old friend. This Hookfang, he was uh…well Riven's dragon until he you know." Ragnar sighs.
"Oh sorry." Bloom said feeling guilty.
"It's not your fault, Riven chose to walk away from us." Ragnar said letting Hookfang in with the other dragons.
"So Brandon said you have powers now?" Bloom asks.
"Yeah it's crazy. I never had them before and now they come so easily." Ragnar said.
"I know that feeling. Here help me find Stella and we can talk." Bloom asks.
"Stella in trouble?" Ragnar asks worried.
"No, I don't think so. She said she was feeling ill but when I went to the Nurse, she said Stella never showed up." Bloom said.
"That's weird. Is anything going on?" Ragnar asks as they started walking.
"Just exams." Bloom said.
"Maybe it's just test anxiety." Ragnar shrugs.
"Possibly but she could have told us though." Bloom said.
"Our exams are coming up too and I really want to try to learn more about these powers." Ragnar said.
"Well lucky for you no one knows more about being a late bloomer with powers than yours truly." Bloom smiles gesturing to herself causing Ragnar to chuckle.
At their dorm room, all the Winx except for Stella were sitting around when Bloom and Ragnar walked in.
"Hey Winx, we have a visitor." Bloom said as Ragnar waves.
"Hey girls." Ragnar smiles.
"Ragnar." Musa smiles.
"What are you doing here?" Flora asks.
"Bloom's giving me a little helping hand, but I think right now you girls need the helping hand." Ragnar said.
"What do you mean?" Tecna asks.
"Stella didn't go to the infirmary, so she wasn't feeling ill. In other words she decided to skip Palladium's class." Bloom said.
"I wonder why she's acting like this. The test wasn't even that hard." Flora said.
"We all aced it. What is she afraid of anyway?" Musa asks.
"Beats me." Ragnar shrugs.
"Running away won't solve your problems. Sooner or later she needs to take the Simulation Test." Tecna said.
"I thought maybe she was with Crystal or with her nose in a book but I couldn't find her anywhere." Bloom said.
"Maybe she's in her room." Ragnar said.
Walking over Ragnar knocks on the door, but got no answer.
"Stella?" Bloom opens the door and they both smelled something amazing. "What's that smell?"
"Infinite Sunset. My new perfume do you like it?" Turning around they saw Stella in a beautiful new outfit.
"Whoa, Stella you look amazing." Ragnar said causing Stella to giggle.
"Why thank you." Stella smiles while Musa narrows her eyes at this.
"What on earth are you up to? We had the simulator test today. Palladium was expecting you." Bloom said.
"He's got other students to test he can wait a little bit. I have more urgent matters." Stella said as Flora walked over.
"Like what?" Flora asks.
"The Miss Magix contest." Stella said.
"What's that?" Bloom asks.
"It's a beauty pageant to determine the most beautiful girl in the Magix realm. Last year I came really close to winning." Stella explains.
"That's ridiculous, Stella how can you consider a beauty contest more important than school?" Tecna asks.
"Besides everyone knows they just pick the person with the best looks." Ragnar said.
"Yeah that's true, I've seen that." Musa agrees.
"Oh please. If you guys help me with this, I'll study really hard for the exam." Stella begs.
"Oh alright." Bloom said.
"Yes! You'll see it's just an innocent beauty contest." Stella said.
"Innocent? Please. Every time we go into town, we never have fun." Tecna said.
"True we always end up running into those nasty witches." Flora said.
"Or Dragons and even Dragon Hunters." Ragnar adds.
"Don't worry I know from well informed sources we won't have to deal with them." Stella said.
"So much for getting your help." Ragnar said turning to Bloom. "You girls are gonna be busy all day."
"Well if learning more about your powers is so important you can come with us and we can continue our talk there." Bloom offers.
"Ooh good idea Bloom." Stella said hugging Ragnar from behind. "You can help cheer me on."
"Me…watch you…in a beauty pageant." Ragnar said nervously as his face turned red.
Meanwhile, at Cloud Tower, Lucy and Mirta were talking in their room.
"But Lucy think about it, it's a Beauty Contest where Magic is prohibited. You can't ask Icy, Stormy and Darcy to help you with a trick it's not right. It could even be dangerous." Mirta warns.
"Listen I want to take part in that contest and I wanna win. So what if I can't use magic. Icy, Darcy and Stormy are so powerful they can do anything. Whatever they set out to do they always achieve their goal. For them it'll be a no brainer to turn me into a stunning beauty queen. Even if the real me could never win such a contest." Lucy frowns. "Everyone will be looking at me, Mirta. For once I'll be the center of attention. Don't you understand?"
"N-No I don't. Lucy you don't need—"
"Oh get lost!" Lucy interrupts. "I'll tell you what I don't need! I don't need you or anyone else telling me what to do!"
As Lucy storms out of the room, Mirta looks to her friend extremely worried.
That night in Magix, Ragnar and the girls were walking towards where the pageant was being held and saw it was in a big building.
"Yeah I don't see this going bad at all." Tecna said sarcastically.
"Come on, Griselda will never know." Stella said running in.
"That girl really need to get her priorities in line." Musa said.
Turning around Musa saw Ragnar talking to Bloom.
"So you've only had these powers for a few weeks?" Bloom asks.
"Yeah, they didn't show up until I finally stood up to Riven." Ragnar said.
"Weird and you're sure nothing weird happened to you before then?" Bloom asks.
"The only thing that I did before was when me and the guys came to help you girls clean up Alfea." Ragnar said.
"Wow, so for most of your life your powers laid hidden like me." Bloom said.
"Tell me about it. Where were these when I tried out for Red Fountain?" Ragnar asks.
Bloom looks at Ragnar and remembers all the times Riven mocked him and beat him up.
"I know what it's like being the new person with powers, but now that you have them you can learn to control them." Bloom said putting a hand on his shoulder. "The first step is concentrating and having faith in yourself."
Ragnar looks at Bloom and smiles. "Thanks Bloom."
Inside the Trix walked down the halls.
"Ready for the show?" Icy asks.
"Are you kidding? What are we doing in a dump like this?" Stormy asks.
"Sisters today we are here to do a good deed." Icy said confusing them. "You remember Lucy? She asked me to help her win the contest."
"That girl must have a few screws loose." Darcy mocks.
"She doesn't need us; she needs a miracle." Stormy laughs.
"It'll be fun, you'll see." Icy assures.
"What did you have in mind?" Darcy asks.
"She wants to win the contest and she will. We will make her secret dream come true and then we'll smash it to rubble." Icy declares getting their attention. "We will cast a spell that would make her irresistible and when she's crowned Miss Magix we'll break the spell and the scam will be exposed center stage. She'll be totally humiliated."
"Icy that's brilliant." Darcy smiles.
"A very entertaining evening." Stormy smiles.
"I always have good ideas." Icy said as they met up with Lucy. "You ready?"
In Stella's dressing room, Flora, Musa and Tecna were helping Stella get ready while Bloom and Ragnar were sitting down across from each other.
"Now watch me. What learned is that a lot of my magic can come from my emotions so try thinking of something that motivates you." Bloom said holding out her hands and a small ball of orange magic appeared.
"Motivates me?" Ragnar pauses thinking about his Red Fountain buddies, the Winx, Toothless. Taking a deep breath Ragnar held out his hands and an identical ball of orange magic appeared.
"You did it!" Bloom smiles.
"Yes!" Ragnar grins pumping his fist when the fire shoots out causing Bloom to yelp and leap out of the way. "Oops sorry."
"You two okay over there? We don't want you two to burn the whole place down." Flora said.
"Maybe we should stop for now." Ragnar suggests.
"Good call." Bloom agrees when they heard a loud sobbing from outside.
Walking out Bloom and Ragnar saw a girl with puffy hair like a disco ball sobbing.
"What am I gonna do now?!" She sobs.
"I'm sure we'll find a solution." Her friend said.
"What's wrong?" Bloom asks as she and Ragnar walk over.
"A catastrophe." The friend said.
"Look what happened to my hair. Normally it's so straight but when I was walking down the hall it suddenly puffed up like this." She sobs.
"It's so bad." Ragnar said reaching out but when his hand touched her hair it started to bounce causing him and Bloom to cringe.
"How did this happen?" Bloom gulps when the Winx pop their heads out and see her.
"What is that thing on your head?" Stella asks causing Ragnar and Bloom to facepalm while the girl ran out sobbing her eyes out.
As she made her way to the exit, the Trix walk out to see her.
"Nice hair." Icy mocks as Bloom and Ragnar peeked their heads out.
"Bloom, I think we just found your answer." Ragnar glares.
"The usual suspects." Bloom glares as they made their way back to Stella.
Soon it was time for the Miss Magix competition and the Presenter entered in a fancy white suit.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, a warm and magic welcome to this year's edition of the one and only Miss Magix Pageant! Tonight, fifteen beautiful young women will battle for the title. We all know the rule: no magic! All curses and spells are strictly prohibited and will lead to disqualification. This contest is a celebration of natural beauty! What could be more enchanting, ladies and gentlemen? And now, here they are!" He said as the contestants walked out onto the stage in matching pink outfits.
"Number 1: Miss Loni! Followed by Miss Heidi! Number 3: Miss Lesta! Number 4: Miss Agween! Number 5: Miss Bera! Number 6: Miss Stella!" The Presentator said as Stella walks out.
"Whoa, Stella really looks good." Ragnar said impressed.
"She really wants this win." Bloom said as Musa crossed her arms.
'I bet if I was out there in a pretty dress Ragnar wouldn't take his eyes off me.' Musa thought.
"Number 7: Miss Lee-Hona! Number 8: Miss Karen! Number 9: Miss Sabatha! Number 10: Miss Lucy!" Walking out was a disguised Lucy and she was breath taking. Long black hair, flawless skin and a beautiful face.
Needless to say the crowd liked what they were seeing.
"Please Ladies and gentleman." The Presenter said.
"We have created a masterpiece." Icy smirks as the Trix were sitting in the front row.
"Number 14: Miss Neoxis! And number 15: Miss Nadia! A warm round of applause for all our contestants!" The Presenter said as all the contestants waved to the audience before walking backstage.
"Did you hear the audience's reaction when number 10 came out?! I'll never win!" Stella whines.
"Stella, it just started you have plenty of time." Ragnar said.
"Ragnar's right Stella, besides it's only a game." Bloom said.
"But where's the fun if I don't win?" Stella said in a huff.
Behind them the curtains open to reveal Lucy.
"Hey congratulations, they like you a lot." Bloom said but Lucy just ignores them and pushes past her and Ragnar.
"Hey what's the deal?" Ragnar asks but Lucy ignores them. "That was weird, we complemented her and she did this."
"Yeah something strange is going on." Bloom said.
"The contestants must also be nice and show some class!" Stella yells at Lucy.
"Uh Stella." Tecna points.
"Oops." Stella said covering her mouth.
"Ladies and Gentlemen, the first even of the evening is the Talent competition! Each young woman will demonstrate her particular skill! Beautiful and talented, ladies and gentlemen, please welcome contestant number five! Miss Heidi and her talent is athletic-cubica!" The Presenter said as Heidi came out in a gymnast outfit multiple cubes of different sizes sprung up around the stage.
Leaping into action Heidi did a series of flips and jumps from one cube to the next.
"Icy this one's actually kinda good." Stormy said.
"Yes, but she should watch where she's going." Darcy said as her eyes glowed and the landing mat glows purple for a few seconds before the contestant lands on it and is launched high into the air before crashing down causing the Trix to burst into laughter.
"Ooh that's gotta hurt." Ragnar cringed.
"Guess she didn't have her angles right on that landing." Tecna cringed.
"I guess we should move on. Uh, our next contestant is Miss Agween!" The Presenter said as she walks out on stage in a white fur coat to a cabaret song.
"I got this one." Icy said as her eyes glowed and the contestant's heels turned to ice and she slipped and fell off the stage.
"And now, our next victim- I mean, next contestant: Miss Lesta and her Holoclaves." The Presenter said nervously.
As the next contestant started throwing juggling pins the audience started to cheer.
"It's like this girl is asking for it." Stormy said waving her hand and the pins come down hitting the poor girl on the head multiple times.
Needless to say, the other acts thanks to the Trix did not go well.
One tried to sing but Darcy ruined her voice, they made one girl's doves attack her, another girl was chased out by dogs, one got tied up in her own rings and the last one fell through a hole in the stage. While everyone else was worried the Trix were laughing themselves out of their seats at this.
"We will now take a short break, before resuming the competition." The Presenter said nervously.
"Yeah, a short break or else I'm gonna have to break his neck." Icy said as the Trix laugh.
"Is it just me or are this Beauty Pageant really turning ugly?" Musa cringed.
"Tell me about it." Ragnar said watching them pull the girl out of the hole in the stage and patch it up.
"I may not know much about pageants but don't the contestants usually work hard to make sure disasters like that don't happen to them?" Flora asks.
"They started off good, but then something happened to make them mess up." Tecna said.
"I hope Stella is better prepared for these girls." Bloom said as the Presenter walked back on stage.
"Welcome back, Ladies and Gentlemen, and now a performance from the great ballerina, Miss Lucy!" He said as Lucy steps out in a ballerina outfit.
As she danced around the stage everyone was in awe as sparkles shined from Lucy before she did her grand finale finishing a flawless routine causing Lucy to smile.
"Oh, Lucy, don't thank us, the best is yet to come." Icy smirks while the crowd burst into cheers.
"A magnificent performance from Miss Lucy! Bravo! Bravo! Now, our next contestant, Miss Stella and the dance of happiness." The Presenter said as Stella stepped out in a cowgirl outfit.
As she started to dance around the stage Ragnar, the Winx and the entire audience started to cheer for her.
"Sisters! This is serious, we've got to do something about this!" Icy said.
The Trix tried everything falling stage lights, cracks in the floor, but Stella dodges them all causing the Trix to really get mad.
"The last word hasn't been said yet." Darcy said as her eyes glow purple for a second.
"A few comments please, Miss Stella." The Presenter asks.
"Yppah yrev ma I yletulosba." Stella said confusing her as to why.
"But of course, she can speak backwards! She said: "Absolutely, I'm very happy." We have here a truly gifted young woman." He said causing Ragnar and the Winx to cheer loudly.
Soon the pageant was over and all the contestants were lined up.
"How about a nice round of applause for all of our contestants?" The Presenter said receiving an envelope with the winner in it.
"Cross your fingers." Bloom said as they all held their breath.
"And the new Miss Magix is…Miss Lucy!" He announced causing the crowd to cheer.
Frowning Stella watched as Lucy walked up recovering her sash and tiara.
At that moment Lucy was so happy when suddenly Icy's eyes glowed and Lucy reverted back to her normal form shocking everyone.
"Wait, that's Mirta's friend." Ragnar said recognizing her.
As the crowd booed her Lucy had her crown and sash taken from her before she ran out crying while the Trix walked out laughing.
"As a result, the title of Miss Magix, goes to contestant number 6, Stella, princess of Solaria." The Presenter announced as everyone clapped for her.
"Number 6? That's me." Stella smiles.
"Congratulations, Stella! You're the most beautiful young woman in the magical dimension!" The Presenter announced as she got her tiara and sash.
"Thank you! No words can truly express my joy at this moment!" Stella smiles.
As Ragnar looks to the girls they all smiled and cheered.
After the pageant, Stella ran over.
"I did it!" Stella said hugging Ragnar with joy.
"Uh yeah you did." Ragnar blushes.
"Ragnar you gotta stay. We gotta celebrate." Stella said when Bloom clears her throat. "Bloom, do you have a sore throat?"
"Do you have a memory problem? We had a deal, girl, after the contest, studies. You were supposed to study all night long." Bloom reminds.
"What?" Stella whines.
"A deal is a deal Stella, besides I got some studying of my own to do." Ragnar said letting go.
"Sorry I didn't teach you much." Bloom said.
"You got me started Bloom, for now, that's enough." Ragnar said walking away. "Good luck girls, let's talk after we finish our exams."
Back at Red Fountain, Ragnar and Hookfang land at the stables.
"So Hookfang how did it feel to stretch your wings?" Ragnar asks as Hookfang roars happily.
As Ragnar lead him back into his area he stretched his arms before looking to Toothless who was fast asleep.
"Looks like someone had a nice night." Ragnar smiles as he was about to walk out to see Riven by the door causing him to narrow his eyes.
"Hey Ragdoll." Riven glares.
"Riven, been awhile since we talked." Ragnar said.
"I saw you took my dragon out today." Riven said.
"Hookfang isn't your dragon anymore Riven, not since you walked away from our squad." Ragnar said.
"Who died and made you the one charge of all the dragons?" Riven asks.
"You cannot treat people like how you treated us and just expect us to do nothing! Why do you hate me so much?!" Ragnar asks.
"Because you're a loser! You passed the entrance exams by pure luck and you went an entire year being a wimp and then that stupid lizard shows up and suddenly you're not a loser anymore?" Riven asks.
"News flash Riven people change. I changed for the better while you chose to change for the worse. Teaming up with the Trix what do you expect to get out of this? They'll bring you down Riven and they'll toss you aside to save their own skin." Ragnar said.
"I don't need lectures from you." Riven said.
"Clearly you do. We were your team, your friends and you walked out on us without a second thought." Ragnar said pushing past Riven and walking to the door. "Remember when you handcuffed me at the Black Mud Swamp?" Ragnar stops getting his attention. "You actually apologized to me for that. For a brief moment, you didn't hate me or wanna hit me. I actually thought you wanted to be a good teammate…guess I was wrong."
Hearing this Riven felt a twinge of guilt as Ragnar turns to look at him.
"We're the Specialists, you, me, Sky, Timmy, and Brandon. We always had each other's backs but you turned your back on us and now that's what I'm doing to you." Ragnar said walking away leaving Riven to feel horrible about himself and his choices.
