Inuyasha: Existence!
Chapter 9: Rivalry.
"Thanks, Rin!" Y/N cheered happily after being given something to eat. It was in the afternoon now and she, Sesshomaru, Rin, and Jaken were all sitting around a tree that just so happened to be in the village somewhere. Rin gave them...apples and bananas, oh the irony. The song flooded into her head and she nearly spat out what she chewed, at recalling that stupid little old meme of a song. Sesshi knew it was ok to visit this village, he knew someone here that allowed other demons in.
"Y/N, does it taste bad?!" Rin's eyes began to grow worried until she saw the young woman shake her head no. Smiling, the child giggled with closed eyes and nodded.
Swallowing, Y/N patted down the food with her fist and exhaled from the lack of air in her lungs. In her hand was a juicy red apple and next to her was a banana. She was sitting on a rock next to the tree while Sesshomaru was leaned up against its base to her side, with folded arms and closed eyes. Jaken was seen chowing down on the fruit away from them, hiding behind the said tree and eating several bananas.
"You know... We've been eating a lot of fruit, not that I'm complaining, but it'd be a nice change to eat some fish or something," In between chews she stated, looking off to the side with a sweatdrop. Again, that stupid image of Obsidian coming to mind made her stomach churn when she mentioned a change... "N-Never mind..." she was barely able to swallow what she already had chewed up and gagged at the thought.
Some light taps echoed from the direction Y/N's head faced and she saw a muscular man who seemed to be around his twenties or so, walking towards them. He had pointed ears, long black hair, he was dressed in pitch black hakama and his narrowed eyes expressed seriousness. The same village man who Sesshomaru frightened was walking behind him, quivering. Y/N could see that he was a demon... Just by looking at his appearance and the vibes she got.
A katana was attached to his hip in its sheath, it was clear to her that he was skilled in swordsmanship. His red eyes took note of Sesshomaru, the little girl, the imp who was hidden behind the tree and...Y/N. Seeing the young woman made his eyes widen and him to halt in his step, mouth going agape. He was stunned, taking in her appearance and seeing her gorgeous alien eyes that seemed to have enchanted his very being. Both he and Y/N stared at each other for a moment, her gawking at him with a risen brow and him faintly blushing at her.
The lord of the western lands cracked open an eye and could smell his scent, he was indeed a demon. Now they were both open and his eyes narrowed, soon he trotted on over to the man. "You're the chief of this village... I take it...?" he asked, snapping the man clad in black, out of his trance.
"Yes, my lord. I came over to see what all this was about. Something about a foreign human girl being with you? Someone human other than that child there, I never expected to see traveling with you," He smirked and looked back over at her, only to hear the lordship speak up.
"I have my reasons for letting her travel with us... Don't interfere," Sesshi's low, threatening voice sounded as he lowered his face, allowing the shade to cast over his golden eyes.
"Interfere...? I wouldn't even dare... My apologies, I'm Chief Yogu Hanai. Come, I'll treat you and your comrades to a feast, I'm sure the young lady over there is growing tired of eating fruits," he introduced himself with a respectful bow to the western lord and kept that smirk present. "What brings our land's ruler to this village, of all places?" he asked as he walked towards his dwelling. Sessho, Y/N, Rin, and Jaken all followed behind and the young woman continued to eat that apple.
Her beautiful e/c alien eyes watched with curiosity while she walked by Sesshi's side and Rin stayed beside his other. The imp, however, was eyeing each human villager who gawked at their lordship in awe. "Yogu..." Y/N snorted and covered her mouth, stifling her giggles and causing the Chief to look over his shoulder at her.
"Hm? Is there something the matter?" Yogu questioned with his stoic features, despite his faint flushes on his straight face.
"N-No..." she tried hard to keep from laughing... To her, his name reminded her of Yogurt only without the RT at the end. Chief Yogurt...pft! she continued in her mind and kept giggling to herself.
As soon as the Chief faced forward once more, he came across his home and opened the door. "Here we are, my lord," With that, he held the door open for Sesshi and everyone else as they walked in. The inside was rather small but comfy at the same time and villagers were soon running in after they made themselves comfortable, carrying food inside. It was as if the Chief knew Sessho preferred things raw because half of the things they brought in were dead and fresh... It stunk, Y/N tried so hard not to show disrespect by covering her nose and cringing.
The other half of the food was cooked meat and vegetables, she mentally thanked the divines that they didn't have to eat dead things. There was cooked beef, chicken, peas, green beans, potatoes and the like; while the other half consisted of raw beef, raw chicken, cow limbs and other kinds of things that made her nearly puke. "Help yourselves," The Chief stated and gestured to the food, he too chose to sit down and eat; oddly enough he chose to eat the raw food with Sessho...
Of all things gross, seeing both Sesshomaru and Yogu eat the raw food...was the worst thing she'd ever seen. Hesitantly Y/N looked at the others, seeing Rin eat a cooked potato with cooked meat and Jaken munching down on Vegies. It felt awkward...really. I don't know if I can eat any of this... How can I, when the villagers were forced to bring in food? What if this was all the villagers had to survive on...? Damn, I can't just eat this with a clear conscious! In her head she complained and exclaimed, closing her eyes shut to try and not look.
"L/N, eat something. It is disrespectful to my lord Sesshomaru!" Jaken rose his voice and pointed his finger, while his other hand held a carrot.
Y/N snapped out of her thoughts and looked over at the imp, soon seeing everyone else stare at her confusedly. "Oh, uh... Sorry... It's just, I'd...feel bad for eating any of this. What if this was all the villagers had to survive on...?" Y/N replied and frowned, feeling guilt pile up on her heart with each passing second.
"It would be insulting if you didn't eat anything, miss. If this was all they had to spare currently, then eat as little as possible to show them that you at least enjoy their hospitality," Yogu explained with a grin and chuckled, finding her consideration to be very sweet. Her being worried about other people's well being like that made him grin.
Y/N blinked, then peered down at the food before her. A small smile formed on her lips and she nodded, taking some food off the wooden platters, the foods were sitting on. She still felt bad, but what could she do? She couldn't just not eat and insult the people of the village, nor could she not eat when she hasn't had anything decent in a little while; so she obliged...
"Do tell me...miss. L/N, right? What brings such a lovely, considerate woman like yourself, to travel with our lordship? Where did you come from and what clothing is that you're wearing?" The Chief was curious, as he bit down on to a raw leg from a goat, he leaned over curiously towards her and grinned.
"Personal business that requires others to stay out of..." Sesshomaru answered for her, making Hanai frown and glance his way. Sessho, who was eating raw beef, glared dangerously at Yogu and was sitting in a cross-legged position.
"Ah, forgive me, " he paused and swallowed his food, then sighed. "You see, I've been needing to find a bride for some time and no woman has caught my attention yet. My father demands that I find someone, so I've been searching. L/N seems to be just who I'm looking for thus far, I want to know more about he-" before he could finish, Sessho ran him over with his words.
"She is needed for more important things. Search for a woman elsewhere..." Sesshi growled and narrowed his golden eyes, giving off intimidation towards the Chief. Y/N sat there wide-eyed at the dog demon, he's never acted like this before... At least, not from what she recalled from the anime. She couldn't remember really but, just seeing Sesshi grumble darkly at Yogu almost felt like he was being protective. It was weird. Then again...who wouldn't want to protect the only living being who's the only one that can kill the future threat? She sighed in her head and sweatdropped.
"I see. I'll leave it at that, then..." Yogu frowned and nodded, then took a sip from some of the water he was given. Just before he could speak up again, Obsidian came walking through the doorway and was seen smiling his Sebastian smile. Yogu froze, soon glaring at the dark redhead as he sipped at the water. "Obsidian... You, again...?" he asked with an annoyed voice. Y/N took notice of the odd stare-down those two were having, even though Obi was blind... She noticed blood trickling down his mouth, only for him to lick his lips to clean it off.
"Yes, forgive me. I had to eat, one of your villagers sufficed though," As if on cue, he was slammed against the wall by the Chief's bare hand. Obi remained unfazed by the brute force, he just stared confidently at Yogu.
"How dare you lay a finger on one of my villagers...!" Hanai exclaimed in a low voice and was literally face to face with Obsidian, who only kept his smirk present.
"Why make a fuss over humans that you're ruling over? That is one thing I never understood about you, Yogu.~ A demon assisting a human village and being their Chief, it makes me wonder what strings you had to pull to convince them to stay," Obi's face lowered to let shadows veil over his blind, closed eyes and his lips parted a bit.
"I promised the villagers I'd protect them, as long as they fed me every day and informed me of who enters my village... I don't suppose you would know what that's like, do you...? Since you go around drinking people's blood like the bat you are!" He rose his voice and banged the batman against the wall more, furiously with his monstrous strength.
"Oh dear, did I strike a nerve? Hmhmhm.~" Obi chuckled, only to make the Chief growl darkly. Sessho had enough though... Outside of the home, both Obi and the Chief went flying out of the house comically and landed in some mud.
Sesshomaru who came walking out of the home had glared daggers at the two who seemed to act like rivals; which wasn't a huge surprise to him, seeing that he knew how Obsidian was with people. "We're leaving..." he plainly said. He didn't want to risk Y/N or Rin getting hurt considering what happened last time with that weird, blob guy. Y/N rushed alongside Sessho with a small piece of meat in her hand. Rin and Jaken did the same, only Y/N's alien e/c eyes lingered on the two curiously as she followed along.
'Those two know each other?" She asked, looked up at Sesshi but never received an answer. She sighed and grumbled, before looking over her shoulder at the bickering two far behind them. Seeing Obi wave his hand goodbye to the irritated Chief and run to catch up with them, she could feel his eyes on the back of her head... As if on cue, she sidestepped to avoid a hug from behind.
Obsidian frowned with disappointment, whining playfully and lightly blushing. "Y/N, why can't I have a hug?" he whined, pouted and put his arms back underneath his closed wings.
"Because you drink human blood... I don't want to be the next victim," she averted her eyes with a sweatdrop and got closer to Sessho.
"So cruel... I wouldn't dare,~" he hummed teasingly and smiled, blushing at her from behind as Rin and Jaken got in front of him. Apparently, those two didn't like him either and that only made Batman grumble even more, with another frown.
