Caroling Conundrum
Singing was heard through Dizzy's window early in the morning and she groaned, tossing her pillow over her head to block out the noise. After King Ben and Queen Mal decided the Isle was meant for villains who are found guilty after 'proper trial', her mother was almost immediately sent back after a more recent attempt at Cinderella's life. Now with her grandmother nowhere to be found, she happily lived with Evie and Doug in the cottage.
The couple took baby steps in their relationship with a capital B. If it wasn't for her suggesting Doug moving into the extra room, not that he used it often, they never would have made a move at all.
The singing grew more persistent and louder than Dizzy's giddy daydreaming about Evie and Doug's possible wedding scenarios.
She grumpily sat up from the bed and headed to her window where she could see the front door below.
A group of similarly dressed people stood by the door singing, their crescendo only rising in volume by the second.
"Agh." She groaned again, wiping her hand over her face. School was out for the holidays already so she wasn't supposed to be up this early. She left her room after slipping on her glasses and made her way down the stairs, not caring to muffle her footsteps even if it meant she'd wake the couple in the Master Bedroom.
The singing was even louder on the first floor. With a harsh frown, she went into the kitchen and took the largest pot she could find. With difficulty, she took it off the top shelf and dropped it on the sink with a clang.

Evie gasped as she sat up, disentangling herself from Doug's arms in the process.
He groaned in protest. Their alarm hasn't gone off yet.
"Did you hear that?" she asked with her hand on his bare shoulder. He always did prefer to sleep topless, and she loved it. She fought down the blush that threatened to decorate her cheeks when she realized he wasn't just topless this morning. They both inadvertently slept naked due to their activities last night.
"Mm. Carolers." He reached up to lightly tug her hair. "Come back to bed."
Evie slowed her breathing and quieted herself, a technique she learned while living on the Isle to pinpoint any stray noises. There she heard a harsh clang which came from the first floor.
"Dizzy!" she tumbled out of bed, scrambling to get her bearings in order. She didn't know why, but she felt something was wrong.
Very wrong.
She hopped around the room, struggling to get one leg then the other in her pajama pants as she tried to locate her shirt. When she couldn't find it, she pushed Doug onto her side of the bed to get his shirt and dashed out of the room barefoot.

Evie spotted Dizzy in the living room, hair loose and eyes focused, strenuously pulling a pot on the floor to the front door. "Good morning," she greeted, taking hold of the pot on the other end to discover it was filled with ice-cold water.
"Oh, hi! Please help me, let's go." She resumed pulling the pot toward the door.
"What's this for?" Evie pulled the pot back away from Dizzy, much to the latter's annoyance.
"The noisy singing outside. They woke me up." She pouted for good measure, knowing Evie would understand. The intruders were on private property.
"Dizzy…" she shook her head. "It's tradition."
She tilted her head to the side. "What is?"
"The…" she paused to consider her words then decided to directly quote the young girl, "noisy singers. It's part of the Auradon holiday season."
"What kind of sick tradition is that?!" The Isle was mostly bad, but even the early morning proved a good respite for everyone.
"I…" she cleared her throat, not wanting to divulge she had a similar reaction the first time she encountered carolers too.
"Bring us some figgy pudding and bring it right here," the carolers continued to sing.
Dizzy stomped her foot on the floor. "Demanding little…"
"That's just how the song goes… um…"
"We won't go until we get some~ We won't go until we get some, so bring the pudding right here."
"That's it!" she whirled, leaving the heavy pot behind and headed for the front door. "You sacks of goblin parasites!"
Evie stretched out her fingers and pulled the other girl by the collar. "I'll get you some coffee." She wrapped her arms around the girl's shoulders. Coffee will wake them both up.
When Dizzy was in the middle of draining her mug, she saw Doug head for the front door. "What did you do?" she asked him when he joined them in the kitchen. "The singing stopped!"
"I gave them some of Evie's cookies."
"They're beggars?"
He turned to his girlfriend still drinking from her own mug and determined she was still not fully awake yet. "No. Most do it for fun to spread the holiday cheer."
"By waking people up?" the young VK grumbled, her lips hovering over her steaming coffee.
The half-dwarf tilted her mug up, urging her to finish drinking like Evie was doing. "Most people are already awake at this time. Since it's the holidays, everyone is excited to be doing one thing or another." Of course, that rule didn't apply to VKs which was why he adopted the practice too.
The blue-haired girl placed her emptied mug on the counter with a sigh of relief. "Dizzy."
Her spine straightened at being regarded that way.
"Be careful next time, okay?" She was used to Mal's temper and even Jay's occasional anger management struggles, but if anyone else heard or saw Dizzy before she had her morning coffee, they wouldn't be so understanding.
She nodded.
"Honestly, you do know what could have happened if you went with your plan and threw freezing water over their heads?"
"They certainly wouldn't be demanding for figgy pudding, that's for sure," she mumbled, her mug hiding her lips and her eyes focused on the mug's contents.
"Dizzy!"
Doug laughed.
AN: 'Til next time!
