Duality

(Still don't see my name when I load any Naruto game, only have my own characters. Enjoy)

There were a lot of things that Kotetsu enjoyed in his home, talking to his mother was possibly his favorite on account of how close they were. "Whatever you little shit just get that trash out before you go." A woman in a slate grey apron that covered her plain white shirt that only had one sleeve was yelling at her son from down a hallway.

They'd practically been the best of friends since he could talk and they showed it whenever they talked. "Fuck you it'll go out when I get it out." To anyone who didn't know the mother and son however they'd think they couldn't stand being in each other's presence. The boy left the house with their kitchen's bag of trash in hand and threw into a dumpster on his way to his destination. 'Been a long year but things are looking a lot better as of today. Damn teachers!' Kotetsu was getting wary glances and being given distance as he walked down the streets of carved stone. He looked over his black long sleeve and pants and shrugged off the looks. 'I'm not dressing to impress anyway.'

He reached his destination and looked at it with some nostalgia, the other preteens going inside did their best to ignore him in fear for their own safety. His shinobi academy is where he needed to be today and the only thing that mattered to him was making sure he wasn't late. He went inside and walked right into his classroom and sat down in the center of the middle row, and reflexively everyone scooted away in their chairs. A man wearing a red flak jacket over a black long sleeve came into the room a few minutes later with a clipboard in hand. "So this is our graduating class, kinda normal looking this year. Anyone here have a kekkei genkai?" Kotetsu was first to raise his hand while two boys and a girl followed. Another proctor appeared from the hallway and motioned those four to follow him.

They were brought to a large stone room and were separated and placed against the four separate walls of the room. The two boys were looking at each other while the girl was eying him with the way they were all arrayed then their proctor cleared his throat to get their attention onto him. "Alright so I want you all to demonstrate your abilities in this free for all, you'll use everything at your disposal to do your best and make it out on top. The last one standing will be a definite pass and the others I'll judge based on performance."

Kotetsu took his time to size up his competition as their proctor raised his hand. 'I know the girl's got iron release so the two boys should just have lava style on them… Easy.'

"Begin!" The boys and girl looked at each other and nodded before looking at Kotetsu and charging, the girl was on him first and unsurprisingly converted her right hand into metal then thrusted her fist at him. He dodged the attack with a simple sidestep then weaved the snake and rat signs.

The girl's eyes glossed over and she froze in place as Kotetsu used his left hand to carefully set her onto the ground. "Magen: Narakumi no jutsu." Kotetsu ran his hands through his black hair and looked at the two boys who were weaving hand signs.

"Katon: Endan!" Both boys sent a burst of flames from their mouths and when they merged into one the proctor was prepared to intervene.

Kotetsu smirked and flew through his own seals to land on tiger. "That's not a fireball, this is a fireball!" He inhaled. "Katon: Gōkakyū no jutsu!" He exhaled a fireball that was just as big as the one that was headed his way, and when the two collided there was a small explosion that made the two boys cover their eyes due to the heat.

When the heat subsided Kotetsu was rushing for the pair with fury in his eyes. One of them moved to intercept while the other started another jutsu, once Kotetsu met his quarry he dodged a jab and returned one straight into the boy's solar plexus knocking the wind right out of him, and leaving him open to be slammed onto the ground. "Yōton: Sekkaigyō no jutsu!" The last one against the raven haired youth spat out a glob of yellowish-white fluid and ran to flank Kotetsu. He pulled out a kunai when Kotetsu leapt over the attack and continued charging. The boys met each other and while Kotetsu reached his right hand out his quarry thrusted his weapon, but when the two met there was no sound of a blade entering flesh but instead metal against metal. The pain in his wrist let the boy see that what he thought was Kotetsu was only an illusion and that this entire time he was contending against the girl with iron release. 'How the?!' The kunai shattered and she grabbed his throat in his shock, and introduced him to the floor in a violent choke-slam. 'When did he put a genjutsu on us? Wait… the fireball!' The boy's last moment of full consciousness was spent realizing that Kotetsu tapped out of having to fight after he and his partner covered their eyes in protection.

As soon as the ground had a small crater in it the girl managed to come to her senses and see that she was standing over her unconscious ally. She looked around to see Kotetsu standing there with a blank expression on his face. She looked around the room to see the other forced ally she had "I-I'm a girl so you have to take it easy on me."

"I'm an advocate of gender equality." He weaved bird, snake, monkey, and finally the ram seals and smiled at the girl who decided to charge at him since he had no intent of going easy. "Raiton: Raikyū!" Three balls of azure lightning formed ahead of Kotetsu and fired off, striking the girl in her left arm, stomach, and upper torso in quick succession. The girl was on her back with smoke coming from her outfit and only then did the proctor decide to call the match.

"The victor has been decided." The man walked to Kotetsu and pulled out a hitai-ate which the boy gladly took and walked off with, leaving the man to assess the remaining kids. Of course Kotetsu didn't see that as his problem and immediately went back to the classroom where multiple students stared at the accessory in his hand.

"Of course you'd pass first try, don't bother sitting down since you aren't getting on a team just yet."

The raven haired boy was flabbergasted at those words but he decided to stand there for a few moments until there was a knocking sound by the door. "Oi Baka-tetsu!" The voice that stated that name was possibly the only person who was allowed to do it and be left perfectly unscathed. A girl with black hair was at the door and she was wearing a closed beige jacket and black shorts with white wrapping that covered her legs, a tanto was on her lower back and her hair was in a bun. "I got sent here for ya! Don't make a lady wait." She turned to leave so Kotetsu rolled his eyes and followed her, this time the class focused on the hitai-ate sewn into the sleeve of her jacket as they left.

"So can I know why the hell you had to come get me Shiro-chan?" The boy was putting on his new accessory as they left the building and started walking through the streets, he managed to comfortably place it around his left arm by the time his escort decided to respond to his question.

"Tsuchikage has some news for you personally." Her voice was full of cheer as they reached a tall building and stopped.

Kotetsu facepalmed once she decided to tell him what he was being taken from the academy of Iwagakure for but he was more concerned about something that regarded the delivery of this information. "Why the- Why'd you wait until we got to her building to say that?! Of course I'd figure out why you had to get me by now!" The girl only smiled as she opened the main door to the tower that rested in the center of their village. "Why do you have to be such an annoying girl? I mean more annoying than most girls."

"Because I'm not scared of you like everyone else, especially since you can't beat me." She curtly stated while they moved towards the office of their village leader. "So how'd you do in your graduation exam? You passed but I wanna know, how'd you do it?"

Kotetsu clicked his tongue in annoyance. "If you must know… I just used a little of my kekkei genkai to control the fight, even my proctor didn't know he was under it."

"Why'd you have to use genjutsu? You only had to go against some other kid."

"Uh we had a free for all. There was me, two boys with lava style, and a girl with iron release. I used the Hell Viewing technique on her and had her fight as me while I rested on the floor."

Shiro turned to look at him right after they passed a shinobi seated at a desk who cleared them to pass. "That's not right… You should've had a one on one match, who was the-"

"Oburona-dono." The girl turned to see a man with a brown flak jacket over his asymmetrical gray short sleeve. "The Tsuchikage is waiting." He gestures for the door that they'd been standing beside for a few moments. The two managed to completely forget their conversation and went into the office with Shiro leading the way.

The circular office had a large window behind the chair which currently held their current Kage who was staring right at them as they entered. Kotetsu could feel the atmosphere thicken some once Shiro went to stand beside the desk. "Well Kotetsu, congratulations on your graduation to Genin rank. Now you only need a Jonin sensei to teach you."

"Lady Sixth I have to say that I'm confused about why I'm here then. The teams get assigned at the academy." He looked her in the eyes but not as a challenge, perhaps due to her far outclassing him or him not wanting to incur her anger.

The woman behind the desk chuckled at his genuine cluelessness before she decided to respond. "That's because a Jonin from another village decided to come here to train you over the summer. For all your natural talent I hope it won't be a waste of his time for this since he's grieving the loss of his wife." Kotetsu groaned at that which only made his Kage raise a brow. "Something you'd like to share?"

"Gomenasai, but Lady Sixth but I don't want a teacher too focused on crying to teach me anything. I think I'll take a Jonin from our village instead."

Again the Tsuchikage chuckled at the boy's words but this time she decided to let Shiro give her input on the situation. "I dunno Kotetsu-kun, I kinda like his son."

A feeling that Kotetsu had forgotten since he earned his response of fear from those around him shot through him and he didn't do his best to show how he felt in that moment. "Who has the balls to bring competition for me?! I'll fucking end him!" Another chuckle was heard in the room but this time it was masculine, Kotetsu snapped his attention to the source of the sound and drew a kunai. "I hope you don't think that just cause you're a Jonin I won't take your fingers off!" His eyes flashed from coal black to red with three marks in his iris.

"Believe me Kotetsu the only thing you'll lose is some dignity if you try to hurt me outside of training. Besides is that any way to greet your uncle after so long?" Kotetsu squinted to take in the features of the man that was nonchalantly seated on a lounging chair in the office and he managed to figure out who this was ahead of him, and he put his weapon away once the name of the man came into his mind.

"Akira-ojisan…"

Kotetsu and his mother were seated at their table sipping tea while Zeko was seated on Shiro's lap calmly reading a scroll. "So Zeko-kun how's the academy in Suna treating you?"

"They moved me up two whole years, Kirya-obachan, I'll be a genin once I'm ten." The boy said as he somehow managed to read his jutsu scroll and have Shiro scratching his hair while Kotetsu calmly sipped his tea.

Kirya scoffed at the statement and looked at her raven haired son. "If only this lazy son of a bitch would've taken his exam sooner!" She slapped her son in the back of his head and nearly made him spit out his drink.

"You just called yourself a bitch, bitch!" She tried to hit him while he was deflecting each strike with his own hand. "Aah! Stop it! I'm trying to enjoy my drink!"

"Shiro-nee, is this normal? Kaa-chan is never mean- She… she was never mean to me…" The attention of everyone at the table shifted to Zeko, Shiro continued to rub his scalp while Kirya stopped trying to hit her son.

"I'm sorry for making you think about that Zeko-kun, and yeah it's normal for me to treat my son like this. He knows I still love him even though he's talented but lazy as all hell."

Akira decided to appear in the doorway with a small grin on his face and all he did was motion for the two boys to follow him. Zeko begrudgingly got off Shiro's lap while Kotetsu drank the remainder of his drink in one go. The trio quickly left and made their way to a reserved training ground in a clearing among one of the small forests. Akira sat cross legged on the ground and inhaled gently as the cousins did the same. "First things first we're going to understand each other as Uchiha." His eyes changed to their three tomoe form. "I'll start by telling how I first awakened my own eyes."

Zeko leaned closer to listen to this story on account of him not having received a proper answer for how his father managed to awaken his sharingan in the last three months he spent training his own. "I'm listening, Akira-ojisan."

"I was about twelve at the time."

A platinum blonde boy and a brown haired boy were standing side by side in front of six shinobi clad in white masks, their outfits were dark with blue accents on them and they all were wielding tanto blades. "One set of eyes and a candidate who can make more, I'd say this is a good mission." The brown haired boy had eyes that were pale and without pupils, instead having enlarged irises that had veins pointed towards them that started at his temples.

"Hitoshi-kun, if you can watch my back I'll be able to get two of them in one go." Akira pulled out a fuma shuriken and planted it into the ground.

Hitoshi moved into his jūken stance with a serious expression on his face. "So long as you're in my sight you won't get hurt again." Akira rubbed his bloody forearm and charged at the taunting masked shinobi. He threw a wide arced punch that the shinobi sidestepped and prepared to counter.

"All that talk and you missed."

Akira smirked at the sound of a fan in the air and turned his head to smirk at his quarry. "Did I?" He could hear the sound of blood hitting the inner part of the mask as his shuriken planted into the back of their attacker. 'Sōshuriken no jutsu.' He swiped the blade and struck at another grunt who tried to catch him off guard but only ended up losing their hand from the wrist upwards. In that moment Akira turned to see Hitoshi paralyzing the arm of an attacker with precise strikes to spots only his eyes could see at that moment, but he saw one of their attackers dropping from an angle that he immediately recognized as, 'His blind spot!'

"Hakke Jūroku Sho!" Hitoshi ended his chain of attacks and sent his enemy onto his back with one last palm thrust and he shook his sore hands. The strain of using even sixteen palms on an enemy made the boy have to rest if even for a moment. Akira was forced to watch as the world itself slowed down and Hitoshi couldn't assess that he was about to be struck in his blind spot, with speed he didn't even know he had the platinum blonde went through six hand seals in barely two seconds.

'I'm not letting these no-names hurt my friend!' Akira lunged out and clasped his hands into the ram seal. A bolt of lightning manifested ahead of the genin and struck the stealthy attacker in the chest, the attack let Hitoshi turn to see that there was a physically numb person falling towards him so he stepped aside to avoid them. When the paralyzed shinobi landed on the ground Hitoshi thrust his palm into their spine to make sure they stayed that way. The boys regrouped and were side to side once again, one with pale eyes and the other with red ones.

"So now that your eyes are like that do you think we're going to lose?"

Akira flicked his wrist to clear the blood off his new blade. "We weren't gonna lose a few minutes ago, now we definitely won't." The duo looked at the remaining masked shinobi and inwardly smiled at how much their high odds just rose in that short span of time.

"That was so cool Tou-chan!" Zeko was star eyed listening to the story his father told, even Kotetsu looked interested as opposed to being completely apathetic as he mostly seemed before.

"So I guess you should go now brat." Kotetsu's suggestion made the father and son shift nervously upon hearing it. "What? Tell me how it happened."

Zeko looked at the ground as if it were the most interesting thing before he decided to talk. "I was in a fight with those masked guys Tou-chan just was talking about and I saw everything slow down before I killed one of them… Then I- I made a mistake." The boy was lightly crying as memories went into his head.

"What kind of mistake did you make? Did somebody who was in the way get hurt?"

"Kaa-chan…" Zeko did his best to bring himself together while his father excused himself and went to stand by the trees. "It's my fault and I'll never forget it."

Kotetsu realized what the boy was implying. "Hm. Well sorry for bringing it up, explains why Shiro and my mom cared so much." Kotetsu looked away with an indifferent expression.

Zeko realized something that was related to that and decided to ask with all the lack of grace he had. "Where's your dad at? I haven't seen or heard anything about him since we got here."

Kotetsu chuckled at the question and activated his own eyes. "And that's how I got mine… I watched my own father die just two years ago." Tears came from his own eyes as he sat there with a blank expression.

"I'm… I'm sorry." Zeko managed as his own eyes began to leak, but to his surprise- No, no to his horror Kotetsu began to smile widely.

"I don't know why you are… I'm the one who killed him. I know you feel the exact same way, your mom couldn't handle having an Uchiha as a kid? Wanted to take you out and blame it on those masked bastards? Don't lie to me Zeko… I know you have the craving for more strength in you and your mom was scared of it."

Zeko couldn't believe what he was hearing, the fact that this was supposed to be his relative and yet he was accusing him of being as… as batshit insane as he was making himself out to be. "No, what I did was an accident. I'll never admit anything else!"

Kotetsu cackled madly at the boy's determined statement. "It's what we as Uchiha have, a blessing for more power. The more pain we experience the stronger our eyes get! I put myself under genjutsu just to feel more pain and hate, don't tell me your mom wasn't trying to-"

"Shut up! You're a psycho and a liar! My mom loved me with all her heart and I'll never forgive myself for what I did to her! You're a monster who shouldn't be related to me!" Zeko stood up with his own eyes active and tears running down his face.

Kotetsu's mad smile shrank as he cried his own tears, but they weren't of sadness at all. Zeko could tell that he was crying tears mixed with the joy of thinking about his dead father, and rage for Zeko being so defiant over his deluded words. "I understand then." He flew through hand seals and the moment he did he clasped his wrist, the sound of birds chirping filled the woods they were in, his left hand was coated in white electricity. "You're just a fake Uchiha! Our clan history is filled with hate and lust for power but you're staining it with your lies and weakness. The only thing you can do now is hand over those eyes with your natural life!" Kotetsu shot forward, the ground by his hand splitting as he approached. Zeko's response was to turn a bit monstrous to beat a monster so his right arm covered itself in sand and he charged with his massive claw extended.

The two were about to meet, Kotetsu managed to duck beneath the massive limb and had his attack aimed straight for Zeko's heart. Right before the Genin could even touch Zeko his wrist was grabbed and Zeko was sent flying into a tree. "You should never aim a chidori at your own family, especially after a declaration like that!" Akira was beyond furious even as Kotetsu kicked at him in an attempt to break free of his grasp.

"Let go of me! You're both just sorry excuses of-" Akira kneed the boy in the stomach and forced his face to look at his own.

"You think you're good at genjutsu apparently…" Akira's three tomoe shifted into a ring with six curved lines interlocking with one another. "What can you do about your own mind?" Kotetsu met his superior's gaze and stopped moving entirely. Akira unceremoniously dropped him and went to check on his son with bleeding eyes.

Zeko picked himself up and looked at the split tree that cushioned his impact. "That really hurt! Why'd I have to-" Akira held up a hand to stop him. "Tou-chan your eyes..." He kept his hand up.

"Zeko, your cousin is insane… I told you about how some Uchiha fell victim to losing their minds and it looks like he's going already. I used my ability to make him forget whatever you two talked about so now he doesn't think you have a sharingan." The man reached for his wrist and activated a seal that let two finger sized papers fall out. "I'm still not a seal master but I came up with this one a long time ago."

Akira placed the tags beneath his son's eyes and sent some of his chakra into them. "What are these ones supposed to do Tou-chan?"

"Even if you use your eyes nothing short of a Hyūga would be able to tell so long as you have these on. You're going to have to use these whenever you're around Kotetsu, he wasn't joking when he said he'd take your eyes." Zeko shuddered at the mania his own relative was showing towards him but he shook it off in place of knowing that he now had something to keep secret for who knows how long.

Kotetsu finally came to and looked at the demolished tree first, his gaze then went to the split ground and he looked at Zeko being nursed by his father. "Guess I went too hard on the little rabbit." He figured that Akira must have stepped in since he decided to pull out such a move right from the start. "Oi I'm ready for some real training now!" Zeko immediately stood up and walked over to Kotetsu with anger in his black eyes. "I hope you don't need your dad stepping in this time."

Before the raven haired pre-teen could even blink Zeko was on him and swept a leg beneath his, Kotetsu recovered and threw a jab that got caught by sand. Zeko delivered a roundhouse to Kotetsu's torso and used the force from the kick to launch into the air, and deliver another one to the boy's head. "Kirya-obachan said you were talented but lazy, you just seem lazy Kotetsu."

Kotetsu put his eyes into effect and started a jutsu but if he knew his younger cousin never even returned to his normal vision then he would've stopped before he finished. "Raiton: Raikyū!" Five balls of blue lightning formed ahead of Kotetsu and one by one set off toward Zeko.

The younger fighter formed his own hand seals and ended with snake, he inhaled as the orbs grew closer. "Fūton: Daitoppa!" The blast of wind shredded the lightning and struck Kotetsu square in the chest but he turned into a log right when it made contact. Zeko copied the signs Kotetsu made and decided to give the jutsu a try. "Raiton: Raikyū." He calmly said as he felt a new type of chakra leave his body, it was foreign to him since it had a simple yet violent nature. The air crackled as three purplish-blue orbs of lightning formed around Zeko.

'That's cheating! It took me two weeks to figure that out and I only made two yellow ones! How are his already blue?" Kotetsu moved and made part of the branch he was on rustle, and that was enough for his cousin to send one of the orbs his way. "Shit!" It goes without saying that the tree was gone in a flash and Kotetsu was trying to prepare another jutsu but another ball of lightning obliterated the ground near him and he went flying from the force. Another log was left in his place while Zeko scanned the tree line for his shifty relative.

"Katon: Gōkakyū no jutsu!" A ball of fire came right towards the boy and right behind it was Kotetsu.

Zeko decided to put his plan into action and show his cousin what a real fire looked like. "Katon: Goryūka no jutsu." This time the dragon flame was the size of a full grown cow and it wasn't larger than Kotetsu's flame, but when the two collided it was easy to see which packed more of a punch since the dragon shaped inferno broke right through the normal ball of flame and dispersed after.

'I guess I'm gonna have to use another one, hopefully his dad doesn't have to-" Right as he started weaving seals he was interrupted by a violent blast of water from behind, Kotetsu was rolling against the ground while a shadow clone of Zeko was using the wild water wave. Once the torrent finally stopped he heard the sound of crackling from above him and he looked to see the final orb of lightning directly over his body.

Zeko smiled and sent the ball into the air where it blew up without harming anything. "Good match Kotetsu. Maybe try training a little so it'll be even more fun." Zeko brushed his cloak off and inspected his outfit while his cousin laid on the ground, soaked from the water style jutsu.

Uchiha Kotetsu had been in a lot of scraps and a lot of fights that dated back to before he joined the shinobi academy, he was naturally gifted as an Uchiha would be so he rode that natural talent through the many years he attended. He'd never backed down from a challenge but he never avoided instigating them since the end result was him standing on top. His history let him see that there was one thing he was unfamiliar with when it came to fighting that he'd just been introduced to by his own relative who was younger than him by four years. "Did I just lose?"
