Disclaimer: I do not own the characters of either Digimon: Tamers or The Hobbit, only how the story goes. The characters of Digimon: Tamers belongs to their creators and The Hobbit belongs to J.R.R. Tolkien and the studios that helped make the movies. The only thing that I do own are the OC's of the story. A/N: Like I said in the last chapter, the Dwarves, Gandalf and Bilbo will get to see what the Digimon can do in this chapter.

Chapter Nine: What Digimon can do
The rest of the night was a peaceful one. There were no more Orcs screeching into the night and everyone slept soundly when they could. The sun rose over the eastern horizon as it always did. And when the Company was on its feet, Thorin ordered, "Let's get a move on."
While the Dwarves, Bilbo and Gandalf all got onto the backs of a horse, only Ryo, Kazu, Kenta, Henry, Suzie, Ai, Mako and Jeri got on one. Impmon, Terriermon and Calumon were able to join with a few on ponies since they were smaller. Takato, Rika, Guilmon and Renamon remained on foot. Bofur asked, "Aren't you going to get on a pony or horse?"
"Renamon here can keep up on foot on her own. A horse or a pony would only slow her down." Rika said, while Renamon smirked to her partner. Takato then said, "And I'm pretty sure that the ponies aren't entirely used to Guilmon just yet."
"I don't mind walking for a while." Guilmon said with a shrug. Renamon then suggested to Rika, "Perhaps it wouldn't hurt to Digivolve. Just so we don't slow anyone down."
"But what if we're needing you at full strength?" Takato asked. Then he pointed out, "Who knows when we'll run into trouble."
"You have your cards, right?" Renamon asked. Takato then remembered before nodding. Guilmon then said, "Then let's do it."
"Do what exactly?" Bilbo asked, wondering what was going on. Both Takato and Rika opened their card holders and slid one out. Takato smiled to the Hobbit and said, "Watch this."
The Company looked to the two Tamers as they prepared themselves. They let the two cards they had through the air before catching them again between their two fingers. Then moving their D-Arks to one side of their body and the card on the other, they brought the two together and slid the card through the slot. Electricity crackled as the card was scanned. Takato and Rika's shouts echoed when they said, "Digi-Modify!"
The cards were fully scanned and the data was read when the two Tamers pulled them out. Guilmon and Renamon were both enveloped in light when they shouted, "Digivolution, activate!"
Digivolution
"Renamon Digivolve to…" Renamon said as she started to undergo the transformation. She was surrounded by a blue egg-like construct and it began. Her entire being became data as her rookie skin started to peel off. Her being changed shape as she was now on all fours, the yin and yang symbol on her head and legs, and nine tails fanning out with flames at the tips, "Kyubimon!"
"Guilmon Digivolve to…" Guilmon said as he started to undergo the transformation. He was surrounded by a red egg-like construct and it began. His entire being became data as his rookie skin started to peel off. His being changed shape as he was now much bigger, had a head of hair on his head, two large horns above his eyes, spikes on his elbows, many more black markings on his body and the hazard symbol was moved onto his shoulders, "Growlmon!"
Those of the Company who hadn't seen such a thing before, were amazed by the power of Digivolution. Gandalf then muttered to himself, "So this is the power of Digimon. Incredible."
"Now let's get going." Rika said as she climbed onto the Kyubimon's back. Growlmon helped Takato up onto his head and the boy clung to one of the champion's horns. Gandalf then said, "Now let us be off."
(Cue One Week from Barenaked Ladies)
The Company started to head down from the overlook. Those on the ponies took the lead while Takato, Growlmon, Rika and Kyubimon brought up the rear.
Barenaked Ladies: Its been one week since you looked at me
Cocked your head to the side and said, "I'm angry"
Five day since you laughed at me
Saying, "Get that together, come back and see me"
Three days since the living room
I realized it's all my fault, but I couldn't tell you
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
But it'll still be two days 'til I say I'm sorry
The group continued walking through the forest. The Company kept themselves occupied by talking about various things. Even the four at the back talked amongst themselves.
Barenaked Ladies: Hold it now and watch the hoodwink
As I make you stop, think
You'll think you're looking at Aquaman
I summon the fish to the dish, although
I like the Chalet Swiss
I like the sushi 'cause it's never touched a frying pan
Hot like wasabi when I bust rhymes
Big like LeAnn Rimes, because I'm all about the value
The Company continued to travel through the day and soon into the night. Takato and Rika were really impressed and relieved that Growlmon and Kyubimon didn't seem fatigued or anything as they remained at the champion level. But they hoped that they would get a break soon so they could go back to being Guilmon and Renamon for a little while.
Barenaked Ladies: Bert Kaempfert's got the mad hits
You try to match wits, you try to hold me but I bust through
Gonna make a break and take a fake
I'd like a stinking aching shake
I like vanilla, it's the finest of the flavors

Sometimes they crossed over a few open fields, some rocky terrains and under open skies. At one point, Bofur told a few funny stories about when he was younger, much to aggravation of his brother and cousin.
Barenaked Ladies: How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad
Trying hard not to smile, though I feel bad
I'm the kind of guy who laughs at a funeral
Can't understand what I mean?
Well, you will soon
I have a tendency to wear my mind on my sleeve
I have a history of taking off my shirt
They were able to carry on through the night. Henry, Kenta and Kazu kept an eye on Suzie, Ai and Mako while the three slept through the night. The older children fought to stay awake and the Digimon made sure to keep an eye and ear out for any danger.
Barenaked Ladies: It's been one week since you looked at me
Threw yours arms in the air and said, "You're crazy"
Five days since you tackled me
I've still got the rug burns on both my knees
It's been three days since the afternoon
You realized it's not my fault not a moment too soon
Yesterday, you'd forgiven me
And now I sit back and wait 'til you say you're sorry
They soon came to another forest, and dark clouds started to roll in from overhead. A good deal of the group started to look irritated by the turning of the weather but didn't complain to much as they kept going.
Barenaked Ladies: Chickity China, the Chinese chicken
You have a drumstick and your brain stops tickin'
Watching X-Files with no lights on
We're dans la masion
I hope the Smoking Man's in this one
Like Harrison Ford, I'm getting frantic

Thunder boomed over head and rain drops started falling. The Tamers each whipped out a rain coat for themselves and popped out an umbrella for the Digimon. Takato and Rika tried to keep Growlmon and Kyubimon's heads dry as best as they could.
Barenaked Ladies: Gonna find the kind with tiny nubs
Just so my irons aren't always flying off the back-swing
Gotta get in tune with Sailor Moon
'Cause that cartoon has got the boom anima babes
That makes me think the wrong thing
How can I help it if I think you're funny when you're mad

The started to get much heavier as more of the Company started to cover their heads to keep them dry. Gandalf himself didn't need to cover his head since he wore his iconic hat. Jeri moved closer to Bilbo's pony and used her umbrella for her, him and Calumon.
Barenaked Ladies: It's been one week since you looked at me
Dropped your arms to the sides and said, "I'm sorry"
Five days since I laughed at you and said
"You just did what I thought you were gonna do"
Three days since the living room
We realized we're both to blame but what could we do?
Yesterday, you just smiled at me
'Cause it'll still be two days 'til we say we're sorry
It's still be two days 'til we say, "Wasabi"
Birchmount Stadium, home of the Robbie
Two days 'til we say we're sorry

The ran continued to pour down hard as the Company trudged on. Bofur removed his pipe from his mouth when the ran doused it and put it away for the time being. Jeri was still holding the umbrella for her, Bilbo and Calumon when Bilbo decided to hold it for a little while, "Here, Jeri. Let me hold it for a little while."
"Oh, thank you, Bilbo." Jeri said and handed him the umbrella. Calumon repeated, "Thank you, Mr. Bilbo."
"No worries, Calumon." Bilbo said as they continued along. The ground shook beneath Growlmon's feet as he trudged along beside Kyubimon. The Kyubimon looked to her friend and asked, "How are you fairing, Growlmon?"
"Fine for now." Growlmon said, though he was starting to feel tired. Then he added, "But I might need a break soon."
"I think we all need one." Rika commented as she looked ahead to where Gandalf and Thorin were. Takato then said, "We're bound to stop soon. It's only the middle of the day. We're more than liable to stop by nightfall."
"I hope so." Growlmon lightly whined as his feet started to hurt.
Up near the middle of the group, Kazu was checking his D-Ark. The compass was still pointing to the East and hadn't changed like the others' D-Arks had. Kenta then said, "Don't worry, Kazu. We'll find them."
"I know, Kenta." Kazu said, knowing that he, Kenta, Suzie and Ryo were still missing their partners. From beside Kazu, Dori called out, "Here, Mr. Gandalf, can't you do something about this deluge?"
"It is raining, Master Dwarf." Gandalf said over his shoulder. And then he pointed out, "And it will continue to rain until the rain is done."
"But you're a Wizard." Henry said as he rode his horse next to the Wizard's. Then he asked, "I thought since you knew magic, then you'd be able to do something about stuff like the weather."
"Some Wizard's might be able to do that." Gandalf said with a nod. But then shaking his head he said, "I unfortunately cannot."
Then looking between the Company he said, "If you want someone who can do all that, then you should find yourself another Wizard!"
"Are there any?" Bilbo asked while Dori sighed. Gandalf hardly heard the Hobbit's question and asked, "Any what now?"
"Other Wizards?" Bilbo asked to clarify his question. Gandalf then revealed, "There are five of us. The greatest of our order is Saruman the White.
"Then there are the two Blue Wizards…" Gandalf stopped as he tried to think of their names. With a shake of his head and said, "Oh, I scold myself for forgetting their names."
A few chuckles rang through the children. Takato then asked, "And who is the fifth Wizard?"
"Well, that would be Radagast the Brown." Gandalf told them with a grin. Bilbo then asked, "Is he a great Wizard? Or is he more like you?"
"That sounds like something I would say." Terriermon commented. Henry couldn't help but smirk at that. Gandalf, somewhat hurt by Bilbo's words, but thought little of them, then said, "I think that he's a very great Wizard, in his own way. He's a gentle soul who prefers the company of animals to others."
"What does he do?" Growlmon asked. Gandalf looked to the champion level Digimon and said, "He keeps a watchful eye over the vast forest lands in the East. A place called Greenwood."
With a nod he said, "And it is a good thing too.
"And I mean not to open old wounds when I say this." Gandalf said, knowing how much the Tamers cared not for their enemy. Then he said, "But like the D-Reaper, the evils of our world are always looking to find a foothold in this world."
The Tames couldn't help but agree with the Wizard. The Company continued to move along the Great East Road as the ran continued to pour down on them.
