Mai woke up with dark circles beneath her eyes.

'Lin is a Chinese? Whoa. That's cool. Lin is an Onmyouji? That's amazing! But Lin hating her? That's frustrating! She offended a powerful person!'

"Kyaaah!!!!" Mai scream in frustration. She's currently in roadside so people stared at her as she scream.

'And also, Lin as a member of SPR...''Lin Koujo... He is also known as Lin Xingxu!!'

Lin Xingxu, a famous Onmyouji of British Society of Psychic Research. He is skilled in curses and spells. He is also the Head Technician of BSPR and a professor at Cambridge University.

'See?! A Big shot!! Just like Dr. Davis!'

"How could I have offended that man! Waaah!! It is said that he hates Japanese because of the thing Japan did to China. I also injured him on our first meeting. I must be on his blacklist now. Waaah.. T_T.." Mai whispered in frustration as she walk towards her school.

Once she entered her classroom, her thoughts about Lin Koujo or Lin Xingxu disappeared and focus her attention to her class. It's one week before the cultural festival and as a student assistant to the principal, she stayed a little bit late to assist him. She called the SPR that she will be late and continue her job.

"Mai, tea."

Mai frown as she hang her coat on the hanger.

'Geez.. How could he know that I have arrived?'

She put her things on her table near the window and went to the kitchen. Once she finished the tea, she delivered Lin's tea first and as usual he didn't say a word except his 'Thanks'. Mai knocked on Naru's office next and when she heard the words 'Come in', she finally opened the door and walk towards Naru's table.

Every time, she delivered his tea, she always see that wide Japan map and a lot of books around him. He looks like he is searching for something. Mai wondered what is he searching for.

'Is this another reason why he came from Japan?'

Mai exited the office and went back to her table where many files are waiting for her to rearrange. She finished it in 40 minutes and she proceed to her homeworks and the assignments the principal gave her for the cultural festival.

Naru sighed as he look at the clock. It's almost time to go rest. He organised all his things and went out of his office. He locked it and turned around just to be shocked to see Mai writing nonstop on her usual spot.

'She's still not leaving?'

Naru saw the seriousness on Mai's face. She focus on writing and looking at the book about Japanese culture.

"It's late. You're still not leaving?" Naru voice out making Mai stop what she is doing.

"Oh. Sorry." Mai said as she look at her watch. It's already 8pm. She organised her things and put it in her bag.

"Are you going home now?" Mai asked as she put on her coat.

"Yes. But I still have to wait for Lin."

"Okay. Good night, Naru. Sweet dreams. I'm going now." Mai said as she yawn. She exited the building and hailed a taxi.

That morning, she's late again because of that dream. It's Saturday and she still have work. She also need to go to school for the preparation of the upcoming feast. She arrived at the office when she saw Masako and Naru in the entertainment room.

"Mai, call the others. We have a case."

"What?! But I'm busy. Can I be excused? I still have to assist the Student Council for the feast this afternoon." Mai said with a wronged face.

Naru stopped remembering what she said yesterday. She asked for a half-day break and he agreed. He sighed but he just beckoned Mai to call the others. Mai stomped her feet as she do what she was ordered to.

"I will make sure to dismiss you early for you to catch that appointment of yours." Naru said as she finished her job.

"You can't go on your words. You promised." Mai said staring at him. Naru just nod at her and get his coat.

Masako look at them with a hint of disappointment in her eyes. She has a huge crush on Naru and she's jealous seeing how close the two interact. She forced Naru to take the case she offered. She must take the chance to get close to him.

While waiting for the others to come, Mai bought come tea for them while they sit on the bench. Mai and Naru sat on the opposite side while Masako sat on the middle. Naru and Mai are reading a book as Masako is looking at Naru, who is ignoring her.

Mai look at her watch and saw that it's already 30 minutes and they're not here. If they delayed any longer, she will be late for the preparation. Mai dialed Bou-san's number.

"Bou-san, where are you?" Mai asked a bit in a hurry.

"Whoa. Why are you in a rush? I already got Ayako and John. We are near the park you said."

"Can you hurry? We need to finished up this case ASAP."

"Why are you in a hurry? It's probably an earth bound spirits so we'll finished up fast."

Mai frown as she heard Ayako's voice on the other line. Here she goes again with that earth bound spirit.

"Just hurry up okay?"

"So what is the case all about?" Bou-san asked as they arrived at the bench.

"Thank God you're finally here. We've been waiting here for an hour." Mai scowled as she look at the three.

"Sorry Mai. We drop by a cafe since Ayako said she's very hungry." John said as he appease Mai's anger.

"Okay. Masako, what is the case about? I still have 1 and a half hour before I go." Mai said as she drink her tea.

"The client is a friend of mine from the TV station. He was shooting a particular scene in this park but due to some strange phenomenon, it's always cancelled."

"Strange phenomenon?"

" Yes. He said that water suddenly pours on them from above. There are no recording of what he said to me but he said that the camera crew is fine but it's a wonder why the actors always get drenched. It was like a balloon of water pop from the sky and pours on them. They look into this and apparently some records of the same incident is being reported starting 6 months ago. I said it might be a prank but there are no evidence of a person pranking the people. I also said some culprit may not be always in the vicinity but they insisted that the water came from nowhere and forced me to take up the case."

"Relocate the place of the shoot?" Mai said.

"I recommend that too but the script says that it must be in that park and they already spent a lot on that park so it's not plausible." Masako answered.

"Okay. Let's start. Do you feel any spirits here? It looks peaceful, I really can't perform an exorcism in front of many people." Bou-san said and sit down.

"There are little but they are not harmful." Masako said feeling what is around her.

"Oh. I forgot. What particular scene is performed every time that water appear?" John asked them.

"It's some romantic scenes. Kissing, hugging and being sweet as example." Masako answered.

Mai's lips twitch as she heard that. So that's why. Naru will never take a case like this but he agreed when Masako suggest it to him.

'Is she blackmailing him?'

"A case that only happen between couples? I can't believe it." Ayako said.

"We don't know if it's a psychic phenomenon yet." Naru interrupted in a very grumpy voice.

"We're here to find that out." Bou-san said in a nervous tone. He knew that this little boss is in a very bad mood so he tried to calm him down.

"How to deal with it?" John asked.

"I have an idea. Why don't we create a decoy? We just have to pair up and pretend as a couple to lure out the culprit."

"No. I don't think it's a good idea--"

"Right, Naru?" Masako interrupted sending a knowing smile to Naru.

Naru flinched at her stare and shut up. Mai saw it and smirked at her boss's demise.

'She's really blackmailing him. Interesting.'

"Okay. I'm in. As long as we finish the work." Mai said as she raise her hands.

"Mai!" Naru glared at him but Mai playfully stuck out her tongue to him.

Masako smiled seeing her plan is slowly working but she didn't expect Mai to make a move first destroying her plan completely.

"Okay. My pair will be my boss. Naru, let's go to another place. I need to have a word with you. " Mai said hooking her arms with Naru.

"What?" Masako and Naru asked dumbfounded at her comment. Mai, who is walking away stopped after noticing her partner not moving from his place. She drag Naru with him and finally let go of him when they're in a convenient store.

"What are we doing here?" Naru asked as Mai get an umbrella and pay it on the counter.

"For precaution." Mai said as she held the umbrella.

"Let's go back." Naru said and Mai followed him.

"Hey. Is Masako blackmailing you?"

Naru stopped and almost cursed at his girl's sharp intuition. He look at Mai with a shock impression and that made Mai smirked when his face confirmed her guess.

"She really did." Mai chuckled as she walk towards her boss.

"I thought you're invincible but Masako found a weakness of yours. Hahaha. It's really funny watching you as she annoyed you and you cannit do anything!" Mai laughed but stopped as she felt chills on her back as the black clad youth glare at her. She nervously let out a short chuckle and clear her throat.

"Anyway, I help you get out of that annoying situation and you must reward me. Anything will do and I appreciate if you give a raise at my pay." Mai said while averting her eyes from him.

"You better hurry up or you'll be late on your next appointment." Naru repeated what he said last time. Mai's smile disappeared and look at her watch.

"It's 45 minutes to go! We need to hurry." Mai said dragging Naru back again.

"So, guys. Any clues? " Mai asked but the others shook their head while Masako harrumphed at her.

They then decided to separate ways so Naru sat on a bench near him and read a book. Mai sat beside him and sighed. What to do? She will be late!

The others decided to pair using rock-paper-scissors. Bou-san ended up with Ayako and John was paired up with Masako. Bou-san and Ayako is bickering while John is consoling the fuming Masako. They're not attracting the culprit at all.

"Masako said the phenomenon only appear when couple do sweet things..." Mai whispered.

"That is why this case is ridiculous." Naru added as he heard her.

"Then let's do that ridiculous things." Mai said much to Naru's surprise reaction.

"What?"

"Forgive me, Naru. But I promise to compensate you if it doesn't work.." Mai said as she extended her arms towards Naru. Mai wrapped her arms on Naru's neck and smiled at him.

Some people saw them and some screamed at the chemistry they gave off.

"They're meant to be!"

"How can that guy be so handsome?!"

"Are they celebrities?!"

Hearing the commotion, the two other pairs look at their direction and was shocked at what they see. Mai hugging Naru so closely, they look like a real couple!

"Mai, what are you doing? Molesting your boss?" Naru coldly said. He is clearly uncomfortable with this position but he tried not showing it on his face. Mai giggled and push his bangs away.

"Nope. I'm doing my job." Mai said any grin at him. Not a second later, her expression changed and in a flash, she brought out her umbrella and...

*Splash!!!*

The water poured from the above. Thankfully, Mai had the umbrella ready or they would drench now.

"She's here! She's a woman. She's young and is probably in her mid twenties..."

"Serves you right!!!" Masako said in a wicked giggle as she look at them. Mai and Naru came hand in hand and saw the scene.

"What the heck." Mai said as she saw her elegant and dignified friend acting like a crazy person laughing so frivolously. She looks like an idiot. It's funny watching her like this.

"A spirit possessed her body. This is perfect. We need to know what her motive is." Naru said not noticing that he is gripping at Mai's hand.

Mai flinched when Naru moved forward pulling her arm. Her shoulder still didn't recover from the dislocation she gained on the last case few days ago. It's really lucky that it's her left arm if not she will not be able to write anything. Mai glared at the youth but he ignored her, focusing his attention to the possessed friend.

"Are you the one pouring the water?" He asked.

"Yes! I hope that they all catch a cold, get bronchitis and suffer from it! Hahaha!!" The possessed Masako answered while chuckling. She saw the guy who asked her and was entranced by his 'beauty'. She can't help herself running towards him, catching his free hand to rub it on her face.

"What a handsome young man!! All my life, I never seen anyone as handsome as him!!!!" The possessed Masako said continuing her 'assault'.

"This lady is interesting." Bou-san chuckled.

"Yes. It's even more hilarious since she's inside Masako's body." Ayako added as she continue to film the event. John just smiled nervously at them.

"Are you sure it's okay to film? Masako will get angry." -John

Naru's face darkened as the others laugh at him. Mai also giggled but she used her other free hand to brush Masako off him.

"Haha. That's enough. Don't flirt with my boyfriend of the day. He's mine. " Mai said laughing as Naru step 3 steps back.

He still didn't noticed that he is holding Mai's left hand. Masako pout and made a gesture with her hands. Sensing the danger, Mai put the umbrella above them and not a second later, the water poured down.

"Can you stop being so sweet?! You made me sick! And you're even sicker when you flirt with each other! Especially when I'm suffering from so much pain... Waaaaahhh..." The ghost cried.

"But what can you do? As I told you, he is my boyfriend of the day." Mai teased as she lazily smiled. Naru groan as he heard her say the word 'boyfriend' again. Is she keep on saying that to annoy me? Naru thought but the more he thought, the more he felt his face heating up. Fortunately, he is a good pretender and the others didn't see it.

"But why are you in so much pain?" Mai added but she was shocked when Masako suddenly held her free hand and beam at her..

"Really? You want to know? I'm gonna tell you my tragic and tear jerking story you've ever heard! Listen to me..." Masako said as Mai twitch her lip on the lady's unladylike behaviour.

"It was a fateful encounter. We met here in this park. I was from the market that day and walk here to take a breather but then I drop my onion leaks and he pick it up for me! That is the most romantic scene of my life!!! Kyaaaah!!!! Then we used to meet here ever since! We got along well and everyone is jealous watching us walking around! Kyaaaah!!! Hihi!! "

The others except John and Naru dropped their jaws at the story.

"How cheesy.." Mai

"Is this a new romantic trend?" Ayako

"It sound like a scene from a black and white movie." Bou-san

" But then!!!! ... Waaaaahhh... That jerk..." Masako feel on the ground and cry at her story. The others just look at her with weird expression as they listen to what she is saying.

"How dare he!! He was cheating on me! That was six months ago and I saw him dating another woman! They are meeting her in this park. This is our special place! Waaaaahhh..."

Naru sighed as he was getting tired at her story. Mai giggled at him but she earned a glare from him.

"What's the reason using water?" He asked.

"That's because he poured water on my head! I went to them to confront him but he did that saying that I disgust him! He's such a jerk! I hate him! I hate him! It hurt so much that I fall into depression that lead me to suicide..." Masako said in a sad tone.

"Ah?!" Bou-san and Ayako.

"This is our memorable place so I thought that I might as well die her but I FAILED!!!! When I was about to hang myself on a tree, the branch break! When I was about to curse myself, the security caught me and thought I'm a psycho! I was about to give up that evening when I suddenly heard a rustle behind me and got spooked. I turn around to look at it but I step on a slippery stone and fell. My nape hit the edge of a cement and I died from it! And I thought that as I ghost, I can haunt him but who told him to be so insensitive!!! I tried clinging at him and standing near his bed but he doesn't see me at all!!! ARG!!! I'm alone in this place and I was sick watching all couples being sweet so I did that to them! This is my way of relieving my stress!! I'd have them go the same pain I went through!" Masako said laughing eerily.

"Tsk! Pathetic but pitiful." Mai said and shrugged her shoulder. She rub Masako's head and smile at her.

"Look, honey. Even if you are upset because of a grudge you have against your ex-boyfriend, if you take it on others, won't you be the one they'd end up hating? That is unreasonable. That's unfair to you and it doesn't make sense." Mai said softly to her.

"This may not sound convincing to you but hating and being hated can only bring pain to you." She added and pat Masako's shoulder.

"That's right. You,too, must have realized that this didn't bring any happiness to you." Naru said backing up what Mai said.

"If you continue on your deeds, you may become a site bound spirit in this place." Ayako said as she continue to film the whole event.

"You will never find happiness while staying here. There will be a peaceful place waiting for you up there. It's advisable to move on now." Bou-san said and pat Masako's head.

Masako look at them with doubt and eyed them one by one.

"Are all of you members of some nerdy ghost club?" She asked ruining the nice mood.

"Hahaha. What they said is true. You must think of it carefully." John said offering her a kind smile.

Masako sighed and play with her hands.

"You may be right... I feel that your advice had awakened the truth in me..." Masako said as she pray. Slowly, her spirit got out of Masako's body and became visible to the group. She bowed and smiled at them.

"Thank you for listening. I feel better now."

And with that, she had crossed over. The group smiled except for their boss as Masako began to wake up.

"What happened?" Masako asked looking at them. The group look at her and laugh at her appearance. Her cloths are dirty and her hair is messy because the ghost played with her hair and sit on the sand. Her face is hilarious!

"Ahem." Naru broke the mood and Masako shyly turn around and clean herself. Feeling something missing, Mai look at her watch and widened her eyes afterwards.

"Waaah!!!! I'm late!!!" She said and broke free from Naru's hand. She bid them her goodbyes and dash away from them.

Naru was looking at his hand as they others began to leave. Did they just hold hands for 30 minutes while solving the case? Naru grit his teeth as he felt his face heat up again.

'This is ridiculous.'

That afternoon, Lin eyed his ward with a weird face.

'Is he sick? His face and ears are red.' -He thought.

He was about to go and ask him but the SPR irregulars came and show the video of the case and the picture of Naru and Mai together. Lin was stunned when he saw this and requested a copy of it.

So this is why he's like that. Although, Lin is against Mai, he is really entertained whenever his boss acts unlike himself. Luella and Madoka will be delighted to see this. He smirked as he typed on his computer to send an email.
