The next morning, Starfire woke up and couldn't take her excitement to tell her friend Demetra about it.
"Oh! I must tell Demetra about this!"
Starfire flew down and decided to find Demetra by running to her. She went to each room that she has access to, but Demetra is nowhere to be seen.
After a few minutes of finding Demetra, she finally found her. Starfire was running to her when she saw a warden with Demetra. She slowed her running and paused for a moment.
Starfire found a corner and hid there and listened.
Demetra was with the warden when she suddenly collapsed, into the embrace of the warden. She just gave out the saddest facial expression Starfire has never seen before. Starfire got her worried face on and decided to tell her later. Starfire tucked the letter inside her uniform and slowly retrieved it back to the main area where the other inmates were.
After Lunch, the trio sat at one of the tables in silence. Starfire looked at her friend and saw that her friend had her hands on her forehead as if she was stressed. But she was really sad.
"I was so... darn close... I couldn't get the parole... and the suckiest part was that I didn't get to spend her last days with her... It's not far... just simply. Not. Fair. At. All!"
Demetra said as she began to tear up and started to cry.
Seeing Demetra like this broke Starfire's heart. She gently placed her hands over her hands and told them her story.
"I do not remember much of my mother... but when I get the empty feeling inside, I take comfort in the knowledge that she is in a better place. As you know, she died from heart failure, a very painful one. I hope you can find comfort knowing that your beloved sister is no longer in pain and suffering and that she has gained her angel wings. She still loved and cared for you as a sister would do for more families. And that she came as often to see you as she could. Please do not blame yourself for this, Demetra."
Demetra wiped her teary eyes in confusion.
"Are you telling me it's not okay to cry?" She asked.
"No, not that kind of way that I am saying. What I am saying is, On my planet, it is a show of respect to mourn those who have passed. I am merely stating that you should not feel guilty. You did everything that you could."
Demetra nodded in understanding. And then she smiled.
Starfire looked in her eyes. She felt the same feeling as she did. Starfire hugged her in a tight embrace. Demetra felt good and she felt her heart warm up by the hug she was receiving.
Soon, a guard came over to the trio table with two cases. What are believed to be instrument cases? "Two anonymous donors had supplied these instruments to our facilities. Any of you girls play these instruments?"
Starfire got curious. And went over to the cases. The guard left them on the table and left. "I'll leave you all to it. Let me know if you girls don't know anything about them."
The trip looked over and opened the cases. It contained one violin and one acoustic guitar.
Starfire got curious about those two instruments. Skylar went over and took the violin.
"What is that instrument?" Starfire asked.
"Oh, this is called a violin."
"Oh! It looks... interesting. Do you know how to play it?"
"Of course!"
Both Starfire and Demetra look at her in surprise. Demetra didn't know she could play the violin. "You know how to play it?" She asked Skylar.
"Watch me."
Skylar got the bow in her right hand and the violin on her left shoulder, just below her chin, making the chin rest on the chin rester. And started to play. It was a melodic sound and it sounded like an epic orchestral getting ready to go into action.
Demetra, Starfire, and the other inmates were just staring at Skylar. In shock and amazement. She could play like a professional! Some of the inmates were whispering to each other saying that they didn't know that a half-blind person could play an instrument.
It sounded beautiful and also majestic. Starfire just smiled at her talent.
Skylar was staring back and smiling. She kind of danced a little, but she just stayed focused on her piece. Once she was done, she looked around and bowed.
Every person was giving her applause. Skylar never knew that her talent was still going and still living. She kept her secret of playing the instrument for a while. But when she heard the orchestral music, she knew that her friends would like it.
Once Skylar was done, she placed the violin back and decided to keep it.
"Wow! I didn't know you could even do that!" Demetra said in amazement.
"Thanks! I played it for a long time. Ever since my injury and scar, it never stopped me from playing something like this."
"That music was amazing!" Starfire said.
"Thanks, Starfire! And glad you all liked it!" Skylar replied and told everyone in the same room.
"So.. who's got the other thing?" Starfire asked.
"Me, of course," Demetra said.
Demetra grabbed the guitar and began to play her music piece.
Skylar and Starfire listened carefully and enjoyed it.
The acoustic guitar wasn't loud enough for the whole room to hear, but she didn't care. While Demetra was playing a song, Skylar immediately recognized the tone. Starfire still didn't get it, but she loved it.
"That tone was beautiful..." Starfire complimented.
"Thank you, Starfire! Do you know the song?" Demetra asked.
"I do not. Perhaps you could tell me?"
"I know it," Skylar said.
"Wanna give her a hand?" Demetra asked.
"The song that Demetra was playing was called Let It Go."
"Let It Go?" Starfire said in confusion.
"Yeah, that's the song."
"You mean the James Bay one?"
Demetra laughed for a bit. She wasn't expecting Starfire to say James Bay. But since she doesn't know the movie, she just told her the story."
"Haha! That's a good guess, Star. But it's from the movie Frozen." Demetra told her.
"Ummm... perhaps you could tell me what the Let It Go song was from? And also the Frozen?" Starfire asked, in embarrassment.
"That's okay Starfire. I'll explain it to you. So basically the movie that Demetra said was from Disney. And Disney is an animation company that makes movies, either 2D or 3D. And the movie Frozen was in 3D, and since the song, Let it Go was a very popular song, Demetra got inspired by it and played it."
"Oh! So, what you're telling me is that the company that is Disney, made the movie Frozen and Frozen was the song Let it Go that she played? Correct?"
"You are right!"
"Joy!"
"Glad you liked it. And I still don't know why my talents aren't fading yet."
"Jinx!" Skylar said and Demetra gave her a high five.
