In the morning, the wounded frankenfish left a blood trail.
"There's some more blood!" Slade said. The bounty hunters are retracing the same way they came to the sunken houseboats while they are following the fish's blood trail.
"You don't waste any time, do you?" A drunken Harvey with dark circles asked as he sees Selina leaned back against Bruce, who had his arm wrapped around her.
Selina turns to Harvey. "Shut up, Harvey." Harvey moves closer.
"I'm warning you, dude. She doesn't put out nearly as quickly as you think," Harvey said.
"Shut up, Harvey," Bruce said. That was the fourth time Bruce had to shut Harvey up. Harvey turns away in disbelief and continues minding his own business.
Strange is slowing down as he notices the blood trail has passed his fishing vessel.
"More blood," Slade said until he sees the fish's den about a hundred feet in front of him.
"There, what is that?" Slade points to the den.
Everyone comes closer to the den. Strange makes a stop until now; he is going to reveal his secretive behavior. Bruce turns to him.
"Now what?"
"Now we go get it," Strange answered, implying that he is going to capture it. Selina looks confused.
Bruce chuckles a little. "Forget it. This is your safari. You go drag it out."
"You know what? I'm gonna have my hands full holding this gun," Strange said as he takes out his gun and points it at Bruce and Selina. Selina turns away and reacts unexpectedly and hatefully.
"And seeing that I don't feel like hauling his sorry drunk ass in there with me, it either going to be you or her," Strange said, implying the word 'his' is Harvey. Bruce looks at Strange in both fear and hatefulness. Strange is waiting for either Bruce or Selina to help the two bounty hunters to capture the monster.
"I'll go," Bruce said.
"Excellent. Slade, time to cowboy up, my friend," Strange said.
"Hey, Bruce," Harvey said. Bruce and Selina look at Harvey.
"The guy's a dick."
"Hey," Strange called for Bruce. "You first."
Bruce gets up and goes to the edge.
"Be careful, Bruce," Selina said. Bruce steps into the water.
"Hey, you. Hey!" Slade. Bruce turns and Slade throws a tarp to him. He walks to the den, holding a tarp as Strange and Slade both step into the water and follow him while they are taking him as a hostage. Harvey and Selina watch.
As Bruce walks closer to the den, the two bounty hunters point their guns at Bruce and out around them to keep their eyes on the fish attack. Bruce stops at the entrance and looks at the bounty hunters.
"Come on," Strange said.
"Go on, get in there," Slade said.
The three men enter the den. Bruce stops for a second as he can hardly see anything in the dark with branches, vines, and leaves hanging in the way, even though the bounty hunters have their flashlights on.
"Okay, move it. Get in there," Slade said. Bruce keeps walking, but slowly.
As the three men walk deeper inside, Slade is starting to panic.
"How many?" Slade asked, startling Strange.
"Goddamn it, Slade," Strange said. Bruce stops and turns to the bounty hunters.
"DID YOU SEE HOW BIG THAT FEMALE WAS? THE MALE COULD BE 25 FEET LONG!" Slade said in a panic tone, implying that the snakeheads that attacked everyone in the previous chapters are females, but the male is much bigger, which does not yet appear.
"What is he talking about?" Bruce asked.
"Nothing. Keep going," Strange said. Bruce keeps walking as he looks at the two men in concern.
"Move it. Move on. Go on, get in there," Slade said. Bruce slowly keeps walking and walking until he gets to the end.
Outside, Selina gets up and walks to the engine.
"Wait, what are you doing?" Harvey asked as he stands up. Selina didn't answer.
Inside the den, the wounded female frankenfish is dead from the flare Bruce had put on.
"There it is. There it is. That flare must've killed it. It looks dead," Slade said.
Bruce stops and turns to the bounty hunters.
"Come on, you get over there and cover, man," Strange said to Slade as he takes out his tranq gun.
"How do you know that that thing could put that out?" Slade said.
"I've tripled the dose. It's enough for a whale. Now, come on, Slade," Strange said.
"YOU DON'T KNOW THAT!" Slade said, panicked by the male frankenfish's size, which still does not yet appear.
"Are you saying there's another one?" Bruce asked Strange.
Outside, Selina begins hot-wiring the engine.
"I'm trying to start this engine so we can go get Bruce and leave those other two assholes to their monster," Selina said.
"Oh. You never told me you could do that," Harvey said. Selina, however, has no key to start the engine. So, she decides to hotwire it instead.
"I brought three. Two of them are dead. And I'm bringing the last home one with me, alive," Strange said to Bruce. He turns to Slade. "Now, get on there, Slade."
"DON'T FUCKING TELL ME WHAT TO DO!" Slade yelled in panic.
"You two are pretty damn stupid," Bruce said.
"You just do as I say, and everything will be fine. Now, come on," Strange said.
Just then, something pulls Slade, who yells, down underwater without being seen.
"Slade!" Strange called, pointing his gun at where Slade was and sees his hat floating.
"Forget this," Bruce said as he moves toward Strange.
Strange points his gun at him. "You stay exactly where you are."
"We have both seen what your swamp monster does to people. So, if you want to shoot me, shoot me," Bruce said. He leaves the tarp and walks out.
Strange did not shoot at Bruce after what Bruce told him. He turns to the dead fish and thinks about what he has done. He waits for another one so he can either capture it by himself or kill it.
Outside, Selina finally starts the engine. Bruce quickly walks out of the den.
"Selina! We've got to get out of here!" He runs to the airboat.
"Bruce!" Selina called.
Inside the den, something in the water is causing massive rushes in front of Strange. There is no way Strange could have the opportunity to capture the massive size of his monster by himself. He shoots his gun four times at whatever is causing the rushes and yelled before immediately heading out. Outside, Bruce gets on the airboat. Strange walks out in fear and yelps. Bruce gets on the operator's seat. Strange yelps again, but then a 25-foot male frankenfish comes out of the den and eats him.
"CHRIST, LET'S GO!" Harvey yelled.
Bruce, Selina, and Harvey flee. They are going at full speed, but the fish is pursuing them.
"GO, MAN! GO! GO! GO! Harvey yelled.
Bruce turns to look at the fish behind him, which is still following them. Bruce turns the boat, but the fish launches and bumps into it, causing Harvey, who was standing, to fall off and landed on the mudbank.
"Harvey!" Selina called.
With no time to save Harvey, Bruce keeps going instead. The fish again bumps into the boat and Selina almost fell.
"OH! BRUCE!" Selina yelled.
The screws on the protective lining of the propeller cage come off. Bruce turns to see the protective lining has loosened. He turns to the front and sees a group of trees grown from the river far from his left. He now knows what to do. The fish launches toward the boat for the third time but misses.
"Hand me an oar!" Bruce shouted. Selina grabs the oar and hands it to Bruce.
"All right, take the stick and head for those trees!" Selina takes the rudder stick.
"And get ready to jump!"
"Jump? What do you mean jump?" Selina asked.
"Just do it!" Bruce shouted.
Selina turns the rudder stick. Bruce leans toward the top of propeller cage and and begins to remove the protective lining with an oar.
"Bite this, you bastard," Bruce said. He had removed the protective lining as he and Selina are quickly getting close to a tree stump.
"Jump!" Bruce shouted. He and Selina jump off the boat and into the water.
The unprotected airboat hits the tree stump. The snakehead/frankenfish is unable slow its momentum and launches into the whirling blades to its death, grinding off about one-third of its body and splattering its blood and body parts everywhere, including on Bruce and Selina. The two happily exclaim while they are covered in fish's blood and guts. They look at each other for seconds. Selina kisses Bruce.
"That was a good idea," she said.
"Th--thanks," he said as he looks at the fish.
"You know, you look great for a girl covered in giant fish brains," Bruce said as he looks at Selina. She puts her hand on his cheek for a second and lets out a breathy laugh.
"Yeah?" She asked.
"Yeah," he said.
"We'll see how you feel tomorrow after the tea wears off, huh?" she said.
Bruce looks at the fish and laughs a little before he looks at Selina. "Selina, I have a confession to make."
Selina looks at Bruce, confused.
"I pretended to drink the tea," he said.
Still confused, Selina is waiting for Bruce to respond clearly.
"Well, I've had that stuff before. It tastes like shit," Bruce confessed.
Selina squints jokingly and smiles as Bruce chuckles.
"Liar," she said. Bruce and Selina kiss each other before they let go and let out tiny laughs.
"Let's go back and check on Harvey. He might still be alive. Yeah?" Selina asked.
"Well, it's not too far for a swim," Bruce said.
Bruce and Selina both swim back to where Harvey was fallen.
On a mudbank, a stranded Harvey is groaning in pain as his thigh muscle is torn.
"Oh. Ow. Oh, God! Oh, fuck!" Harvey said. He tries to get up, but he feels great that he is no longer drunk.
"Okay, now I'm sober."
He hears a splash. "Huh?" Harvey looks and sees a little fish slowly hopping toward him.
"Hi, little fishy," Harvey said. As the little fish hops closer to him and another one hops to him, he notices that they look like frankenfishes, which they are but babies. "Hey, you look like..."
Just then, dozens of baby frankenfishes are chittering as they quickly jump onto Harvey and begin to attack him.
"NO! NO!" Harvey yelled.
The babies are attacking him as he cries out and resisting them. He quickly crawls back, but there is more shoal of babies coming to him. He lets out his concluding scream as the babies are beginning to feed on him alive.
