September 4th 6:00 P.M. 2028 Floor 22 Log House
Asuna was cooking the usual dinner as Midori played with Yui as usual. Suddenly she felt arms wrap around her, and she let out a yelp, that she couldn't help as she always did. But Asuna leaned back into the embrace, knowing perfectly well who it was as she tilted her head backwards to look him in his eyes and lazy grin. His hair hung over his eyes perfectly as usual, but from this angle, Asuna could see everything. Asuna dropped her utensils and spun around so they were practically chest to chest. Honestly, Kirito definitely wasn't the tallest guy around. But he was the one she had fallen for. "I've already called Dad. He says it's okay to stay at his house while this house is being renovated,"Asuna informed him, playing with his hair. Noticing sadness in Asuna's eyes, Kirito asked, "We move to your Dad's house. So why are you so sad?" Asuna's eyes widened, not expecting him to notice. Asuna sighed, "Dummy. I won't be moving to Dad's house. I'll be moving back to the apartment with Sinon. I need to stay here to make sure things go well. We'll still see each other when you're here checking out sites for the Institution while the airport is being built. It's just that I without you there it would be awkward with just your Mom, and Yui, and without me here, it would be chaos."
Kirito took a while to understand everything she had just told him, and then his eyes widened, and he pouted. Then he released Asuna, leaned in, and whispered into her ear, "Tell your Dad and Sinon it isn't needed." He slipped out of the door, grabbing his cloak, swords and straps on the way. By the time he came back in, Midori, Asuna, and Yui were had already started to eating. "Sorry we started without you. We were hungry,"Asuna apologized, instantly regretting eating. Kirito leaned in and kissed her cheek before sitting down in the remaining chair. "No worries. My princesses, and the little guy need to eat on time,"Kirito waved away Asuna's apology, instead, using it to flirt with Asuna, make Yui happy, and make his mother smile. Then looking at Asuna, he announced, "Ma, Nagata Shinichi and Suguha agreed to take you while our house is being worked on. You need to talk to Suguha then. She's the one who's really your daughter. The one you really need to tell." Midori looked up at him, accusingly, then realizing she couldn't argue her way out of this, because her son had other perfect reasons to send her to live with her daughter, she gave him a look of resignation.
Later in the day, Yui was video chatting in the living room with Kiouchirou, Midori had went to sleep, and Kirito was helping Asuna wash the dishes. They already acted like a perfect family, although in cramped quarters. As she handed him the last dish, Asuna leaned against the counter, and waited for him to finish the dishes. "What?"he asked, knowing her well. "You didn't have to do that. We could have toughed it out for a few months,"Asuna told him, obviously not liking the idea of pushing his mother away. "And miss most of your pregnancy? That would be being a bad boyfriend/fiance/husband. Plus, it's the way to get punched in the face by your brother, and you father, then yelled at by Sugu, Ma, and Mrs. Yuuki,"Kirito answered. Asuna blushed. "Well, the fact that we never had a wedding doesn't mean we're not married..."Asuna corrected him, "You know what I want to know." Kirito finished the last dish, placed it in the drying rack, pulled off the rubber gloves and turned to her, sighing. "Fine. I had to, because I got us rooms in the HQ of the old Knights of the Blood Oath building, where quite a few of the people in the council reside. Kiouchirou promised he'd take good care of Yui. Yui is eight. She can take care of herself,"Kirito explained. There was a squeal from Yui. "And that would be Kiouchirou telling Yui,"Kirito narrated. Then he continued as he saw Asuna frown, "I know you like the secretiveness of this place. I do too. I went around. Most of the council members there are people we've met that are at least semi-trustable, like Schmitt. Actually, Sleeping Knights are there too." Asuna's eyes briefly lit up at that, and the frown instantly disappeared. A soft smile slowly made it's way onto her face, "Fine. As long as rumors don't go flying, because most of the public still doesn't know that we're even together."
Looking down and placing a hand on her stomach, still leaning on the counter as Kirito walked over so that he stood in front of her, placing his forehead on hers. Without looking up, Asuna asked, "Hey, Kirito? Do you want our baby to be a girl or a boy?" He grinned, taking her right hand gently in his left,m and answered, "A girl. My three princesses running around the house!" Asuna looked up into in his eyes, and answered her own question, "A boy. A boy that is just like you, because we already have Yui. Then we can name him Kichiro, which means lucky son. So he's lucky like we are to have each other." Kirito laughed, "Well, I guess we'll just have to see, won't we?"
September 5th 2028 8:00 Floor 55 Granzam
In Granzam, now the center of Aincrad, because the government was based in the old Knights of Blood Oath HQ, or as they just called it nowadays, The HQ. Near the HQ, just down the block, and a right turn, was the new Yuuki hospital, in what used to be a mass apartment complex, named after Yuuki because the Sleeping Knights were the founders of the hospital. In the least common department, and the least bloody department, was Tadashi Takahashi. Most everyone called him Taashi. He was currently seeing his first patient since he'd changed jobs to the less payment, but better working conditions, in Aincrad. There was another plus. His brother, Ren had also been stuck here, two times, technically.
Kazuto, as Taashi remembered him, was bouncing off the walls as he walked in with the really pretty young gir- I mean woman. Last time Taashi had seen Kazuto Kirigaya, his brother's best friend, Kazuto had been thirteen, and Taashi was twenty. Taashi now 27, knew all of their adventures, but had never seen Asuna. Taashi and Kirito assisted Asuna onto the chair, before they both sat down in rolling chairs. "So, as you should know, I am Tadashi Takahashi, Ren's older brother. I don't have much experience, but I do think I'm at least sufficient at my craft. Last time I saw Kazuto Kirigaya, he was a cute little thirteen recluse,"Taashi introduced and then joked, earning a smile from Asuna. "H-hey! It wasn't like that, Taashi!"Kirito argued back. "Of course it wasn't!"Taashi said with a grin that said the exact opposite. Taashi didn't leave room for argument as he started getting everything ready. After a lot of weird stuff. (Note: I don't actually know. You can review or PM and tell me or something, but for now, I'm keeping it this way.) Finally, Taashi turned away from the device, and asked the eager young man and woman, "Are you ready?" Kirito nodded with a big grin, and Asuna's eyes were glazed, shimerry, and had that really rare sparkle in them.
The screen flashed on, and then a picture was projected. The couple gripped each other's hands together tightly. Asuna's face looked like when Kirito had first proposed to her in SAO. Kirito's smile was happier than ever. The doctor's face was very different. He dropped everything he was holding. His face went white. He seemed frozen as he stared at the screen for a while, before suddenly he jumped out of his seat and sprinted out in one fluid motion.
Without giving time for Kirito and Asuna to process the weirdness of everything that had happened, Taashi came striding in with a much older doctor, and pointed to the screen. With a shaking voice, Taashi told the older doctor, "Tell me that was an illusion. Please." The older doctor turns, to face the corner, although he looked down at his shoes. The corner wasn't quite really where Kirito and Asuna was, nor was it where Taashi was, it was in the middle. "I'm sorry,"the doctor said to not quite anyone. Taashi almost felt his legs buckle, and he grabbed the doorframe. The first time this had happened in this career, and it was his brother's best friend. How could he explain it to them? The older doctor sat in the chair that Taashi had vacated, and extended his hand, "I am Dr. Hamada. I came here to semi-retire as the head of this department, and tutor Taashi, but it seems..." He trailed off, not finishing the thought. Asuna shakes his hand tentatively. "The good news is that you are having twins. A boy and a girl. The bad news, is that the fact that there is two of them adds to the problems. You see, Mr. and Mrs. Kirigaya, that we can't see limbs on the boy. If you abort them, the risks of losing the other baby would be high too. If you continue like this, you still have chance of losing them, and chance of complications during birth, and we may not be able to guaruntee the safety of any lives. Of course, from our point of view, the best option would be to try again. It is, however, your decision,"Doctor Hamada explained, knowing his student well, and knowing, because this had happened to him the first time there had been a complicated pregnancy.
Asuna could feel the hand in hers go slack. Fighting back tears, she looked at Kirito for a reaction, for what she should do. His face was blank. Kazuto Kirigaya stared at the doctor, mouth slightly open, no emotion on his face, except shock. Asuna looked down at her stomach, and she felt a tear slip. On the other hand, Kirito's mind was racing. That meant, that there was a chance none of them would survive. That meant, that there was a big chance, Kirito would get to hold his girls, but Asuna, who wished for a boy, would come out of this experience, without the boy she'd wished for. It also meant, there was a chance, he'd lose all of them. Two whom he'd never met but already loved, and the one who he couldn't live without.
Asuna hopped off the bed, and announced, in a firm a firm voice that shocked everyone, "I am never going to give up on my own children." Kirito looked up at her, to see the hardened eyes she reserved for fighting, when she fought the hardest. Kirito tugged at her hand. She looked down, wondering if she made the wrong decision. Would this tear them apart? His face was no longer only shock. It was surprise, terror she'd never seen her, but also something that made her heart beat like crazy in her chest. His determination. Kirito slowly stood. Only looking at her, he told her, and her only, "I will not loose my nerve this time. Yes. I'm scared I may lose you, and it will only be me and Yui left. If that happened, I would never forgive myself, and I would be hollow. I'd go back to being the recluse I was. That's why I need to make sure, all three of you make it. I will personally make sure, you will get to hold our son." Asuna's eyes brimmed with tears by now. She walked half a step into his waiting embrace, pushing her face into his chest, inhaling the familiar sweet smell. Kirito wouldn't give up. He'd do everything within his power, to make it so that Asuna would get to hold their son.
Taashi stared at them with shock. He'd never seen two people so determined, but yet love each other so much. Doctor Hamada looked on with a smile of approval.
