Chicken Dinner

Summary: Sasuke's daughter likes to eat chicken.

Rating: K

Sasuke settles the little girl into the high chair. She keeps talking to him in her gibberish baby language, throwing her tiny hands into the air.

"Yes, Sarada, Mama is bringing your food."

Little Sarada makes some more incomprehensible noises before Sakura appears with the bowl in her hand. Exciting the baby visually.

"What are you going to eat today, Sarada?" Sakura smiles at the baby, "What are you eating for dinner?" she sits down at the chair Sasuke pulls for her, stirring the puree in the bowl. "Sarada is going to eat chicken today. Chicken."

"It's... really okay to give her chicken already?"

"Umm. Don't worry, she can eat chicken now," she gives her husband an assuring smile, "Right Sarada? You can eat chicken because you're a big girl now. Right?"

She feeds her a spoonful.

Sarada tastes the new food and swallows it. Giggling at her mother and nodding her little head.

"Do you like it, Sarada? Do you like chicken?" Sakura smiles, "I think she likes it."

She feeds her another spoonful. Sasuke just nods silently, watching his little girl enjoying her meal.

Making good use of her off day, Sakura does the laundry while her baby daughter sleeps and her husband is visiting the Hokage office, delivering some reports to their former teacher. When she gets back inside, done hanging the washed clothes for drying, she finds Sasuke there, back already.

"Welcome home, anata," she smiles at him.

"Hn, I'm home," he nods.

And that's when she notices it. The brown paper bag in his hand. "Did you buy something?"

She didn't ask him to get anything and it's very rare for him to go shopping on his own.

"Ah. Chicken."

"Eh?"

"I bought... chicken," he says with a straight face, "Sarada liked the chicken last night."

"S-he did," Sakura tilts her head a little, eyeing the bag in his hand, "How much did you buy?"

"500 gram."

"W-WHAT?" she almost drops the empty laundry basket.

Sasuke stands there, with a blank look on his face. Sakura walks to him, smiling.

"Anata, how much chicken do you think she can eat? She's a baby, I can only give her a little everyday."

He stands there, not saying anything. His eyes darting to the paper bag in his hand.

Sakura chuckles. Apart from being one of the strongest shinobis alive, he's also a dork in daily life. It's this duality of his character that makes him even cooler in her eyes.

"That's a lot of chicken only for Sarada. How about chicken tempura for dinner? You like freshly fried hot chicken tempura."

Sasuke looks up at his wife and although he doesn't say it, she can see the way the cluelessness disappears from his eyes. And he nods.

"Hn."

Sasuke settles Sarada into the feeding chair as Sakura sets the table. The three of them, ready for dinner.

Sakura gathers their daughter's tiny palms together and chants "Itadakimasu" for her before feeding her a spoonful of the rice and chicken puree. "Do you like it, Sarada? Papa bought chicken for you."

Sarada makes happy baby noises in response.

Sasuke's gaze turns soft at the sight and he takes Sarada's bowl from his wife. "Eat. It'll get cold."

"Ah, Thank you," Sakura picks one tempura and bites into it while Sasuke feeds the baby girl. She chuckles watching his plate. A heap of freshly fried chicken tempura and slices of tomato piling up there.

Note: Just another random headcanon because buying an absurd amount of what you think your kid likes to eat is the ultimate dad move, right?

To guest who left that comment on previous chapter about Sarada thinking Naruto's name is Baka, THAT WAS SO HILARIOUS, I shared that with my friends and everyone collectively decided it has to be canon. It was so wholesome!

Hope y'all are doing well.

Love,

June ❤️
