Tohru froze at the door her arm frozen over the doorknob. Tears start swelling in her eyes. She fights to hold them back by blinking repeatedly but grief overwhelms her, her legs start to shake and she sinks to the floor. Eyes wide tears fall down her cheeks and onto the floor. Memories start rushing back like a tidal wave. There she was standing beside her mother as she cried. Tohru held her mother's hand as she cried. Both watching as they buried her father.
She could remember the memory of her mother so clearly. She was yelling out for her but she never responded. There were unfamiliar faces surrounding something hidden under a white blanket. No not something she realized. Something gripped her heart tightly, maybe fear?. There were voices around her but they were too muffled to be able to make out as she stepped closer to the person laying motionless underneath the white blanket. She silently wondered where her mother was, a part of her refusing to believe what was right in front of her. She kneeled, bookbag on her back as she peeled the white blanket back.
She stood back. Trying to process what she just saw before hot tears swelled in her eyes as she cried out. Her heart sunk, her eyes widening as she stared down at the body. The orange hair was covered in blood. Dried blood. She tried to shake the awful nightmare away hoping desperately it was all just an awful nightmare but it didn't work. No matter what she did, the image wouldn't go away. She couldn't run home and seek the warmth of her mother's arms anymore because she was gone. She couldn't rely on her anymore to make everything feel good again. She was alone now. Tohru cried softly her vision blurry and her cheeks now wet with tears. She started crying harder when her body was suddenly pulled into warm gentle arms. She stared ahead in shock slowly melting into the embrace tears still falling down her pale cheeks.
She couldn't lose Kyo. She just couldn't. She lost enough people she cared about she didn't know what would happen if he died. After everything, he didn't deserve to die like this. He didn't deserve to be locked in a cage for the rest of his life like some old animal. Tohru wanted nothing but to save him from that fate. She cried harder realizing she couldn't help him. He was gonna die and there was nothing she could do. Her heart swelled painfully against her chest. The arms squeezed her tighter rubbing small circles over her back and whispered in her ear gently over and over until she finally calmed down. She pulled back and smiled weakly at Arisa who looked her up and down with concern. "Are you okay?". She asked, looking back at Kyo's door for a moment. "I... was just thinking about mom". She whispered. Arisa nodded.
She held a hand out and helped Tohru up her gaze towards Kyo's door. "Are you gonna go in?". Tohru looked down at her feet and nodded. Arisa didn't say anything for a moment her gaze still on the door. She signed closing her eyes. "You better not leave orange top waiting".She teased. "Oh... yeah I...". Why couldn't she will her body to move?. She stared at the ground in shock. "Tohru?". She slowly lifted her head tears welling up in her eyes again. "The orange top will be alright. He'll be happy to see you, so you better hurry inside". She nodded taking a deep breath before turning back towards the door.' You can do this '.She closed her eyes before turning the knob and walked inside. She turned back around to thank Arisa but she was already gone.
She almost started crying again when she stepped closer to the foot of the bed. He was awfully pale, dark rings of exhaustion surrounded his eyes, his hair, and pillow both damp with sweat. She sat down in the chair by the bed and grabbed Kyo's hand. Looking down she rubbed small circles over his palm.
She bit her lip trying hard to stay strong as she looked back up. They didn't have the things they needed for Kyo and no one to get them with the storm outside. Hatori has done his best to at least stop the bleeding and make Kyo comfortable hoping that would be enough for now. What worried her was the fact he hasn't regained consciousness yet. Everyone tried reassuring her that it was normal but it didn't get rid of that lingering feeling in her stomach.
Leaning forward she raised his hand to her forehead and closed her eyes. "Please... let Kyo be alright Mom. I... I don't want to lose him. I won't let you take him away".
