Best Laid Plans-Ch 10
As he walked into Penelopes room his heart shattered into a million pieces, he made it over to her bedside and said, "ohhhh baby girl, I'm so sorry, I hope that one day you can forgive me for this". He pulled up a chair with his good arm being gentle as to not hurt his ribs, he sat down and took her hand in his and brought it up to his lips and kissed it.
He said, "I love you so much, I was going to tell you that day but then this happened, now I don't know if I'll ever be able to tell you", he looked around the room at all of the machines she was hooked to and he shook his head and said, "this is all my fault but I'm going to do everything in my power to make this up to you goddess, I promise".
Derek sat watching her chest rise and fall and he listened to the sound of the ventilator fill the room and all he could do was wonder why this had to happen to them, why them and why now". His attention turned back to his baby girl and he said, "you are so beautiful, so sweet, so kind and you have one of the biggest hearts I've ever seen baby girl and it's killing me that you're in here, I would gladly take your place in that bed if I could".
He gently squeezed her hand and said, "I've been in love with you since the first day I met you but things like you getting shot, Kevin, Sam, Tamara and Jordan got in the way of that and I'm so sorry that you don't know how much I truly love you". Derek felt himself getting very sleepy so he sat back in the recliner and kept his fingers intertwined with Penelopes.
As he closed his eyes he whispered, "I love you sweetness, it's always been you, alwa" and before he could finish his sentence he finally gave in to the pain medication and the blackness that was enveloping him.
About 45 minutes later the team made their way back up the hall toward Dereks room and seeing that Penelopes door was closed JJ and Emily figured the nurses were in checking on her so they decided to go with the others on up the hall.
When they stepped into the room Fran said, "where is he"?, Dave said, "take it easy Bella, maybe they just took him down for tests", Reid smiled and said, "wait a minute, let's not freak out just yet" as he walked out into the hall and quickly made his way to Penelpoes door. He gently pushed the door open and smiled as he saw Derek sleeping by Penelopes bedside holding her hand.
He motioned for the others and said, "he's down here, it's okay, it's okay" and they made their way into the room and Fran said, "awwww bless his heart, this is all he wanted, all he wanted was to be with her". JJ said, "we need to wake him up and get him back into his own bed", Reid said, "good luck with that" as he stood up and watched as Fran stepped forward.
She said, "Derek honey wake up", she got no response and Fran said, "DEREK MICHAEL MORGAN WAKE UP", Dereks eyes flew open and he said, "what, what's wrong, what's wrong"?, Fran said, "what are you doing in here, you are suppose to be in bed". Derek said, "I wanted to be with her, to check on her, I love her and I didn't want her to be alone anymore".
Fran said, "we're getting you back to your own bed", Derek shook his head and said, "no you're not", Fran put her hands on her hips and said, "yes we are" and he said, "no you're not momma, I'm not leaving". Fran said, "Derek I" and he said, "no momma, I'm not leaving, I don't want to make anybody mad but this woman here is the love of my life. the other part of my heart, my everything and I'm not leaving her alone, not now, not ever".
Dave looked at Fran and said, "let me go talk to the doctor and see what I can do", Fran nodded her head and said, "thank you Dave" as she watched her husband disappear out into the hall before her attention then fell back to her stubborn and very in love son.
